Excellent

Great hotel if you're planning to spend time at the beach and eat within the hotel. There's a few local restaurants we tried and they're well worth a visit. The food at the hotel was excellent and the team were always happy to accommodate requests It's a about 2.5 hrs from the international airport. Shout out to Anne and Dimuthu from the hospitality team in the restaurant who would always come by and check in with us.

A 5 star hotel anywhere in the world

Only a quick 1-night stay, with late arrival and early departure- so limited opportunity to use the facilities. From checking in to checking out, our own experiences were fully positive, The staff are professional, the room was excellent and the breakfast of high quality

Luxurious Oasis with Breathtaking Views

I recently spent 3 days at the Weligama Bay Marriott Resort during a work trip to Matara, and I'm thoroughly impressed. This resort is a true gem overlooking the stunning Weligama Bay. From the moment you enter, you're greeted by the soothing sound of waves and exceptional service. The rooms are excellently appointed with perfectly functioning air-conditioning - a true comfort in Sri Lanka's climate. The breakfast is a highlight, offering an impressive array of options from Sri Lanka, India, China, and the West. There's an abundance of fresh fruits, breads, and yogurt to satisfy every palate. While the resort is somewhat isolated, it's a self-contained paradise. Be aware that prices for rooms, restaurants, and drinks are comparable to US rates, which is higher than the local average. However, the quality of the experience fully justifies the cost. From the luxurious rooms to the impeccable service, everything about this resort exudes excellence. If you're looking for a high-end getaway in southern Sri Lanka, the Weligama Bay Marriott Resort delivers an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for those seeking a luxurious escape.

Loved our stay here, the service was excellent and so were the staff. The rooms were very clean and comfortable too.

Staff were exceptional I’m gluten free and the staff really looked after me without prompting. A lovely place to stay

Hotel was excellent. Spacious rooms, excellent amenities, great dining options - but what really made the difference in our stay was Yasara, a guest experience specialist, who was incredible.

Super friendly staff

Overall good. Food at the main restaurant was varied and great. Service attentive. Lifts not working half the time. Should put a water facility to clean our feet when coming from the beach into the hotel. Floor and lifts get wet and sandy.

The staff were lovely and very helpful. We loved the morning yoga sessions and selection of food in the buffet. However, there is a shortage of sun loungers and a lot of loud music around the pool and beach making it an unrelating experience.

A fantastic and luxurious property, that felt like a home away from home for the three nights that we stayed. Staff were so helpful and welcoming and would go out of the way to help us in any way possible. The room was incredible and so comfortable and the beach was stunning.

Disappointed

It was a large American hotel which seemed out of place in a Sri Lankan location. I didn’t enjoy it. Too American and not enough local feel. The service tried too hard and was intrusive.

Awesome property! It’s pricey but it’s Marriott, and you get what you pay for. I often stay at Marriott properties and this was one of the best ones I’ve been to. The staff was great, the whole hotel was extremely clean and stylish. Our room (King balcony ocean view) was spacious, and our bathroom felt luxurious. This was one of our last nights of our Sri Lanka trip and it was the perfect hotel to end on! Relaxing in luxury before heading home.

Fantastic hotel and service!

Really good stay at Weligama Marriott. The hotel facilities and services were amazing. Special mention to Sanduni and Ishan who were always very helpful and gave great customer service!

Excellent service

Outstanding overall, better than expected!

I was very pleasantly surprised at how much better this hotel was than I had expected, and I had high expectations! Rooms are even better than in the photos on this site. Much more to do and a bigger hotel than the impression given online. Fabulous reception area and mezzanine. Great pools and pool-side restaurant. The dinner buffet was well worth paying for, really stunning array of tasty and diverse foods, all so fresh. Room and bed so comfortable with a great bath in standard room and all newly furnished. Would definitely book again. Maybe too many small plastic water bottles. Could consider glass like other hotels now. But nice to get free water supply. Only issue was not hotel's fault, but beach water was very dirty and not really nice for swimming and also there is little to do within walking distance, no nice beach-side cafes etc. A bit in the middle of nowhere, but nice to wander amongst fishing boats on beach.

Amazing property, amazing staff

The one and only place to stay if you are visiting Weligama or Mirissa.

The one and only place to stay at Weligama. Finally a hotel that puts both Mirissa and Weligama on the tourist map without having to bother about the nightlong issues of hygiene safety and food quality.

