nice hostel and very happy within location , staff and room

Sleeping In A Oven! The upside was that the place was quite clean. The room was unbelievably hot, like 40 oC hot. No AC. No Fan. Nothing to move any air. We tried to put a chair in the door and open the window, but you can imagine how great that was for sleeping.

The room was clean and comfortable and the location made it easy to walk to tourist locations, take busses and go on tours.

Great hostel in the centre of the city.

Quick electronic check in/out. Short walk to everything. Excellent kitchen facilities. I stayed in a private room (shared bathroom) which was a decent size and very comfortable. The bed, pillows and sheets felt high end. I would definitely stay again.

The facilities were modern and nice, but the toilet paper was constantly out, and overall, the cleanliness was very poor.

No parking , elevator was broken our room was on the 6th floor, this is a kids hotel not meant for adults - help did offer to help carry luggage to the 6th floor we couldn’t leave there

I had a great time! I stayed 4 days in the 4 bedroom dorm. The hostel is right by CBD and everything is walkable and there’s a big bus station near bye. Heaps of cafés, restaurants, bars etc. the hostel is clean and u have everything u need. Amazing staff who’s always helpful friendly. I highly recommend staying here. The room had a comfy bed who has a shelf with outlets (also usb) and a locker near bye where u can fit a sport bag also has 2 outlets. But u need to bring ur own padlock. Quiet hours are between 10pm-7am and it was quiet at night. ✨ parking is free in front of the building between 8pm-8am after fees apply also watch out to not park at the bus stop before 8pm. Parking app is helpful (PayMyPark) because it tells u exactly if ur allowed to park or not.

I’ve stayed at other Haka Houses and this one didn’t match up to my previous experiences. To be fair, they have a significantly larger facility with a lot of guests but the overall cleanliness and friendliness of staff was lower than previous experiences.

Great Hostel

Great accommodation in a brilliant location. Clean and very modern. The only problem is the walls are paper thin. We had an issue with a noisy guest. Chris from reception came up immediately and dealt with the problem. We enjoyed our stay.

Prime location

Great location right by waterfront in city. The bathroom on our floor wasn’t particularly clean. Other than that it was a good stay.

A good place to stay. Great location in central Wellington. Easy walking distance to city venues. Bus stops handy. Nice clean room ; good shower. We even had a view of the harbour. We will be back. Thank you :)

Basic but very clean & great rooms. Bathrooms & showers adequate - 1x shower head broken.

Staff did not advise as to the location of toilets and showers. Neighbouring occupants did not keep quiet after 10pm and woke me at 3.20am.

I just needed a place that was central city for one night. The room was wonderful, the locaation was perfect and the cost was fantastic. Even with so many people and rooms it was actually very quiet when i was in my room.

Nice room but walls paper thin- woken nearly by people talking in next room. And noisy outside too. Beds and ensuite good though

Great value for money. Front desk team super friendly, housekeeping could make some improvements... Id definitely stay again. Though I may up grade to an ensuite next time, just for the convenience. Cheers team.

The pictures of the property were a far cry from reality. Both on the outside and the inside. Worst of all our floor smelt of wet shoes and dirty clothing, and the bedding was stained and looked like it had not been changed.

The check - in process was horrendous, 7 hours waiting for my room. Despite requesting early check - in, even at 2pm room was still not ready no sense of urgency from reception staff. It ruined my holiday, 3 days spent in my room from lactic buildup & cramps. The negative, showers were not large enough to swing a cat, the drive - way was meant to stay clear - even had tow truck warnings. The kettle had to balance on the bedhead, cord couldn't reach, on my floor it was a construction site, rubbish overflowing near entrance, beds were back breaking & toilets always out of paper. The positives great location & close to transport.

The cleaning lady met us after hours to give us our key. On-street Parking was free over night. Supermarket across the road.

Great location, no need for a car since I was visiting for only a few days. Easy check in and check out. First night was great in an ensuite room, slept well. Booked a second night last minute in a private room with shared bathroom, and it was quite noisy in the hallways late night. I was woken up from constant loud slamming of doors around 1am. Shared bathroom had unpleasant smell and laundry room had scattered trash all over. First time at Haka House, will continue to try staying at the different locations around NZ.

The room was good, clean and tidy, but there was lots of rubbish stored up in the downstairs area, which made it untidy.

Haka House Wellington is a great location, and our twin room with an ensuite offered a good amount of space. However, the advertised amenities like a hairdryer and kettle were missing, which was a disappointment, especially since the receptionist mentioned it had been like that for weeks. "Sorry" doesn't cut it, it's misleading. The hair drier on the 5th floor wasn't working. Disappointing. The room itself felt a bit bare-bones. Two coat hangers were hardly enough for two people, and the lack of drawers or a cupboard made it difficult to unpack. A small detail, but having the bath soap located outside the shower was inconvenient. The hostel's wifi was easy to connect to and worked well with mobile phones. Unfortunately, it wasn't compatible with my Mac laptop (security related), forcing me to tether with phone. It's important to note that the hostel can get noisy on Thursdays through Saturdays due to young guests partying. While I was able to sleep through it, those with lighter sleep might want to consider this. Additionally, the walls seemed thin, allowing some noise from neighbouring rooms. You will hear a lot of road noise during the day. The advertised "harbour view" came with a bit of a surprise - a prominent view of the New World loading dock and its wheelie bins. While the harbour was still visible, it wasn't quite the picturesque scene I was expecting. Comes back to the old adage: You get what you pay for.

