Food was great, beach was beautiful. Resort is very clean and well maintained. The cleaning ladies were exceptional and cleaned our room every day. People that work at the restaurants, bar area and reception are very nice, but some of the security people are very, very rude. Man that works as a security at the gym was so mean to my son and husband and he was even swearing at them. Just a few people that work here speak english, and that can sometimes be a problem. Iven the guests spoke spanish, french, italian, but no english language. Adonis, the guy that works as a part of entertainment crew was incredible, so kind and with a smile on his face all the time.

Check-in took almost an hour, which is ridiculous (and there were no issues, just took forever). Everything else was great, and I enjoyed my stay

The property needed some work, the food and drinks weren’t good enough for the money spent. The upgrade we paid extra for wasn’t valuable. The room was comparable to a standard hotel room and many things needed fixing. None of the staff spoke English which made it difficult for us. Our son got food poisoning and we couldn’t drink the water. The positive thing was the beach/water were beautiful and the staff were very nice.

The staff in the restaurants and bars were not friendly or eager to service. I seat at one of the bars for over 20 minutes and no one came over to me. I don’t know if you’re short staffed.

The staff and Hospitality at this resort Was very comforting. Everyone was very respectful and made it feel like home. Excellent beach location quick access to the shore. The only downside I would say to this resort in particular would be the selection of food. I think it could’ve been a little bit better. It wasn’t bad. It just needed a little bit more diversity and more of the Dominican culture.

I had to get a room for a night, room was like from 1960. need total renovation. broken tiles in bathroom, running toilet, AC was barely working. and it was not cheap room.

Excellent hotel

Overall property is nice. Beautiful gardens, pool, nice food. Big plase of this hotel its how close it is to Saona island. If you are a beach person you gonna be disappointed, although beach doesn't have seewead, has clear water its small and very crowded. I traveled all over caribbean and that was the most crowded beach I've seen, way too many people, doesn't have island feel.

Resort was okay,I suggest that if you really want to enjoy your stay at this resort, do not book the garden view or comfort rooms because the AC wont work at all, because those rooms needs to be upgraded and repaired. please avoid those rooms. Overall it was a decent resort,good food and service.

Very clean, great food , everyone is kind

Disappointing

We were quite disappointed with our stay. The bed in our bedroom was broken. Each day we were unable to get pool towels as they seemed to have 'run out' all day long. We were unable to eat at one restaurant as they were hosting a private event, we couldn't eat at another as it seemed it had to be reserved before even arriving to be able to get a booking.

We came here for a wedding. Which was beautiful and the staff is amazing and service was impeccable.

The beach is very nice. The food made me so sick. The resort has to get updated. The room I have was not cleaned properly. The balcony door was broken.

This place has a beautiful beach; clear water, white sand and lots of palm trees. The property landscape is also very nice making the walk from the room to the beach area enjoyable. Food is good with dining options. Entertainment not bad either. Our only complaints would be: 1) cockroaches, we were greeted by one the moment we entered the room, it came out of the shower drain, and we would see frequently during our short stay, a huge one was wondering the hallway, the moment we walked by, it went under the door and got in one of the rooms. My wife was terrified we would bring them home so she was shaking each piece of cloth before folding them in the luggage. 2) clogged sinks and shower drain. One of the sinks was clogged when we got in so we were using only one sink and that one was also draining slowly not to mention the shower drain-your feet would soak in dirty water as you shower.

The best beach with sand

The resort is huge and very well maintained. Landscape is outstanding, the beach is clean, the water is turquoise and the food is somehow edible.The only thing that marred the stay was poorly trained room cleaning personnel. It was always something forgotten after the room was made - either small towels, or medium size towers, or coffee packages, or sugar, or water bottles... Every day something new was missing. I naively thought the tips would speed it up. Wrong! Tips were taken and ALL towels of all sizes were forgotten to be changed. To be honest, the Front desk was helpful though. Bottom line: Dear Catalonia Bayahibe, please train your personnel better, teach them that money and tips don't fall from the sky, they actually have to earn it. Besides that it is a great resort!

