Great property. A bit far from the city center
Our 3rd stay and would highly recommend for a spacious hotel in a great location. Only thing we didn’t like was other clients smoking in the outside eating area at breakfast.
Nuno at the concierge was very friendly and helpful! The breakfast was one of the best we had in our 10 days in Portugal, classics done well. Excellent water pressure in the shower.
Don’t have reserved space with chairs at the beach
This property is in a wonderful location, close to a beautiful beach and walkable to Lagos. Very good staff and great pool area. Rooms had a musty smell and shower in bath that is not very safe. Buffet breaki was average for the price. We liked that there was a gate to access beach with room key, but by 930pm when we were returning from Lagos it was padlocked closed!! I recommend the area, but not sold on the hotel.
Great Hotel in quiet location close to bars and restaurants at marina. Lovely swimming pool with ample sun loungers
The property was amazing! Beautiful area.
The swimming pool it’s amazing!! The spa offers a relaxing time and it’s easy to book a place. The room with sea/swimming pool view and the balcony…you’ll want to repeat! Watching the moonlight over the sea, the sunrise and so many beautiful views from the beach. Buffet is very good and with different thematic every night. You’re surrounded by nature, one step from one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve: Meia Praia. Visit Ponta da Piedade and watch the sunset: breathtaking! 1st time I went there had lunch in Camilo restaurant, to repeat! This was my second time in Vila Gale Lagos, hope to come back many more!
Perfect
It was a beautiful break...with the hop on hop off train with an incredible guide

location was great for access to beach and marina. Pool was so lovely and large enough that people are not on top of each other, creates a very calm atmosphere, the staff were lovely. Hotel looks and feels new and modern. great trip.
The rooms is comfortable, a good size with the balcony. I didn't like to have to book the access to the swimming pool
This is a nice property, somewhat dated. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful, service staff wasn’t overly helpful or friendly. The property is fairly far away from the main town so unless you have a car or enjoy long walks this could be a limitation.
Nice enough hotel. Great spa with steam room, sauna, indoor pool, spraying jets, outdoor pool, playgrounds. Large sprawling property. Indoor garage 3 euros. A bit beaucratic where you need to go to spa office to get and return your pool towels but all in all a nice resort. Need to drive out to get to restaurants, groceries, etc but all close enough.
Everyone was very helpful and the property was superb!!!!!
Easy access to the beach and a good walk into the town center. Staff were helpful, room was quiet, and buffet breakfast offered a nice variety. Wi-Fi during peaks times was slow to respond, but functioned well during non-peak times (early morning, late evening). Overall, a good value for money and an enjoyable stay in Lagos.
The location of this property is great, especially if you don't have a car. It's close to the beach and the marina as well as a short walk to the old town. There is a grocery store 15 minutes away. The facilities are great, especially for kids. There is a large pool and deck, children's playground and indoor pool. Rooms are large. A small thing to remember is to bring shampoo/conditioner as they don't supply it and if you can bring your own hairdryer. There's doesn't work. Great stay, I would come back for sure.
Excellent trip to Lagos
Great hotel and excellent facilities. Just out of the main town and bars and restaurants area, a short (10mins) walk to the marina but we liked that.
Very nice hotel
When we arrived, we found we had been upgraded to a Seaview which was nice! The food was really good, negative points was it took a long time before someone came to take our drinks order and also not all the food was labelled, so we didn't know what it was! The outside pool area was really nice, the indoor pool could've been more warm, we found it too cold to go inside it! Would definitely return for a 3rd time!
Great family spot close to town.
Great place to stay. We were upgraded for free and all of the staff were accomadating, friendly, and would gomoutnof the way to make out stay enjoyable.
Great food and very attentive staff. One of the best check in and check out experiences with the staff member.
Amazing swimming pool and garden
Lovely sunset
Have stayed at Vila Gale Lagos many times since it opened. Pre covid visits were all enjoyable with no questionable issues. The last two visits April 23 and more recent November 23 the food service at the evening meal have in my view, not had a varied enough choice for each course. Over the duration of 4 nights repeat items were evident each evening. What ever happened to the once a week sea food night, fresh oysters, mussels and king prawns!
This property is very close to the train station and close to the boardwalk that you can meander through the Algarve on
We stayed at Vila Gale Lagos for 2 days. The phone in our room didn’t work, so had to go to reception to ask for clean towels on the second day. The male staff was on phone call for a long time, he saw that I was waiting to ask something, but he just ignored. When another staff came out, I asked if she can send some clean towels to my room. I showed her my room key and room number. She replied “yes”. But no one brought us any towels for the rest of the day. We are disappointed. Customer service is not good here.
