Good centrally located hotel 2 blocks from transit and street cars. No frills (microwave, fridge in room)but clean and comfortable and couldn't beat the price!
It was ok until the last day. My room flooded because of person above me. They did not switch my room. Water dropped from ceiling in bathroom all night. The lady at front desk was quite helpful and friendly.
The hotel is very nice for the amount paid. It was clean, the staff was helpful, and everything worked. So completely recommend the hotel if you want a budget option near Union Square. That said, you should know that Union square has become a dirty part of town. I saw feces all over the streets and lots of stores have closed.
Great spot for a solo traveler spending a few nights in the city. Great location with a lot within walking distance
It’s a quiet little place as I booked a small single room. Only thing I would recommend for the property is that they should provide Atleast water bottles in the room.
Good all around
Great value and very well located
The location is superb and you can walk to many of the attractions. The staffs are incredibly helpful and friendly. While the room is a bit small, it is comfortable and quiet. I enjoyed my stay and had very restful sleep during my two nights stay in the hotel.
Nice spot! Would stay again
Clean, quiet, friendly staff
There were bugs in the bathroom, the power plugs were not all working, there was no heater/air conditioning, and no waste basket to throw garbage. Overall disappointing
Good place for sleep if you sleep deep. Old building but well maintained. Reception staff friendly
The place is in a very good location and the owners of hotel are very helpful, peacefull. Let us in the bigger room just because it was empty that day, didint charge of it. Proposed to keep bags so much time as you need before check-in and after check-out! It was also for free. Cheked-in 1 hour before the time. Very polite and gentle people.
Lovely, helpful staff who went out of their way to ensure I had a good stay on my one night layover in San Francisco. My room was lovely and quiet and the only issue I had was that it was very cold as no one had placed the room heater in the room. But otherwise all was great and the staff kindly stored my bag for the day before I returned to the airport. Thank you!
JPM limits options
I decided to prioritize being walking distance to my meetings over a nice hotel and it was JPM week so everything was crazy expensive. However, I’ve stayed in similar older smaller hotels off Union Square before and this was worse for similar priced options. Floor covered in dust bunnies, radiator heat didn’t work first 36 hrs, bed very uncomfortable. I have to give props to team though - 24/7 locked & manned door and most staff quite friendly and helpful. Elevator was functional.
As-expected and good budget option
Room was as-expected. Just the basics with no frills, but looked like the photos and everything in the room was clean. The hallways and stairwells are definitely outdated and have a unique smell, but for a low-cost room in this area, it was sufficient. The staff are incredibly friendly and supportive.
completely old system
Liked the staff there, very friendly
The hotel is in a good area. I was alone and I felt safe. The price was also reasonable. I also liked how approachable and helpful their staff was to me. Shoutout to Ms. Julie and other front officers.
Very clean, staff was
.
Stayed for one night on NYE. Very convenient location near the MUNI station at Union Square. The area was a little bit suspect but overall a great one night stay.
The place was absolutely fantastic. The price was phenomenal, and what you get was more than what you paid for. The room was bare bones but it was structured so well, it's magnificent. I love the quirky sink in the room. It's so San Francisco. The hotel is also so conveniently located, it is hard to find any faults. An easy 8 minute walk to the BART. There are so many food options nearby and union square is a stone throwsaway. However, what really makes this place shine is the staff. Oh my gosh, I had a great time talking and shooting the breeze with Julia and Ronnie. They were such sweethearts, they always make me feel welcomed whenever I come back from romping around the city. I will be staying here as often as I can, whenever I return to this beautiful city! I highly recommend you check this hotel as well!
Good
We felt very welcome and taken care off (we were allowed to check-in early). Everybody is so friendly. We liked the location. No car needed, we walked to the famous spots we had on our list and took public transport (a bus station is nearby). Our room was basic and clean. The attached retro Diner was a plus. Coffee maker was available on request. Great value.
Good hotel. Rooms bit small
The alarm was triggered without smoke. It was noisy. Other than that, everything was good!
A boutique hotel with a deli attached. Juliet is wonderfully helpful.
The rooms are okay, but the hotel is old and dingy. Staff service was okay. I appreciate the fact that they gave me a refund when I decided to move to a better hotel.
Staff is awesome and very helpful. Dinner adjacent has very good breakfast. Older property and very firm and small bed. Room was clean. Overall good choice for the price.
The staff was very polite and helpful
Worst people
I would put zero stars if I could. They kicked us out for no probable reason, finally, my thinking it was because of race . Worst hotel and customer service especially the owner, he should not run this business.
area didn’t feel safe at first, but it ended up not being too bad. the room was really small, but comfortable enough. no fridge or microwave. the floor seemed a little dirty but I just wore socks the whole time. there was a weird dent in the wall above the bed. i was only there to sleep so it was convenient and nice enough. nice staff!
The value for the property and the location is unbeatable. Yes, it’s an older hotel, so as many reviewers have commented, it has a bit of a musty smell in the hallways. The room, however, was clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff is super friendly. If you are looking for great value and a very accessible neighborhood I highly recommend the Touchstone Hotel.