Too noisey and the bathroom wasnt clean

We booked a super twin bedroom, which we did not get. The room was clean but there were no facilities for making a cup of coffee. We had to go down stairs if we wanted a drink.

This was my first time at this property and it was amazing. The dorm rooms are spacious and the beds are wonderful. The bunks are clean, comfortable and the individual plugs and lights are appreciated. Not to mention the curtains on each bunk to provide privacy and keep the light out when sleeping. The lockers are big enough and the property itself is centrally located. The only slight minus is the bathroom in the dorm needs an extraction fan of some sort to help clear the air and the steam. Also, perhaps more hooks for clothing and towels while showering. Overall, a great experience and I have booked in again already.

Really liked this hostel. Kitchen and dining areas are spacious and there’s plenty of fridges/storage space. Rooms are nice and modern and the beds with the curtains are so nice and cosy/private, however the rooms do get quite warm and the windows don’t open very far to get much air in. We had to prop the door to the room open to get the cooler air from the corridor in Bathrooms nice and clean. Great location close to the city centre, opposite a New World (supermarket) and right by the waterfront. There are also car parks close by (you do have to pay, there’s no free parking until after 8pm). Would definitely stay here again!

The area is at the center so its convenient. The room is clean and tidy but the neighbors were so loud.

Hostel is undergoing renovation which is raising the bar to a new standard of presentation.

Considering the property is in the middle of renovations, our rooms were clean and tidy and perfect for us. One of the bunks was damaged, so they provided us the room next door at no extra cost. We had no hot water in our ensuite shower for any of the 3 nights we stayed, but could at least still access the communal bathroom facilities. The communal kitchen was great, however more bench cloths were needed, and more frequent cleaning would gave made it more appealing.

Our top bunk had no railing or mattress so we were given a second room for free! However, one room had no hot water in the shower and the other had no cold water in the shower. The hot water urn was out of order in the shared kitchen and there were no kettles, so the staff used their space to bring us hot water. The key cards stopped working each day, so we had to keep getting these reprogrammed at reception. Overall we enjoyed our stay and loved our room.

Easy as thanks for having us

A total gem. We were blown away with how awesome this place was in every way. First, it's totally clean, inside and out. Room is clean, restrooms, hallway; someone definitely cares about this place. Second, parking was a total breeze. While their location is in downtown, there is plenty of street parking right next to the hotel that is free at night. I suppose this might be a costly proposition if you need to leave a car there during the day, but for staying overnight this is perfect, free and convenient. Also, the ferry is just 8 minutes drive away in case you're headed to the South Island. Thirdly, the staff is polite, energized and knowledgeable. Lastly, while the place is under renovation, it didn't impede our stay in any way. Frankly, this place exceeded my expectations in every way and made me wonder why some folks are complaining about in their reviews...

The room was very dark and smelly.with all the building work going on the place didnt feel safe.

All good, clean and friendly. A shame the laundry wasn't able to be used.

There was a gross stench in the kitchen like rotten food, that permeated the dining area. There was an infestation of fruit flies throughout the kitchen area. The kitchen looked grubby. My shower was the cold side of tepid; too cold to get in. There was no laundry facilities, and I had not been told of this prior to arrival I had been made aware that there was renovation work, so the noise was acceptable. What I was NOT forewarned about was the shabby state of the dining room, the lack of a communal lounge, and the entrance way surrounded by bins

Very clean and accommodating the staff were a delight and this was all whilst renovations were being done during the daytime hours can’t wait to see its completion. Great free on street parking overnight and supermarket across the road 👌

The joker at my check in was quite rude and short with me. However, The young fellow on my departure was very pleasant. I found the facilities and amenities grubby, my room was cold, blanket insufficient, the bathroom very grubby. I can't believe the price I paid, when I could spend another $30-$40 and have a nice hotel type stay.

Very handy affordable three night stay in a twin room all to myself.

Unfortunately some of the other guests had not cleaned up after themselves in the kitchen, but nor had staff, even after 24 hours so using the kitchen wasn't a pleasant experience. Generally the place seemed quite run down. But it sure is a great location and I slept well, so no complaints there.

There were school aged children running around making tons of noise and being very disruptive. Instead of do anything about it, the staff member who was not wearing a mask put me in a different room on a floor where the bathroom was out of order. I then had to be inconvenienced again to move rooms a second time. I was not the one being disruptive and should not of been inconvenienced due to someone else’s inability to be respectful to other guests. The staff members not wearing masks, or not wearing them correctly just shows they do not care about their guests and in these trying times I will take my money and stay elsewhere next time.

Central location.

A good room for a short stay. Room facilities were basic, but that is to be expected for the type of room. Friendly staff and fast check in / checkout.

Property is in a great location, near museum, easy walk to super market, lovely. Still along oriental Parade, and easy stroll to yummy restaurant and bars. Though very clean decore a little dated. Had a great stay :)

Overall it was a great experience. Room and shared bathroom were clean. A bonus of a towel to use was excellent. The bed was comfortable and I slept well till 5.50am when I was woken up by a baby crying and crawling around the hall outside the room. Only to just get back to sleep when someone close by in another room started being sick. In general a good place to stay if you need cheap accommodation. The yha were not to blame for the people who woke me up... It was just unfortunate.