On the positive side, the property is very clean and staff are hard working and friendly. The beach is a beautiful turquoise, sunsets are beautiful and beach chairs are plentiful within a shaded palm forest. The pool has a lot of corners and nooks that are great for small children. There were some clear negatives, though: 1. There was a huge building being built on the property while we were there in November 2023. Even when complete, it will loom over the property. 2. The buffet was quite local in terms of food. Some days it was good and other times basically inedible. The buffet area is oppressively hot and stuffy. 3. The resort and beach feel a bit cramped and crowded at all times. 4. The sit-down restaurants were pretty middling in our experience and the quality of ingredients wasn't great. Very nice atmosphere, though. 5. The beach is fairly steep, with very soft sand, and somewhat tiring to get to and walk on.

Old property and room, condition not working. In buffet waiting water 40 min.

We had only one but big problem and disappointment, related to daily service/cleaning person visiting: We were spending time on beach till 6 pm, then 1 hour and 30 minutes in the our room: 6:30 - 8 PM, then evening program, out of room: Restaurant, Show, Dancing till 12 AM. But the cleaning/service woman came for that to our room always at 7 PM, and therefore have completely destroyed our vacation evening time: The period 6:30 PM - 8 PM (1 hour and 30 minutes) was the very busy for us- being in room, after the beach naked (without dressing) we p[planned for Shower, restroom, change to evening dressing for restaurant and start to go to a restaurant at 8 PM. So, any service person visit during this time was very unlikely for us (I was naked man in shower, we really needed to use restroom and so on). Attempt to explain that to Service/cleaning p[person the several time was unsuccessful - we speaks English, she speaks Spanish only. 3 calls to reception desk and talk to English speaking person also was unsuccessful - she promised to move these visits after 8 PM, but it still continue to be 7 PM and continue to destroy our vacation. As we see the service persons have not been trained at all: 1. We must not see them at all - they must come when we are out the room. 2. They never must come to room during 1 hour and 30 minutes period 6:30 PM - 8 PM. 3. We must be able to spend time with me and my wife only in the room, without any 3rd person, like service cleaning.

Great beach with clear water. Front desk service was good and responsive. Dinning staff was awful, they did not come by to check on you if you need more water or anything else, had to hunt for them yourself. Alcohol options are terrible, the worst I have seen and we travel often. Waiters do not exist at the pool/ beach areas, if you want anything you had to get it your self. I would rate this hotel as solid 3 stars.

Hard to communicate with people who don't speak English at all in the resort.

I had a great time with family and friends. I have something to share that I saw with my own eyes. The buffet cook, who was responsable for grilling the meats and chicken, was using the same tong to grab the raw meat and serve cooked meat to customers. He was about to that to me and, because I told him not to use the same utensil, he grabbed a spatula and served the cooked chicken. If that situation is happening in front of people, who knows what procedures they implement inside the kitchen. We’re back home and I have food poisoning. I shouldn’t have trusted the food I consumed. I suggest you have better training and food safety protocols & procedures for anyone handling or serving food. It’s a family hotel and lots of children and elderly (most vulnerable population) visit each year.

Habiaciones muy viejas

Las habitaciones del hotel son muy viejas, deberian remodelar o demoler todo :p Solo hay un restaurante bufet que funciona mañana, tarde y noche. Si quieres ir a un restaurante a la carta solo se permite una reserva por semana (dos personas) tanda nocturna. Todos los restaurantes son abierto (sin aire acondicionado). La piscina tiene buen tamaño con varios niveles 👍 y la playa en horario de la mañana si hay sol, se ve bonita.

I don’t recommend this place at all; the service is horrible; people are rude and impolite… no towels for an overcrowded place!!!

it was our first time going to an all inclusive. we loved it, it was paradise. only thing when we got to our room the first day, it wasn't ready, bathroom was dirty,but we called reception and they sent the cleaning lady right away. food is not the best, but it's ok. at least a lot of variety. most of the staff is amazing, very nice and friendly. and the place itself is really beautifull. i recomend it

Like the grounds but the rooms are outdated. No AC in the rooms my whole stay 2 days in the Caribbean, you can just imagine.

