Urbanz is located in the centre of the city, so all city facilities are within walking distance. Yet, no noises from the outside world find their way inside. Kitchen is well equipped, showers and toilets are plenty and clean. Beds are comfortable.
In a fun area. Close to the riverfront. Great restaurants
The place is in a great location, super close to downtown, very walkable. However the room was not what we had booked, the pictures and room were quite different. the room felt very unsafe, no windows or air flow, and the small skylight was another story from the roof. Overall didnt enjoy our stay.
Did like being transferred to a quieter, larger ensuite room by very thoughtful staff. Hated initially being in the small ensuite opposite one of the main bathrooms with noisy banging doors going late into the night. This is a dud room.
Got refused as id got left behind was allowed to stay had to find alternative accommodation at xtra xspence and trying to get refund was bad didn’t end up receiving my 129$ complete rip off staff where rude unhelpful and disrespectful worst service ever will be takeing this as far as I can to let people know off the worst service ever shame on you
Central location. A good hostel.
Good location, but smells like a locker room and old and drab.
The staff was friendly, and the property was in a good location, and pretty clean for a hostel. The room had a harsh smell (paint/chemical), and was located next to a door for a stairwell. Every time the door closed there was a very loud click. This happened half a dozen times an hour. Knowing how loud that door is, they should have placed a storage room here instead of somewhere someone is supposed to sleep. I had earplugs in, and was still woken up by the loud click.
The receptionist man needs lessons in communication (They had a problem with providing the required passes for car parking .) However we ultimately enjoyed our time there ( though the partitition walls were not acoustic and the fire door from the kitchen shrieked whenever it was used through the night )
We were quite disgusted to see someone else’s hair on our pillows upon check in. The walls are so thin you can clearly hear everything that’s going on around you and the shower I chose was broken. We were told there was free parking but it was a 10 min walk away in the rain with our belongings. We did like that it was close to a lot of bars and dining options though.
Good location
We really enjoy our stay in Urbanz
First time staying and loved the cleanliness and closeness to work. Staff were awesome with all my queries. Definitely will be back for next year's Armageddon.
The only reason I stayed here was because my tour group was meeting there early in the morning of the start date. Otherwise, I would’ve stayed in an actual hotel. I’ve only interacted with the staff at check in, and they were nice. But the cleanliness of the bathrooms was abysmal. The drains in the showers on the mezzanine level were clogged, one of which to the point where the water wasn’t draining at all. There was no soap in any of the bathrooms. Luckily I had Lysol so I sprayed the door knobs of the bathrooms before touching them. If you’re staying here, pay extra to get a private bath. Or pay extra to stay in a nicer hotel.
stayed here a couple times now, it’s in a great location in Christchurch, and the facility is nice, it doesn’t have the super cramped feel of a lot of hostels. If you’re near the kitchen it can get noisy early am but it’s a hostel…Staff had been very helpful as well.
I liked that the bathroom facilities were always clean. It felt homely & cosy. Really enjoyed my stay. Thank you Urbanz
Wouldn't stay here again
Squeaky metal beds, looks like a prison Location was the best part
Very central, helpful staff. Great very clean dining area
Great overal
Great stay, friendly staff, very comfortable.
I am overall happy about my stay and would like to give an objective review of my experience. I like the cleanliness of the rooms, bedlinen and bathroom. The cleaning department does a great job, I reckon. The main issue I had was with the front office staff. I did not meet anyone whom I would see as "friendly, polite or helpful". When I checked in, I was assigned a upper bunk bed without considering my physical conditon, mainly weight and mobility issues. The ladder to the upper bed was too narrow and I found it extremely difficult to climb. This was brought to the attention of Monica and the other guy with long hair at the reception. They chose to laugh and not give a fair solution. This led to a health and safety issue for me as well as the other person sleeping below. Other things were ok, but they need to be friendly and welcoming, and many international visitors complained about this, despite feeling positive about cleanliness and facilities. It is location is also a major benefit. It is just walking distance from most city attractions. Hope the staff issue would be sorted and Urbanz would be a welcoming place for travellers from all regions, countries, ages and walks of life.
