The reviews are all right! They are the kindest staff members I've ever been in contact with. Everything was super accommodating. From extra pillows, turn down service etc.. Dining on premises, taxis and other add-ons could get quite pricey.
Nice property, clean and quiet.. we had a relaxing time . Staff are all very nice and helpful. Room furniture’s are somewhat outdated but otherwise clean and spacious. I like the fact that our room was check and cleaned twice a day. Beach area is private and really nice and calm waters except from our last 2 days that seaweeds invaded the shore and somewhat smelly.. I cannot recommend the Italian restaurant on the resort! I have it a 3/5 rating as the food is not really good. The beach bar/resto is better to spend the day. Main resto by the beach is ok also same as their menu but breakfast is not that great. I didnt expect that kind of breakfast selections and set up on a nice resort and on the price we paid. Fruits are covered with a metal lid that has hole in the middle but majority of poeple taking that lid off are touching the fruits when they’re trying to open that lid. These fruits could have been served in a better way. We ended up taking their taxi service to eat out in town x3 because there is more choices but taxi service are not cheap. I would rate this resort 3.8 out 5 and probably would not recommend at this time to our friends but was told also that they are having major renovations this year for 2 months so we’ll see after that.
Nicest staff around and beautiful views
The staff was lovely, the Concierge knowledgeable and helpful, beach was beautiful.
It is a beautiful location on Carlisle Bay. Excellent food. Very friendly staff. Excellent tennis pros.
We like the hotel’s staff, location, and grounds
The view is breathtaking, entire staffs were very friendly and professional. If there is something you want as far as dinning and they don't have it on the menu. They go above and beyond to make it happen. From the time you check in to check out process was smooth and welcoming.
The bay is beautiful and hotel just over half an hour from the airport which is extremely convenient. The kids club is fantastic and gym facilities and pool are very good. At this price point I’d expect more from the rooms and restaurants. We’ve had construction work right above our suite which included tile cutting and ultimately brought our bathroom ceiling down. There was no other room or solution offered. We’ve received a complimentary bottle of Prosecco and apology.
The service and welcome was first class and nothing was too much trouble. The beachfront villa was as advertised and right on the beach and each of the 4 restaurants gave a good choice of food.
Amazing stay!!!!!
Phenomenal
An incredible trip with exceptional service and attention to detail. Wonderful staff , great food and superb cleanliness.
Overall nice hotel with wonderful staff and amazing food. When you take a closer look the rooms are a little tired with sheets and towels on the hard side for a 5* resort. They also have an insect problem. You may find something scary in your room like a cockroach or a swam flies blocking the entry to your room which really lets it down.
Carlisle Bay never disappoints, the setting is beautiful, the rooms are absolutely gorgeous and have spectacular views over a wonderful bay and immaculate gardens. Having travelled and stayed on the island for over 30 years I can honesty say that the food and service is the best that we have experienced. This has been our third consecutive visit and we can’t wait to come back. Hopefully the summer refurbishment will not take away any if it’s charm. Thank you for the most welcomed relaxing break.
Property is beautiful! Rooms very clean and modern. Everyone we encountered at resort were very friendly and welcoming.
Very child friendly
Great stay, very child friendly. The service can be a bit hit or miss but overall a very nice place for families.
After a small hiccup at the beginning regarding our package. I would like to rave about this resort. The management should be very proud of their staff. They were all very special. Courteous, happy, helpful and went above and beyond their duties. Thank you for making our holiday amazing!!
The beach is gorgeous and the staff are fantastic. Good selection of non-motorised water sports, bed is comfy and the free minibar (soft drinks only) is a nice touch. Only reasons for 4 not 5 star rating was that I thought the on site restaurants were a little over priced for the food as were the drinks, and shower gels etc we’re not replenished (minor touch I appreciate).
Location is beautiful. It all feels a little tired though and needs a general spruce up to keep up with the competition both on the island and elsewhere. Food is OK bur seems silly to have a sushi restaurant when every ingredient has to be flown in. As a result it’s a bit like buying it from Waitrose! As others have pointed out the breakfast buffet is identical every day and the pastry cabinet looks like something picked out of a skip. Water sports excellent. Some of the staff were a bit miserable but mostly very good. Caribbean I guess. In summary we enjoyed our stay and would go back but some real improvements needed to keep up with the competition and justify the price. Oh and whilst you can eat off site Jolly Harbour is 20 mins and English Harbour 30 minutes so it’s not that easy.
