Excellent hotel for a stay in Rhodes Town

Really nice hotel, perfectly situated a short walk from the Old Town, ferry terminal and about 20/25 mins from Elli Beach. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Great to have a sitting room and kitchenette and balcony. Breakfast buffet has something for everyone - only criticism is that the food could be hotter.

Athineon Hotel/ Rhodes

Hotel is very good. Clean with excellent service & staff. Suites are spacious. Location is superb. A few minutes walk to the old town center & port. However, bathroom needs renovation. It's 3.5 star hotel rather than 4

Loved our stay at the Athineon. In a great location next to the old town. Had a great view from our balcony overlooking the harbour. Staff were friendly, especially the reception and bar staff. Restaurant food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. Would definitely return!

Liked modern pool area, and clean and spacious lobby. Fantastic views from the balcony over the port area. Attached shop was convenient for snacks and supplies.

Great location

This is our third stay a the Athineon and definitely won't be our last. Great hotel in a great location. Fabulous pool that never gets too busy so none of the dreaded booking sunbeds. Super helpful staff. Only negative for us was that they couldn't accommodate our request for a fourth floor harbour facing room. Otherwise, can't wait to visit again.

Hotel is nice and clean. The service was not up to standard. I booked a room with breakfast however that wasn’t honoured. I asked the reception and the lady informed me that free breakfast only applies to bookings of 3 nights or more. This was not stated on Expedia or communicated earlier, the listing still states breakfast is included with the room. Having stayed at 100s of hotels worldwide I was really disappointed and have raised this with the hotel and Expedia.

We stayed at the Athineon Hotel for 3 nights and I cannot recommend enough. Lovely big rooms, super friendly staff, close to the beach and the old town. I will definitely book again as we are hoping to return to Rhodes next year. Thank you so much for making our stay so special.

Good location. Large apartment, but the kichen was not stocked well if you wanted to cook anything. There were no cleaning supplies so you couldn't wash your dishes and housekeeping didn't wash them either. The breakfast was good and the young lady who worked in the breakfast area was very nice, so was the bartender. The front desk people were indifferent. The hotel is dated, and the carpet in the hallways were very worn, and appeared to have mold on them.

No sound proofing on front door and it wake everyone when you close it. Bathrooms in need of modernisation

The hotel is in a great location for who wants to visit Rhodes Old Town. Good area for walking and restaurants too. It's also relatively close to the airport, so it's convenient if your flight arrives late and you decide to continue your journey the next day. Rooms are large and convenient for a family that wants privacy. We didn't use the kitchen, but it seems to have what it is needed for quick meals. The breakfast is very simple, not really meeting the standard of a 4 star hotel or even a 3 star hotel. Although spacious and comfortable (quality bed and pillows, except for those who sleep in the living room), the rooms are quite outdated and require maintenance. The bathroom is small, especially the bathtub with shower and curtain. The pool area is very nice, but be aware that it can only be used during very restricted hours (10am-6pm). We were hoping to use it after the tours, but we didn't have time. You can park for free on the street. The best thing about the hotel was the pool bar. Extremely well made drinks, great quality and at a very attractive price (on average EUR 6).

Excellent staff. From Reception to Maintenance, Cleaning Ladies, Barmen, Restaurant Staff. Local beach is NOT a beach, it's a coast line. 20 minutes walk to Zephyros or 30 minutes walk to Eli Beach (or 7 euros cab).

Excellent hotel for one night stopover or longer.

Second time staying here. Very nice and professional staff. Good facilities, particularly pool. Very accommodating of early arrival and late departure. Close to all ferry ports and old town.

Less than a 5 minute walk to Rhodes Town where there's bars, restaurants, shops and night life. Right across from the port where you take the ferries to other parts of Greece/Turkey. 25 mins from airport. Clean big rooms and a really nice bar and pool. Woman at front desk was super helpful and pleasant.

Good with some limitations

Spacious apartment near the city walls. Near to the port but quite a walk to Elli beach. We liked staying here but there were some flaws. The best aspect was the large pool, although it wasn't heated, and the pool bar set up was good. However, food options were not available after the pool shut in the evening.The view from the balcony was of the pool and other apartments, some not fully built. Housekeeping was largely restricted to a change of towels and emptying the bins. A strange aspect was having nothing other than sheets, which is fine for summer but a bit cold in autumn. On the last day we were allowed to leave luggage in the foyer but there was no access to our room, despite the hotel being practically empty.

Lovely hotel within easy walking distance to the old town and harbour area. Lots of restaurants & bars to choose from. Only downside is that is next to a busy road so a bit traffic noise. Not really an issue though.