Great property just outside of Lagos. Easy Uber available. Great pool.
.
We booked oceanview junior suite but did not get. Counter clerk said we did not and would not provide us unless we paid another 25 € per night. I asked to speak with manager but manager did not come out to speak with us. He/She told clerk to tell us they wouldn't do anthing for us. Staff are not friendly at all and rarely smile or say hello or Bom Dia except housekeepers. Ice is rationed. Pool bar could only provide half cup of ice. We had to tip 1€ to get a full cup of ice. 9€ for a basic bar drink! Breakfast was very good. Housekeepers did a great job. Facility is very nice. Staff need better customer service training.
Loved this place, nice and spacious and quiet, huge pool, lots of chaises (don't have to get there early to reserve one). Rooms nice and big. Included breakfast buffet was awesome. Dinner at the italian restaurant (think pizzas mostly) was good altho very loud in there.
I enjoyed my stay at the Vila Gale Lagos I haven’t stayed here for a while and it is very nice with a huge pool and nice outside bar area just across from the beach
Beach location
Have used this Hotel as a favorite many times in pasted years. Comfortable, clean accommodation with easy access to long beaches and facilities. Food on this occasion was disappointing as the evening menu had little choice and was repeated 3 times over 5 nights.
Great location and beautiful resort. Easy walk to town and beach.
It’s a nice place, walkable to the old town, train, bus. The staff are super amazing, the spa was lovely and the treatment I had there was great. Food for breakfast was abundant and tasty.
Beautiful pool. Breakfast was a little boring. Small croissants not heated nor where any of the other pastries. ONly scrambled eggs, no eggs to order. Rooms were large and comfortable but a/c very poor and very slow to cool.
A 4 star hotel with 3 star facilities. No water or tea tray in room. No entertainment of any sort through the day or night. The massage was good but didn’t get the full hour that I paid for. Staff need to be friendlier and give service with a smile!!
Very close to the beach and range of food
Great location and facilities and staff pretty good.
Great property ! Clean rooms and nice breakfast
The property was very nice. Walkable to the beach and a 20 minute walk to the marina (Found out since they do not have a shuttle). Have a very nice pool that get filled out with families. The room does not have any type of book showing what the resort offers/nearby activities/in house restaurants. Instead it has a card that you scan which did not work for English customers. Room also had no corkscrew when we asked the front desk they told us to buy one from the shop ($8) which was a let down. The breakfast buffet was average, the dinner buffet was not great. Only food we liked was from Massa Fina Restaurant. Oh you have to do reservation through that app that didnt work. But the staff was able to accommodate us. I would say this place is okay for a family but not for a couple better off find a place in town.
Friendly
Nice spot, beatiful grounds.
This place is in a great area, close to the beach. The included breakfast buffet is lackluster, but fresh. This hotel is very family oriented and perfect for kids.
The check in process took a very long time (for two guests) and staff did not seem to know what they were doing.
The location relative to town and the train station is great. However, this creates its own problems. Taxis and Ubers don't want a short fare. So, we couldn't get transport to or from the train station and we had a 15-20 minute walk with our luggage. There are no surrounding venues for eating or drinking. Our family dubbed it "The Hotel California" --- you can check in, but you can never leave. It is like a land cruise ship.
We were very disappointed at the location, lack of cleanliness and staff. We asked to check out early and they refused to reimburse us. We found hair and toe nail clippings on our room. Additionally, we heard what sounded to be furniture moving above us for over 4 hours. We were on the top floor.
Great hotel, would recommend!
Great hotel and location, and a Fabulous pool! At times, customer service not the the best in restaurants, and during checkout at reception.
The hotel had great parking, easy access to the beach, breakfast buffet, pool, and indoor and outdoor bars.
Very nice hotel, very nice breakfast, free parking, most comfortable. A tad oitside the centre but we knew that. Very close to a wonderful beach. Highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel is right beside the beach, and just a short ride into town. Excellent facility and very clean. Reasonably priced for its location. We would definitely stay here again.
Nice stay
Very nice. Hotel is as advertised and is a good solid hotel with pools and the Usual amenities. Little longer walk to town than expected- shuttle would be a nice addition
When we got to room no hand towels or washcloths. One of pillows had a faint smell, gave to cleaning lady to exchange and didn’t get a new one before we left. Staff was very nice. Breakfast buffet was good. Dinner however was not good with empty containers and no food. People were eating like piranhas.