Great setting but in need of a complete renovation.
Great hotel for a family holiday, the food and location were great
I can’t say enough good things about this property the staff is so kind the kids club so amazing the food delicious and the room spacious. Currently our flight is delayed and they made it easy for us to stay and feel welcome. You will be so happy you chose to stay here!
This is a lovely beach hotel. The staff are very pleasant and extremely helpful. The beach is amazing: soft sand and the water is pretty calm. The pool is big and well-designed. The pickleball courts and tennis courts are in great shape. We only tried the non-mechanized water sports like kayaking, sailing, water-bike, but these were all very nice. The cocktails from the different bars were all very good, and the food is excellent; all the restaurants are good, but the two restaurants we liked in particular were East and Indigo. Unless you are planning on going off-property to restaurants outside the hotel, I would strongly recommend the all-inclusive; otherwise the food and drink can get somewhat expensive. The meet-and-greet at the airport (which you get automatically if you are using the taxi service through the hotel) was helpful; we went through both immigration and customs in less time. The Ocean Suites are big and comfortable, everything works well. The only slight negative I would mention is that from the Ocean Suite you do get a view of the sea, but it is not a clear view; there are a lot of coconut trees and the Ocean Suites are set back quite a bit from the water, so you are mostly looking at the beach. I would not call this an Ocean Suite. As Expedia gold customers, we were told we could get a free update, and we requested to be moved to Balcony Beach Suites (which have a much better view) but this never happened. But all in all, we strongly recommend Carlisle Bay
Very rustic
Beautiful beach. Good beach “toys” such as hobi cats, paddle boards, kayaks etc. Tennis courts excellent. Staff very nice and friendly and breakfast options and quality in particular is really good. I think a great place to go if you have kids as there is a family atmosphere. When we left, the place was packed with young families. A bit lacking if you want a luxury break as the property overall feels a bit tired and in need of investment. This includes the common areas as well gym and rooms. The staff are super nice but the service level would be a bit inconsistent for a more demanding traveller.
I stayed at Carlisle Bay with 7 other friends to celebrate my and one others birthdays. The staff were amazing and I would rate them 5/5. The hotel is not the typical all inclusive hotel and a bit dated. It appeared to cater to a specific group of persons as well as a specific age range.
We loved our stay. It was exactly what we were looking for. Perfect setting, intimately laid out, terrific service from pre-arrival, greeting and checking in, bar and food service, and checking out. We will be recommending to our family and friends. A great place for families, groups, singles or couples.
The bed low pillows uncomfortable
No where near a 5 ⭐️ resort
At best a 3.5star hotel on a beautiful beach. Maybe best suited for families who want to do water activities. We were very disappointed that this was our last stop on our romantic couples trip. What looks like “coastal chic” on the website is really outdated, refurbished decor from the 80’s. The lobby was dark and dingy, with furniture possibly from the 70’s. The koi pond had trash thrown in it. It’s fine for what it is, just please do not book thinking it is going to be a 5 star resort.
All the very best- people, hotel, island. Will be returning for a longer stay
Everything was great. We had a beautiful room. and the best part I received a $100 spa credit thank you.
The staff was above and beyond. We loved it here so much that we already booked to return next year!
Family friendly resort with professional staff that are very kind, gentle and helpful. The resort was clean, food was delicious and lots of different options. Note - you can ask for filtered water if you don’t want to pay for still or sparkling at meal time. Nite - ask for mangos and bush tea. You won’t regret it
Very personable staff.
Great location, staff very friendly and accommodating
Clean, staff was extremely attentive/friendly, rooms are perfectly situated on the beach. Had a great time at the resort.
The beach! The super relaxed, zen vibe.
