Easy access

The bed was comfortable with lots of comfortable pillows available. Searched everywhere for the spa switch when I found it and turned it on it shot out dead skin and dirt that floated on top of the water. It was dirty the bathroom was filthy the ranch slider had fingerprints and fat residue all over it. The heat pump didn’t work and room got pretty cold. Way overpriced for what we got but we did lastminute order it and are grateful we had accomodation.

Staff were friendly, however room was in serious need of an upgrade, smelt like smoke and someone and covered the smoke detectors with toilet paper. Room was clean

The place has seen better days. The property is dated and our room was not clean. The staff were ok especially when we discovered that the odour in our bath room came from dried vomit next to the toilet that was not cleaned properly. It’s over priced for the state of the accommodation. Their are many cheaper and better quality options in Rotorua that you should spend your money on. The place needs to be closed and upgraded ASAP.

The king size bed was comfortable. We were disappointed in the condition of the room...power points with masking tape, a ripped lampside with a leaning/crooked lamp, a mug with a coffee stain in the bottom.

It is a great hotel for an overnight sleep that is cheap better than half of the others that charge double the price

That theres a lift so didn't have to climb stairs

This is a hotel that is very close to town very close to the attractions it is an ok hotel to stay at no problems and it is also great for the price that is paid for the room

Apollo Hotel is a very good property and I would stay there again. However the exterior of the building needs some attention - bird drippings everywhere on the driveway canopy and huge weds and grass growing out of the guttering. Fortunately the inside is really clean. I had a king split bed and it was very uncomfortable. The join in the mattresses created a significant ridge in the bed. There was no overlay which would have been an easy fix. Also the pillows were very hard. Apart from that the room was spacious, the bathroom was great and the extra kitchen items such as the toaster, crockery and cutlery were greatly appreciated bearing in mind the hotel doesn’t offer breakfast.

My room was very clean, modern and looked to be newly renovated. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Average stay, not happy with the WIFI, only worked for 1 out of 3 nights we stayed there and it also said they had netflix and that didnt work either. Had to buy our own cleaning products because bathroom stinked of piss. Not going to recommend to others.

They advertise with smart TV and Netflix, but Netflix didn't work. The staff confirmed this at checkout, without apology. Also, the baby crying all night in the room next door didn't make this a great stay...

This was a nice simple accomodation for a group of us , they catered to our needs and also allowed our friend group to have rooms next to each other . The receptionists were great and kind . Would recommend an upgrade of the rooms in regards to cleanliness and also having a hairdryer or at least asking to request a hairdryer . Also the spa area and outdoor area should be more appealing to the eye more lights would be great for the night . Overall it was a good accomodation to stay at .

One of the bedside lamps had no bulb and a power socket had a dodgy switch. I only stayed one night but it was comfortable and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

It was so much better than we expected. And the gentlemen running it were so kind and friendly. A very nice place to stay, especially given the reasonable pricing! We highly recommend it :)

I'd stay somewhere else

The hotel is in need of an upgrade. The sliding door was open, the windows shook, the beds rather stiff, no A/C so rather humid, the bathroom was scratched and chipped and a shelf in the shower was unstable. I overestimated the quality of the room when booking and checked out within ten minutes of checking in. The receptionists offered upgrades but the quality of rooms all looked the same. Plus the entire hotel was empty. They claimed they were all booked (yet still offering upgrades?) but I've never been somewhere so empty, even in remote places there's always SOMEONE or another car in the parking lot. It seemed sketchy.

Large room with plenty of parking. There is a shared laundry which is great when you have lots of clothes that could do with a wash on a long holiday. The elevator was a bit loud and was being used late at night and in the early morning. Overall a great place to stay.

When we arrived, we didnt find the guy at reception friendly. The photos on wotif was glammed up compared to what we actually got. Pool was cold, thought it might be heated. Our bath drainage was bad, having a shower it filled up in the tub. No kitchen lid to wash the dishes. Fluff from the blankets went all over the carpet & housekeeping ignored it, so didnt vacuum it. Very disappointing.

Cups and ciffee station was not ckean. Still dirty.

it was close to the city centre and had easy free parking and location was very nice and quiet, spa and sauna were great and room and service was wonderful

The service really great but the room needed work which let the overall experience down a little or we would have rated higher.

