I'm going into the Warfield knowing exactly what I'm walking into. I'm on a first name basis with the staff ands it's all good. Thanks guys.
Clean and comfortable.
Stayed here 6 nights in February 2025. Had a positive experience of this hotel, frienfly staff. Stayed in a room with king size bed and private bathroom. I enjoyed having a fridge and microwave in the room.
Was supposed stay here was afraid get out car that took us to hotel had driver keep driving till found safer area of city to stay in
Hotel is very to market street and spacious room. Breakfast isnt continental at all.
Staff is great area not so much
Me and my family stayed at this property for the weekend we spent for Valentines and upon our arrival we arrived about 2 o’clock in the morning, and we kind of felt unsafe because there were so much homeless people and drug addicts on the block in front of the hotel and pretty much around the area and we almost Was going to book another hotel, but we were like let’s just stick it out and see how it is so we pretty much parked our rental checked into the hotel which was pretty easy. The staff was very pleasant. The hotel is very old so you can’t expect much. It was built in 1907 but you know you pretty much get what you paid for. We got a room with a private bathroom and we stayed on the third floor. The room was OK. Everything was pretty much clean and put in place, but it was very very loud so getting some sleep was hard and then our next two nights there during the day it’s pretty good less homeless hanging around in front of the hotel and then the last two nights it was less homeless folks and less noise But again you know you get what you pay for and the area is pretty common for the homeless folks, other than that our stay was great we were mostly out all day exploring the city.
Nice place for the price
Nice clean rooms
Enjoyable stay
The hotel was great. Great, friendly staff, and I loved the treats they put out in the morning for breakfast.
I like it a lot.
I always have a good time when I come here. Staff know me by name and I feel welcome. That's why I keep coming back.
Horrible never again!!!
Very dirty would not recommend. First room had hair all over shower plus big rips in head board . Second room was a bit cleaner. Shoes stuck to floor smoke alarm hanging from ceiling. Breakfast was toast and maybe fruit. Coffee machine broken
The staff are fantastic very helpful. Great value for the location. So stayed there for the location - only thing of note are the homeless persons around the area.
WARNING: Please be very careful in booking at this hotel because: 1. It is located in a very dangerous part of San Francisco. Women should NEVER stay her because there are homeless people and addicts loitering around to rob and attach you. 2. Some rooms do NOT even their own BATHROOMS. It is shared. You will need to go out in the corridor to use shared TOILETS. Very dangerous for women. 3. Elevators are from 18th century. You will need to manually drag the iron doors to close them. Fels it will collapse any time while going up or down. 4. For so-called "breakfast", all you will get is a slice of bread. And water. It is close to downtown but a horrible place. Again, NOT safe for women.
Full disclosure: I did not stay at the property. Not being entirely familiar with the location of the property, I booked the hotel based on the rate, drove to it and decided it is not located in an area I feel comfortable walking around in. I decided to forfeit my booking charge and book a hotel closer to downtown proper. The hotel could very well be a quality establishment, at least for the price, but my purpose for needing to be in that location for lodging was not worth the insecurity that of my wellbeing. I hope that my eyes were deceiving me but the logical side of me determined that the cost of two hotels was worth the peace of mind of a comfortable stay. Give them a chance and decide for yourself, maybe it’s just me…
Dirty sheets, too much noise from the outside. Bed was old and made noise
The room was okay for the night. Just wish the bathroom smelled better. It looked clean but had a faint smell of urine. The front desk guy was very nice and helped me with my dress. I would book again if I really need a room in the city. I live in Oakland and only got the room because of nye and I was going to an event at the midway. I figured it would be super expensive to Uber back home. The room saved me money in the long run
The staff was very polite and helpful. However, the hotel is very unclean and unkempt. When we initially checked in, the bed spreads looked like they hadn't been changed in a while. We contacted the front desk and they were quick to change our room. The second room was better than the first but we later noticed the sheets still had strange stains on them. Moreover, the hotel had a strange smell. The road outside the hotel isn't the best but the location generally is decent, super close to the union square.