Swimming pools and outdoor facilities are great. Food options are not good. No bell boys or valets available to help with luggage. It’s 3-star quality.
a
Clean, great customer service
Great food, amazing location, all good no complaints
Perfection to a tee.
Amazing location, hotel ,friendly staff. Definitely will return again, highly recommended.
Couple holiday
We had a very enjoyable stay at the Vila Gale Lagos. Staff were pleasant and polite. Rooms were nicely appointed and the hotel was very clean. The outfoor pool layout is excellent and the pool bar lunch was surprisingly good. My only negative comment is regarding the breakfast buffet. It was always extremely busy and staff were under pressure making it a somewhat stressful environment. There was also variable mask wearing at the buffet. Overall we had a great time and would definitely stay again.
4 star & more.
Amazing hotel, great location, at the beach, close to the town, lovely gardens for a short stroll, large pool, plenty of sunbeds, food good, own winery plenty of choice, onsite spa, indoor pool/gym.
First breakfast only one coffee
Lovely staff. Although we went to this property in Feb (out of season) it could have done with some kind of entertainment in the evenings
The property was beautiful! The check-in was slow - a lot of people arrived at the same time. The night we were there, the electricity went out for about 15-20 minutes. The morning after that, the water wasn't working.
Great gardens, pools both indoors and outdoors. Access to beach is via a short 5 min flat walk
Recommend
Great hotel, great food, great service, great view. We loved it here. Great restaurants in walking distance, very clean. The only complaint is that the house cleaning drag the tables and chairs on the ground to clean the upstairs and adjacent rooms, making lots of noise starting at 7 am, making it hard to sleep in.
We have stayed at Vila Gale Lagos several times before and we are very happy with the hotel, staff and facilities.
Beautiful resort, reasonably priced and kid-friendly! Would definitely stay there again!
Excellent hotel. Staff lovely although so stretched. End of season so I assume they’ve dropped staff levels. Service at pool bar very slow. Staff did there best but t not enough of them
just had a good feel about it. It was excellent value
A very beautiful resort. Lovely pool area and located short walk from beach.
We had such a fantastic holiday and time in the Vila Gale hotel in Lagos. It is in a spectacular location overlooking the beautiful sandy beaches and Lagos Town. The hotel is the best I've ever stayed in. The staff are so friendly and courteous. We had breakfast in the dining hall every morning. The experience was amazing., what was laid on with regards to food and drink was varied and would cater for any taste. The quality of the breakfast was excellent, to date, I have not had a better breakfast anywhere. The foyer is majestic, the decor was something to behold, it had an art decor effect, it was plush and luxurious. The ambience of the whole place was warm and captivating. The hotel grounds, swimming pool, grass, shrubbery were immaculately kept, the employees are hard working and dedicated despite the hot weather conditions we experienced. The hotel room was marvellous, it was spotless, very spacious, the beds are so comfortable, and the bathroom facilities plush and modern. The chambermaids provided such a sterling service I tip my hat to them. I would highly recommend this hotel to all interested prospective visitors to Lagos in the Algarve, September is ideal as it's not too hot but sufficiently warm and sunny, so suits us perfectly. The location could not be better, the hotel is simply the best. Its a must. Well done Hotel Vila Lagos.
Top top top top top top top top top top top top top top top top
Front desk was very knowledgeable about restaurants, bars etc. very happy to help to make reservations
Everybody was friendly food was delirious it had a lot to offer sauna exercise classes shop near to clubs and local restaurants
The bedrooms were basic with no tea/coffee making facilities. The hot food at breakfast buffet only just warm and on one occasion was cold and restaurant area too small for number of guests using it. The bar never had enough staff and seating uncomfortable.
Cleanliness, quality of hotel, service and food all excellent. Spa a nice option for the hot lunchtime
Clean environments overall. Close to the beach and lots of activities for the kids
Great property overall, however the walls were thin between units so we were hearing a lot what was going in other rooms and it was more difficult to sleep
For a four star it was missing the fine touches, as some of the furniture it was quite worn down
Great family hotel and location but very busy at breakfast
Definitely a 5 star in my books. If you are looking for rest and relaxation, with 3 kid accessible pools, and an indoor gym and spa services this is the place to be. The breakfast could had more variety but the resturants near the marina were amazing and cheap. Would definitely come back again
Lovely reception staff, clean rooms, walking distance to town, clean pool, celebrating my boyfriends birthday and they wished him happy birthday at breakfast, gave us free sparkling wine and chocolates. Thank you so much! Will certainly be back.