It was clean, the kitchen is nice and there's a nice area downstairs to relax. I liked that rooms have a TV and the bedroom was comfy and clean- we even got towels. I have to say though: the shower is very dangerous. I have a huge and very painful bruise on my butt because I slipped over in there.... I'm an RN and I'm telling you to please put something non-slip down or someone is going to break their hip. It's super dangerous. I'm very lucky I didn't break anything. It would also be nice to see some more accessibility for disabled patrons too, you can only get up and down via stairs?
We stayed in the family room with our 4 children for one night and going it was exactly what we needed. It was very clean, ensuite did the job and the dining facilities were perfect. Staff and other guests were respectful of our young children. Thanks!
Friendly stuff
Great Location
Great location in the heart of Christchurch. Close to lots of restaurants, river n tourist spots. Only issue is the double bed is too short. My toes hung off the edge of the bed and i am 5'5. My husband's feet hung off the bed. Other than that, room was clean n tidy, huge kitchen.
Reception advised me it was all fine and access card would be in lock box. I needed to change my card on file as I’m from Australia and now using a travel money card, I called reception 9 times and no one answered. Fast forward to 1:30am, female, alone in the street, open lock box and there was a note saying sorry we couldn’t charge card please call night manager. I had to ask a stranger walking out of the hotel for their phone to call. Called night manager who wasn’t going to come down and help/advised my story wasn’t “adding up” … I advised I’m happy to show the call logs of me trying to contact. He finally came down, was EXTREMELY rude, banging stuff on the desk, asked me to write my mobile down so he could check against the phone records. Only after proving I had tried to call 9 times he then helped me. Don’t stay here if you can avoid.
Family room very run down
Somewhat okay, but I’d rather not again
Decent for one night, but no control over the temperature settings and the staff didn’t enforce the no smoking beside the entry, so asthma attack nearly set in upon entry/exit of the building each time. Mattress and pillows were hostel low-end basic, and the USB power ports in the room didn’t work.
Good spot for one or two nights, very central. super friendly and helpfull staff.
Christchurch
I really like how cosy and well set up the hostel is. It’s right on the Main Street and an easy walk to the CBD or bus station.
Comfortable, quiet stay highly recommend!
Location and view. Far enough away from the noise of Queenstown but close enough to walk to the city center if needed.
No lift..long way to walk not friendly for disabled
Great location
good
Perfect hostel
Clean, tidy, smart, good facilities. Ended up staying 2 extra nights.
Affordable accomodation
Well set up hostel, private rooms are awesome, the place is spotless, perfect location within walking distance from main attractions. Would use the hostel again!
I loved it's location in the CBD. It was so handy.
Was comfortable for the 1 night I stayed
We stayed in a family room (which is right opposite the kitchen??). Noisiest hostel I have ever stayed in. Kitchen is generally dirty and people don’t appear to respect the rules. Room itself was good - great size for us.
The showers were very slippery.. but everything else was all sweet
Good for the price! In a private room but walls a little thin so can be noisy.
Way too hot in the rooms and asked for a parking permit to be saved for second night stay but when got back they had given them all out again. Other than that good
Very good location! For the price it was a very good deal however the private room could be in better shape with a better bed.
Good stay
We had a private room for two nights. The facilities were fine at the hostel although the number of stoves to cook on was not enough given the number of guests. The shower facilities were fine however a shower was facing directly onto our bedroom wall so we were woken by the sound of the shower and anyone in the hallway, albeit the hostel was relatively quiet. Location was fairly good near the Main Street of Christchurch, although not a great deal to do in central Christchurch
We had a private, 4 person room with a shared bathroom. The room and bathroom, and entire facility was spotless and smelled clean. Our room had windows, which we kept open for airflow. We didn’t use the kitchen, but it looked like it had every amenity you would need, although guests need to diva better job cleaning up after themselves. Loved the location walking distance to town!
Well, it's a nice hostel but without any charm. The room are quite small, and kind of noisy (I was on the groundfloor). The kitchen area was not really clean, and the bathroom was just what you need for. However, the staff was very friendly and always happy to help, and the living room/sharing area was really cool. They also have a little terrace where you can enjoy the sun and the location is appreciable.
