If the beach is your main priority- this might not be the right resort for you The resort itself was beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, making our experience even better. The food was fantastic, both at the buffet and the restaurants—we were really impressed with the variety and quality. The only downside for us was the beach. I didn’t realize beforehand that only a small section was designated for hotel guests, while most of it was public. Unfortunately, we were constantly approached by vendors trying to sell us things. It made it difficult to fully relax and enjoy the ocean view. Even when we were on the resort’s balcony overlooking the beach, people would walk up to the ledge to ask us to buy something, which got frustrating. If you’re looking for a resort with a peaceful beach experience, this may not be the best fit. But if the beach isn’t your top priority, everything else about the resort was excellent, and we really enjoyed our stay!

The food and drinks were excellent. We did get upgraded being VIP through Expedia, however only benefit was being able to eat at restaurants every night. We did not recieve a room upgrade. The pool entertainment team did a good job keeping us entertained. Room was ok nothing special.

Great place!

I recently stayed at Barcelo Hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. While the property itself had potential, the customer service left a lot to be desired. From the moment I checked in, it was clear that the front desk staff, particularly an employee named Ismael (or possibly Samuel), had a selective approach to customer service. He was notably rude and unhelpful, providing mediocre answers to my questions and showing little willingness to assist. It felt as though he chose which guests to pay attention to, which made the check-in process frustrating. The dining experience was equally disappointing. The food at the specialty restaurants was served cold, and on one occasion, my meal was actually raw. When I asked for an extra item, the server seemed visibly annoyed, which added to my overall dissatisfaction. Additionally, the entertainment options were limited. The shows were only an hour long, and with dinner reservations being scarce, we ended up missing several events because we couldn’t find a suitable time to eat. Overall, I expected a much higher standard of service from Barcelo Hotel. I hope they take this feedback seriously and work on improving their customer experience. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I don’t plan to return.

The bathrooms had broken shower heads and were dingy. The cafeteria food was okay. We chose the Japanese style restaurant which was very good. We also chose the seafood and steak restaurant- not very good. The alcohol was clearly watered down. The staff was the best part of the trip. Very friendly.

Me and my friend spent six days here and we had no complaints! The food was great, this is what we were worried about. It was a super relaxing week with great service!

The rooms are nice and big. The staff are all friendly. The buffet is pretty good and the other restaurants are quite good.

Was a great first time in Puerto Vallarta!

We were given mimosas when we arrived. Check in took awhile because we had a group of 20. A few things to keep track of during your stay: towel cards, room keys and reservation slips. Don't book excursions through the hotel. There are locals that are more accommodating. We booked through the hotel and was given bad information. We missed our firat scheduled excursions and it was changed to a new day. We were given poor instructions and missed another excursion. We were not refunded and the concierge was very rude. There is an adult only pool and hot tub that is nice. Fun entertainment during the day and shows at night. The kids pool is nice and warm with a little waterslide. You can order extra water for your room if needed.

Very relaxing vacation

We really liked how friendly everyone was and how safe we felt. Also it provided whatever you were looking for, if you wanted to relax or if you wanted to party and listen to music. The food was really good and there were many options. We will be back.

Being in the Mismaloya Cove was unique. Lots of locals visit the beach with their families. Great people watching and is in keeping with the boutique size and feel of the resort. The views were spectacular. Some renos to the older bathrooms ie shower heads and new grouting would be enjoyed better. Food, service, facilities and entertainment were all lovely.

Had a lovely trip with my family. There was a mix up with our room on the first day and it got sorted out. I could have made a big stink about it but I was there to have a relaxing vacation. The buffet didn’t disappoint. It was great getting to whale watch while eating breakfast :) Bus stop is right across the street and will get you to the historic center for 10 pesos. Rooms were spacious and slept comfortably. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Amazing stay. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, situated on a beautiful beach and right in the jungle. The pools and jacuzzis are well laid out and there are a lot of activities if you are so inclined. It’s close to Los Arcos for amazing snorkeling and also snorkeling right from the beach is not bad. The staff are very friendly and try hard to make it an amazing experience. Food was delicious especially in the a la carte restaurants. We had a great time and would return there again.

Amazing stay.

We went to Barcelo on a family vacation. 6 adults and 4 kids ages 18 months to 8 years old. We had the best experience. The staff is friendly and great with the kids. The food and drink options were endless. Pools and beaches were clean and easily accessible. They have lots of activities for all ages. From yoga to paddle boarding for the adults and cookie making and face painting for the kids. Our nephew celebrated his 8th birthday on the trip and the staff sang to him and made him his own special birthday dessert. As a big group we did break up our dinner times to accommodate reservations. 6-8 is the maximum for most tables. They did make sure all 10 of us got to sit together for the birthday dinner. Joannna who was a hostess at the Snack Bar and Don Quixote was an absolutely wonderful a staff member. My 18 month old son was having some big feelings and she calmed him down with a game of peek a boo. After that she was his best friend. He would run up and ask for 5 fives and she was always there with a big smile to welcome him. The hotel has a great taxi service that will take you into town and pick you up. The views and colors are incredibly beautiful.