Marriot Weligama - not great

The entire hotel had no diet drinks, so no Diet Coke or Pepsi. On departure, after spending over £2000 at the hotel we found out that we had given our last change (cash money) as tips to our waiters, however the Uber to the airport (which no human should ever get as they try to extort you half way through the journey by pretending they have “cancelled” the trip, or the app has “failed”, but this is all a big scam to give them money. Myself and my partner were traumatised by this and had to call the police as the Uber driver was very aggressive and pulled us over at a random location on the way to the airport and demanded money. The hotel staff were absolutely useless once we had officially checked out, but did eventually (after hours of discussion) give us “500 Sri Lankan rupees (about £1.30) in case of an “emergency”. I can’t imagine what emergency would be sorted by £1, but hey these people are experts at extortion. The same scam happened on the journey from Colombo to the hotel, so please never ever, get an Uber in Sri Lanka- they always will try and scam you and intimidate you. I genuinely can’t imagine how bad the journeys would have been if my partner was alone, or with a child.

Top Shelf Service at a Beautiful Hotel

Lovely stay at a great hotel. Amenities were superb, buffet breakfast was awesome, and the location on the best surf break in Weligama was perfect. Service was impeccable! Highly recommend!

Fantastic views of the ocean from every room and the friendliness of the staff made this an exceptional stay! Ishaak offered a warm welcome and Ridma and Gayan went to great lengths to make each of our dining experiences ones to remember! The staff and the views are top notch!

Great hotel, great staff, modern and clean rooms

What I liked most is the availability of multiple restaurants serving different cuisines, so one would be able to choose from a variety of dishes. I also liked the proximity of the hotel next to many shops selling all what you may need. I didn’t like the sea, as it was very difficult to swim will all the surfers around.

Excellent hotel in Weligama

We stayed at the Marriott in Weligama for 7 days and we loved every minute of it. The staff is super nice and friendly, they helped us in everything they could and were very helpful and understanding to small kids' needs. I highly recommend this hotel in Weligama. the area in really nice, good beach and many restaurants around.

The accomodation was excellent and so was the service. We regret having stayed only one night to enjoy the facilities more. Highly recommended and we will definitely come again.

Outstanding resort, unrivaled customer service

We had a fantastic stay at the Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa. It was hands down the most fabulous hotel we have ever stayed in. Everywhere was very clean and finished to an excellent standard. The highlight were the staff - they were just so friendly and helpful. At breakfast all staff members were so pleasant, and even remembered our coffee orders! (Thank you Pamuditha and Udara!). The food was of an exceptionally high standard. I would definitely recommend trying Fish Restaurant, where we sampled very fresh lobster and other fish, helped by excellent staff such as Dilshan and Chef Saman. We stayed here at the beginning of the Corona virus lockdown, and here we felt safe - everyone's temperature was checked before entering the resort and the resort was protected by police. I would highly recommend a stay here - hopefully I will return in the future!

Superb Hotel & friendly Staff

Amazing hotel, super friendly and warm Staff. A special thanks to Dineshi at the front desk, Niramana and Chef Kamal who went out of the way to make our stay to make our stay very special. The hotel was so good that we were booked for 3 days and decided to extend for another 4 days!

Beautiful view of the indian ocean. Very friendly staff who made my family feel welcomed. They always went the extra mile to make sure we enjoyed our stay.

A tranquil beach resort in the Weligama Bay........

The grounds are beautifully maintained and the location is spectacular. The check-in and check-out process was very long and arduous. We waited in line 30 minutes to check-out and the billing still wasn’t correct even after spending another 20 minutes talking to staff.

Disappointed stay

There is a problem with the booking. Slow check-in. Very disappointed experience. Not a five-star hotel service.

The staff and service was horrible. They were so slow and took 30 minutes for a single check in and check out. The resort was good but the lack of good service abd staff made it unpleasant

Fantastic Hotel

Fantastic hotel. Spacious rooms with unbelievably beautiful views over Weligama Bay, free fast wifi, lovely bath, amazingly tasty food and fabulous service. Perfect holiday destination.

Beyond expectation

Just so amazing, everything is so perfect I stayed there for 3 nights and didn’t leave the hotel cuz I didn’t need to! The beach is so great!