This hotel is ideally suited just outside of the Old Rhodes Town walls. It has seen better days, but is extremely clean. The staff were five-star in every way. Happy to help, and always with a smile. We found it very convenient walking into restaurants,And the other Rhodes town attractions. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic break

Just back from a 1 week last minute rearranged trip Due to COVID and what a find.Great location just outside the old town 15 min walk approx. All staff were very friendly and helpful and have Worked together and been at the hotel for many years. Room was a great size for two people. All areas of the hotel were spotless. Appropriate ppe was worn by all staff. The pool was beautiful and was an excellent size and exceptionally clean. Breakfast offered good value for money which we were happy with. Some people may expect more variety but are they prepared to pay more? The other guests were of mixed age group and some of them were repeat business over many years. As stated all staff were extremely friendly and helpful but we must give a special mention to Johnny the bar man. He really went out of his way to provide knowledgeable advice on local restaurants, local wine, beaches, bus trips and the history of the island. He also Served a fantastic cosmopolitan cocktail to my partner. When returning to Rhodes this will be our first choice. We Will recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Brilliant hotel. Bar and food value for money was good. Room bins emptied daily and towells were changed every couple of days. We will definately return to this hotel when visiting Rhodes again

Great location and spacious comfortable room.

Hotel is excellently located, near to the main tourist port and just outside the walls of the old town. The hotel was spotlessly clean. We were only there for 1 night, but I would definitely stay there again when next in Rhodes. The staff at the front desk were efficient and professional and there was good evidence throughout the hotel of covid 19 preventative measures. The hotel room was apartment style and was very spacious, which suited us well as we were a family of 2 adults and 1 teenager. For the price we paid, it represented excellent value for money. There is a nice swimming pool, which unfortunately we didn't have time to use.

fantastic for the money

I would say value for money was great. Lovely staff, nice atmosphere by pool with friendly open bar. Nice and light buffet breakfast included in my price deal. 5 minutes walk into entrance of Rhodes old town which is beautuful, 20 minutes stroll to lively Eli beach which is also beautuful at night. Rooms are actually a 1 bedroom apartment with small kitchenette, seperate lounge and large balcony. Great for a couple. Super king sized very comfortable bed. Chrisp white linen and towels with dressing gown included. Yes the decor is tired in places and could fo with a bit of moderrnising and the furnishings are basic but hey you will have an extra £500 to enjoy your holiday compared to a modern modern hotel. Its a no brainer. If you want 5 star pay for it as this isnt but you always get what you pay for. One tip is prices vary on booking sites you must check all of them before booking. My deal was fantastic 👍👍👍

The property was in a great location for the old city and a walk to the new town. Staff were very helpful especially Mika, John and Kostas. I would recommend this hotel and would book again when returning to Rhodes

We loved our room looking out over the harbour. A new view every day and the ships coming and going. It is a great location by the old town but not on the middle of the big tourist areas. The staff were friendly. Excellent value.

Nice hotel in convenient Old Town location

Stayed for 4 nights, two adults and two children. My wife and I really liked this hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the location was good for exploring the old town. Kids loved the pool. Yes, if you’re really fussy the rooms may be slightly dated, but the rest of the hotel makes up for it. I would stay there again if visiting Rhodes in the future.

The hotel is in a great location so close to the Old Town but the property is in need of renovation. It’s worn down. The bathroom was so uncomfortable and we kept having leaking issues from the faucet. It’s a hotel close to a beach and no way for you to wash your own clothes or nearby services to do yourself así found inconvenient. The staff is nice, front desk very nice and professional but the facility itself is a older hotel. However if your looking for convenience to be close to old town and hotel room amenities and look doesn’t need to be updated then go for it.

Bar tender at late night check in was fantastic. In the AM, they were very eager for us to get out of room so it could be cleaned. We would have liked a later check out given very late arrival. Overall a nice experience.

We enjoyed a lovely two week break here

Spacious room, comfortable large bed, nice pool with wooden decking, very friendly bar staff Costa, Jonny and Panos. Cosy hotel and convenient getting from room to pool. Good location very short walk to old town restaurants and Spar not far. Only negatives odd things like american coffee and things in shop a little expensive and bar snack menu could do with more variety.

Good location close to Old Town

Good sized apartment with balcony although it really could do with a bit of a refurbishment. Cooking utensils were ok but only two hotplates makes any cooking limited. There was a kettle, coffee machine and fridge. A microwave would be a great addition! Pool is good although again the sun beds need updating. The bar area is good and the evening bar tender is fabulous. Breakfast was ok but extremely repetitive. Tinned peaches every single day so some variety here would be a big improvement. Location is great close to the harbour and Old Town with its numerous bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. Easily walkable in ten minutes. We hired a car for 3 days and bikes for 1 day and thought we saw all of the main island attractions as a result.