I like the jungle feeling and authenticity. Did not care for the beach area

The resort and staff are wonderful. They help you with any and every situation. The resort is clean and beautiful! Highly recommend it to families of all ages. Something for everyone.

This hotel has an amazing location and very clean. A great place. Unfortunately, the food Is barely edible. Just mass food with no flavor. As long as you are okay with that, this is an amazing place.

The hotel was situated in a very nice little cove with beautiful surroundings. The rooms wery very spacious and well kept. The food on the whole was pretty good. There were many fun activities each day and shows on a stage in the night. I liked the fact that the hotel wasnt to big and there were always plenty of chairs at the pool for everyone.

The location is exceptionally beautiful with mountains on one side and a gorgeous bay on the other. The pools are very nice with little waterfalls. The rooms are huge. Comfortable beds. Good shower. The food is good for an all inclusive. Staff are nice and attentive. There are a few negatives though. The water was too rough to swim on the ocean and there are little biting flies so you need to wear bug spray at dawn and dusk. Also the entertainment at the pool was too loud some days — other days it was fine. Overall a good experience.

The location was very beautiful. The food was good and a lot of options. The rooms need some upgrades. Also if you love to swim in the ocean and lay on the beach this location is not really for that. The beach is small and ocean was deep close to the shore and it was pretty cold. We did enjoy the trip.

Wasn’t as good of an experience as other resorts. Huge rooms but they made me book a separate room from my parents. Water from dispensers wasn’t cold, previous resorts had ice water with fruit all over the resort. Activities were often late or wouldn’t even happen.

Our second stay at Barcelo PV. Came back because we liked it so much 6yrs ago. Brought out 2 kids this time. Property is great. Staff is amazing. Resort is small (which we prefer). Resort is south of the city a ways. For us, this is a good thing as it is quieter. If you are looking to spend time in the city, you’d need to catch a bus or taxi. As you walk the beach, guys with boats will solicit snorkeling, fishing, sightseeing. They are worth hiring. Much cheaper than the commercial options and personalized to what you want to do

Absolutely amazing time. Completely exceeded our expectations. The On-Site restaurants were outstanding. Don Quijote was our favorite, but the other 3 were very good. The Los Arcos Lunch was fabulous, the Taco Bar is a must visit(Thank You Jesus for great Service). Le Fuente offered a great buffet overall, Breakfast Omelet Station was fantastic. The Activity staff(Anahi, Denise, Isabel, Fernando) did not pressure you but were the most entertaining people of our whole trip. The Resort was super clean and the staff was always attentive to our needs. Thank you for an Outstanding Vacation....We will be back.

Cesar in the premium lounge was fantastic. Our room was great. Beds were comfortable would definitely come back again.

We had a lovely time! Hotel is great! The only thing that was not so great were the bugs on the beach that would eat you up! So beware make sure you spray yourself!

Above all else, if you book travel with the resort to the resort (VIP travel), listen to the instructions from the resort. They know what they're doing. The only complaint is with some other travelers. Despite instructions not to, they put towels down on all chairs next to the pool at 7am to "reserve" then but didn't actually use the chairs until well past noon. What a childish move and wasteful. There are plenty of chairs folks. The staff at the resort were amazing and super helpful.

Everything is almost perfect. There are some improvements that needs to be done is the washroom in the room that we are staying in. Because there is no door in the shower area the water keeps coming out and causing the water to flow all over the floor im talking about so much water that one time it went all the way to the hallways. The tub faucet also was leaking. We did not complained as we were able to manage.

Too many rules for trying to get a restaurant reservation. And then men had to wear pants and shoes Buffet was accessible and food was only OK Lot of money for what we got

The architecture and setting were wonderful. That said, the property is isolated from the main town of Puerto Vallarta and requires transportation to get off-site. The staff was attentive and friendly. The facility is showing it's age, as it is about 40-50 years old, so there are maintenance issues that need to be addressed. The shower handle in our suite fell off; there was some mold on the corners and closet doors and fixtures that did not work as they should.

We loved our stay at the Barcelo! The staff were amazing, the food was delicious and scenery fantastic! We hope to go again!

Overall Good Experience

Overall, the staff and service were great and we enjoyed how easy it is to use bus services to get to PV and the water taxi. Our only negative experience was the cleanliness of our room. The curtains were badly stained and the soap dispensers in the bathtub looked moldy on the bottom. The refrigerator was also very dirty. The hairdryer provided was very sticky. The pros far outweighed the cons, but I think that some routine maintenance on those items would make a big difference.

