Solo female traveler loved my stay
I had a lovely stay at Casa Ambar. I was in town as a solo female traveler for a wedding and felt safe there. Decor was cute and I had a huge balcony. Every morning I walked over to the Good Morning Coffee next door for breakfast and iced coffees. Clean as well. Could hear club music at night but it didn’t play late. Also you can’t run the AC during the day but can at night. No direct beach access or pool though so it helped that I had friends staying nearby with both.
Nice spot, hotel zone
Nice little place tucked in the hotel zone..in a great location.. Nice service from the from desk lady.. Very helpful. An Eco friendly place that uses solar power during the day. AC turns on 9pm-5am...never been to a place that restricts..but I understood the concept.. Nice spot..if they get the ac running all the time will def be back!
This hotel is located central in the hotel Zone walkable to all the good restos and beach clubs! Although wifi wasnt always the stongest Liz and Aiden made up for it they were extremely welcoming and accomodating inlucding liz who cleans always with a smile on their face and addressing me by name! Thank you for a great stay!
Terrible place. Not sure who writes theses reviews but this would never be my recommendation for anything. One step above camping. Thats it. They didn't pick us up at the airport air conditioning turn off before the time which is only on 9pm to 7am no cups. Cant use the water. Toilet dont flush Hair dryer usage not not permitted no towels. No beach not a cooler or one single thing. My camper has more to offer.the location was the only thing worth mentioning. A water jug got broke by total accident and they actually charged us for it. That would be like breaking a glass at a restaurant and they charge you. Than upon check out once again no return to the airport with a attitude of check and negotiate on the street. Nothing like was everything ok. Why because it was horrible. They say the sister hotel which is miles down the road has pool. If thats what you call it. But the same junkie place. But it does have beach access. Thats its savior. So recommending this place that i took others recommending people is a joke. Dont stay here. You will hate your life.
Casa Ambar has a great location near all the activity on the beach. The place was spacious, well kept and the staff was exceptionally friendly. In particular, Liz was very helpful! She was kind and gave great recommendations and made our trip much better! 10/10 would recommend.
Never clean the room and bad area is not close to the beach
Too close to loud night clubs. On the jungle side
The staff was very friendly. I especially want to say thanks to Gonzalo. He was so helpful in getting us from Cozumel to the hotel. He provided the information for taxi and for the ferry. The hotel is in the perfect spot for shopping, dining and having fun. The hotel kept having issues with their power so it kept going out even during the night and it was hot. Having the pool and beach at their sister property was great. It was an easy 20 minute walk.
Me and friends were staying in Playa Del Carmen and decided to take an overnight trip to Tulum. We booked Casa Ambar same day and glad we did. Price was great and we knew we were going to be out most of day and night so wasn’t trying to spend a lot. Location was amazing. Walkable to all the spots we were planning to go to. Gonzolo greeted us at checkin and right away gave us recommendations and all we needed to know about this eco friendly hotel. Beach is across the street but you get access through their sister hotel down block and also get access to a Cenote which we didn’t have time to check out as we were there just one night. Also hotel runs solar power and then generator so AC is 9pm-7am but was cool enough with Fan during day. You also can’t use hair dryer or irons. So make sure you like your beach wave hair and clothes are good to wear as is. I loved the authenticness of this hotel as Tulum has been taken over by luxe hotels. We stayed in King suite with Balcony that had jungle views. We saw a family of monkeys pass over the trees which really helped us feel the Tulum vibes. Location was perfect and Gonzalo recommended we go to the Mia Beach Club and it was just the scene we were looking for and only a 5min walk from hotel. Had dinner at Rosa Negra which was across the street as well. Overall we recommend if you are like us and want an Authentic Tulum expierence. Thanks Casa Ambar!
Everyone that worked there was so nice and helpful! Room was lovely, definitely would recommend this hotel. It is in a great location, everything is very walkable!
Great location and super nice staff.
Casa Ambar is a unique property. We had a jungle facing room, upstairs. It was large and private without having to draw curtains. The room has an eclectic mix of furniture. The bed was quite comfortable. Large open design bathroom. Staff was helpful with all questions. Arley was there at night for security. They have 2 sister hotels. One for laying by the ocean. Other for kayaking a cenote. Their staff treated us great like their own guests.
We loved our stay here. The room itself was a little outdated but it didn’t affect our stay. The staff were so kind and helpful. Casa Ambar is a cute eclectic hotel and the location is awesome! Right next to lots of beach clubs, bars and restaurants. We would absolutely come back here!
If you are looking to stay somewhere inexpensive but walking distance to all the hit restaurants and clubs this is the place to stay at. It doesn’t have a pool or restaurant like some of the hotels in the area. But honestly it’s not needed because once again it’s central to EVERYTHING so if you just looking for a place to sleep at and be out during the day, then this is the place to stay at.