What a wonderful experience! I absolutely love Antigua. The people here make the island so special and amazing. They’re such hard workers and really aim to try to please and help you. My family and i (husband, toddler and baby) went with the alol inclusive plan. The lunches at the hotel are incredible. You can order and eat at the beach which is what we did with two little kids. service on the beach was good. There were a couple days we had to track someone down to help with fixing the seats but otherwise everything went smoothly. The dinners at the hotel were okay. East was good if you were in the mood for Asian, the Italian restaurant is only open 2x a week and when we did go it was alright. The pizza is amazing tho. The dough was incredible. Because we had kids we couldn’t go to the adults only restaurant, and Indigo was really great. However if you’re looking for a change of scenery after being there a week and having breakfast in indigo, having dinner there becomes redundant. I cannot stress how amazing the Service is at the hotel! The only complaint, tho minor, is the room is a bit dated including the bathroom but very well kept. The beach. Oh the gorgeous beach!!! Perfect for toddlers and baby’s.
100 people standing around 4 trying to make them work and it won’t happen average waiting time for a coke with lemon and ice 21 min
Charging competitive rates but facilities are a bit tired. We had a dreadful check in experience and service was average. Won’t be staying again.
Set in a beautiful bay, lovely staff. Excellent rooms, but the shower has a smooth tiled floor and is extremely slippy. Has to put a towel on the floor of the shower to be safe.
This hotel is located on a gorgeous bay, probably one of the most beautiful in Antigua. However, if you're also expecting some luxury then this hotel completely lacks it and it's not the place for you. It's very important to be aware of this detail and manage your expectations. Given its classification as a LHW, I've ignored all reviews describing the hotel/amenities as nondescript and underwhelming thinking there's no way this could be true but I was wrong. However, what saved the trip is the fact that our Terrace suite was located right on the beach (as in you open your back door and you're at the beach and a second away from a fascinating and breathtaking view). To me, this was a dream setting which is why I decided to stay. The room itself needs a lot of TLC with a terrible paining job, old furniture, nondescript bathroom. Food: we didn't have the all-inclusive package. The food is overall very good (service is slow, expect around 60mn wait) but the taste makes up for that. our favorite restaurant was EAST - truly amazing. Prices are a bit on the high side but reasonable. The daily breakfast however is terrible :( The buffet consists of 3 small tables, one with inedible pancakes, waffles.., second table with bad quality fruits and the last with underwhelming croissants/muffins. You can order eggs etc but the quality was meh. Overall the hotel is okay. I might come back given the fascinating natural beauty of Carlisle bay while managing expectations in terms of luxury.
Short stay in paradise
The resort felt spacious and not overly crowded despite the hotel being relatively full. We made good use of the watersports facilities. Might have been nice if they had a slightly bigger selection. There are 9 tennis courts, so great for those who are avid tennis players. Kids club staff were so friendly and there are activities for both the younger and older kids which was appreciated.
Compact resort, waterfront rooms, short walking distance to everywhere, great beach, calm water, available beach chairs, and good walking distance for joggers along the beach. Pleasant non motorized water activity.
staff above all were the best. they were personable, warm, helpful, knowledgable, and went above and beyond. they made my experience
Great property! Clean and well kept. Staff is amazing!
The property, room and beach were perfect. The staff was friendly, respectful, and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
This was our second trip to Carlisle Bay and of course it did not disappoint. We will return in the near future!
We stayed at the hotel for 5 days with our toddler and enjoyed everything about the place. Such a beautiful location, great service and excellent food.
Well worth the Money
From arriving to leaving everything was excellent. Staff couldn’t do enough. Breakfast, lunch and dinner all superb. Cocktails even better. We were all inclusive so took full advantage of everything. Expensive but well worth the money. Spa was also excellent. Beach is also pristine. Thanks for looking after us so well.
Pure luxury with classy, real service and style
Stunning, true luxury in that the incredible beach and service are matchless. Definitely get an all inclusive package if you plan to eat and drink at the hotel - prices are steep otherwise (or of course you can eat out, but plan that in advance). Try snorkelling down the jetty end of the beach to see the best sea life but you can find turtles anywhere. Takes a little getting used to how attentive the service is, but you’ll adjust ; ) Terrific food at Jetty and Indigo. East is worth a try but doesn’t have beach views. Ottimo ok if pressed but can be slow just after opening. If you have kids the activities are great, babysitting very good, and the main pool not too deep. Didn’t use cinema, did love the well stocked library. Well located for English Harbour, Shirley Heights. Not too bad for St. John and Stingray City. Lovely suites with great bathrooms and aircon. I can’t recommend this resort enough.
Such a wonderful, relaxing stay at Carlisle Bay!