Clean but simple
Quick over night stay for business and don’t want to pay 350 for a room. This hotel was priced right but the old “ get what you pay for” should be taken into consideration. Small room, very firm double bed with basic sheets and cheap mattress. However the place was clean and there were even some toiletries. The shower was quite old and showed its wear. I thought it was dirty at first but realized it was just etching and deterioration. The staff at the desk were kind and pleasant and for a quick night sleep it was fine. If you re looking for luxury, skip this place. It’s basic but clean and adequate.
Good location for tourists. Very slow draining tub and the toilet didn’t always refill itself with water. Staff was very kind.
Good value Comfy beds Good breakfast
This property was great value for the money I paid.
Nice stay
Very nice clean room. The hotel had no cable channels. Bathroom nice. A refrigerator and microwave would be a plus.
Gorgeous place! So beautiful and charming! The staff was so accommodating, and the breakfast was exceptional! would highly recommend!
Hidden gem
We really enjoyed this hotel, mostly because the staff were so kind and helpful, and the beds were so comfortable. It was HOT, and our room was pretty hot but the fan helped. I think I'll be back.
It’s a terrible place for staying, dirty, noisy, no AC.
The location of the hotel is awesome! You can walk anywhere! The staff is so friendly, and the breakfast was my favorite!
The room was small but nice and very clean. The staff especially Juliet was excellent. It was close to union square. The only thing to be wary about is the area at night. I still walked around but it did not feel safe and lots of homeless around. Good for the price.
People!
They took care of me and recommended me amazing places. And its also located in an amazing place.
Amazing and friendly staff , they were amazing.
Good for the cost. Parking was hard to follow, I wish they would let us know how parking works ahead of time.
Great customer service. Especially Martina , from the front desk. Very helpful and so was the full staff
I really liked the room we stayed in. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable !
There was a lot of nocks on walls next room which seems to be service in the morning for the two nights, the room supposed to be double but it’s extremely small, not enough closet space for 2 people, the weirdest thing that the sink is very small that the water spreads out, the shower is okay,
I had unfortunately left an sentimentally important clothing item in my room, hanging up, when i checked out. I returned a few hours later, and whike the staff was kind enough to check for it, the item was gone. I can only assume the employee who cleaned the room threw it away or took it as their own. It's unfortunate you cannot trust people these days.
this hotel surprised me for sure. i was not expecting it to be that clean for a hotel that is so affordable and in the middle of everything touristy-wise. it had a nice sitting area/mirror for me to do my makeup, it was perfect. for the price, its clean and not sketchy.
The front desk was really nice n very helpful
Great stay 😊 Juliet was amazing
The old school flare and decor was inviting and the room was spacious yet cozy. The bed was comfortable. Within walking distance to Union square and lots of dining, shopping and transportation. Later on in our stay we noticed the window latch was not operable. While we notified the staff, unfortunately it was not corrected before we left. Please check your windows and maybe they can change your room if it's an issue.
Walking around the area sies not feel safe
Front desk was unattended at times. That said; we didn’t have a long wait for anything.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Would be great with a little care.
It was a cool hotel but it is a little neglected. The mattress was worn out and uncomfortable and there was not water pressure.
My husband and I stayed here for a few days and it’s a pretty convenient place to stay if you are here to tour around the city. Buses and trains are a walking distance and there’s a bunch of shopping stores around also. We were looking for an affordable place that’s decent enough to stay for a few da and Touch Stone was just that. Gotta shout out to Juliet who had outstanding hospitality service and made our stay worth while and beyond helpful!
Easy walk to shopping, BART, MUNI, and theaters and restaurants.
Service was excellent. The lady at the desk called a taxi for me and held my luggage so i could take the rest of the morning checking out the city before leaving for my flight. Very polite and courteous service.
It was in a very bad area. Lots of homeless people around the building. The shower was impossible to get to stay at any temperture. It was boiling hot or freezing cold every 10 seconds.
I don’t know if there’s anything different I can say from my other reviews. Staying at the touchstone is always a great experience. This time around, I had an economy room, but it was still very comfortable. The staff are always great to deal with and are very helpful, and the rooms are very clean and the beds are super comfortable. I had something to do with the holiday, but there was an awful lot of noise and unsafe activity going on outside of the property. I cannot attribute this to the staff or owners. It is what it is, it’s just how San Francisco is. Still, I would advise folks to ensure that they, be mindful about them when they were walking out onto Geary St., And also to be careful after dark. One amenity I cannot speak about enough is David’s Diner Right next-door. It’s been a staple of mine to go have breakfast in the morning, and the Choice of dishes and quality of the food are second to none.
5 star!
Presence of homeless people around
Always happy to leave a great review for this hidden gem of a hotel. Once again, I had a wonderful experience staying here. The staff are always friendly and helpful The room is super clean and secure, with an extremely comfortable bed. Being directly connected to David’s Diner downstairs is also a bonus, as this restaurant has some really great breakfast offerings. As with many hotels Near Union Square, and beyond in the city, the surrounding areas need a little bit of diligence when traveling as they can be noisy and peppered with homeless activity, but I cannot fault the hotel for any of that. This establishment will continue to be on my list of go to hotels Continue to divide my time between San Francisco and New York.
no phone in room or heater.