We really enjoyed out stay. Large unit, comfy bed, quiet but located in party zone.
no AC during the day, only at night - not disclosed on their site! it's sweltering during the day! also, there was a hole in our ceiling where rain water came through and flooded the floor. weird dust on my clothes every morning, most likely from the ceiling.
First room was upstairs using a rickety flight of steps, no AC until 9 pm. We moved to a larger, nicer room on main level & requested a room fan which helped. Good breakfast with incredible mangos. Located close to everything.
I like how quite it was during the day and that there was no TV, so it kind of forces you to explore the area. The breakfast was simple and delicious, fresh fruit and juice. It took me back to a time when i lived in my home country as a young kid.
Beautiful place, near everything staff is so nice and friendly, will definitely stay here again
Nicely appointed property on the jungle side of the road right in the middle of the hotel/restaurant strip. It’s much less expensive than staying at a similar place right on the beach…and you have free access to the beach front of the sister hotel (Posada Lamar) that’s a 20 minute walk / 5 minute bike ride up the road. That combination makes it a great value for Tulum. We stayed in room #3 (ground floor at the back) and noise wasn’t too much of an issue. The music from Casa Banana next door and the hotel’s generator didn’t bother us. You’re much more likely to hear your fellow guests in other rooms than any noise from outside. Mosquitos will come out of the jungle at night, so be prepared if you want to spend any amount of time hanging out on the terrace. They have free bikes for guests but they are in such bad shape that you’re better off renting them from somewhere else.
The location was great. It's right in the middle of the strip with plenty to walk to. During our stay we lost power, had no hot water, and felt the cleanliness was below what's acceptable.
The property is in such a great location. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. We loved the free water that they provided. We just wish that there was a mini fridge in the room. We will definitely be returning.
Terrible, do not stay here.
Horrible experience, room has no fan or AC as listed. Lighting was terrible, no water pressure or hot water. The room was incredibly loud until the club next door closed at 3:30am. Might as well have been going to sleep inside the club. Frequent power outages on the property. Dim lighting. One night we returned to the hotel to find the entry lock gate with no one there to let us back in.
Adriana & Antonio were absolutely amazing and so helpful during our stay! They both went above & beyond to make sure we had anything we needed. The location is prime and in the thick of all the fabulous restaurants and beach clubs. We will definitely be coming back!
Overall a good experience. The room was nice. Big bed. Ceiling fan and AC. Free water (not bottled but in a dispenser) in the room and they provide coffee, fruit, yogurt, granola, and toast for breakfast. Staff was friendly. Parking is limited if you bring a car. But they have bikes to borrow so you can easily get around town. They don't have a beach, but you can take the bikes about 5 mins down the road to their sister property where they have beach loungers and a pool. Just be aware that this hotel is a bit rustic so don't expect it to be some American style resort. You might get some bugs in the room, nothing bad however. Sometimes the hot water doesn't work. And the WiFi isn't super reliable. The only bad thing is that you are in the hotel zone and you can hear the dance music late at night (depending on which room you are in apparently, and which day you are there). But that's to be expected because of the location. It's a busy area and the hotel is right in the middle of a bunch of bars and restaurants. While we were there they were doing some light construction around the property so it looks like they are improving things.
Would NOT recommend for couple vacation
I stayed for 2 nights with my partner and paid 400$, it was definitely not worth money. It should be cheaper, I wouldn’t recommend this for any couple vacation. Cons: -there are thousands of mosquitos and other insects and geckos. We got the king size room with jungle view. View is not worth it, its just a jungle and more bugs. No air flow. -room smells like molds, idk what it was but there were dead bugs smashed on the walls and the bed sheets were dirty, there were insects’ wings on the sheet, other bugs ive never seen before, hundreds of mosquitos (i wish i was kidding) flying around, washroom door doesnt close so they come from the drain, you cant open the window cuz more will come in. -air conditioning only works from 9pm-8am. Prepare to be outside other than that, there is no fan. Theres one on the ceiling that swirls around thats it. Its not enough wind. -airport transportation is 250 USD both ways. Do not order it from the hotel, the number of the hotel listed is NOT working and they never picked up the phone -hotel wifi DOES NOT WORK. NO RECEPTION in the hotel either: you need to be ready to have absolutely no reception during the stay- we even had a simcard but it did not work -construction going on site- from the entrance to the side- theyre building another hotel, it will be loud Pro - employees were friendly and super nice! They cleaned well too, and always tried to help the best. It’s just the property and the management, not worth the money.
The location is perfect! The building has a large entrance into an inner courtyard, then backs up into the jungle. Exotic vibe and friendly staff.
The only thing I didn’t like was that they turned on the AC at 9pm and turned it off by 7am. There was a ceiling fan you can leave on all day, but it was uncomfortably hot at times. The staff was truly amazing! They were helpful, happy and professional. I would certainly stay here again. BRING BUG SPRAY!