The property was fine. It was listed as a five star resort but did not feel that way when there. The food was okay and overpriced for what we received. Additionally, almost all of the staff, aside from the person that checked us in, the wine pro and Winston at the front, seemed unhappy, irritated and didn't like to be bothered with questions or helping. On our second day, a beach attendant told me they don't have menus at the beach or serve food, but he could bring me a bag of chips and a "toasty." An hour later, another beach attendant walked by to ask if we would like to see a menu from the Jetty to order food / drinks? It just seemed underwhelming and unhappy. The property is beautiful and has potential to be great with happier, helpful people and better food.
Lovely staff but this is not a 5 star hotel
Lovely hotel but not 5 star. Rooms are large but dated and insulation in between rooms is not good so hope for quiet neighbours. We stayed in a beach terrace suite with fabulous views and it's just one step from your private terrace to the beach-incredible! This is not a hotel for disabled people - the gym and spa rooms are on an upperfloor and there is no lift access. The tiled suite floors are extremely slippery when wet, including in the shower. The bathroom had ample towels supplied but has none of the things you would expect in a 5 star hotel - no extractor, no magnifying mirror, no make up remover pads etc. The staff however were 5 star - they were all extremely friendly and helpful.
Overall properly is very good. Food is very expensive. It is preferable to take full board package.
Sorry for giving this property a poor review but they had no working treadmills when I arrived. They told me to run outside - it's very hilly, hot and kinda unsafe I felt. Did not offer any other options -- and so had to opt to contacting Expedia to leave early. VERY VERY disappointing. I've never come across a hotel that advertises a gym not have a working treadmill, did not realize I had to confirm beforehand. Not only do I have an upcoming I'm training for but just in general, a hotel gym should have a treadmill.
Environment is low key, peaceful, and very quiet - a great place to just relax. Staff was extremely nice and helpful. Property is well run with thoughtful touches such as coolers of ice and bottled water by all the beach chairs (plenty of chairs and umbrellas by the way). However, meals were extremely expensive, so I recommend doing the inclusive food service. We definitely plan on returning.
We paid for a 5 star hotel however unfortunately the hotel was far from the 5 star service we expected. The hotel was dated and needs a major update. The service was very poor. We complained after a couple of days and the service did seem to improve. The food was average quality and very expensive. We are out of the hotel several times as a result. The location of the hotel is stunning and it has all the constituents of a great resort however it was let down by the upkeep of the property and service. The owners appeared to be visiting the property while we were there. Hopefully improvements follow.
Loved the level of service.
Beautiful setting on a gorgeous beach
Overall great but service way too slow and food unreasonably pricey
The property and the staff are top notch. The Bay is beautiful. 2 things that make this a 4 star for me and not a 5 star. 1. The water in Carlisle Bay is not as clear or blue as the rest of the west side of Antigua. So if clear blue water is your thing then this is not an ideal spot geographically. 2. They should have a game room - (ping pong, billiards for example)
My new yearly spot!
I went to unwind from work and it couldn’t have been more relaxing! The people who work there are wonderful and low-key. Everything you need is there for you. And-great WiFi and amazing air conditioning. Room was huge and right over the beach. I would call it paradise. Can’t wait to go back.
#1!
Carlisle Bay is an absolutely fantastic hotel in a stunning location. We received unparalleled service from the moment we arrived. Shannoy Roberts, the Senior Guest Assistant, ensured a warm welcome with refreshing drinks and a room upgrade which enabled all 6 members of my family to stay together in a beautiful ocean front Carlisle Suite. Spacious rooms, elegant furnishing, excellent linens, a dreamlike veranda, direct access to the beach, and beautiful surroundings all came together to give us a fabulous experience! The hotel employees were helpful and courteous, eager to make our stay better than we could have imagined. A special thanks to Winston who told us about the fascinating history of the Carlisle Bay!
