Hotel is Dated but OK Base for One Night
Stayed for one night whilst on a business trip to Coventry. Hotel was quite tatty and dated. Room was comfortable though and had a great view over the cathedral. Check in was simple enough but staff weren't overly friendly, it just seemed like a process and lacked a welcome. Price was reasonable.
Britianna Hotel Conventry
The bathroom had hair everywhere on the unit, and the toliet top and the bathroom which was not cleaned and the shower cap was not running water properly. The was little bugs walking on the unit I wouldn't recommend this hotel for any and we didnt get any customer service.
There were bugs in the Room on the bed side darw
Overall an excellent experience. That was my first time staying there. The security guy was excellent, can’t fault him. Just thought the actual member of staff, was a bit unfriendly. Otherwise, i actually recommend to friends and family.
The plumbing needs some attention. The flush on the toilet and sinks were lacking in pressure
Great stay
The staff members were so pleasant and accommodating. I love the whole feel of an old hotel, love how they still have the mail shelf, the chesterfield sofa in the lobby. The room was clean and bright, the bathroom was spacious and clean. Location is perfect and very central.
Basic but perfectly fine
Basic but perfectly serviceable accomodation, bed was clean and comfy and everything worked.
Great location
Great stay
The place was nice, but I only needed it for one night,so it did the job,I didn’t like the fact you needed proof of who you are,I didn’t have anything on me,and was told I couldn’t get in,which wasn’t right
Don't check in early Coventry
Busy hotel you Must have a passport to check in (not sure why) as Coventry is in the UK Britain clean warm quiet room
Kp
Was mixed reviews on this hotel but thought give it a go and it was good . Great location for city centre
Not amazing, room cold although spacious
I stayed in Britannia hotel many times, location is good and very good value of money.
We had a good stay but hotel needs update inside and out
Rude staff and no free WiFi.
On booking page says WiFi in room and they decided to put it in the small print that it is £7 per a day for WiFi. The mattress had a large rip in it. There was still animal hair on the floor. The staff were not polite at all when I checked in. This is the worst hotel I have stayed at and I have stayed at over 50 hotels this year between Spain, France and the uk. I would not recommend this hotel and I was looking at booking a few extra nights but with no free WiFi and rude staff we have booked a different hotel.
I was really surprised at how spacious the room was - there was lots of room to move and to spread out. Bed was comfy and the extra cushions were good. I liked the room in the bathroom and having a bath in a hotel room for the price i paid was a luxury. Desk staff were helpful, security on the door, housekeepers who were friendly. Only downside was the not having the plug socket by the bed but walking across the room not a hassle.
Very reasonably priced for a city hotel. Very convenient for the coach station. I would definitely book this hotel again. The room was much better than I expected and was very clean. The only fault I had was there was no socket at the side of the bed to charge a phone.
No plug near the bed is frustrating
There’s no sockets near the bed in this hotel which is frustrating when you want to plug in and use your phone at the end of the day. They have USB ports but that’s a few times I’ve stayed and none of them work. No shower Gel in the shower gel holder and the hotel could be doing with a lick of paint. That being said; the hotel staff were friendly and allowed me early check in without charging me which was a nice touch. The cleaners only come round during your stay if you request them.
The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of the city newr the town centre. Lots of food places to select.
In a poor condition, run down. Shame cos I like the old buildings. As soon as walk in signs saying bad language and behaviour will not be tolerated! Had to show photo id of both of us staying. Not good first impressions. In ladies toilet a wet / used sanitary pad left on top of the bin. Only good thing was convenient location. Staff not overly friendly at reception. Initial girl nice showing us map to the car park and putting luggage in storage but then later a man looked as if not as sure what doing which is fine but just not friendly with situation getting luggage and not explaining where our room was. It’s simple manners.
Location great but needs upgrading
The location is good, right in the city centre. The reception area is ok. However, the rest of the hotel needs an upgrade. The room itself and definitely the bathroom needed upgrading. The room seemed clean enough but when I hung something in the wardrobe it got dusty.
The hotel facilities are old, but the rooms are kept clean. Staff were very helpful and a leak in the shower was quickly repaired. The hotel is located just outside Coventry bus station and is easily accessible from Birmingham airport. The centre of Coventry seems relatively safe, but the hotel is guarded 24 hours a day. It would be nice if the hotel had a launderette.
