Nice room, a/c, WiFi and parking challenges.

Room was nice and the location is fabulous. However, the WiFi didn’t work and they hadn’t yet switched from heat to A/C, so we had to keep the windows open above the very noisy street. Also, there is NO convenient parking whatsoever. On balance, a pretty nice place but with big downsides.

From the reviews the hotel appeared to be a good choice for a few days, however when got there later in the evening, it was not open for business, all closed up. In fact it still appears on the website as a fine place to book while in reality is closed.

An Excellent Stay

We spent three nights at this hotel and can thoroughly recommend it. The hotel is centrally located (almost opposite the Varna clock-tower), is a short bus ride from the station and the bus from the airport stops in front of the hotel. The room was quite spacious and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was a buffet with a comprehensive choice of food. The reception staff were helpful.

Great location but grumpy reception staff who bordered on rude. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was adequate. The hotel calls itself ‘Splendid’, but ‘Above Average’ would do for me.

Very tired hotel need of upgrade from beds to furnishings. Cigarette smoke all through room, very unpleasant. Good location nice buffet breakfast.

Location is the primary asset of this hotel, across from the cathedral and city park. It is close to restaurants, pharmacies, bakeries, etc. My room was clean and the bathroom was nice. My one negative was the fact that my air conditioning did not work for my entire 3 day stay.

Beautiful hotel close to the cathedral

Well situated close to the cathedral, the hotel is clean and well kept. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I will definitely recommend this hotel and will gladly come again in my next stay in Varna.

Wonderful staff, perfect location. Left purse in their restaurant and safely retrieved it from front desk sometime later.

Hotel was much better than expected.

We were quite pleased with this hotel. It was much better than we expected. The hotel is very comfortable and charming. The staff were great and treated us like valued guests. Breakfast was included in the nightly rate and was very good. We would have nothing negative to say if we had not rented a car. The hotel offers free parking but it's off site about a block away. It's a bit of a nuisance getting the Porter to go and open the door when you want the car out and then when you return. Minor inconvenience and we will return to this hotel next time we are in Varna. Recommended!

Mini break in Varna.

We have stayed in this superb Hotel 3 times. Boutique Splendid is definitely our Hotel of choice. The staff in the Hotel are friendly, helpful & polite & we are already looking forward to meeting with them again before too long. Great central location, secure private parking & good breakfast.

Fantastic location

I had the top room suite with the most incredible view of the cathedral and square. The English speaking staff were friendly and helpful. There is no designated parking but street parking outside did not prove difficult. I would use this hotel again if staying in Vana. Do not under any circumstances consider the Chinese restaurant next to the hotel for food, it was dreadful.

Excellent location, very well run and nice hotel

I had a great experience with this hotel. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the room was beautiful ... a corner front room with a stunning view of the beautiful Russian Orthodox Church directly across the street. The hotel also was right in the center with a nice 10-minute walk mostly on the pedestrian mall to the beach on the Black Sea.

The right place to stay

Very happy with this hotel, where I stayed for three nights. It has a central location, not far from the main plaza on Varna and walkable distance from everything. The hotel has that old classic style, and the room was surprisingly large and nice, with a view of the park and main cathedral across the street. The breakfast was on the high side of serviceable, and if I remember correctly the wifi was stable and fast. No complaints at all.

Value for money, good location, great rooms. NeXT time Varna, for sure I will come again.

Extraordinary hotel in downtown Varna

The hotel Splendid is an exceptional hotel. Very well located downtown, the hotel is a short walk from most attractions and the beach. Our studio was luxuriously appointed and spacious with a terrific view. We found parking easily on a side street next to the hotel. Also good Chinese restaurant right next door. Highly recommended!

GREAT HOTEL AND LOCATION

Great location, bus to and from airport outside of hotel and only 20 to 25 min away. Great shopping and restaurants all within walking distance. The Cathedral and Tourist Info across the street. Hotel is over 100 years old and completely refurbished. Huge and comfortable room with 10 feet ceilings. Our room had a sofa and comfy chair with a great view of the Cathedral. Room was immaculately clean with extra large bathtub; excellent buffet breakfast with helpful staff; excellent value.

Lovely reception staff at a great hotel!

This was a last minute booking for me and I couldn't have hoped for better. The receptionist on arrival was efficient and friendly and kindly printed my boarding pass for my flight the next day. The hotel is a few minutes from the Opera House and away from the landscaping works in the main town so again I was so lucky on location. The restaurant in the hotel is open for breakfast only but there are plenty of places nearby. There is also a supermarket 100m away which was a real bonus. My room was really lovely, and was cleaned so well. Everything worked, lovely carpet, clean smelling and great wifi So yes, I was impressed at this boutique hotel which had higher standards then many 5 stars I have stayed in!