Pretty affordable compared to Tulum’s prices.
Great experience and great staff. Loved the vintage look of the place. Hotel allows you to use the other two sister hotels from the area, which have beach access and a cenote.
Unique and antique decor was very nice.
We were right over the generator that went all night long. The music was pounding load until 2am in the morning. We really needed to rest so we checked out by 3 pm on the second day and didn’t sleep there the 26! The place is unique and gorgeous but if your not into the party stay away.
The hotel was basic. The first night we nearly froze when we asked for a blanket or comforter none available we ended up getting robes in order to use to keep warm. Would’ve been nice to have ice. The breakfast was tasty and the cafe was good. The staff is friendly.
Right in the middle of the action, one of the best restaurants right next door and the rest of the beach restaurants and night life right across the street!
The hotel is located in a great area, the design is great and the staff is outstanding. What I did not like at all was the horrible internet connection (most of the time none at all) and that the electricity went out every 5 minutes in my room.
Hotel is in disarray and not suitable for guests.
Criminal behavior of staff
Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed. There were no curtains or blinds on the bathroom window. I was on the ground floor and there were men who worked at the hotel doing work outside my bathroom. One of them stared at me the entire time while I was on the toilet. Additionally, my room had no blankets or towels. There were ants everywhere and hundreds of them got into my suitcase and were stuck to my clothes and toiletries. After the bathroom incident I told the manager I wanted to leave. He promised me a full refund and never gave it to me. I was only at the hotel a couple hours. I travel frequently and have never had an experience like this in my life. This place should be shut down.
Great stay great service ! Loved it
Wonderful Tulum Adventures
My stay at Casa Ambar was excellent. The hotel is perfectly located near some of the best restaurants in the hotel region of Tulum. My room was wonderful with a jungle view and I loved hearing the birds and wind in the palm trees. The staff and front desk are very nice and cleaned my room every day while I was out. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe here and it felt like the staff were always looking out for me which was wonderful.
Colonial Jungle House in Tulum
I admire the history and magic of this place! All the little touches really come together to make this boutique hotel special. I enjoyed the view as well as the location! What it lacked in ocean views it made up for in amenities and energy.
This was my worst Expedia experience. When we arrived at the hotel we were the only guest staying at the property. The entire place was dark they had to turn on the lights to show us around. You won’t have any AC in the day time it turns on at 9pm and off at 6am. When we decided to go out for dinner at night we realized that we were the only ones on the property. There was no one there for us to speak to. I was with my best friend and we felt very unsafe at this hotel. We even tried looking for another hotel to stay the night. We were only at Casa Ambar for the night but it was so sketchy. We did not trust sleeping there by ourselves. When we got back from dinner we were greeted by three men who barely spoke any English. Very disappointed that Expedia has this hotel as a option.
Friendly, boutique hotel
We had a lovely stay here, the service we received was 10/10, Christian the friendly man on reception really helped us out During the dramas of covid-19 when we had to move hotels, he very very kindly offered to deliver all of our suitcases using his own car to their sister hotel ready for our arrival. The hotel is perfectly located in the middle of the strip and you can ride bikes / walk to restaurants close by which saves in cabs. Cabs are also very easy to get outside the hotel. Their sister hotel ‘Posada Lamar’ is where we got moved to and is located on the beautiful Tulum beach , the staff are so friendly, they deliver an amazing breakfast to you and even lay it out on the table outside the room. I will recommend both of these lovely hotels to friends and family. Thank you both hotels for a lovely stay.
The room was good and cleaned daily. Hotel is centrally located to restaurants and bars. Although, you did need to pay for bikes (10USD for your entire stay), and the beach was only accessible through the other property which was about a 20 minute walk or 7 minute bike ride. The staff was friendly but it would be nice if you were able to find them more often, if necessary.
Really nice ! The best bed in the world , priceless
Our room has open holes so every mosquito gets in! Terrible condition of the whole place. Breakfast included was only fruit and coffee!
Very nice clean hotel in the best location on thr beach, across the road from Akiin beach club and surrounded by famous restauranrs. Fancy and expensive area. Great beach
Overall a great stay!
Very well decorated rooms with antique things everywhere. The rooms on the first floor are really beautiful and large with high ceilings. Service is excellent!
We had a great stay at casaAmbar! Will come there again! Constantine and Natasha
It was gorgeous and a perfect location. No pool or beach access but they lend you bikes and grant access to a sister hotel a 2 minute bike ride away with both. I would absolutely stay there again.
Hospitality of the staff as well as access to special amenities in partnership with sister hotels made for a very pleasant and unique first time trip to the riviera maya.
Casa Ambar is Permanently Closed. We were very surprised to find this out.after our arrival. .