A place to chill
satisfactory
Good sized double room and clean inside the room. However, shower was faulty. It was very noisy with people screaming/ arguing inside hall at 4am. There was leaks inside the hall, the place definitely needs some maintenance. The staff were helpful though to check in. WiFi didn't work.
close to the shopping area, with many food/cafe/restaurant options nearby
This was a very poor experience, the room was classes as an executive double. Worn out, tired, poor quality. Not an experience I want to repeat.
Mixed feelings
Staff friendly and happy to please. Breakfast was excellent - hot, lots of variety, plentiful too. However one of the worst nights sleep I have had for a long time. ! The bed was extremely hard and as I have arthritis and fibromyalgia, it has brought on a bad flare up. I am in a lot of pain as a result. Even my husband had a bad night for the same reason ! As a result we wil it stay at this hotel again.
The picture of the hotel on Hotels.com is misleading. I walked down from the station and the only highlight of the walk was the alleyway between the cathedral and the Hotel. The Hotel reminded me of ones built in the 60s in the former Soviet union. All concrete like a wedding cake. I was met with surly staff on arrival and a big notice stating that ID was required, which was not mentioned on the Hotels.com website. The rooms were outdated and sparse. One of the good points in the room was that the bed was extremely comfortable, unlike the IHG in Jesmond which was diabolical.
Not the greatest check in experience.
Checking in was slow, with computer frozen during the process and staff working under demanding pressure with lots to check in. Other customers returning to reception with keys not working and another not able to get into their room due to an error that the check in staff made the day before. Check in processes and the hotel seems dated, causing longer than required waits for the customer. It was one member of staff checking lots of guest in then eventually the manager helped out.
Staff are always very welcoming as im a regular guest at this hotel.
Simply fabulous
Great
Nice location.
Pleasantly surprised!
Not exactly the prettiest hotel but its functional & clean & the proximity to the Cathedral where I was performing made it ideal. I was able to book an accessible room on the morning of arrival & this was HUGE and had TWO bathrooms! Staff were very friendly.
Couldn't be nearer Cathedral
Location superb backing onto Cathedral. Room cheap & spacious but dated. Parking is nearest public car park, 5 mins walk. Reception staff unhelpful. WiFi expensive and slow. But room so cheap that extra for parking and wifi seemed reasonable.
On the website there is no family room but when you have clearly booked double room and you ask for the same they say they will if they can give the same because coach have been booked and hence cannot be given to anyone else. if the room doesn't exist on the website then why would they allow to book it. Wifi which is the basic requirement in today's world they charge exhorbant rates and that too like per device, imagine your family having 5 devices they would charge per device 7 pound that would be equivalent of booking the room. some staff friendly, some of them are not. you can clearly see when they don't have answers and try to fool you. Close to city centre and bus station that is the only added advantage.
It’s not like that what they showing in a pictures even I didn’t go to the room after seeing the hotel
Great stay
Ideal for a few nights to explore area. Could probably do with a makeover but that would raise the price. Ideal place to stay.
Curtains were not long enough to cover window so when the sun came up the room was lit up. Dirty socks left under a bed. Stains on carpet. Constant noise from lifts. Room needs lots of TLC. Bathroom was not up to par. Staff were okay but ignorant and dismissive when checking in. Slept well.
Refused entry and refused refund!
Hotel refused check in and entry to room for being 17 and refused refund too. Said there was an over 18 rule but did not ask date of birth when booked and paid for room online. Left 3 young boys far from home vulnerable for the night.
Not again
The didn’t work only one plug socket worked. Staff shouting at each other in reception and restaurant the next morning. Talking about the basement flooding.
Nice hotel in a good location.
Good location. As I arrived early I was allowed to check in at 2.30 pm. Probably should have read when I made the booking but I did not realise WiFi was not free! Not everyone requires 24 hours so I thought £7 was a bit excessive.
Old Midlands hotel
Worst ever
At 10 o clock at night refused entry as my wife did not have a passport or driving licence. She has neither. Looking at reviews we had a lucky escape.
Not recommended
No WiFi, Basic Breakfast, Rooms very dated, no heating
dirty No hot water staff untrained, unprofessional and generally very unwelcoming.
Sturdy room and bed. Clean conditions. Good water supply in shower. No problems at check-in. Wifi was not free. A popup window asked for debit/credit card payment details. I'd rather walk to McDonald's and use free wifi there (without risking my card security). Please install electrical power sockets on the wall beside the bed. It was difficult to operate an alarm clock and phone on the bedside table (needing a long extension cord across the room).
Not a welcoming staff.
The outside looked scruffy and tired abd the lobby area rather dark and dated. Once in the corridor leading to our room on the third floor it was tidy bright and newly decorated. The twin bed room was large clean and comfortable. A good night's sleep.