We chose this since this is affordable and in the city, but we regretted it. Staff is rude. Place is not really beautiful. They also overbooked. Three groups were waiting for them to get checked in only to be told that they had no room available. Not really worth the price.
It is okay I guess but it is the dirties hotel I have ever stayed at in my life, but it does the purpose. We had good sleep and it was cheap!
Lobby and windows dirty. Ehole place dmelled of curry cooking. Dirty towels on floor of lobby next to elevator. Outside filthy., risky. Non english speaking staff. Left and requested refund.
Clean, secure, great for price.
Best place to stay if you wanna run around and get drunk and eat food
cold !
Suits me fine
Warfield compare to other hotel/hostel in the area is more safe and less homeless. Other part of the tenderloin has a lot more homeless. I like that it convenient and short walk to Union Square where I mostly took the hop on hop off to places.
The hotel staff was very friendly. Our room was nice but leaned. The neighborhood was not the best but one block over was nice.
YES
i had my 11year old fur baby withvme and she is very well behaved and has cancer....So making her days as comfortableas i ca is my main priority....We were met in the room by rats in the mattress and they became more aggressive as te ight wet on .....The following morningwe got up and left the room for breakfast ad walgrees run ..Whren we returned there were rat dropping in the middle of yhe foor..Called the stafff and shared this with frontv des ad was given another room.I noticed that my dg had a puncturenear her tail and it was blood around it...Confirmings she waz bit ....i stayed in the 2nd room atotal of 3hrs after paying $85for the roomI ? I was not offered my money back from or even half of my money back from the staff no concern I regards to my dog only think he acts for you as how's the room so this is not a place I'll recommend to myself for dogs or anyone else beware
Couldn’t sleep as there was no sound proof windows
On Average decent
Not family friendly
Although the staff (front desk) was great, the area is terrible. Do not stay here with kids or girls, it’s not safe. There are homeless people and active drug users that linger outside the hotel. Parking is a nightmare and it’s not even safe to park on the street parking. I had to pay $40 to park overnight at a place around the corner. I booked same day and didn’t discover it’s a shared bathroom and shower for the floor between 5 rooms. I tried to cancel with no success, the manager declined my request even after voicing safety concerns. I actually was not able to even speak with him, as they refused to let me speak to him, saying he was not available. I travel with my daughters and nieces and it was the absolute worst case scenario you could imagine as far as safety. I’m still pretty upset that the manager didn’t allow the cancellation request minutes after booking. It lets a really bad impression of customer service. Therefore I would not recommend, especially for safety concerns.
Think they jacked me on my deposit
The worst hotel I have ever been to—do not stay here! Don’t waste your money or time. I couldn't sleep all night because of the constant noise: homeless people shouting, cars driving over sewer covers, and so much more. The area is terrible; stepping outside is difficult due to the large homeless presence, and you'll encounter people using drugs and even urinating or defecating around the hotel. This was, by far, my worst hotel experience.
Perfect everything was perfect
The hotel is reasonably clean, but old with some renovations. The location is accessible for activities in the city, but in a less safe neighborhood. It’s a decent hotel at a decent price for travelers on a budget.
Was pretty good for what the price is in this area for one night …. Weather still nice no need for air conditioning or heater … basic
Keep up the good work..
Great value for the location. Neighborhood is a little rough but the lobby is locked so wasn’t concerned.
The staff was great but the place was dirty. There were stains on my bed and on the mattress itself. There were also huge bugs in the bathroom. I recommend getting disposable sheets and bed bug spray if you plan on staying here.
Poor Choice of Hotel
There was no, cleaning like normal hotels do you had to ask for towels and the front desk gave you a stink about it. there was no AC, it hot and so windows needed to be open at all times. Due to this it was super loaud and could verly sleep for the entire stay. Do not stay here if you value a clean quiet stay. I had book via Hotels.com and they charged me the full amount of the stay when I had paid half when booked. Now Hotels.com does not have a good contact information for me to lauch a complain and get my money back. So I have to engage my bank.