Amazing hotel, needs allergy info

Hotel is absolutely beautiful and the rooms are immaculate. The staff are just incredible - so attentive, friendly and polite. The only thing we had a criticism of was the complete lack of allergy info on any of the food (at all the restaurants but especially the buffet). It meant we had to ask a lot of the time and staff didn’t always seem to know quite what we meant (eg does this curry have dairy in it?). Some simple allergy symbols on the food labels in the buffet would hugely improve the food offering of the hotel. All in all though, absolutely beautiful and the food we could eat was amazing. Highly recommend staying here!

Very well appointed, good service. The lobby bathroom smelled terrible, and there was an offensive cinnamon smell everywhere- they should keep public spaces fragrant-free. It’s both nauseating and unfair by those who have allergies.

We planned to stay for 5 night but actually we left after 2 night to other resort. At check out , no body asked us why do want to leave ???? They do not care. It is good and luxury hotel but not a resort. At check in , no body explain to us the way to the room and the hotel facilities. If u want to stay in hotel , this is will be good choice but if u want a resort to stay away. It is very small. Staff are friendly and helpful. Has Small , very small garden. No Activity in the hotel. Swimming pool is small and crowded. Buffet is crowded, u have to book !!!!! First time to c place where u have to book table for buffet. Even with booking , u have to wait 30 minutes. Food was excellent. Room is well maintained, big , bed is comfortable but pillows has water smell , we had to change it many times. They have small kids club. Spa , was full , could not try. Poor insects control. One lady from kids club her name is Rofiny, called my room 5 time asked me to take my kids ( my kids did not go to kids club ) , I told her u r dialing wrong number , but she kept calling us and when I said it is wrong , she hanged up the phone without even say she was sorry. Will not go back again

Lovely hotel the staff was above and beyond, never in my life have I seen staff that are this friendly and helpful. Rooms are exquisite and the view of the ocean from the balcony is breathtaking. Resort was relatively small and beach access could be improved. Resort is located on a public beach, however lounge chairs are not available and you are not allowed to take the hotel towels onto the beach. Only one restaurant was open during our week long visit. The Weligama kitchen, breakfast was very good with loads of variety but dinner could be improved. They had three stations, two for asian based cuisine and one for Western. The Asian stations we sadly were unable to enjoy because the food was extremely spicy and no mild versions were offered so we had to stick to the Western counter only which meant fewer options. Overall the room service could be improved, the food is very average. There are not many facilities available on site, so I would recommend booking trips and activities otherwise one could get bored. There was a very distinct smelling airfreshner used in the lobby which we found unpleasant and strong. All in all a great trip at a good hotel with wonderful staff.

Highly recommended property

This is an amazing property. Very neat and clean with great beach for surfing. Staff is very courteous and helpful. We even got a free upgrade. Breakfast buffet was awesome and had a lot of variety. they would even give you complimentary salad helping in ala carte. The local area can be explored on a tuk tuk and is everything is close by. highly recommended

This location is fantastic, with facilities galore. It’s a surfers paradise on the beach and there are 3 pools for all ages. The Weligama kitchen restaurant is fantastic and if you tip the waiter and chefs on the first day they will cook you whatever you want in your own personal style. I was in Sri Lanka during the bombings and the staff were informative and security was on point.

Phenomenal new and modern property which exceeded all expections for the price. The beach was the best public beach iv ever been on, and the staff and food were excellent.

The room was stunning and they all have an amazing view over looking the ocean. We ate in the restaurant daily and the food was fresh & delicious with loads of different options to choose from. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Not clean and bad pest control. No proper beds for babies

The staff was incredible! Checking in was luxurious with a warm greeting from drums, refreshing towels and prompt bag service to the room and apple mint juice. The room was beautiful, the view outstanding and the service amazing. We tried to extend our stay but the hotel was sold out. Otherwise we could have stayed longer.

On The Beach

Clean, friendly stafff. Food is exceptional. Beach is wonderful, Internet is OUTSTANDING. They went over and above to make my stay as comfortable as possible. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, this is the place. It is approx 3 hrs from the airport. The nearest tourist site would be Galle. It is a wonderful place to visit. Well worth going to Galle - 45 minutes if you are into catching the sunset. Shopping and restaurants are in Galle.

4 star hotel not 5

Not a proper 5 star hotel but a decent 4 star.
