This lovely place is conveniently placed for your time in Matamata. We took a Hobbiton tour, enjoyed a St. Patty's Guiness and coffees in town. Friendly manager ( thanks Andy) ensures you have essentials in your clean welcoming room. Love the windows for fresh air and blooming hydrangea in the yard. Retro vibes.

Great spot!

What a great find in Matamata. This small property is well maintained and quite personable. You feel like you are living in a guest house vs a motel. Excellent, starched linens and sparse, but workable furniture. The host is great, allows guests to use their extended back garden play area, and the property sits right on the rails to trails path. Very convenient location for a stopover to Hobbiton. Would stay here again.

A lovely location and tidy room, great host who was lovely to chat to and gave great tips for places to eat, best time to leave to get to my Hobbiton tour etc which was super appreciated! Lovely cats to have a smooch with too! As a solo female traveller I felt completely safe and at ease here and would absolutely stay again.

Wonderful. The owner was great. He was helpful with advice on dinner restaurants and directions for getting to Hobbitton the next day. Loved this place.

clean, pleasant, exactly what you want in a motel

Our room was clean and had all the basics. No view and traffic was noisy.

Staff friendly and helpful. Matamata and the surrounding area is beautiful. Great location to stay when visiting Hobbiton.

Super easy checkin, charming, clean

We LOVED our stay here and Andy was so kind and helpful. The room was comfortable with thoughtful touches like hot chocolate mix and milk in the fridge. Very clean too! The town of Matamata was delightful with great food options, and you can’t beat the proximity to Hobbiton. I wish we would have had one more day just to relax and would like to come back!

We stayed at the Tower Road Motel in Matamata and arrived past check-in time. Andy was super accommodating and very helpful. The motel itself is adorable, clean, and quiet. They provided an informational guide with great tips about nearby areas, which we definitely would have taken advantage of if we had stayed longer. It's only a 15-minute drive to Hobbiton, which was one of the main reasons we chose this place. Overall, we had a lovely experience and would love to stay longer next time.

Our Host was incredibly friendly and helpful. The motel is in a great location for visiting Hobbiton and for exploring the area. Tower Road is wonderful for bicycling and walking!

Quiet area with short distance to restaurants.

My son and I stayed at the Tower Road Motel for one night. The room was really clean and comfortable. It was a quiet place to sleep and easy to get to the sites around Matamata. The owner was really friendly and accommodated our early arrival. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

The host was really friendly, and the room really clean. The property had a large back yard area which was great for kids, and the kitchenette was really useful. Would stay again.

Very nice and quiet place to stay!

What a delightfully retro Motel!!! We loved the location (just outside of town), easy parking in front of our room and plenty of space for our stay. Also, Andy the owner was very welcoming.

Nicely appointed rooms that would be comfortable for more than a night's stay. Liked the opportunity to sit in the small gazebo at the back of the garden. Although out in the country it is situated on a busy road so a lot of traffic noise.

Lovely owners with 2 children that invited my little one to play with them. Easy check in and check out. Very clean and welcoming. Highly recommend.

Clean convenient but some road noise

Tower Rd Motel was a comfortable stay with plenty of room for an affordable price. I stayed due to its 15-20min drive to Hobbiton. Check in/out was easy with friendly staff. A short 2 minute drive into town and you'll find a few good food options around. Would recommend it to anyone passing through Matamata

Outstanding Motel in Charming Town

Very clean and comfortable. Owner/Manager was the most helpful and personable gentleman. Quiet spot on the edge of town. Would highly recommend this motel.

Wonderful accommodation. Comfortable beds & pillows, great kitchen facilities, staff (Andy) was fabulous, and there's even a very polite and friendly on-site cat to greet you when you arrive. Love this place - HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

New Matteresses needed

Reception staff very welcoming. Bed very uncomfortable. In desperate need of new matteresses.

It was away from the noise, clean and the owner was helpful.

It is a basic and slightly quirky little motel. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, the rooms are very clean and the bed was comfy.

Suited our purposes perfectly. A bit close to the road, but not too much road noise.

