The location above the shopping centre was surprisingly good! Easy walking distance to all the restaurants and shops. The breakfast was excellent! Staff were amazing, especially Chris & Terry. Thank you for a wonderful stay, kids loved it.

Family stay for one night.

The staff at the hotel were super friendly and amazing! We arrived early, our room wasn’t ready but they gave us another room righter away. That was so appreciated as we travelled long days to get there. However, our room was dated and worn. Living room furniture very worn out and not comfortable, perhaps our original room was to be more updated I’m not sure. But I was quite disappointed with the state of the accommodations. The location was perfect! The people were helpful and friendly!

Great place in Hermanus

Fantastic apartment style stay close to everything. The shopping mall downstairs is incredibly convenient for groceries and liquor store. Solid breakfast. Marcus gave us some great local restaurant recs

one night in Hermanus

Unfortunately the property had roof leaks and so two of the bedrooms we couldn't use properly once it started raining so made the stay not pleasant at all. Because it was about 2am that the water came through it was way too late to try and change apartments. looking at the wardrobes it has obviously been leaking for a long period as they had swollen up. The staff were apologetic though once we told them on check out

Nice hotel with unfriendly maintenance man

Overall this place was fine. It is a bit odd because it is in a mall but I knew that. But here is where our problems started. We had a few minor maintenance issues in the unit. I had booked a 3 bedroom unit but they put us in a 4 bedroom unit. Chris the maintenance guy immediately starts chastising us for using the 4th bedroom like we were trying to steal from them. Apparently we were magically supposed to know that we weren't supposed to use that bedroom. In one of the bedrooms a light wouldn't turn off. He told us to just put the kids in there because they are always on their phones anyway. This was never fixed and we wrapped it in a towel. He was very unconcerned about the fact that my older mom slipped on their slick and dark hallways. We finally just had to basically push him out.

The apartment was lovely however the management were not accommodating at all. I emailed to arrange a late check in due to a delayed flight more than a week earlier and did not receive a response until I called the reception three days prior, who were then helpful to accommodate us and arrange for this, as well as a late check out seeing as we would only be arriving at 11pm. On the day of arrival, the night staff were very helpful and assisted us to check in at 11pm, after we drove an hour and a half from Cape Town. They took their time to make sure we had everything we needed and were comfortable. The next morning at breakfast, we waited 45 minutes to be served and when I went to reception to confirm a late check out as arranged prior to arrival, I was rudely told that this was not possible as the room needed to be prepared for the next guests, even though the necessary arrangements had been made. We then returned to the room to find the power out, and no electricity present in the prepaid meter, so I called the reception to alert them as we needed to check out in 30 minutes but the issue was rectified 25 minutes later when I walked to reception to query why nobody had attended to the issue. Only then were we given an extra 30 minutes to round up our stuff and check out in time. The apartment was lovely, but the service from the day staff at reception and the management was appalling and very disappointing, which ruined the experience for us in Hermanus unfortunately.

Beautiful location with a beautiful view . Walking distance to restaurants,,beach and other amenities.Amazing staff. We forgot our iPhone charger, staff provided one for our stay. We arrived early, staff allowed us to check in early(1pm).

Amazing location

Comfortable family stay!

The housekeeping team, bed comfort and towels/ linen where a stand out at the property. Very good! WCH is nice and central and an easy walk through the old harbour area. Really close to great coffee shops and restaurants and very easy access to beautiful seaside trails and tidal pools. Thank you to the team for being so responsive when we had requests. Areas to be looked at to enhance the stay: - breakfasts were less than average, after the first morning we chose to rather eat off property, - soaps amenities etc quality needs improvement, - with load-shedding an ever present challenge the property needs to be further integrated into an off-grid solution. Great that at minimum a light and wifi remains functional when electricity grid goes down. - the admin, check in and office environment needs a new home - the dining room is not the place for these.

Good Times in Hermanus

Great location, friendly staff, comfortable setup all round.

The place was ok. But paint was pealing. Major issue was that it rained and the corridor was slippery and you could not see the standing water. Hotel staff was not much of a help. My wife slipped as well as my kid and he actually got hurt.

We will definitely consider coming back to the Whale Coast Hotel and will recommend them to friends and family.

It was ideally located within walking distance of the beach and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was perfect for our family.

Very spacious rooms, plenty cupboards and large kitchen. Bed comfortable. Visited in August, which was winter time and the whole two story apartment felt rather cold.