I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and that it was generally laid back. Location was okay, it was interesting to walk the neighborhood across the street and up to the zoo. The food was sub par, seemed like left overs from lunch for dinner and very small portions at the restaurants that you had to book. Me and my whole party have MANY bug bites, which i had read previously in reviews. The service was good however i do find it ridiculous that you had to pay to play the games in the game room. Overall cleanliness was okay. Looks like it could use some updates. I had a lovely time overall, but probably wont return to that resort.

Friendly environment

The property is well taken care of and clean. The rooms and balconies are very spacious. Most staff are kind and welcoming. The hotel is older but nice. There is something to eat for everyone but picky eaters may have a hard time. It is located about 45-60 mins away from the airport depending on traffic. There are lots of boat excursions and some quading/side beside. The zoo is close but I was conflicted the whole time there.

Beautiful setting. Great customer service. Taxis, buses and shuttle easily accessible. Close to many attractions.

Our stay at Barceló Puerto Vallarta was excellent. Do not believe the negative reviews. My husband and I have stayed at ultra luxury resorts and we were just as happy here. Staff went out of their way. Rooms and grounds were impeccable. Views from every room of the ocean. Food was great. We would stay again in a heartbeat.

Beautiful. Everything was perfect minus the fact that my red hair colored the pillowcase slightly and I had to pay 500 pesos. I thought it was absurd. I've never experienced something like that.

Loved everything about this property. Only complaint is the catina chairs and bar stools were very uncomfortable. Couldn't really enjoy that atmosphere. Other then that it was great.

Food was ok! Buffet should have better selection.. Staff should be friendly with everyone..the views are breathtaking and safe!

Beautiful and safe place.

I have no idea where people review this place and want to be negative over the most stupid reasons. First of all the staff are top notch and wonderful no complaints what so ever. The food is FOOD, the Spanish themed resturaunt is superb. The atmosphere is relaxing and enjoyable. If you want to head out on the town a cab ride is easily accessible. Barcello is my go to place for comfort and relaxation, this was my second time there and my better half was her first. Defiantly going to book again.

There is 2 things i think you have to do. Change the format for making dinner reservations,be able to do it from a app instead of standing in a line up.Also the buffet could be better.

Staff was nice, food was below average, none of the specialty restaurants was good at all, food was stale, not fresh ingredients, even the premium area had bad food and very little choices, a couple of people just walked away from the room, pretty bad experience.

We enjoyed most aspects of our stay. The resort grounds were well-maintained, and the communal areas were pleasant. However, our one-bedroom suite felt worn down and could use a refresh, including a new coat of paint. While the cleaning staff tidied the room daily, we noticed leftover toothpaste from a previous guest on the bathroom door that was never cleaned (Room 2517). Our biggest disappointment was the food. The main dining hall was extremely loud, making it difficult to have a conversation over the noise from other guests and the music. Getting a high chair was also frustrating—we sometimes had to wait over 20 minutes or didn’t receive one at all. On our final meal, “Oriental Night” (February 6, 2025), my husband was served raw chicken, and another guest in our party experienced severe food poisoning, vomiting for six hours while travelling home. Unfortunately did not end this trip on a great note…

The property is fine, the bathrooms need repairs, the lady of the excursions has a terrible attitude. The food was not very good.

This is our third stay at this property and it never disappoints. We plan on returning in April for another week.

Was a lot of fun- staff is excellent(maybe over poured on drinks sometimes)- some items in the room needed attention such as towel bars barely hanging on - a facecloth everyday would have been nice to have - just little things - nothing major - property was beautiful- view was great and we liked the little bay and the couple restaurants and massage places there

Barcelo has been our go to for years. A way from the hustle bustle of town but easy to hop a ride in when you want. Mismaloya beach is a favorite. Mingle with the locals,food and drink are fantastic and massage on the beach is affordable and wonderful. Will return soon!

Clean, great food, beautiful views, lots of lounge chairs at pool areas, walk into town activity was fun and free, friendly staff, attentive staff at pool area, pools were nice temperature. First time we have enjoyed beef at a resort. It was done to perfection! All a la carte meals were very good. Downside: main pool where aquasizes were done was too deep for me to participate. I am 5' 1". Shd do that in the adult pool instead. One day the music, announcements and Bingo calling were crazy loud at pool making it hard to relax. Someone must have mentioned it tho and after that was much better. We wd definitely highly recommend this resort.

Amazing stay! Beautiful view of the ocean and the surrounding mountains. The staff was top notch and very professional. Lots of events to enjoy and plenty of food options, we were premium level so maybe our stay may have been better than others. We will for sure be back

We loved our stay at the Barcelo! Lots of great food and drink options that were amazing! They also had a great concierge service that was very able to help. They arranged our transportation to and from the airport and had lots of good excursions available (transportation included). The resort was super fun and we were so sad to leave. We would absolutely stay here again!