The best beach resort we have stayed at! The size of the resort was perfect, there were only a few families during the time we were there so it was easy to stay socially distanced. The Terrace room that walks out to the beach is fabulous and amazing to be oceanfront on what feels like a private bay. The water was clear and calm and perfect with a toddler. The staff were great! From Shannoy who communicated with us prior to our arrival and ensure we received the best level of service and addressed all our request, including easy scheduling of I room covid testing before our departure, to the servers and bartenders who were so nice and always made an effort to engage with our toddler. We were there for 8 days so our only feedback would be more variety in food given there were limited restaurants open due to covid. Appreciate the GM checking in on us. The water cooler brought to us daily at the beach was great. And a hotel rep fast tracking us through immigration on arrival was a cherry on top. We don't normally stay at the same resort more than once but I would definitely come back here and highly recommend to others considering!
they need to renew the venue and furnitures staff nice but slow and some of them rude
Beautiful, small resort.Lovely, attentive staff. Food was good, too.
Great stay. Lovely hotel. Antigua is beautiful and the beaches are the best
a sleepy star
Truly exceptional service! I have had the opportunity to experience many luxury resorts, and this place really did stand out from a service perspective. And although the resort was basically at capacity, somehow it still felt quiet, intimate, like you were one of only a handful of guests. That said, it is quiet - almost sleepy. Great if you really just want to unwind and relax, but if you are looking for a vibrant scene with lots to do, this probably isn't the best choice. And the furnishings are a little bit dated - so not the finest of decor. But service could not have been better!
The setting and the staff were both outstanding. Absolutely blissful location for a relaxing holiday with wonderfully friendly staff who made our toddlers' holiday their best yet
Very friendly and efficient staff. First rate food and menu options. Only downside was the Italian restaurant was only open for lunch and not dinner during our stay.
Carlisle Bay Antigua
Excellent spot...although not quite so superb as in previous visits. eg “East” restaurant has dropped a notch. Lovely staff and gorgeous rooms.
Great hotel, recommended
The hotel was fantastic and had everything one can ask for, great service, great beach, good food, gym and facilities! The room was fantastic with great views too
Getaway at Carville Bay
Everyone made you feel like a member of the family. It was off season so not crowded. Beach was great. Quiet water and the occasional rain wasn’t a bother. I would skip St John. English Harbor is beautiful and historic. Already planning for return next year
Located on a beautiful, quiet and basically private beach, our suite was awesome. The management and staff were outstanding. Great beachside dining options.
Great Stay... with some challenges
We loved our stay at the Carlisle Bay and would definitely recommend it however there are some pros and cons worth noting. I find this is a 4* , not a 5* resort in terms of luxury and amenities. Pros: - Staff were amazing and so friendly. Cannot emphasize this enough - Beach is beautiful and isolated so feels very quiet even when the hotel is full - Food at all the restaurants was extremely good, East being our favorite - Location is quite good and easy to travel to other parts of the island Cons: - Restaurants are not all open for dinner so it's important to do your research. Some nights you are limited to Jetty Grill and Indigo which have similar menus. East was absolutely the best. - Reservations - I would check your reservations with the restaurants. All 4 nights we had email confirmation that we had bookings but the restaurants had no records of this. Luckily staff was great and able to accommodate. - Beach... this is the biggest for me. We had to set an alarm and get up at 6:45AM on our "relaxing" vacation just to get a beach chair. And we definitely weren't the first people out there. This is a messed up system and definitely needs to be repaired. You shouldn't have to get up at sunrise, just to leave a book on a chair until after breakfast. It really ruined our opinion of the resort that they let this happen and encourage it.
Everyone at the resort was beyond professional and accommodating for the entirety of our stay. We stayed in a room with balcony and ocean view. It was perfect. There were many food options also which was nice. Everything that we ate was delicious. Would definately recommend and stay again
Really liked the location. Clean room, great staff and excellent service.
Relaxing stay
A beautiful secluded bay! The hotel was great - it is very family friendly so if you’re looking for a romantic getaway maybe not the best option. Breakfast buffet was good athough the menu never changed.
You'll fall in love again...
My partner and I were looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway for my birthday. Carlisle was exactly that and more. From the valet parking, to being greeted with a wet towel to clean our hands, and the refeshing cold drinks, it truly was a welcome to remember. The rooms were spacious, very clean and cozy. The food was amazing and the best part was the beach. The views were like heaven on earth. Staff amongst the hotel were very pleasant and very accommodating. Can't forgot to mention the tranquil spa...after my treatments I left feeling relaxed, and like a whole new women😊. We would most definitely recommend Carlisle Bay Resort if your looking for tranquillity and relaxation. Looking forward to booking again in the Spring.