Very nice resort!

This is a nice property, they could use some better customer service specifically in the buffet area, also the restaurants are always empty but you need a reservation for them and it’s super hard to get one. The beach is beautiful and the pool pretty nice, best customer service attention that we had was Yerry at the pool bar he was awesome!!!! The bedroom are small but ok.

Great beach and wonderful staff but some of the continually used fixtures and openings (doors and windows) need to be replaced.

We had a great time at Catalonia. Food was great. Ambience excellent. Staff friendly. Clean. There was only one staff member that was rude. And it was at the front desk when we checked in. He was not engaged and not informative. But besides him…..everything and everyone else was excellent!!!

Eravamo gia’ stati 3 anni fa al Bayahibe Catalonia e ci eravamo trovati benissimo con uno standard alto nella ristorazione per essere un all inclusive.La proprieta’ non ci ha avvertito al momento della prenotazione che il ristorante principale EL TAHINO era andato a fuoco e che quindi nn sarebbe stato disponibile.Hanno quindi distribuito i buffet in altei rristoranti piccoli e con buffet ridotti sia come scelta e offerta che come qualita’.Il cibo ora e’ mediocre.Lo staff dei bar e dei ristoranti e’ sempre ottimo,cordiale e sorridente(quasi tutti).Mi dispiace davvero ma qualcosa in questi 3 anni deve essere cambiato soprattutto nella gestione dei ristoranti.Prima erano presenti tante food stations in cui preparavano al momento la vera pasta italiana ora ti devi accontentare della pasta che trovi nelle vaschette del buffet molto spesso vuote!!Anche a colazione al buffet potevi avere omelettes espresse o uova strapazzate al momento.Ora le devi chiedere alla carte al ristorante dove il servizio purtroppo e’ lentissimo e la qualita’ mediocre.Mi dispiace perche’ era un posto davvero piacevole

The hotel is extremely beautiful.

It’s a small resort with good pool and awesome sandy beach with beautiful water. We go there for sandy beach and blue Caribbean water. Prestige rooms are renovated and a bit better than regular rooms. Entertainment team is great and teens and adults participate in all activities. Most European tourists don’t tip. An average salary in DR is about $200 a month. An extra couple dollars here and there will give your personal attention and better service. Tip well and help workers and their families.

Good value for money

Good hotel, amazing beach ,food was ok ,buffet had good variation but the a la carte restaurants werent great. Personal was lovely and worked really hard. Drinks cheap, but they were ok . Would have like the chance to pay maybe a little extra to have nice drinks. Kids loved the pool. We were "privileged " but the bunk beds weren't very safe so we shared the big double beds with the kids, no biggie. Room service didn't work at all, tried 3 times ,3 times failed. Entertainers work hard, although twerking competition by the pool in the afternoon didn't think it was child friendly, still my kids found hilarious and love the night shows too. In general I think it was good value for money, but the beach and the staff which works so hard is what they make the hotel.

Beautiful resort, breath-taking beach, outstanding facilities. My only complaint would be that the staff wasn’t always the friendliest. When we ordered something at the bar, we were often given dirty looks or attitude. Made us feel guilty for asking for something. The service at the restaurants was very slow, we were either ignored or made to feel ignored. Other than the service, can’t complain.

El hotel esta muy bien lo malo es lo dificil para reservar en los restaurantes y algunas comidas no son buenas comimos un pescado que nos hizo daño a todos tampoco me gusta que el trato es muy selectivo.

The beach is beautiful, very clean. The grounds are well maintained with mature palms and flowering shrubs. The staff are helpful and friendly. The animation team is full of energy and keep a fun atmosphere going. The 2 shows we saw (Circus , Dominican) were great. Buffet is very good with many choices of food. Rodeo restaurant meals were delicious. Drinks were delicious. We would definitely recommend staying here, good value.