The area was full of homeless people. Parking was expensive. The lobby looked nice. The room, on the other hand, was gross. The carpet was dirty and grimey, the beds looked questionable. As soon as I saw a rat scurry across the hallway, I had to leave. I asked for a refund, but they refused. We ended up going somewhere else and I lost several hundred dollars. Lesson learned.
To much noise and if someone misses breakfast there must be something to fix it was disappointiled had to go empty stomach
This area is full of homeless. Its scary to come out at night even for a walk. It seems this area is the worst of all the areas in SF
Happy hotel. Nice staff, and a very comfortable bed. I had a great stay.
Cheap & Clean Room in the Tenderloin
The shared bathroom situation took some getting used to but overall my experience here was good. However understand that this hotel is in the middle of the Tenderloin and surrounding areas can get a little rowdy for the unaccustomed.
If you are desperate like us , otherwise I will not recommend at all.
I loved this hotel. It was such a nice surprise. When we pulled up, I was very hesitant. The area surrounding the hotel is not a good area. But the hotel itself interior wise the rooms, the hallways. The reception area were wonderful. I love the old elevator With the cage that was so cool. I don’t remember the staff members names, but the gentleman who worked the morning to afternoon and the gentleman who worked afternoon evening and then the lady who worked overnight were all spectacular! I would stay here again in fact, I’m planning on it because it’s so central to everywhere I needed to go. Again the neighborhood is sketchy. But The hotel is lovely. I love the elevator. I got A room with a private bathroom . Spent my first anniversary with my partner there hopefully we will spend many more there as well. Loved room 305!
Overall a good place to stay for walking distance to Moscone Center
Na
The staff was really helpful and nice
I wish I could give this property a higher rating but the surroundings outside brought this rating down. But with that being said the staff are amazing made us feel safe and welcomed. The location was close to public transportation. I only wish that this hotel was one block over as once you got onto the next block the streets and sidewalks are much cleaner.
Close to everything you want to see in San Francisco, very affordable stuff was very nice I had a great time with my husband will be definitely coming back
on arrival, we found the hotel located in such horrible surroundings that we immediately decided not to check in and searched for a different place right away. Heaps of homeless people, derelict buildings everywhere, tons of garbage on the streets and the fear of leaving my car parked on the street overnight. possible highest crime rates never seen before in SF. I cancelled immediately my reservation, still awaiting refund.
We could not stay here. Homeless people at the front door. Security biz-in lock. Filthy people by the dozens walking the streets. Parking around the corner weaving through the homeless is $40 a night. All in all, the worst hotel on Hotels.com listings. We could not stay here so we went across the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods for a safe place to stay with delicious food offerings nearby.
I only liked the young lady at the counter. The place was dirty. The bed sheets were dirty with stains. I left the next day and I was willing to negotiate so I can at least get half of what I paid. This is not a hotel it is a hostel. Very disappointed.
Stains, smelled, loud, unsafe area, dirty living area, broken drawers, and cigarette hole thru the mattress.
There was no parking, had to park on the street where there were a lot of homeless and dangerous people. The limited staff was very rude, they did not pick up the room when it was unoccupied.
If you're looking for posh, this isn't the place. That being said, it's probably the nicest out of the bunch in the immediate surrounding area. I've never had a bad experience here; and the clerks I've come across at night have always shown me hospitality, trying to be as accommodating as the atmosphere allows them to be. Try it once: you haven't lived until you do.
Very neat and straight up! glad it was reliable
The room do not have bathroom
I’ve never been catfished so bad before! This is closer to a hostel than a hotel and the only way it’s 3 stars is if the rating is out of 20. The pictures online are not even close to what the hotel actually looks like. It was dirty, so much that if you walked across your room barefoot your feet would turn black. There was no room service, when we ran out of toilet paper we had to go down to the front desk to be given a roll. The tv has 3 channels, 2 of which are in Spanish. This hotel is located in the worst neighborhood in San Francisco. Only stay here if you don’t plan on being in your room much, don’t have high cleanliness standards, want to stay somewhere centrally located and close to bart, and aren’t scared of being in a really bad part of town. The staff was friendly.