Great location for Rhodes city.

Beside the Medieval City and beside the harbour, this is a great family orientated hotel for Rhodes City.

Fantastic hotel

The Athineon was exactly as it appeared on the website. Location was fantastic. Very quiet at night but a short walk into the old town which was stunning. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to come back to Rhodes and this hotel. Only negative comments I would make are the lack of equipment in the kitchen and the fact that the WiFi was unreliable. Otherwise this hotel was well above average.

Wonderful people everywhere: reception, restaurant, mini market, room maintenance staff... very happy BUT PLEASE... try to make your wifi better... very slow, and very spotty

Great location for the Old Town

Great accommodation it was basic but clean and functional. Loved the pool and the staff where really friendly.

Spacious apartment but air conditioning not working. On fifth floor. elevator only goes up to 4th- had to carry suitcases up and down the stairs ourselves

Restaurant not as good as previous visits

I don’t normally give reviews on anything but this hotel was absolutely horrible. I recommend anyone that is looking to visit this area to stay at any other hotel. Everything about this hotel was horrible besides the location to old town roads and Newtown Road which is walking distance.

Great hotel, very close to Old Town

Great sea views over the harbour. Staff were very helpful around the pool area and offered good food and drink options. Only a 5 minute walk to the heart of Rhodes Old Town and 10 minutes to the New town. Rooms are big with living area, kitchen and large bedroom with sea view balcony. Would highly recommend this hotel!

This is great hotel

Great hotel. The staff is extremely hospitable. Johnny behind the bar treats you like family. Can't say enough about him! He was our go to vacation planner. It was a treat to spend time and talk to him the evenings! And Kosta in the morning was very kind. Always made sure we had a great start in the mornings. The location of the hotel is perfect. You are right outside the old town - just a two minute walk. It's near the beaches in Rhodes Town, the ferry boats, and a ten minute drive from Faliraki. There is always parking on the street. I would definitely stay here again!

Good location, lovely hotel.

This hotel is in an ideal location for exploring the old town of Rhodes, less than 5 minutes walk from the one of the gates. The staff were very friendly and would organise trips and taxis for you if you needed them to. The two bedroom apartment we had was very large and would potentially sleep 5, thought the kitchen facilities were sadly lacking,only 3 forks, 4 knives, 4 teaspoons, 5 soup spoons and a bread knife. There was no kettle or toaster and we had to boil water in a pan to make a cup of tea or coffee. However, that is the only downside to the apartment, it was spotlessly clean and the towels were changed daily. Fruit and wine was left for us when we checked in which was a welcoming touch. The pool area could do with a bit of TLC, some of the sun beds were rickety to say the least, the back rests having broken on some and some which were a bit lop sided! The breakfast was nothing special, certainly not worth 10 euros but food and drink from the pool bar was good, service was excellent. The pool got a bit busy with children and inflatables but as it was school holiday time when we were there that was to be expected. There is a TV in the lounge area and also a pool table, a table tennis table just outside the lounge was good. The sauna wasn't working when we were there but it was so hot I don't think we would have used it! Our flight home wasn't until the evening and we were able to use our room towels to shower by the pool before we left.

Great location, breakfast, staff and facilities

Athineon Hotel is exceptional. You could use the hotel as a holiday destination and never leave during your stay. The pool and surrounds are adequate and tranquil. hotel food is good and inexpensive, rooms have kitchenettes with a grocery store onsite, there is a basic gym and games area. Outside the hotel its a nice walk to the old town of Rhodes. An adventure into an extensive history lesson and amazing spectacles. The new town offers modern shops, the port offers day trips (Lindos is recommend ) and the local beaches are fantastic. The staff are exceptionally friends and helpfull. Any problem is dealt with immediately with a smile. This hotel cannot be faulted.

It was clean and the bed was very comfy. The old town was only a minutes walk away and there was a big supermarket 5 minutes walk from the hotel

Ideal hotel for access to Rhodes Old Town

All the staff at the hotel were very welcoming and helpful from the beginning to the end of our 2 week holiday. The hotel is located within 5 minutes walk of Rhodes Old Town, and it's shops and restaurants. There are also other good restaurants closer the the hotel, and a very good restaurant at the hotel. There is a large supermarket 5 minutes walk from the hotel. So the hotel is ideal for a holiday at Rhodes Old Town.