Great for traveling with children

The stay was great! Entertainment not so much if your looking for night time fun within the hotel. Outside of the hotel great casino/night club. This hotel is great for family trips with your children

We arrived at the Catalonia resort and were greeted with a tropical juice in a glass. The front desk staff was nice and the check in process was easy. The resort grounds were impeccable; super clean and the greenery was beautiful not a single leaf or flower out of place! We were helped with our luggage (we had alot) to our family room. Unfortunately there wasn’t an elevator in the area we were in so the bellhop had to carry all the luggage up the stairs. Our room was close to EVERYTHING-restaurants, pool theater, shops, spa and the beautiful beach! So clean and turquoise not packed at all we went swimming immediately! The room wasn’t the greatest but it served its purpose had a balcony that over looked the pool and theater. The pool had kiddie area swim up bar hot tub. There was a kids club.The food was ok reservations were needed for 2 of the restaurants so we couldn’t try them since they were booked for all seatings. We ate mostly at the family / buffet restaurant. We were not able to get drinks or food at all of the bars as they were reserved for platinum members only. Speaking of platinum membership, at check in we were greeted by Lourdes who was nice and caught my attention with a “free spa treatment” offer. She didn’t mention we had to sit for over an hour and listen to someone try and sell us a membership it was a waste. 25 minute massage was good but receptionist there was not personable

Our stay was perfect. Friendly staff, good food, good everything. This is not a luxury hotel but a great soot for families and friends. Beach was amazing. Fresh brewed coffee was amazing. My husband loved the local food. We eat simple so no need to do fancy to impress us.

Check-in, check-out are easy. The beach, water are clean and clear. Room is big enough, some pieces of furniture needs to fix or replace. We did not like room service. At buffet very limited choice of food. There are 4 restaurants, we enjoyed only one.

The place was nice. One of the best beaches I have enjoyed from my 5 visits to DR. Food was good, rooms were good, entertainment was pretty good. Although this is all subjective, I really enjoyed how awesome the staff was. They made my trip.

The rooms are needed to be upgraded. The ground is beautiful. The beach are a gem. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Food is good. The atmosphere in this hotel is very friendly and relaxing. We were in paradise. Thank you Catalonia Gran Dominicus!!!

Good place

Great amenities. Food was good. Beach is great. Shows are pretty good. Service is sometimes good, sometimes not. Resort doesn't seem to be run that well. But it's a fun place. Rooms need updating.

This is the worst hotel with the worst customer service,I was traveling from ny to this location but I couldn’t make it, they charge me the 3 nights that I was going to stay, I call for a refund and they told me that they had to charge me one night for penalty because I didn’t show up and I didn’t canceled the reservation, I told then that It was okay, I was waiting for my two nights that they were supposed to refund me but they never refunded me. I called to the hotel like 7 time trying to get my money back but the person that answers the phone was unhelpful.

I checked in and after 45 minutes I finally received my room keys only to find out the room was not dusted nor cleaned. They were molding in the bathroom which you notice immediately up once entering the room because of the strong odor. The sheets were stained and dirty. I spoke to the "manager" and explained the situation, she assure me that the room will be dusted and cleaned thoroughly, I came back to the room after eating, only to find the sheets had blood stains on them. I was only over to change room the next day after 3pm and was not even offered an apology nor compensation smfh

Excellent resort with a perfect beach and amazing pool.

It was a good experience. Facility and staff were good. Only issue was it the pillows and the bed... they need serious improvement. Also there was this thick air smell the first few times we entered the room. They need to refresh the rooms better before guests arrive. Beach is excellent! 10/10! Clean and beautiful. Food is okey, not great but good. Other thing is a la carte restaurant. Is the same food on a different setting. They need to improve the quality, so you can have good food and not sit on different tables and have a different setting. Staff was very nice all the time. Kudos to to them. Overall 8/10 considering the price and you get.