Great inexpensive hotel.
The hotel is a bit spartan, but rooms are very clean, and fine for a few nights. The price was excellent, and location off of Union Square is great. WiFi was excellent. No frills, no extra bells and whistles.
Overall, a good experience, had some challenges on sink drainage but figured way out. Service was excellent.

Very comfortable.
The touchstone has become one of my go to hotels for staying in the San Francisco area. The hotel and rooms are clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and it is connected to a great diner with delicious food. Rooms are very comfortable and clean. Only concern, as with most areas near downtown, is the conditions of the surrounding areas with the increased homeless population, and people openly doing drugs. However, the hotel itself is very safe and secure. Pricing is also very attractive, considering what you get for your stay
Good
Had a standard room and was pleasantly surprised. Bed was super comfortable and the room was cozy, and didn’t feel very small. Shower was hot, towels and sheets were super clean, and the staff were very friendly. David’s Diner was attached to the hotel and the food was exceptional. Only issues were that there were some noisy people on the floor and the door took a long time to close so I had to wait for it to latch before leaving to head out.
No cart available for the luggage, no AC, the ceiling fan was dusty, the floor has not been cleaned, limited toilet paper, no facial tissue, hair shampoo made my hair sticky, no complimentary water, bedsheets are old and looks dirty, my allergies attacked due to dust, had poor sleep
Nice place
Staff was accommodating and friendly.
Had an issue checking in; both the manager and receptionist were very patient and helpful. The issue was resolved thanks to the manager's generosity. Building was clean and comfortable, would definitely go back.
I originally intended to vacation San Francisco on a responsible budget, so I chose this hotel for its price, but instead I found a gem hidden in the city that was safe. clean and with a incredibly helpful staff, including the restaurant That I booked an extra week. I would highly recommend anyone staying in the city to choose this hotel, just be aware situation in San Francisco is still recovering from the last three years of shut down so the street crowd might be a little pushy. Overall i’d like to gi thanks to the management and staff for providing a great experience One last thing I am lazy and hate writing, but my time here called for a proper comment. Live well and dine tasty
Will not come back
10 flies in bathroom ceiling, broken mirror over bathroom sink. The towels rubbed off cotton on skin. Sheets in beds are so old and the material itchy and smells so strong so if you have allergies this is not a good alternative. Dead flies on window and crumbs in the bed lining. I will not stay here again.
The staff was super friendly and accommodating, they made my stay a total pleasure. My room had everything I needed for my business trip so I couldn't be happier with it. I'm definitely coming back next time I stay in this area.
Small basic room, cramped sink
Decent cheap choice for a night wouldn’t recommend much longer. Blankets are very thin and so are the walls. Heard my neighbors entire bathroom episode, so be prepared for no privacy. Pretty clean and the inside of the hotel feels safe. No hand soap. Super friendly front desk.
Will definitely stay here again!
Very comfortable stay and an excellent price given the location. The room was clean and much larger than the reviews implied. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Short walk to the convention center. Nice staff. Restaurant connected to the restaurant not open for breakfast two of the three mornings of the conference. No cups for water in room. TV did not work until corrected the next day. The bed was hard (Not "comfy"). Sufficient for what was needed, but overall not a place I would recommend.
Everything was ok for the price. I expected the shower to be somewhat bigger. One person could hardly fit in the shower. The building is old but still standing. Everything else also old.
Good
Do not stay here. The walls and floors are dirty and it lacks basic necessities like water glasses or a garbage can. The TV channels are very limited and the bed is extremely uncomfortable. The area is filled with homeless people and you can hear people screaming and loud trucks if you leave the windows open. Overpriced for what it is. There are much nicer areas of the city to stay.
Close to city center. Within walking distance to amenities.
Slow internet, forget about streaming something, impossible, slowest elevator I’ve ever used, in the room you hear all the noise from other rooms, hot water fails and all the infrastructure is very old. Only good points are staff that is very kind and helpful, the location also is very good. Stayed for a week, btw.
Nice staff. Decent (if small) rooms. Area is central but a little rough. Good value for money.
The price and location was good but the area has gotten rougher after the pandemic. Especially after hours. The hallways were also pretty dark and stuffy.
It was a decent place to stay for a good price compared to other hotels in the area. Not really any amenities but it was clean and they had a very nice staff . If your worried about homeless people they are literally everywhere no matter where you Stay so just pick your poison lol
The area is a bit down and out. The hotel has no air conditioning or screens. Street noise. But staff is kind, beds simple but comfortable and everything clean.
The staff is great … will come back again.
Overall is what we call cozy. very small. The area felt a bit unsafe just waking out around the building.
A comfy and friendly place to stay
The staff was all very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and neat. For rooms that were facing the street, you should expect some noise from the window.

Great for the value and amazing staff, especially Julieta! The diner was nice too!