Andy was the perfect host, very friendly and there to meet us on arrival. The Family Room was clean and comfortable. Very close to town and sights to visit. We really enjoyed our stay here! Maybe just move the kitchen bin a bit so you don't bump your head on the cupboards above it!

Close enough to the town but also far enough away. Relaxed check-in, quiet room but you do hear the traffic on the road. Has all the facilities you need in a room and comfortable beds.

Everything was great - easy to find, helpful and friendly host, clean and well equipped room.

Great stay

Aged but clean and very pleasant to stay at.

The shower water pressure was amazing! It was also nice having a kitchenette. The only downside was it was a bit far from our actual destination (getting the bus for Hobbiton) and there is limited taxi availability… but that was our fault for not knowing.

Family BIG 0 Birthday

Family from all over were meeting in Matamata for a BIG 60th celebration and 3 of our family booked into Tower Rd Motel. I was there first and found the check in process very easy. Our host was most informative and was able to direct us to our venue. She suggested we put the heat pump on as not a lot of sun had hit the room - we were most grateful when we arrived back after the party to have a nice toasty room to sleep in. Had a comfortable sleep and would definitely recommend, would stay again :)

Clean, well kept, basic stay. Sound transfer through the walls was our only negative.

It was great to go into a motel room that is clean and well maintained. It was not huge but it was comfortable. The only small critissm would be the small shower area. Apart from that it was great and would definitely recommend this motel.

Older motel but very tidy and clean. Wifi didn’t work as well as it could. We were furthest away from the office

Host was friendly on check in and had recommendations for dinner. Located on a beautiful stretch of road with excellent walking path along the way. Close to center of town. Room itself was clean and comfortable and in a quiet area.

Far enough from the town centre to be very quiet, but only 5 mins by car to restaurants and fast food. Spacious room recently renovated.

The motel is a great value for money. It's not near anything, though. We stayed overnight to visit Hobbiton the next day and we were happy with the stay.

We had a very pleasant one night stay in a studio unit. They are older but with modern fittings etc - everything was comfortable and the setting is very peaceful and pretty.

It was a nice and cosy stay. The room is well maintained and very clean. Close to town. I would stay here again if I am going out that way.

The staff/owner was incredibly friendly, and the room was squeaky clean and comfortable. We thought in our long trip through New Zealand that this would be a means to an end for a place to sleep before going to Hobbiton, but it was so charming that we found ourselves genuinely enjoying our stay!

Nice location. Quiet but close to Matamata. Walks nearby. Go climb Waiere Falls.

The property had lovely surroundings. Checkin was efficient. It met our needs.

I wish the internet service would have been reliably consistent. Other than this the stay was ok.

Great hotel in nice location

Very nice hotel, affordable and close to town where you board for Hobbiton. The couple that runs this place, Kevin and Tracy are very helpful. Would definitely recommend staying here when you pass through.

Perfect for Hobbiton

We stayed at Tower Road as we were passing through on a visit to Matamata and Hobbiton. The owners were very friendly, allowed us to check in a little early and were very accomodating.

This was a great place to stay, friendly helpful people ,extremely clean Motel in semi rural setting. Older style Motel but with everything you need.

Wonderful stay, staff is friendly, accommodations are very clean! Easy to find.

Had a very comfortable visit. The hosts were great, I had a warm welcome and was able to sleep very well and enjoyed long walks along the walking/cycling trail along Tower Road. It's easy to walk into town and a great location for bicyclists. Next time I'm in Matamata to visit old friends, I'd be delighted to stay here again.

Great little country motel, two spacious rooms, good shower, friendly hosts and they gave me a free short trip to Matamata since the taxi service wasn't running. Very quiet room off the main road so couldn't hear road noise at all.

Friendly and cooperative front desk

Accomodation was basic but suited our needs to break up a long trip . Unit was cleaner than some of the fancier places we’ve stayed at which was impressive . Friendly staff

Nice quiet location a few minutes' drive from the centre of town. Nicely renovated and maintained. Spacious with all you need! Minor inconvenience in that the taps were separate hot and cold water rather than a mixer in our room. Friendly and very helpful and welcoming staff