Excellent position, good views, nice hotel

Hotel location good for getting to Old Town bus station, ferry, sights, beaches and shops. Hotel clean comfortable, staff polite and helpful. Pool is clean with nice bar and sun bathing area. We had an apartment with spacious bedroom and sitting room with wide balcony. Apartments on coast side have an amazing view of the port, the view over the old town and the sea. Only criticism I need a gluten and dairy free diet and find it safer to prepare my own food but kitchen has only minimal equipment, two ring electric cooker, no oven, microwave or toaster, no chopping board or anything to prepare vegetables or salad. I also found it very difficult to buy free from food anywhere within walking distance. Small supermarket on docks sold a few basic but expensive items. Suggest you take what you can with you.

Location, location and location!

The location was amazing. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room size was very large and we enjoyed the balconies off the bedrooms. I would absolutely recommend this hotel. Especially if you are coming from Marmaris to Rhodes for a night or two.

Nice hotel just south of old city.

This hotel is satisfactory in most every way with the exception that it is located on the south side of the old city of Rhodes. The immediate surroundings are in a part of town that is transitioning into commercial and residential. Also the nature of the commercial activities include numerous strip clubs.

Clean spacious hotel great for families. Great location very close to old town as well as new. Close to port, everything walking distance. Pool was good but got very busy at times and hard to find a chair. Mini market next door which was convenient.

Great family hotel

Very close to d town 5 min walk, very close to port, quiet allowing you to sleep at night. Modern facilities with excellent pool and bar facilities. It's a full service hotel with very friendly staff. Highly recommend. Also has s billiard table, table tennis table and sauna available at a surcharge (not expensive). I want to also acknowledge Gianni the bar man in the afternoon. Excellent service, very friendly and accomodating. All the staff were great but Gianni was exceptional. I would definitely recommend and will go back to this hotel. The only recommendation is they need a portable clothes line to dry clothes. Cheers.

Great Location.

Great hotel. Excellent service. The rooms were large and modern and offered a wonderful view of the harbor. Perfect location if you are arriving from Marmaris by ferry. Walking distance to the pier and to old town. The neighborhood was a little dirty and there were a few refugees camping across the street in the park. Other than that we had a great time. The pool was large and they even stayed open late for my son.

Nice hotel close to old town

Nice hotel only 2 minutes walk from the old town and overlooking the harbour with great views of cruise ships stopping for the day and opposite small park, very friendly helpful staff,lovely pool,small supermarket for essentials and plenty of free parking outside.

Rhodes Town family holiday

The hotel was a little big bigger than what we are used to for Greek holidays but realised that with a town location something had to give. Staff were excellent and after a long overnight flight via Athens our room was ready early, which was a major plus point. We took the "two bed" to mean two bedrooms but in fact my daughter had a single sofa bed in the lounge area but still enough space away from "the parents". View of the ferry port and sea was a bonus if you neglect the petrol station in the foreground (great sunset over the town). Little noise despite a busy road and the rooms are reasonably sound-proofed. The pool was a little busy and a definite lack of parasols - only two. However this did ensure we got out more although usually our summer holiday is relaxing by the pool and this was difficult at times as it was busy but it all goes with the territory of a bigger hotel. The old town is extremely close and it is a good base for exploring. From the airport you would need a taxi or shared transport as the local bus station would be a bit of a walk.

Great location

We loved this little gem of a hotel. The location makes it a short walk to Rhodes Old Town and Mandraki Harbor. The beds were comfortable and clean, and the pool was quite nice. There is also a connecting convenience store that made it easy to stock up on travel snacks. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended for a night or two!

Rhodes

This hotel was very nice. The rooms were good size, with balcony and nice views. The staff was helpful with everything we needed. They don't supply pool towels and don't want you to use the room towels at pool. I found that very weird as everywhere I have stayed world wide towels are supplied at pool. We enjoyed the location next to the old city.

Great value for money

We stayed for 10 days in June 15 and were very pleased with the hotel and location. It's about 5 minutes walk to the old town with its many restaurants and shops. The staff at the hotel were excellent, very professional and courtious. The apartment was spacious and had everything we needed. Breakfast included cerials, juices, fried bacon, sausages and eggs as well as the usual bread, cakes, cold meats, cheeses and fruit. We ate at the hotel restaurant too and this was reasonably priced and had a good choice. Overall, it was excellent value for money and we would recommend it highly.

Atheneion .. the place to stay in Rhodes, Greece

I selected the hotel on the Expedia system .we were nt disappointed .. marvelous location, We arrived from Marmaris, Turkey by Yesil Catamaran and we could easily walk to the hotel from the customs/arrival area. I travel 6 months/ yr on business ... so hotel stay should be a bus man's holiday .. but not this hotel..we had the family in two 2 bdrm suites .... marvelous view of the harbor, excellent hotel service .. we would stay there again !