Excellent location and nice apartment. Well equipped. The only point to consider is that the apartment was advertised as air conditioned however only x1 bedroom had an air conditioning unit (other bedroom & living area only had a fan). Okay for us when we were there but in hotter weather may be more of an issue.

Great long weekend at the Whale Coast Hotel

Had a lovely stay at the WHC. Staff were all so friendly and helpful. Unit was a big size and very placed in terms of shopping, restaurants etc.. The Breakfast was vey good. We would denfitely stay there again and recommend to friends. The only issues we had were: - fridge in unit 12 makes quite a loud noise - We did not have an umbrella on the verandah which basically made it impossible to sit outside on a warm day - Shower design is very weird - The shower head is very low and then there was a shelf in the ay which made it very difficult to get under the shower - especially for tall people - In the bedroom I think there is a need for a dresser of some sorts - we kept looking for space to put things on beside the 2 bed-side tables. Otherwise a wonderful wonderful stay

Fab apartment. As per previous reviews, nightmare to find but worth the effort. Great views, good breakfast, lots of space.

hotel is above a mall and a bit hard to find where to go. fortunately staff was in the parking lot and guided us to underground parking and helped with the bags.

Very good accommodation

It seemed a strange location to have accommodation above a shopping mall but it worked very well indeed. Excellent attentive staff who looked after us very well. Parking was secure and easy. Would have been excellent in all of this review but it was slightly noisy at times as you’d expect but not a real problem. Very comfortable indeed.

a good sized apartment that gives you a great self catering facility and large clean rooms. the fact it is at the top of a shopping centre is wired at first but then allows for easy access and clear to find. the location is great as out affords an easy walk to the cliff walk and also a number of restaurants. great staff who are willing to help and provide guidance.

Huge apartment in prime location

We stayed in the 1 bedroom apartment and couldn’t have been more impressed! Huge space, very spacious and clean for a great price. All the staff were very warm and welcoming and we were within walking distance to all the main restaurants and attractions. Highly recommended!

Whale of a time finding Whale Coast Hotel

Great 3 bedroom apartment, IF you can find it! Very confusing because the Parking Lot signs only mention “Mall Parking Only—No overnight parking”. We had to send one of our party upstairs to the hotel, and then a Porter came down to let us into the designated “cage” for hotel parking. There is no mention on the signage for “Whale Coast Hotel”, so plan to go up and ask for the Porter. Once you’re over that stress, the apartment isvery clean, comfortable, and well stocked.

Nice hotel close to everything

Stayed for 3 nights while visiting the area. Was not able to check in 1 hour early which was a bit inconvenient. The apartment was very spacious, over the 2 stories. The kitchen was fully equipped and the grocery store in the mall attached made it easy to prepare meals. On the negative side, both showers did not drain well. Very convenient location to shopping and the nature walks.

Very decent hotel, but not ideal

Located on the upper floor of a mall a few blocks from the coast. Not a bad location and I suppose convenient if you were to frequent the mall, but the rooms are spread out across the mall's footprint, which is not super convenient if you want to pop in and out. Honestly, the mall is not big by any means, but it also became somewhat of a nuisance if we needed to drop something off. It was quite nice that our base-level room (more like an apartment) had a full kitchen and separate living area and bedroom.

Excellent

We have had a huge apartment with Maisonette arrangement. One bedroom upstairs with two bathrooms and balcony with seaview. A large livingroom, kitchen and a second balcony. Overall it was superb. The location is very good. Restaurants are in walking distance. The whale watching spots can be reached with 15min walk. Restaurant, which was recommended had incredible good food.

VALUE FOR MONEY!!

The apartment was very nice, well equipped and located close to the waterfront. There is a supermarket, in the same premises as the apartments, which came in very handy. The staff at the reception was very helpful. Also the free shuttle service was a nice touch. Finally all of this combined with good pricing makes it an awesome overall proposition.

THE HOTEL WAS NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED. IT WAS NICER THAN THE PICTURES. STAFF ARE FREINDY AND VERY HELPFULL. I RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE WANTING A NICE PLACE TO STAY IN HERMANUS.

Great Location.

The location was the best part about the hotel. Very central to everything - food and shopping. Don't even need to drive around. The only downside is that it can be a bit noisy because it is in a shopping mall. I had a lovely view of the sea from the room and could even hear the waves if the wind was just right. The staff are extremely friendly even before we arrived at the hotel.

Hi, internet/ wi-fi very very slow, basically impossible to work or surf the internet. Overall we were happy with the stay, location is perfect and the apartment was very clean. No other issue or complaint just in regards to the wi-fi.

