Warm welcome from Altamont Lodge, rooms spotless and plenty of facilities available eg parking, large kitchen and washing machines. Room tip: if possible, avoid room 1, its a bit close to the double doors and bathroom making it a bit noisy but that depends on the other guests! E

We traveled NZ for a month, and this was hands down the nicest 'shared common space' place we stayed. well equipped, clean, enough space and well managed. wouldn't look for anywhere else if we're ever back in Wanaka

Definite repeater

This is our second time staying at Altamont it will be our choice in the future as well.

I couldn't fault this place. Spotlessly clean and uncluttered. Even when the lodge was full it never felt crowded because there is plenty of space in common areas, while still feeling cosy. Kitchen was large and functional. Never had to wait for bathrooms or shower. My room was upstairs where there is only 2 rooms, as opposed to off the main hallway where the majority of rooms are, so I can't comment on noise overnight from neighbouring rooms. The managers here are friendly and do a fantastic job of maintaining the lodge and grounds to a high standard.

Blown away by how clean and organized this place is! Loved our stay, the staff is amazing, the kitchen is fully stocked with necessities and amenities, although shared, are super clean and comfortable.

Very beautiful lodge and very clean! Good for a short stay! But the wall of the room is very thin, and we had an annoying neighbor we’re talking until the midnight, so didn’t get a good sleep at that night.

Exceptionally clean and quiet accommodation with access to garden and well-equipped kitchen. Felt safe and home-y. Would definitely stay again.

We had a fabulous stay at Altamont - very friendly staff and clean facilities and great value for money. Shared kitchen was spacious, well-appointed, clean and organized and shared lounge was very welcoming. Thank you!! I’d definitely stay again!!

This has to be the best “hostel” we have ever encountered. All areas were spotless. Large open eating and lounge areas. The kitchen was stocked with all dishes cookware and cutlery you could need. Separate refrigerator shelves for each room. Bathrooms with individual stalls. Friendly, welcoming staff. It was all good and well worth the price.

Property was clean and quiet with a lovely large kitchen and comfortable, quiet lounge room. Very warm and welcoming setup. A good 15-20min walk from the centre of town if you dont have a car.

Furniture in the common room needs some cleaning. Bad smell and felt dirty. Otherwise a very well stocked kitchen and satisfactory accommodation

clean and tidy we stayed 1 night only there were no vacancies as fully booked but still very quiet so slept well.. Kitchen area and fridge all marked out so everyone knew where their own drinks/food was kept.

This place has a very homely feel and is very clean. The owner is a gentleman. Excellent value. If I ever visit Wanaka again then Altamont Lodge will get my business.

Nice affordable place to stay in Wanaka. Place was clean, basic room, with onsite laundry in the building. Huge shared kitchen and dining area, had everything we needed to save money instead of going out to eat. Great location close to Lake Wanaka and hiking trails. Great place to go biking around, hiking, and trout / salmon fishing on the lake.

Stay for two nights

The room, while simple, is very comfortable. Lynn and Jeff are very gracious hosts. A bit far from town, but highly recommend to any one travelling through Wanaka.

Great little budget-friendly place in Wanaka! Was so good I had to go back the following week. Quaint little lodge with excellent facilities & super well-organized, kitchen is particularly well catered, and the staff are lovely. Couple minutes up the road from town, but well within walking distance still (they even have bikes you can borrow), and conveniently located on the road out to Mt Aspiring National Park - very close to some local attractions such as Roy's Peak, Wildwire Wanaka, Diamond Lakes etc. Would absolutely recommend and will probably be my place to stay each time I'm in Wanaka now!

A Family Atmosphere.

I was very impressed with the Lodge, very clean and tidy, well set up and managed to high standards, very spacious shared facilities, fantastic kitchen to cater for everyone, friendly fellow guests and hosts. Very comfortable private rooms and quiet location. Handy walking distance to township and lake. Affordable Tariff.

Excellent small lodge with good amenities. Large communal kitchen area fully equipped. Large lounge, and NO TV (which we loved). Close enough to town to walk in 10-15 minutes. Hot tub available for use, which was nice after long days of walking. Rooms were clean, but a little small. Communal shower/toilet area was clean, but also small with only two showers and two toilets, however there was never a wait. Staff was wonderful and very friendly. Would definitely stay again.

The kitchen amenities were great and very well laid out. They had everything we needed to cook for ourselves.

Clean friendly , simply wonderful place.

We absolutely loved this place. We hardly ever stay in lodges as we like our comfort but thought we would try but if ‘on The budget’ stay. We were so wonderfully surprised by this place! Clean, clean, clean! Comfortable, warm, beautiful staff! Just perfect. We only stayed one night and moved on to Franz Joseph Glacier. Our trip was meant to continue from there up to Arthur pass but decided to go back to Wanaka and booked 2 more nights at this lodge. We really really love this place. 5 STARS from us !