A good Stay

My husband and I only stayed for one night, we were well looked after. A lovely clean light hotel. The room was excellent and comfortable. We had supper in the hotel and it was so good and the head waiter was a delight evening the chef came and asked how we had enjoyed our meal, so that will tell you how good it was. The following morning the receptionist ordered us a taxi to take us to the docks to continue our journey. If we need to stay overnight in Rhodes again, this hotel will be our first choice.

Nice hotel, good position near to rhodes old town,

Staff at hotel helpful and pleasant. A few little things not good....there was fruit left in the room for us which we did not eat as it looked somewhat old and unappealing. One orange went mouldy and it took four days for the cleaning staff to remove the fruit! Also the gratis wine miniatures must have been years old, as were some of the Liptons tea bags which you could tell from the packaging. Breakfast was ordinary, some parts good others poor. There was little fresh fruit, which for a place like rhodes seemed extremely penny pinching, and the Orange juice from a dispenser was not what you'd expect from a four star hotel. The bacon was tired, as in most European hotels so not a surprise, though the eggs were ok. Coffee was good, and plenty of choice with tea. Surely, it is possible to have marmalade for toast at breakfast, not jams etc.

Great hotel. Close to the old town.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It had a great location - less than five minutes walk into the old town and to a small beach. Our room was at the front and on the fourth floor. We had an amazing view of the sea and the old town. The apartment had two good sized rooms. One of these was a bedroom which could have a double bed or two twin beds. The other room was a sitting room which had two sofas which converted into two single comfortable beds. There was also a decent sized kitchen area with sink, fridge and cooking rings. (No oven). It was equipped with crockery, cutlery and pans. The bathroom was nice and there was a lovely balcony. The staff were friendly, welcoming and always helpful! I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Rhodes!!

Excellent value, perfect location!

Wonderful hotel with very helpful staff... especially Mika and Artemis at the front desk who went out of their way to help is arrange tours and call ahead to arrange our next hotel and pick up in Santorini. Costas at the bar was helpful every day and packed us a picnic for our 8-hour ferry ride to Santorini. Quiet location a few minutes from old town, nice and close to ferry docks for trips to Turkey and other islands. Hotel is exactly as it appears in internet photos. Will definitely return and recommend to friends.

We very much enjoyed our stay and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to the old town and an enjoyable walk along the board walk to the restaurants and cafés.

Nice, but closer to 3 stars than 5

Nice hotel 10 minutes from the entrance to the Old City, but definitely not 5 stars. The rooms are pretty barren with relatively uncomfortable (but not terrible) beds and seats. The shower was tiny and didn't work that well. The walls and carpets in the hallways felt like a 70's hotel - red shag and faded yellow paint. The room was nice, and the views amazing, but it was closer to 3 than 5 stars. The pool was nice, but they don't have extra towels -- you had to bring one from your room; there wasn't much at all in terms of service. No restaurants or bars nearby unless you walk into the Old City (which you should, after all, since you're choosing this location), but the hotel bar was decently priced. WiFi worked well throughout.

Hotel is near the Old Town - probably only 150m from the nearest gate. We absolutely loved the old town and ended up eating there every evening. Make sure you explore the side streets and get away from the main squares for some lovely tavernas and some lively outdoor bars. If you want something livelier you might want to stay in the new town, on the other side of the old town, or in Falaraki. We had plans to head to Falaraki or the new town for some nights out but felt far too relaxed and content with the old town to leave! The hotel is lovely and clean, the rooms are very spacious and it's nice to have that much room (living room with bed in it, separate kitchen, separate bedroom and bathroom, with large balcony). The pool area was also great and there were plenty of beds - no need to reserve any. Make sure you spend at least one day exploring the old town - it's wonderful. We also enjoyed day trips to lindos, to ancient kolimbia, into the centre of the island, and on a boat trip. Rhodes is lovely and I will definitely return! Hotel was great value for money and well worth staying there.

Not a five star. Only a three. BUT ....Perfect location , really great staff (all of them) and clean functional rooms. Only complaint would be breakfast. Still, I'd go back!

Wonderful and very welcoming hotel on the edge of the Rhodos old town, near the beach boulevard and on the walking distance of main shopping area. Hotel is clean and quiet, rooms are spacious, breakfast is very good as are all the other products delicious from their kitchen, the pool and bar area is such a nice and relaxing chill zone, not to mention the stuff is absolutely fabulous, special greetings to D&D! We really enjoyed our stay! Ps: always plenty of empty sunbeds at the pool and no rush anywhere at the hotel! Beautiful!