We liked the fact that the hotel was situated in the city centre and also the room rates were friendly
Reception staff late in eveninge was not helpful, even though I had booked & PAID for the roo site site
The cleanliness was exceptional. The decor of my room on the 5th floor was nice. Slept well. No problems. But I would have liked a warmer welcome when I checked in. Please ask staff to say 'Welcome'. They might like to ask 'Is this your first time to stay at Britannia?' 'Where have you travelled from today?' Anything like that would be nice and doesn't take long!
When booking my stay at Britannia, I made the decision to do so judging by the photo displayed on the Britannia website thinking it looked ok. But on my day of arrival and as my cab was approaching the hotel my heart sank when I looked up and saw just how filthy dirty the outside of the Britannia looked, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I don't know when this hotel opened, but I would guess that the outside of the Britannia has never been cleaned since it's opening day which I would think could possibly be late 70's / early 80's, that's a long time without a scrub. Having said that, my room was a decent size, it appeared to be clean enough, but I couldn't help but feel unclean whilst staying there because of how the outside of the Britannia looked. This hotel is really old, as were the fixtures and fittings in my room. No mixture taps in the bathroom because they wouldn't have been invented when this hotel opened, but it left using the hot water tap impossible because it was so boiling hot, and you would have to turn the cold tap so many times before the water would start to run. I honestly considered moving to another hotel, but the only reason I stayed was because the staff were nice and very friendly, plus I got so caught up in the history of Coventry and it's ancient buildings that it took my mind off the Britannia. I really did enjoy Coventry itself, but if I were ever to return I would not be staying at the Britannia. This place need a huge injection of money.
Its what you get for the amount you pay.
For a night stay, I would recommend this hotel. The room I stayed in was big and clean. Surprisingly, the both bathroom and the carpets are as clean as they can get. Mattress was hard and it feels like you slept on a slab. They don't have free WIFI so recommend to have your own hotspot for internet.
In all my years of working away this has to be the worst place I’ve stayed in. Staff were poor, policies are shocking, unhelpful, inconvenient. I could probably go on all night. I even found the general manager quite rude tbh Might be cheaper than everywhere else but there is a reason why Sorry to be so negative
Might be my thought but no parking and had to pack five minutes away. Should say no parking
Very happy with this hotel. For the pice.
Hotel review
Very nice hotel. The staff on the front desk and security staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. I requested a travel cot for my little one and on arrival it was all ready and set up for us. I would recommend and would stay here again. Some reviews put us off, however we had no issues or concerns
The service at this hotel was the worst i have ever experienced in my life of travels, we couldn't even stay the night, radiator was not working the shower water was not working and everytime i left my room staff had to rest my key. When informed manager she said we were being fussy and asked for a lot, i didnt stay the night and they refused to refund my monies or the payment for the breakfast that wasn't eaten. Worst hotel ever avoid.
Was expecting Casper n friends to say hello. One pillow each for bed didn’t want to use bathroom. Lil bar of soap provided. Everything was 100 years old. Went on a day out drinking, dashed the hotel as soon as it felt it legal to drive.
Had booked a room for my grandson through Expedia who is UK citizen and was visiting Coventry. University . I paid with my credit card and Booking was confirmed. But when he went to checkin, was asked to give a credit card to bill 1 penny for verification. He didn’t have physical card, and uses online card from phone. And was not able to cancel or change name on the booking. While finally he was allowed to checkin, was a very bad experience. Never had this problem in any other hotel in other countries or in London..
Was not happy had to pay for a unfer 1 breakfast to get to adult breakfast bit of a joke really
Outdated
Tvin corner of room, attached to wall so could not face bed. Old shower attached to taps. Bed side lamps, 1 in middle of bed and other no where near side of bed.
Friendly staff
Grest value
Very convenient for town centre, nearby parking good. Large comfortable room for the money, great value indeed.
It was ok for a one night stay, but it’s a bit rich to expect guests to pay for Wi-Fi access when other similarly budget priced but better appointed hotels do not.
Nin
Expensive, not worth the charges.
Welcoming staff, decent sizes room. Good heating in the room. However, no water provided in the room. Had to go down to the restaurant to fill my bottle several times. The restaurant also closed at 9 & was closed on 29th April. Average. Definitely not worth £54 for one night.
Hotel is shabby and old , room was ok but bathroom was tired and felt grubby . They demand photo id from all visitors to book in but this isn't mentioned anywhere when you book . There is no onsite parking ( again not mentioned at booking ) and the suggested car park is a grim .