We selected this property based on price and location. As first time tourists to SF, we really just wanted a convenient place to leave our luggage and sleep. This hotel was simple, tidy (I am a housekeeper so I notice things like ceiling fans and window ledges were dusted and clean) and in an excellent location. For a pampering vacation, I would pick a pampering hotel. For using public transportation, a citypass, and eating our way through various districts it was the perfect location. AND the coffee was good coffee! The neighborhood was a little sketchy for a block or two but my teenager and I felt safe and enjoyed the stay.
Well you get what you pay for
Disappointing stay
Though this property is within walking distance of Union Square, it is definitely not in the best neighborhood. Steps from the door there were syringes on the ground. The elevator was very old with a gate that didn’t seem to fully close and felt unsafe. Not great if traveling with a child. Our room had no bathroom or shower - there was a communal one for each floor, which was not clear from the property listing. The room also did not have AC which wasn’t ideal for a summer stay.
Nice staff but location sucks.
First I have to praise the guy at the front desk, he was awesome. The location though is awful, loud and dirty with lots of night activity from homeless. Our room felt like the mystery house, it was not level, you could feel the slant and it messed with my equilibrium. I felt like I could not “gravity” properly. It even made me feel sea sick. I put a chapstick on the floor of the high end and it rolled so fast to the other side of the room. We did love the old school elevator and creepy hallway vibes! The room felt as crooked as this photo looks!
Staff is great
The worst hotel I have ever been to in my life. Please do not trust the photos on Expedia. The whole room will be covered in stains. The shower will not work. Worst of all, there is clearly a roach infestation. They also refused to take my calls after I left the hotel and would quickly hang up on me even though I only asked if a partial refund was possible (and I did not sleep in this hotel even one of the three nights I booked) There is absolutely zero transparency. Please consider another place for your safety! Especially if you are a woman, it is worthwhile to seek a place to stay that is clean and safe. You will not find it here.
Just no
There were bed bugs in my room. The staff very kindly responded appropriately and moved me to a different room. I was quite surprised how much nicer the 2nd room looked. The first room was shabby and not very clean, and didn't look like the pic on the booking site. The 2nd room also had bed bugs. The night desk clerk told me no one complained to him of bed bugs. I got video of one crawling across the bed. They kindly gave me a refund for my 2 unused nights. But it was a traumatic experience all around, with the parasites and having to hear people using the adjoining room for extracurricular activities that involved a lot of screaming and banging.
its good
Great staff!
The lady at the desk was very pleasant. This area is AWFUL! save your money and stay in a safer neighborhood. Also, they don’t come with “private” bathroom. It was a jaw dropper for me. Drug-ies, loud people. If we had to stay more than a night, I would have definitely went somewhere else. Save your money and don’t stay in the Tenderloin district. I did not do my homework well enough.
My uber was gonna drop me and I couldn't even get out of the car. The street was full of police and homeless. I called to please ask for a refund and it wasn't even possible. I am not mad at all, very sad and disappointed. We need a bit more of empathy.
Street construction, not a fault of the hotel.
Street construction noise, not a fault of the hotel
3/5 Stars
Room was small and didn’t have a desk; chair and sofa seat were old and visibly dirty; hair was left behind on shower wall by prior occupants; walls were very thin; WiFi was poor; bed was clean and comfy; lighting and ceiling fan were modern and efficient; tv showed Olympic coverage (bonus)
Really nice staff, very friendly and helpful! Spent two weeks here and I had no complaints
We found mouse in the hallways. Despite the fact that we booked a room with a queen and 2 bunk beds that is not what we received. Our first room had no bathroom or shower and it was just 2 full sized beds. The customer service was excellent and the staff were extremely helpful. Overall we had to cut the stay at this hotel because it felt too unsafe.
Loved the accommodations and the staff. Tenderloin area is terrible but hotel makes up for it.
6.5/10
Great price, my room could have been cleaner. Terrible parking and bad area, my car window got busted but still managed to have a chill weekend.
Property was nice and maintained, staff is extremely friendly and are very helpful!