IDEAL BREAK

the hotel is perfect for a a few days break with a spacious room and excellent service from staff. The only thing to let it down is the very basic breakfast which does not do the hotel justice

Great service

My apartment was large and comfortable with the exception of the central air conditioning which was inadequate on really hot days. The breakfast was varied and excellent. I was cheated by a taxi driver going from the airport to my hotel. The hotel receptionist was kind enough to track him down, report him to the cab company who made him come back to the hotel and return the overcharged fare. The location was great and easy to find.

Smoking room

The room I booked said a smoking room but when I got there there was a sign in the room saying there would be a 50 euro charge if there was evidence of smoking in the room. When I enquired they showed me my booking which did say a smoking room but they said it was a mistake but if I leaned out the window of the third floor to smoke it would be ok

Perfect location opposite to cathederal and not far from the main sites. Private parking was essential and most welcome. Better than many 4* hotels with good spacious room and separate lounge area. Excellent Value. Also unsurprisingly found many business people staying at hotel

Perfect for a short stay.

The location was central for seeing the city. Very easy for the taxi to find and we could walk to the park as well as the train station. Our room was spacious and beautifully furnished. After a few stairs up from the street there was an elevator.

Believe the reviews

Hard to find, until you find it, then you realize how well positioned it is. Breakfast could use an improvement. But don't stop from staying because of that. great value in a great city.

Amazing value.

Great location in the center of Varna. Very accommodating. Very pleasant and comfortable. If you are looking for a great, spacious room, great service and a great location at a great price, this is the place. They also serve a very nice breakfast. I have been to Hotel Splendid three times, and I intend to stay there next time I am in Varna.

Lovely hotel, good location

Just the one night on a quick tour of Bulgaria. Easy to find, clean and comfortable. Breakfast lacking a little but sufficient. Nice bar next door with freindly staff

Birthday

The hotel is located in the beautiful center of Varna. The hotel staff is friendly and efficient (and fluent in English). The rooms are comfortable and large. Wireless contact is good. I recommend this hotel.

Central Varna

A beautiful location, across the street from the church where I was baptized long ago. So it is a bit special. But the room was cold, and I was not comfortable.

Splendid!

This is a really great Boutique Hotel. Everything about it was fantastically good. Anybody choosing to stay would not be disappointed, and if so they would be hard to please. The one bed with a separate lounge was absolutely huge. Bathroom good, to shower you climb into the tub and shower is over bath. My only complaint is that the small reception had no information about the city, what we could do and not even a map of the city. She turned around and pointed out the window to a blue building and said that was information and we could get a map there. It was 18.30! I felt a hotel of this calibre could provide a simple map of the city! however, "it was out of season" the date of arrival was 29 October 2013. I would like to mention that although the hotel has a lift, from street level there are at least 6 large steps to climb before getting to 1st Floor where reception is situated and where the lift starts. For a handicapped person this may be a problem, I walk with a crutch and it was a bit of a problem getting up and down them.

Ideal hotel at excellent price

Very nice hotel, apartment rooms very large. Staff helpful and courteous.Close to about everything one could need including airport bus stop 30 seconds away.

Great 4 star hotel

We booked this hotel, after reading some of the reviews. We were more than satisfied. We got the studio and it was very spacious and well equipped. The view was great facing the catedral. We were afraid that the room might be noisy, because it was facing the main street. But it was well isolated. We didn't use their parking because they said it's pretty small. We never had any problem parking on the street in front of the hotel. The only suggestion i'd like to point is that they should use darker curtains. Overall we highly recommend this hotel for its location, charm, character and service.

Not a 4 star place

The hotel might have been 4star once, but is certainly has not been maintained to that level of standard. While the bathroom was renovated, it was done in a cheap way and things were beginning to fall apart. The shower flooder. The hotel advertises as being bussiness friendly, yet there is no socket anywhere near the desk. In fact there was only one useable socket near the window - clearly not very useful if one wanted to plug in a computer and work.

Good value for money

The hotel was good value for the money. The staff were friendly and the room was solid. Wi-fi worked well and the breakfast was fine. The hotel is a little bit further from the beach than some others, but not more than a 15 minute walk.

Excellent hotel with good value for your $$

Good value for the money. Centraly located, close to shopping, bus station not far. Rooms are very comfortable, studio is even better with a small balcony. Gorgeous view of the cathedral. Helpfull staff, arranged for us a rental car, recommended sightseeing trips. All in all was very good experience we liked it enough that we extended our stay in Varna.