Nice hotel and good location

Nice facility, Clean and Space kitchen

This doesn't seem like good value given the walking distance to town and the shared toilets and showers. There's also no way to have the room warm when you get up in the morning due to a timer switch. It's not a bad place to stay but there are better places.

Warm comfortable room. We didn't meet the staff but self-check-in was smooth. The bathroom was quite cold, but other than that everything was fine.

Wonderful budget hotel in Wanaka

I loved my stay at Altamont Lodge. The rooms are simple and small, with shared bathroom and showers, but everything is spectacularly clean and it's all very comfortable. The location is very close to Wanaka center and there is easy access to the beautiful pathway around the lake. The shared kitchen facilities are enormous, well organized, excellently equipped and kept sparkling clean. There are marked shelves in the fridge and pantry for each room. The owners are pleasant and helpful. No noise problems at all. I only wish I could have spent more time here. The wifi was not great, but not terrible, either. You do have to be alert to the cleaning closures for the kitchen and bathrooms at 10 AM.

Staff were very welcoming and friendly. You can walk to the town and lake ( about 15-20 minutes) . There was a laundry. The shared kitchen was clean and well organised with all cupboards clearly labelled and fridge and food cupboard space for each room . There was even a dishwasher. Very quiet at night

Super large clean communal kitchen and lounge. Bedroom was roomy for the two of us but sound insulation between rooms was poor.

Fantastic stay

We had a fantastic time at the Altamont in Wanaka. The common kitchen was large , clean and well organized. The common areas were both inside and out were comfortable, clean and welcoming. The wifi was great and the common bathrooms were well maintained and clean. The host was very friendly and helpful.

Ok for short stay

Short drive to town centre, nice resort by the lake. Accomodation ok. Room overlooked car park. Shared toilet facilities for men only had 2 showers.

Short walk to town

The staff at the lodge were amazing, very helpful and friendly. All the little things were taken care of for us right down to lighting the fire to keep the lodge warm and even provided a ride to the bus stop in the morning to help me on my way.

Good budget friendly accommodation

We stayed here for 2 nights recently. The beds are comfy and the facilities are clean. Helen, the manager of the place is lovely and will assist in any way she can. The only drawbacks were the locks on the doors were quite old and noisy and the door was not very soundproof which was a bit annoying early in the morning - but most guests were considerate and tried to be as quiet as possible. Also the wifi connection was not good unfortunately. Everything else was great, and for the price you can't complain! I would come back :)

We really enjoyed our stay at the Altamont Lodge. It was clean, close to everything and has great facilities. The rooms are modest in size, but if you only sleep there like we were, than this place should be a great choice.

Good choice in Wanaka

Altamont Lodge is located on the quieter side of Wanaka. The rooms are small but sufficient, and there are a nice kitchen and lounge to share.

Too nice of the host,she can give me very good suggestion where to visit. The kitchen is well equipment and the bathroom is clean enough, it is worth of price , really enjoy the stay.

Ideal Place to stay

The lodge is has a wonderful garden and a beautiful kitchen. The rooms have wood panels that really remember a chalet. Everything is clean and there are signs marking that after 9:00PM the guests have to be quit. But the reality is that in my stay here the guests also took shower after 0:00 AM and some of them spoke with loud voices in asiatic languages in the corridor and in their rooms till 2:00AM. For me not the best choice for sleeping and stand up early.

Very clean, well presented and comfortable. Kitchen facilities were spotless and well equipped, lodge is easy to get to and in a handy location.

Great facility

This is a small (12 room, I think) lodge with an excellent, well equipped kitchen, eating area and common area/lounge. We had a great stay. Only issues is that they close the kitchen and bathrooms/showers from 10-11 everyday for cleaning. Not a problem for us because we were up and eager to head out for activities but can be problematic if you’re looking for a more leisurely start to your morning.

Good value , good location

The place was very clean and well organised . It was a great location . The hosts were very friendly and helpful . Only problem was the room was very hot but should not complain as weather was fab

The kitchen was large and well stocked. I don’t think there was enough toilets for the number of guests. Also we couldn’t close the door to our room without locking it with the key from the inside, we found this a bit of an inconvience and a safety hazard.

Great value!

Clean and comfortable! Location is a good 20-30 minutes from the shops and restaurants, but it's not a bad walk. Good value here, I would stay again.

A welcome exceptional experience.