Average level
Average level.
Check in staff was rude, felt unwelcome. Could sleep due to loud banging outside and the room itself was not very clean. Towels etc had marks on them & grime in the shower.
Room smell, disgusting
This hotel needs vast improvement, my room was freezing and had a terrible smell. This hotel is in desperate need of renovation for the price paid for better for far less.
Wouldnt come back
Front desk service not pleasant or welcoming Tv did not work Bed super uncomfortable Outdated but would be functional if xirr items were replaced when needed
The newest thing in the room was ME!
This place needs some serious updates. Considering it is in smack bang middle of city centre they have really missed the point. Nothing is new! Smell of old carpets and falling of curtains. The newest thing in the room was ME!
No ID no check in
Check-in felt restrictive, resembling a prison entry with prominent warnings throughout reception. Signs cautioned about potential ID checks anytime, while others in bold red warned that no ID meant no check-in. Smoking was strictly prohibited, carrying a hefty £100 fine. The initial experience lacked warmth, and the room, resembling a 1970s time capsule, featured a disconcerting howling sound from the windows. The bed's quality was subpar, with every mattress spring noticeable.
Room facilities excellent, recently decorated.
Comfortable room
Where as the staff cannot be faulted at this establishment, there were elements that were rather concerning, there was constant noise from the street, the bed was extremely hard and at 4am there was someone walking up and down the hallways nocking on doors pretending to be paramedics, this was quite concerning as when I asked at reception upon checking out they had no recollection of any paramedics being in the building at that time.
Good enough
A one night stay to support Maidstone United. Perfectly adequate town centre hotel. Room clean but a bit tired. Bed ok but on the firm and thin side
The check in was good, room very clean and comfortable there was tea and coffee with milk, sugar and cups clean quiet kettle, but you had to keep asking every day for milk for the next day. WiFi too expensive and had to keep having your key card renewed to enter your room. Hotel was warm and quiet.
Outing
Great stay will go back
Cheap deal for a cheap room!
The walls had remnants of some sticky sauce (I’m trying to be positive that the second episode of Chainsaw massacre was not filmed in that room) and only one set of towels for two people was a poor performance. The word toiletries only expands to a hand soap and a toilet roll.
Rooms dirty not cleaned properley beds uncomfortable.
A nice place to stay
This hotel is always a good value for money with nice room normally with a bath and shower. Just across the road from the transport museam
It was value for the money, nice location
Good location and staff is friendly
Wifi is not free eve though the property description says it is free
A nice place to stay
The Hotel.is a nice place to stay opposite the main bus station and close to city centre.Right near some good restraunts and a good Witherspoon's pub. After 6pm you have to press a button to enter the hotel with security on so quite safe
The first thing is the location is good. Staff pleasant and helpful. You had a choice of breakfast, and what was very helpful was I need to check out at 10am but I had engagements for the rest of the day before going home and was able to leave my luggage in a safe place at the hotel and collect it when I was ready, no extra charge.
A good city centre located Hotel
I have stayed here a few times it's a nice hotel .A bit old looking but very comfortable and Value for money .I have extended my stay day by day .As I came for2 days after my mother died but sort things out is taking a while .But staff are very helpful and make it easy.makes the stay relaxing .In city centre so near shopping and places to eat, with the motor museum and Main bus station opposite
Rude manager Terrible
Worst hotel in Coventry avoid
Didn’t get to to stay because they refused my partner because she didn’t have any I’d. I booked the Room Had my passport, so couldn’t cancel because it was non refundable. Worst hotel experience I’ve ever had shocking customer service
amazing hotel
Average
While the price was reasonable, other factors were below average for such a reputable organization. I understand the efforts put into managing businesses like these but thus one did not meet any expectations. Three most significant things that weren’t good about our stay: WiFi is not available unless it’s paid for separately and even then it’ll be for one device only. We weren’t told about this until the morning after we checked in. The shower head in our room had no control, only the tub tap worked and even then there was nothing to collect the water with for a decent wash. One of the female staff at the reception desk had a constant frown all night, did not check us in when the other staff was busy and would not open the door when I was locked out due to a fault that developed in the front door. I waited until another resident who was stepping out opened the door from inside. I’m not sure why she was unhappy but I did not expect that to be transferred to customers. Overall underwhelming experience, I just remember we could not wait to leave.
Other than near Coventry Uni, the rest is bad. Poor staff service. Dirty bed. Smoking smell.
Needs to be completely refurbished
Lovely property, clean, easy access to shopping area. Would stay again.