Easy parking, value for money, But , the shower pressure was low, popular TV channels very poor reception (Sports and Movies), We were put amongst a very noisy group of Asian tourists. Woken up at 5.30am by yelling tourists in Room 207. It was not logical to put a tour group with independent travellers. Just before 7.00am, the rest came rushing through the corridor with their luggage, talking loud to each other. No consideration to others whatsoever.

We really enjoyed our stay. The parking was easy and the room spacious and clean. Lovely shower too! We got a great price compared to similar hotels close by. The room got a little colder at night and it would have been great to have the heat pump on before we arrived and there wasn't enough lighting in the room. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay.

Property in need of a face lift. Clean and tidy. Staff friendly

The property was a little run down - with cracked tiles outside. Our room was clean but the toilet needed some attention with not being cleaned up to standard. The shower head was broken - when we brought this to the Manager's attention, and ask it we had broken it, we were not impressed. Very nice place to stay -would recommend it to other people

2 of the chairs for the dinning table where broken. But the TV had Netflix so that was pretty good

Photos over sell it. Beds were clean just not much else. Smells like old school motel from the 80’s. Staff are nice but needs some love and a good clean.

Absolutely enjoyed our stay at Apollo Hotel Rotorua. Staff very accommodating and most helpful at checkin, advising re local area, and ensuring our comfort. Cannot fault the motel one iota. Very clean, spacious and secure.

Very large 460 sf modern room. Recently renovated. Kitchen had utensils Pots, plates etc. this is not a full service hotel but self service apartments. No public areas like lobby or dining. Quiet pleasant location with good access to major roads and center of Rotorua which is about 1 mile away.

Old mattress and pillow and very dirty room specially around the bed area.

There was nothing outstanding about the property. The cleaning was not done properly, there were stains on the walls and floors. The basin and shower were cleaned superficially and the bed not made properly (the fitted sheet was not stretched). We had connections rooms, but when we arrived we could not open the connecting door and

The property is located on a busy, noisy street. The carpet is ratty and there is no air conditioning.

Use less Place. When i ask water for my kids manager told me to take water from toilet tap. I never recommend for any one

Nice place to stay and it’s near to city center...

I like that its close to central but rooms and bathroom are not clean and can see some moulds. Pool is too cold, not heated and not clean. So is for the jacuzzi pool is not clean and can see residue floating. Receptionist were nice but place seemed undermanned and looks like the receptionist are cleaning the room too

If a person is desperate then you can book this place. Service was great by Sumit. Room decor is out dated. Bed sheet has a hole in it. Stains on the carpet. No tissue box. Room didn’t have a fresh smell.

Budget rate but also budget quality hotel. You get what you pay for.

we had 3 rooms for 1 night. Very handy to Waka Living Mauri Village which is worth a visit.

Large Clean room

Based at Whakarewarewa. It was perfect for us. Easy to get to Everything we needed. Room was large very clean and had all the utensils and pots so we could have breakfast in the morning. The staff were friendly. Only down side was the couch was not that comfy, Overall though we were very happy and would stay again

Excellent and helpful staff. Rooms were noisy and although appeared clean on closer inspection had tea or coffee splashes on wall that hadnt been cleaned. Spa pools were clean.

Looked pretty clean initially but came across a few not so great things. Furniture needs replacing - chunks missing off tables, bedside drawers, etc. plasterer literally outside my door first thing in the morning making a racket. TV was a nightmare to operate. Friendly reception staff. Offered to take my bags to the room.

The pillow cases were dirty, the beds were hard, with no blankets and the heating was noisy with no thermostat or way to control room temperature.

There was dirt and lost objects under the beds. Bathroom sink had dirt stains and balcony floor did lack cleaning.

Good on a budget

If the room was given a decent spring clean it would be a great room. The outside of the white plastic bin was filthy. Some walls and parts of the bathroom could do with a proper clean. It wasn't disgusting or un-livible but I would get a better cleaner in (who has an eye for detail) and hire some industrial cleaners to come in and give the whole place a once over. If the room was cleaned properly I would have given this place high rating.

The room was spacious. Bathroom and toilets were good. The pool was under maintenance and we were not informed of that. Overall it was a good experience

Good parking. Quiet location.