Splendid Hotel

I stayed here with my mother and it was an extremely comfortable and pleasant experience. We had a quiet, spacious room, more like a mini-apartment, which had a huge bedroom, sitting room, entrance hallway and bathroom. It was very quiet - I'm very fussy about noise - so this is always an important feature for me and this was perfect. The hotel staff were lovely - some spoke better English/Russian than others but all were very willing to help and lovely. Well-located - it's right opposite the main Cathedral and we took a bus ride from the airport-bus stop right opposite hotel. The hotel is out of the way from the main night-life of Varna but if you want busy-ness and a choice of restaurants, the main pedestrianised street where all this exists is only a short walk away. It's about a 20 minute walk to the beach. I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly to others.

We booked three rooms for our family. Two were OK but our's, on the 5th floor in the attic, was poor. There was noise from the seagulls on the roof and the air conditioning did not work. Despite a complaint, and request to change rooms, nothing was done. We did not stay in the room very much though. If we go again we would not accept a room on the 5th floor.

surprise in black sea bulgaria

from the outside, the hotel can be deceitful: it occurpies about half of what looks like a century-old office buliding. there is no lobby on the entrance level. on the first floor is reception. rooms have an old-world charm and spacious living area. my room had magnificent views of assumption cathedral, the tower and the black sea. rail station is a 12-minute walk; bus station, a seven-minute bus ride; black sea a 10 minute walk. all else in the city is within walking distance. make certain to take the train at least one way from sofia to varna, as the route contains some of most spectacular mountain, river, and lake scenery in the balkans. the bus route is only boring highway. buses are very crowded and uncomfortable. prices are the same. make certain to get a first-class seat: it's only 4 dollars more than second class for a very long ride. (7-8 hours).

As my 7 year old said-it really is splendid!

We would highly recommend this hotel, location is perfect and the rooms are very clean and high quality for the price. Our only problem was the first evening the AC did not work in our room-the night reception claimed it was a problem in the hotel but it clearly was n't. The top floor rooms arevery warm-fantastic view of cathedral-but sweltering. The next day they moved us straight away and upgraded us to an apartment with AC that was fantastic and did not charge us any more. The hotels.com rate was by far cheaper than the direct rate. Other reviews commented on the breakfast-it was not great-but to be honest it is typical Bulgarian-and that is what you have. We will definately stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

Kaunis hotelli hyvällä sijainnilla

Loistava sijainti, talo on kaunis ja vanha, mutta kaipaisi remonttia. Kaupungin päänähtävyys näkyy ikkunasta :). Siistit ja tilavat huoneet kuitenkin ja aamupala ok. Varnassa ei ole kovin paljon nähtävää, joten kannattaa tehdä päivämatkoja esim. Nessebariin ja mahdollisesti yöpyä useammassa eri kaupungissa reissun aikana, sillä välimatkat esim. Albenaan ja Nessebariin on lyhyet, vain 1-2h paikallisliikenteellä.

Hotelli erittäin hyvällä paikalla. Rantalomaa haluavalle ei paras mahdollinen valinta, muuten kaupungille helppo kulkea kävellen. Respan henkilökunta ystävällinen ja plavelualtis, auttoi varaamaan retken. Lentokenttäbussin pysäkki hotellin edessä. Pääsi paikallisbussilla edullisesti ( 1lev). Yhden hengen huone tilava, siisti, tunnelmallinen,sisustus vanha ja rosoisuutta ja kuluneisuutta. Kylpyhuone siisti, kylpyamme. Aamiaisella paljon vehnästä, mutta myös hedelmiä tarjolla. Wi-Fi toimi ilman salasanaa, piti toimia vain yleisiissä tiloissa, mutta toimi myös huoneessa. Hyvät näköalat. Liikenteen äänet kuuluivat päiväaikaan, yöllä ei haitannut. Sisätiloissa äänieristys hyvä. Minibaari edullinen. Tallelokero vastaanotossa.

Mahtava huone (studio) näkymät kolmeen suuntaan. Aamupala hyvä. Bussi 409 nurkalta lentoasemalle, bussiasemalle ja keskustan kautta kultahietikolle.Tien toiselta puolelta alkoi kävelykatu keskustaan.

Hôtel Splendid

Très bon hôtel, le personnel est accueillant, une femme en particulier, il est très bien situé, à 10 minutes du centre ville et de la plage, les taxis connaissent très bien le nom de l'hôtel, il est propre, le wifi fonctionne parfaitement. Bref je recommande.
