Staff is amazing got to chat with other tenants there an awesome accommodation in the city loved the hospitality
Some of the people staying in the room next to us had a figth with other people and the police had to came. So its really noisy
I liked the friendly staff. respectful people. cosy and warm room.
Excellent spot to stay 😊
Absolutely felt at home here. Clean tidy quiet just a top notch place to stay and the manager was awesome and accommodating. Highly recommend.
All good
The property is in an easy position, staff is approachable. Bed is clean but I sit on the couch in the room and felt itchy. The property is on main road and is not that quite at night. I want to save my luggage for a few hours and was charged extra $5.
Value at very good price.
If only they provide shower gel at the shower room like other backpackers
Closeness to town
Very comfortable
I like that It is conveniently located near shops and other facilities. I didn't like particularly the room I was in it had no Windows
Really close to city (walkable) quiet and clean. Was just a one night bed perfect for in sleep and gone
Staff really helpful allowing me to check in early and clearly have a great cleaning regime. However the place itself is looking a little tired and needs an update and lick of paint. Great value for money however!
Staff responded promptly to any requests or issue. I just think it's a shame that so many hostels don't provide anything for hand drying in toilets.
Not as advertised. Disappointed
Really good value nice and comfortable. Central location
Great.. cheap place to stay and staff were brilliant .. nice and friendly guests too
Sufficient
Satisfactory budget hotel. I was able to sleep and shower. There was even a TV!
Nice staff excellent location in city centre near transport food shopping good room ensuite except bathing Used to have dvd movie nights but now no more
Nice room with sink and toilet.good there is fan as it is summer. Nice helpful staff. excellent location in city centre and near bus stop. close to food and shopping. I always stay here when I come to Hamilton and I have stayed here many times
Clean, quiet and compact internal airconditioned double bed ensuite room next to spacious kitchen and lounge area. A restful overnight sleep. Good value for money
Happy with it on the whole. Clean. Shower base was slippery.
My room was clean and comfortable but the walls were incredibly thin, I could hear everything from the room next door. The kitchen was well equipped but looked a bit tired in places. There wasn’t much of an atmosphere at the hostel but it was okay for a couple of nights.
Great queen room with en suite, mini fridge, TV, and heat pump, super quiet, off street parking, and an Indian and a Thai restaurant right across the road (I went Thai - super yummy). Kitchen/lounge area very clean and tidy. Highly recommended.
The quests were loud, people coming in after 3am partying in their rooms from 23 down. We got absolutely no sleep and couldn’t wait to leave
We felt safe because just 3 of us in the room. Toilet & bathroom were clean but mixed anyway.
Front of house receptionist ws fantastic
No parking
It’s good for the price of it
Great place to stay on a budget
Good facilities nice staff nice room .however my single room ensuite with TV was too expensive at 109 dollars. Later I found out VR Hamilton was offering 100 a night and they are a hotel not a backpackers
Excellent cleaniness! Poor tv reception, no window.
Central location but single female travellers may feel a little uneasy at night as I got the feeling that this is not the greatest area of town as there were a lot of "unusual" people on the street at night which would have made me very uncomfortable if I had not been getting car rides from friends - this is NOT a reflection on the Backpackers though. Staff were super friendly, really clean room and what I saw of rest of facilities in passing. I got upgraded to an ensuite room which was really nice surprise. Close to the bus terminal and the Centre Place Mall and Supermarket.
The shared kitchen facilities were immaculately clean. The bed was comfortable. The other guests and the neighborhood were quiet. Walking distance to town and nice places to eat nearby.
backpacker stay
average service good enough for a few days then becomes normal but o.k ...
Pretty old building, extremely noisy, no curtains or way to block out the light from the skylight in the room, ok for a short stay of needed but sleeping isn’t easy
Couldn’t find where cups were stored. Luckily had water bottle
Handy location. Easy access. Would be nice to have AC in the rooms burnat least the fans are in the rooms. Recommended.
You get what you pay for. Cheap good to sleep in when still travelling. For what it is. It’s good. Unfortunately with either no windows or being unable to open them. It’s extremely hot in the rooms. With no way to cool the room down. The small kitchen and lounge was a great way to meet other travellers and make new friends. Room were sufficient for sleeping in.
Good stay
Short stay at the hotel. The staff was welcoming and the room size was adequate. Even includes simple breakfast. Noticed that there are activities throughout the week mainly cater for people who stay long term. Good initiative.
It is just so close to places that I wanted to visit in Hamilton
Dirty and run down. More of a boarding house than a travellers hostel. Bathrooms in a very poor state of cleanliness.
A very basic hostel type accommodation. Grubby in the kitchen but showers and toilets were good. A little tighter on the cleanliness and it would be fine.