Not a 5 star property, but nice. Would give it 4 stars. Food was very expensive and mediocre. Some facilities were stale and wanting. Good place for families with some suites having a spare room with twin beds. They need more staff on the beach.
Did not get the room requested. Was placed in noisy family section of the hotel. Asked to change but disregarded. Room stairs and balcony dirty. Pizza bar was dirty and full of flies.
Beautiful view and nicely calm. Great place to relax. High service level.
I cannot praise this hotel & its wonderful staff enough. Starting off with the VIP welcome, staff were warm & friendly & kept us informed on when the room would be available. We were seated comfortably for the check-in process & given cold towels & welcome cocktails. It was also really lovely meeting members of staff from my mother’s homeland of Guyana! Once our room was ready, we were escorted to it, which was upgraded to a beautiful sea view. The room was clean, beds were comfortable and bedding soft & good quality. Complimentary drinks & snacks in the mini bar was a nice touch. Room service was delicious, though overpriced, service was fast. Beach was gorgeous, very thankful it was not a busy time of the year, so had no problems securing seats. Great service here too! Grounds were beautiful & expansive; with so many activities, you could not be bored here. The library had a great selection of books. What can I say about breakfast? Absolutely fantastic & we were seated facing the beautiful beach. Menu options were plentiful, but we were still able to adapt it as desired. We wanted to eat the remainder on the beach, so food containers were provided for us to do so. We did not have to leave for the airport until 3:30pm, Tony was so helpful in allowing us to check out later, we really appreciated this! I will definitely be returning to this hotel for the 5* star treatment we received. Every member of staff we encountered were incredibly warm, welcoming & professional!
The location is beautiful. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The food was amazing. One of the most relaxing places I've stayed.
This is an amazing property. Beautiful beach, had great service in the spa, the food was excellent across the board.
The hotel resort is just amazing 😉 the suite was great overlooking an exquisite view , the whole staff was so welcoming and very good , room service was excellent in preparation and also time to service , I just loved it . Although there are two issues I did not like ,one the resort is so far away from everything , which had nothing to do with how incredible the resort is ; the other which can be definitely improved is their spa , the message was not to the hotel standards . Overall it was an exquisite great experience which I am looking forward to repeat again
The property is very beautiful and is well worth the price and the service was amazing
Michael was terrific. Above and beyond. He was there at every turn.
Beautiful welcoming people and informal signatures before opening your door onto a white sand beach, sunshine winking through palm trees. Time passes with good food, calm waters and peaceful nights. And big thankyou to the awesome kids clubs staff.
Excellent But need better food
The hotel room, facilities and employees excellent. Even that the hotel is to "rest" the bar should be open later not until 11pm. Need some change with the food. I didn't like it.
The property is gorgeous. Efficient and friendly staff. Loved my room. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Great property. Good location. Nice rooms. Great people.
I cannot say enough about this resort and the amazing staff. The staff went above and beyond to ensure an amazing vacation. We got cool towels and welcome drinks when we arrived and were upgraded to an ocean suite as they had one open. Our rooms were turned down each night with slippers and water by the bed. The island itself is beautiful and the best way to describe it is raw beauty. It’s untouched and natural. If you are looking for a get away to relax and enjoy a beautiful place, this resort is highly recommended.
Nice and quiet, freindly staff, liked the gym and pool was lovely. I had a great time with the hobie cat daily and the paddle. My took videos and relaxed on the bay.
we stayed for three nights, the hotel is beautiful, well maintained and very clean. beautiful beach with comfy and new beach loungers, great service and friendly and attentive staff. view from rooms is amazing, you wake up looking at the calm and beautiful carlisle bay. water is compelteley calm, shallow and warm so perfect for children. some corals and fish on left end of the beach if you like to snorkel. snorkeling boat trips from hotel to cade reef are worth a trip. we were here in off season (june) so hotel was quite empty and we could stay in room until our departure in the late afternoon. food is good but everything is pricy as you may expect in a hotel like this (and is also on the rest of antigua!) pool is big and nice but as beach was so charming we never went there. well worth a trip!
Nice location, comfortable beach chairs and nice amenities
The only thing I didn’t like was that the bed was uncomfortable. Everything else was exceptional
Very quite and secluded, left my phone in my room all day.

a wonderful relaxing resort