Staff were very helpful without being intrusive. Kitchen could do with staff monitoring to ensure the minority don't leave it in a constant state of borderline filth which has the potential for disease and rodents.
You can have breakfast there for $6. We had an en-suite room. Walls are thin, you can here your neighbors. Bathroom doesn’t have a shower tub so water is flowing everywhere on the floor. Awesome location, very close to the #29 bus stop from the airport. Everything is walking distance.
I have now stayed at two of the Urban hostels in NZ. I love them. Quiter than YHA or Nomads IMO. The bar is a nice touch, very affordable. Communal areas ate usually quite comfirtable and homey.
Safe close to city centre good value for money Room clean modern
Very clean. Friendly staff. Good location. Didn’t disappoint me at my second stay here this time.
The customer service was great at Urbanz and it had a great location. I was also able to do my laundry without any problems. My only complaint is the the walls are quite thin and the neighbor next door was having a very loud conversation on the phone at like midnight while i was trying to sleep.
Great location, ample room, nice lounge and kitchen area
The afternoon reception girl is so friendly! Lovely girl, and the backpacker is all good.
Great kitchen facilities, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Noise travelled a fair bit from both inside and outside, but aside from that the room was comfortable.
Great location, budget room as expected.
not a fan of the bathroom and lack of showers . room was fine, noisey hallway at night
Good hostel, personal showers, standard bunk beds with basic linens, large dining area, pool table, television, lounge. Great location and parking available (first come first serve).
Most clean hostel I've ever stayed. I will recommend here whoever visits to Christchurch.
Clean and tidy - the room was quite a walk from the stairs and I had quite a few items with me as I was there to play a show. I didn't see a lift.
Great place to stay in the centre of town. I’d definitely stay there again.
will say again
right in city centre , great bed
Great place to stay close to the city centre and bars but also quiet if you want to sleep. It’s clean, comfortable and the staff are really helpful. Small reception bar which is cheap for a few beers. Overall great place to stay and great value.
At the point of check-in, the staff noticed I was alone and said there were 2 other men in the room. He asked if I would like to switch to a Female dorm. I thought that was very kind of him, but I stick to my original booking. Room was clean, big and I particularly love the HUGE locker. Shower rooms facilities were adequate. However, the room was on first floor and near to main door. There was a constant banging of doors and inconsiderate patrons shouting & running along the corridor. There were seats outside the main door and it was annoying with the noise etc..
It was amazing! It was comfortable! They help me get things settled in here in nz!
Santuary
I don't have anything bad to say about my experience at Urbanz on Manchester St., in Christchurch. Booked at the last minute but nothing seemed to be a problem for the friendly staff. In short, excellent stay. Great location. Secure rooms. :)
Small but comfortable
This place is well priced with and in an awesome location with parking. Hard to beat!
Nice and clean
Staff are friendly and helpful.. All public area are very clean.. nice small double room.. Very good hostel... :)
Good stay
Comfy Cosy
About 10 min walk from busport.
Warm, comfortable, modern & spotlessly clean. Probably the best hostel i've stayed at in NZ. The metal bunks didn't even squeak.
Nice hotel though surrounded by construction as of the moment.. clean facilities.. friendly staff.. convenient location.
stay at Urbanz.
Great hostel. very comfortable and clean.
1 night stay
Only stayed one night, but thought the place was really nice and clean. Good location too!
Bedbugs
We paid for a private room and were extremely disappointed. The room was tiny and had no air con. The room was uncomfortably hot and opening the window made no difference. The room was opposite a kitchen meaning there was noise until the early hours of the morning. Additionally the bed had bugs and we woke both woke up covered in bites. They only saving grace was probably the free towels
Very handy and reasonably priced
Close to city centre and New Regent St eateries and bars. Convenient to have large kitchen for meal preparation and cooking. Double room is small but perfectly fine with TV and rrntable locker. Recent heatwave in Christchurch makes you miss a/c but the window opens. Roadworks outside should be finished in another month.

Good eatery street just behinds the hostel.