By far one of the dirtiest neighborhoods we have ever stayed in! Not able to afford giving up our already paid for room we stayed but if we could have afforded it we would have left immediately. First room smelled so bad of urine I was filled with nausea. We were given a different room and upgraded from a queen bed to a king. Only slightly cleaner I would not recommend this area to anyone!!!
Sleepless weekend in San Francisco
My stay was tiring, we had a mouse in the room that was bold and loved jumping on our beds. This mouse ate our food and there was stains on the bedding. The hotel was listed as a dog friendly place but the hotel manager did not allow our dog to stay
Pros; I did save money by staying here. Good amenities, like shampoo, lotion, hand soap, towels. Area felt cozy. The personnel were friendly. Room was clean. Breakfast available (which is only a baked good item, coffee or tea). Cons; this area of the city is filthy. Too many homeless, felt unsafe after hours. Room was facing street and there was constant noise by people walking around all night, trash pick up, and/or first responders. Too many people smoking weed which came into our room. Our bed was super squeaky, every time there was movement it would squeak. TV in room had a line running down the screen which was a little annoying, since we couldn’t enjoy a program.
Awesome and very affordable
Awesome stay. Great clean room. Awesome bathroom, and the bed is the deal breaker... perfect comfort to sleep in. I come here all the time when in San Francisco.
The place itself is fine it’s the outside that takes away from it to many homeless sleeping on the sidewalk, it just makes you feel unsafe.
Felt threatened by homeless people around it by them screaming at me, horrible and unsafe smells bad front desk did not make and effort to accommodate me and my family also had to share a bathroom with other people was not aware of if they let me know about right there and then. I will file a legal complaint against the hotel and/or Expedia if I don’t get my refund.
Will do business again
It was great for the price will go back again
The people have been exceptionally helpful and polite both years I have stayed here! I have stayed here for SF Pride weekend in June twice and plan wholeheartedly on doing it again. Surprisingly cheap.
Not a fault of the hotel, but the city is doing major street and sidewalk repairs…. So it was a bit loud. Again - not the hotels fault
We saw bed bugs the first night and switched rooms. In that second room, we saw a cockroach. Cigarette stains on blankets, stains on towels, hairs all over the blankets. We left before our second night. Unfortunately, can't get our money back.
I cannot say enough good things about the staff. They are just terrific.
great value and helpful staff
Sam and his staff always make sure that you have everything you need. From extra towels, directions, or restaurant recommendations.
I like it, because I like it. It's low-key, and people mind their own business. Cheers.
Staff is great
Staff is terrific
Clean Breakfast and Good Price
It was clean and worth the price.Even got breakfast in the morning.
Warfield Hotel | Hotel in San Francisco | Travala.com
The hotel was decent, staff was amicable. Room met expectations. My goal of travel was to explore SF cheaply. I did not stay in the hotel beyond sleeping, eating and bathing. The hotel is a brisk walk to the theater, and it made for a decent accommodation. The location isn’t ideal. It’s the Tenderloin. It’s loud, it’s filled with weed smoke, homeless, it’s not pretty. But, for an affordable rate with decent staff, this hotel makes up for what it loses in location. If you don’t make yourself a target, it’s fine. The hotel has security cameras and my room had a functioning deadbolt. The safety aspect isn’t the fault of the hotel. They make it work, and I didn’t feel unsafe during my stay. I wore headphones while I slept to quiet the noise. All good to me. The Warfield is blocks away from nearby BART, even closer to MUNI bus stations. If the Tenderloin isn’t your vibe, you’re certainly able to move around with ease. Lyft was easy here. Elevator is old fashioned with its gate. It probably would benefit from a renovation. I suspect a wheelchair user might have some difficulty. Room wasn’t perfectly clean, but it was good enough. No bedbugs or creatures. Coffee and “breakfast” could have been a bit longer, but it wasn’t important to me. It was basic. Overall, great hotel if you have low expectations. It’s not a Marriott or Hilton, but it’ll get the job done good enough. Will come back if SF holds another similar event. ≈$80/night; I got what I paid for. :)