Staff was not helpful..wring date was booked on expedia and no one was helpful..
Comfortable and quiet
Bit far from bars but it's lovely quite place to stay.
OK, good location and accomodation for not expesive prioce
I stayed for 6 nights during winter and came for a conference at Waikato university. Everything was in pretty close proximity and there’s really good Indian food (shout out Jaipur Indian Restaurant). It’s a quiet neighborhood and the Waikato River is right behind the hostel and a river walk which was nice to have. I had a single room which was surprisingly spacious and was near the laundry room. The walls are thin so you can kinda hear everything and so i could hear the laundry if someone was doing it late at night. My room also had a skylight which at first i didn’t know if i would like it because i couldn’t cover it but the light didn’t bother me. The only thing is you need to time your showers right in terms of hot water. I learned the hard way haha. Also it was really cold at night and my personal blanket plus sweater layers were barely enough. They have extra blankets at the reception desk though i just never asked. But overall, I enjoyed my stay.
I really enjoyed the staff and the location was great the only thing I didn't really like was the overall cleaning as the floor in the room we were staying had black sticky stuff all over the floor the sheets were stained and the room smelt really bad.
The people and workers were great nice job guys will be bk to stay
Basic, but clean and comfortable. Value for money. Friendly staff.
Room without windows can has smell. Shower and toilets are ok. Linen didn't look/smell washed.
Standard cheap backpacker accommodation. Not recommended for anyone over 30.
Nice clean rooms, towels and breakfast provided. Lovely stressful even with 3 children. They had a blast! Thank you
Good breakfast options. And clean. Staff was friendly, and well organized.
The staff are friendly. The place is clean. Free breakfast is also included.
Good location close to city and cheap room. Basic but good
The magnet on our door was faulty so our room door never locked which left us quite uncomfortable. There was also a protruding spring on the mattress, again very uncomfortable. Other than this breakfast was great, the staff were accomodating and the facilities were clean and welcoming.
Tidy room all basic comforts.very good front of house service. Location fabulous, easy to find and parking a bonus.
The backpackers was actually way better than I expected after reading previous reviews, but the person on the front desk could be more welcoming and not complain that everyone is checking in at the same time..there was only one guy in front of me....The room was very good, except it was right next to the outside stairs/fire escape which about 20 people clonked their way up while I tried to relax after a long drive. Apart from those things, and the fact I had a rash develop from the bed sheets, and the same grumpy person checked me out, I would probably stay there again
Perfect place for us, a good room to sleep in and comfortable bed. Nothing special for breakfast but enough to get the day started. I would definitely recommend this place to other backpackers
The deck area was very nice. Parking available. Didn’t like that people left the back doors open so anyone from the parking lot could walk in.
Ok for one-two nights
Creepy guy at the reception.
Great location. Walkable distance to restaurant and there is a casino nearby. Room and public area is clean.
Friendly staff, nice room. A few more cooking utensils would be better
A nice and comfortable place for family
Have stayed 2 days with my family in a family room ensuite. the room is clean and beds are comfortable for us. The living area is a big and kitchen is modern. the reception is kind and helpful to book a shuttle to Waitomo cave.
Unaware of backpackers.
Never stayed at a backpackers before, in my head a " Backpackers " was a place were everyone shared the same room, bathroom, and kitchen. Was I shocked and wrong when I turned up to the backpackers lol it was not what I expected that's for sure! Clean, quiet and tidy AND CHEAP! I'd deffinately stay again.
Not the greatest probably want go back. Bed had random hairs in it and fridge was broken. Froze all my food.
Cheap ensute single room
It was OK, private bathroom, no window, mattress no really comfortable but OK for one night, clean and cheap. I recommend take ear plugs for better sleep ;)
Clean and tidy.
Really enjoyed our stay. The ensuite rooms are great value for money.
Central location for fair price
I stayed in a single room with shared toilets. Good location and at the opposite end from all the bars and restaurants. I think it's a fair price for the location.
Bad shock
Single occupancy rooms were expensive but mine was totally windowless and airless and the fan supplied was too noisy to use, as was the small fridge. Shared showers were quite clean as were toilets but lights in them were sensor activated and in the middle of the night I found myself in total darkness on the toilet which was scary, and shower didn’t manage more than a trickle alternatively boiling or stone cold. Kitchen areas not provided with enough cutlery or mugs or plates and what was there was filthy in sink and dish towels also too grubby to dry anything. Hall carpets also filthy bad shabby.
The room was ok for the price and the Toilet and shower was clean. It seams the walls are made from carton as you can hear the people talking next door. I liked the stay but in Hamilton the City council made it really hard to find a spot for the car in the central, when the free parking from the hostel is booked out. So not cool Hamilton Council :( Thanks HH