As we was on a late flight we arrived late - check in was smooth and fast Thank you
Very near the beach ( meia praia), not far from town( walking distance).Pancakes at breakfast were really good!Staff were helpful.
The grounds are beautiful and complete with so much to do - tennis, putting green - beautiful indoor and outdoor pools and a good gym which is hard to find in Europe! Breakfast buffet provided both a wide array of savoury and sweet selections! Although we weren’t traveling with little kids, there were many families there- I could see why... there’s so much to do..a bit remote 30 minute walk to town but 5 from the beach - overall and outstanding facility
Amazing resort and the staff are so nice and accommodating
Expensive and disappointing
The hotel is nice and fairly new and modern. Parking is free which is very helpful in Europe. Our problems started at check in. We arrived at the hotel, checked in and got the keys to our room. As soon as we got the luggage out of the car and started to walk to the room hotel staff informed us that we cannot enter the room until check in time at 2:00 pm. We ended up sitting in the lobby for an hour. This hotel is not close to town. The beach is nice but cold. We did enjoy the hotel pool. Very family friendly with lots of activities for the kids. The room does not get cleaned until well into the late afternoon. Breakfast is ok but we could not get a decent cup of coffee. After our stay when we arrived at our next hotel we discovered that several items were missing. We reached out to the hotel but never heard a back from them. Disappointing.
I had a wonderful stay! I had a great facial, enjoyed the pool, and the fancy restaurant is great. I had the steak with onions and it was delicious! Highly recommend staying here as a treat yourself part of your journey!
Main is location, a mile to city centre, yards to the beach and what a beach, clean and spacious, we had half board, plenty of food and tasty too, overwhelming choice, the staff was superb, Liliana at breakfast is most definitely a gem on their crown, one tiny thing is the doors to the pool area, needed a bit more of cleaning, almost forgot, the pool is great and immense, bar and restaurant by the pool, is good tasty and cheap as chips! Loved it all
Crowded breakfast. Nice pools and proximity to a fantastic beach
Great clean property and friendly staff; excellent breakfast Buffett; overall great value.
The grounds were pristine. The view was spectacular. The buffet breakfast was delicious. The staff very helpful.
The hotel staff at the reception spoke good English - however the remainder of the staff (especially in the resturant) did not appear to be able to communicate in English. There was no coffee or tea making facility in the room - we did manage after obtain a kettle and cups upon request (but it took 24 hours to arrive at the room). The most disappointing feature of the hotel was it resturant ! The meals were generally very poor - we eventually elected to pay a taxi fare and eat down town in Lagos, Poor show !
Had an amazing time at this resort. Everything was great. Pool not heated. Food not expensive. Staff very helpful. Beautiful seaview.
I liked how clean the entire property was. The staff was good and we never had any issues.
Some distance from the centre and apart from Tavares the Fashion Bar service was poor. Otherwise excellent.
Room wasn’t ready until an hour after checkin time. Disappointed not to be given sea view room- we overlooked a skip in the car park. Very noisy plumbing. Staff seemed mostly inexperienced and check in was slow. Breakfast buffet was good but dinner buffet was average. Nice touch from the management though when they gave us complimentary fizz and cake as it was my birthday while we were there.
Amazing breakfast, pool, and beach!! The review site is demanding 50 characters.
All of the staff were very nice but sadly they were bad at their jobs. Basic training seemed to be entirely missing! The receptionists would not look up and acknowledge customers waiting at reception. It was very difficult to catch the eye of a waiter in the 2 restaurants we ate in and therefore it look a very long time to order a drink. Bar staff were hell bent on continuing to clean tables when there was a queue of customers waiting at the bar. Priorities please!!!!! Not enough staff. It took sooo long to be served a drink at the pool bar as the bar man would suddenly stop serving drinks to take the food out from the kitchen. He would then return and make drinks for people who weren’t at the bar, all this time keeping us waiting. The buffet food at breakfast, lunch and dinner was very disappointing and certainly below the standard we had expected. So many of these things would cost the hotel nothing to put right.
Just a little to resort-y for my taste, which in their defence is what they've set out to do. Seems great for families with young kids (not us anymore, but remember when? ...). Coffee at breakfast was singularly bad among places we've stayed in Portugal, most everyone seems to take their coffee quite seriously. OJ also not fresh-squeezed, which I've learned to expect in the Algarve. But made-to-order omelettes were nice, not found at previous places we stayed. And the sheer size of the place (240+ rooms) meant everything was relatively fresh, death-by-heat-lamp not an issue.
Service was terrible. Good location, close to town but far enough from the business.

Big rooms, good views, pleasant staff and good food