Really nice apartments in the centre of Hermanus with easy access to all amenities. Overlooks the local supermarket car park which sounds odd but there were no issues. Staff were very frienly and accommodating re early check-in and a late check-out ( only 1 hour which they didn;t charge for despite their literatire saying it would cost R250 ).

Modern and lovely Apart-Hotel

Apartment - Really well fitted out, extremely clean, spread across two floors, two upstairs bedrooms, two bathrooms, lovely balcony, braai (which we didn't use), air con, TV, free parking, very secure. Location - Needs to have better directions as the fact it is above a shopping mall should be made more obvious. Not far to walk to restaurants, the front, etc and close to route-ways in/out of Hermanus. Check in - this was all very easy. Wi-Fi - Another place with codes which only last a certain amount of time. Would be better if unrestricted or to just give out more codes. Would be good to have a phone to contact reception as when needed, it is quite a walk through the shopping centre to get to reception. Also it was annoying to get back to our room to find the key didn't work and then the receptionist also struggled with the electronic device he had. In total we were hanging around for about 20 minutes to try and get in which was pretty frustrating at the end of a night.. Tip - Best to book restaurants as many of the best ones were fully booked.

Convenient and centrall located hotel

The hotel apartment is located above a shopping complex and within walking distance to the town centre where all the activities are. Supermarket below adds to the convenience when one needs groceries for cooking. Apartment was clean and well equipped. Hotel management was always in touch even before we check in and staff were friendly too. Highly recommended.

Lovely comfortable apartment

We stayed in a really nice two bed apartment. As it was our honeymoon they left us a lovely note with bottle of wine and chocolate. Really comfortable bed with feather duvet. Very helpful staff booked us a table at the pear tree where dinner was excellent.

Spacious, convenient, self-catering hotel

We are a family with little children, being for the first time in South Africa. Stayed in Hermanus for only one night. The hotel was great, located quite in the center with very spacious rooms, comfortable beds and large bathrooms. It is a self catering hotel with a large and very well-equipped kitchen. It is located close by the mall, with "Checkers" a large supermarket, inside; very convenient for self catering. The hotel staff were friendly and professional. We enjoyed our stay and wished we could stay longer.

Hotel is located on top floor of shopping mall

This hotel is located on the top (second) floor of a shopping mall. It is difficult to find the hotel, and the rooms and parking are difficult to figure out. I have never spent more time trying to figure out where to park my car, or how to get to my room. The rooms themselves are 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, very clean and very nice. The view is of the shopping mall parking lot. Getting to the rooms is inconvenient at best and nearly impossible if you choose the wrong mall entrance. I loved the cleanliness and design of the apartments, except the bathroom is only on the top floor in the main bedroom (no bathroom on the first floor living level). Not a bad place to stay once you have the logistics figured out.

Amazing apartment in the heart of the whale coast

Apartment was fabulously equipped and very comfortable. It's near the heart of Hermanus - with all the facilities within a 5 minute walk. The facility is above a small mall so getting provisions is super easy. Driving directions are accurate but by simply mentioning the mall they would be even easier to follow. Superb stay

Good Value but don't rely on the internet

A strange place as per what we had read - it's on the upper floor of small shopping mall. You have to access by meandering through the upper level of mall passing through 2 security gates with fob access. Not a problem once you get your bearings. The apartments are quite nice internally and have a small balcony with decent facilities. Main drawback when we stayed was that there is only air conditioning unit in the main bedroom and so my sons room was like a sauna when we stayed as it hit 90 de gone day. Final main frustration was the Internet. We all rely on it and it was hopeless during our stay - completely absent for 2 days. Most frustrating was the fact that the hotel couldn't properly explain what happening which is poor. Explanations ranged from its ok to I thought it had been fixed. Giving clarity on the status is all people ask and there were many frustrated customers when we stayed. Overall it's pretty good value so maybe no surprise.

We had a great stay in Hermanus, even if the weather was not perfect. The apartment, was in excellent condition and the service from Rowina at reception was exceptional.

Everything about this hotel was exactly as shown on the websites. All in very good condition and extremely clean. The staff were very friendly, awesome people. We will definitely stay at Whale Coast hotel again next time we are in Hermanus. The area is very well maintained and the hotel is within walking distance to everything. Only thing we missed was a washing machine and tumble drier or drying rack, especially if one has an extended holiday.There is more than enough space for the appliances in the kitchen.