Our hosts Helen and Jim were very friendly, and informative. The communal kitchen facilities were exceptional, well organised and clean. Laundry was a godsend. Our bedroom was very comfortable. We enjoyed coffee in the garden and relaxed with our hosts in the lounge as they decorated the xmas tree. Great stay.

Lovely place

Excellent location, quite and not touristy at all. I was really well rested there, shared bathroom is very clean, kitchen is spacious with everything that you need. It is about 30 mins walk to town, on the way to town you can see the famous Wanaka Tree, Lake Wanaka. There is a Rippon Vineyard which is also walking distance from the property. I enjoyed to wake up in early morning, have a morning walk on the Wanaka Mt-Aspring Road, that was very refreshing.

A premium experience

The stay was very comfortable. The staff was very helpful. The accommodation is very clean, spacious and of course well equipped with everything ay traveler can wish.

Local stay

Good local place just minutes away from the city centre and walks. On a whole good but may change depending on who stays.

ideal for ski holiday

Only issue can be noisy at night poor sound insulation, otherwise recommended. Clean and tidy with good facilities.

Small size studio, but rates are higher

We booked studio for 4 persons in family. The size of studio is very small. And in addition to that the toilet and bathroom was outside. It's very uncomfortable to go out in common bathrooms. , particularly in winter. All other things are excellent. Common kitchen is huge. Lobby and hall are good.

Lovely place

Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent facilities, everything beautifully clean. Nice quiet location 20 mins walk from the centre of Wanaka. I went for a swim in the lake 5 mins walk away, and I have never in my life swum anywhere more beautiful.

A smaller hostel experience

A very pleasant 1 night stay for 2 families of 4 in 2 family rooms. Kitchen well equipped and laid out complete with dishwasher. Quiet and beautiful location not too far from central Wanaka.

Clean and comfortable

We had a good stay, nice location and a great bed. The kitchen facility is fantastic, we were impressed. However, we were unable to use the WIFI, later in the evening (night) and concluded that when more people tried to connect, the poorer it got.

Helen and Jim were exceptionally welcoming, friendly and helpful. Knowledgeable and good advice about what to do and see.My first overseas trip, and this, at the end of journey, made a lasting, positive impression.

Mountain experience in the valley

This is a lovely mountain-style lodge in the town at the base. It has wonderful staff who were really helpful and with good advice. The lodge manager (?) Helen is warm and friendly and makes everyone feel at home. Her lateral thinking has definitely helped make my stay a great experience. And that is even not taking into account her helping me with my knee injury towards the end of my stay. The lodge itself is not luxurious, but it doesn't pretend to be. It has all one needs on a country/outdoors holiday. Rooms are clean and comfy, the lounge and dining areas are a lovely place to socialise with other likeminded souls :-).

Nice quiet lodge near Wanaka. Massive communal kitchen area. Charming staff, very helpful with tips on the area. Great option if you're on a budget.

Very friendly helpful hosts. I was staying here out of the ski season, on a business trip. Worked well for me!

More than I expected

Noeline and Rob are a dear couple always ready to help, making sure their guests have a pleasant stay. I feel very well taken care of in every way with their thoughtfulness, I was there for a skip trip and I was updated by Rob with the latest snow report every 30 minutes. Everything is clean and the room is too warm! Wifi is free and fast. Kitchen is very equipped from your own pantry, fridge space to all sizes of pan, just like your own home! Highly recommended for travelers want a quality stay with a affordable price.

Wonderful Little Lodge

This 10-room hostel is wonderfully organized. If you have only stayed at YHAs before, prepare to be pleasantly surprised. Each guest room has their own shelf, bin and fridge space so you don't need to worry about labeling your food with a pen that barely works or putting little stickers all over. The kitchen is very well supplied. There is also spa pool (aka hot tub) and a drying room in the winter months (neither of which I used). The rooms and bathrooms were clean and our double bed was comfortable. It is a bit of a walk into Wanaka (about 1K) but it's pretty and we enjoyed it.

Was a lovely 2 nights stay. Rod (owner) was superbly friendly. He might look intimidating at first but he is deep down a great person once you chat up with him.

Great place to meet fellow travellers

The managers were very nice and knowledgeable about places to go and how long it would take to get there; the place was spotless, kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly need...only thing we would have liked were face clothes.

Shared restroom....inconvenient.

Shared restroom was inconvenient, having to wait for showers. Not recommended for late checkins since the office closes at 8.

Good Budget Lodge

Overall – Based off what we paid, I would have expected a bit more compared to other motels, hotels and hostels we have stayed at in New Zealand. The Wifi allocation was probably the most disappointing aspect, but lack of soap/shampoo, in room kettle and en-suite also bring the room down compared to other places stayed in at similar price points. That being said, the place was clean, nice and provided everything we really needed for a night.