Connecting rooms meant comfort for all. Very limited bench space for breakfast preparation. Pulled out bed side table to access plugs - very dirty dusty behind easily accessible and light bedside table.

Stayed one night, Hotel was warm and beds comfortable but shower was grubby and furniture pretty worn

Our room backed onto the lift which was very noisey and the heating system was very noisey also sounded like a dripping toilet the whole nite. Prehaps a heat pump would be better. Plus actually booked a king bed and got a queen.

Seemed it was a very tired looking property. Needed a big spruce up. Very accessible but more attention to room care and cleanliness would make a difference

Awesome location, poor rooms

Being close to the forest is awesome but you’ll sacrifice comfort and quality to do so. Rooms are very small and beds were awfully uncomfortable alongside the pillows. If you just need a cheap quick place to stay, this might work but don’t expect a whole lot.

Great place we would definitely stay again, and would recommend its not close to all the other hotels plenty of parking and easy to get to places from the hotel

Disappointing stay

We were disappointed for what we got for our money, the bed was small, the spa was very small and not accommodating for two people, the private in-room spa was the reason we booked this place and used it once for a very short time.

Average condition. Haven't got room heater. Bit cold in winter. Ok for my budget.

Apollo in Rotorua

We had a great time in Rotorua! The hotel does need a little work done; our toilet leaked, but it had a helpful staff and laundry available.

Last minute booking

Was expecting much more for 4*+ . Really run down old building and room , needs updating And things fixing. Pool and spa unclean so couldn't use. Comfortable for our stay but wouldn't return unfortunately. Have stayed in same rated motels in the area and had a far more pleasant experience. Definitely overpriced. Great location however and rooms overlook the pool area. Pleasant staff.

Handy location for seeing sights of Rotorua

My experience at Apollo

We enjoyed staying at Apollo. The area is a bit lower quality overall but with everything in close proximity, compared especially to Auckland, it is not a problem. The host was very pleasant and helpful. The beds were comfortable. The room had an excellent kitchen. Very few have hotplates these days. It was a nice surprise. The lounge room was conveniently laid out for watching the TV but also with the dining table in the middle of the lounge it was very pleasant to enjoy breakfast together. So many hotels/motels have the table up against a wall which is often quite cramped. The bathroom has some inconveniences. The door opens into the middle of the room but opens back against the door which helps. There is something happening to the vanity as it is sloping down. Maybe someone sat on it. It looks disconcerting. The pressure in the shower is very low but did the job and there was plenty of hot water. The rooms have jetted tubs which echo around the building into the night. It did not stop me sleeping but I was aware of it because it was around midnight and I could still hear it. There is a DVD player in the room. I could not figure out how to use it. Maybe there were instructions in the room book but I gave up. Some simple instructions by the DVD player would be helpful. It is a good place to stay if you want a comfortable mid-priced hotel. There is no restaurant on site but with the cooking facilities it evens out the benefits. I would stay there again.

great place to stay .. even my dad was impressed ,which was grand,and value for ya money just wouldve been good if we stayed a bit longer

Hotel shows a lot of wear and tear without upkeep.

Mold in grout in shower, paint peeling off ceiling where moisture appears to be the reason, stained carpet, air conditioner doesn't work, pool area not clean and pool was stained and missing tile. Overall huge disappointment in comparison to our many other hotel experiences in New Zealand.

Location

Great location, close to the venues we were attending. Within easy walking distance of shops, service station etc. Only one disappointment with the room: on the last night saw a mouse in our room. I advised reception when we checked out the next morning. Other than that, the room and the hotel were great.

Fair hotel, somewhat tired and needs updating. Cleanliness was only fair, grubby walls and curtains. Noisy neighbours in hotel, but all settled down by 11pm. Good locale to the Whakarewarewa cultural village, 2 min walk.

Pretty run down

Staff were very friendly and helpfull. Whilst it is well located, the place is pretty run down. Our bedroom smelt of smokeand the furnishings could do with and upgrade.

Comfortable hotel with pool

Not a 24hour serviced hotel. Rather dirty. Could use a really good clean. Window in our room wouldn’t shut. Bed comfortable and room was great with everything we needed. Free car parking.

Pleasant but expensive

It is in a prime location, the facilities look a bit withered. There was a dent in one of the walls, looked like somebody had punched it. TV was tiny. Staff were a bit boring and plain, not very lively.
