The hotel is very nice and in a good location! I would describe the staff as efficient but not overly friendly and it was disappointing there were no doorman to assist with bags etc. The restaurant was really good and here our server really was super friendly and our dinner was most enjoyable. Our room was clean, comfortable and well appointed with great WiFi.

A great place to stay!!

This was an amazing place. They gave us a small attic room with 2 beds. My son greatly appreciated his own space. The room was immaculately clean. The hotel has a convenient seating area in the lobby with cell phone charging stations and free coffee, croissants and apples in the morning. We greatly appreciated the charging station as we did not have compatible Swiss plugs. We were a solid 20 mins walk from the old center but it was a lovely and easy walk. Great neighborhood and hotel grounds. We parked in their own underground parking garage. The staff were all very kind and helpful. Beautiful older building that has been wonderfully renovated without losing its charm.

This was a beautiful old building. The check in was easy, the gentleman at reception was very nice. The hotel was very clean and the room was nice. The main disappointment was no air conditioning or a fridge. The breakfast was in the next building close to where you got off the elevator. It is all downhill to the city centre (up on the way home). You get free wifi in hotel and at hotspots throughout Basil.

Lot of space Great garden

We reserved these rooms because of the included buffet breakfast (they wanted to charge us 50% for the VIP included breakfast). It also included an extra 2 hours which we couldn't use. The other reason we reserved these rooms was for the convenience of a restaurant and bar. They are in the process of building a restaurant so there was only breakfast available. There is no bar, no ice. We ran out of soap in the shower on the first day. On the second day, I had to call housekeeping for more. They brought it up but would not install it until the third day.

Staff was helpful. The hotel was clean, quiet, and in an ideal location not far off from the city center. The room was cozy and had city views. Will definitely stay here again.

Good experience. The rooms are small, but I like a building with some history and I can see that it is under renovation. I was missing a gym and the breakfast was under a temporary building, but super friendly staff and good service.

Location, just outside the old town, was very convenient for getting around. The staff was super helpful in telling us how to get places, even made a dinner reservation for us. The room was large and comfortable.

They have a delicious breakfast with lots of variety. Large lobby to relax and upstairs is a room with complimentary coffee/ tea. Comfy chairs, a sofa, table to play cards and a computer desk. Rooms have a tv, comfy beds, free wifi. No a/c bit it was fine with the provided fan and window open. They provide umbrellas and gave us a complmentary bus/ tram card which takes you all over town! Can walk to tram stop. Would stay here again.

The property location was great. It did not have any a/c in the rooms. Very noisy with the construction and the garden was overgrown. The staff was great. I requested early arrival, but they could not accommodate us.

Good location in a pleasant private park although it seems they are undergoing renovations so a little noisy early in the morning. Efficient check in however not very forthcoming with information nor particularly helpful considering I have mobility issues. The breakfast staff were very kind and helpful. Good selection of breakfast options.

Proximity to old town However, the room could have done better with a refrigerator

Our main criteria for booking this hotel were car parking facilities close to the centre. There were only 6 car parking spaces for the whole hotel which were full when we arrived so ended up in the public car park 20 minutes walk away costing 20SF. Not very happy. Room itself was nicely appointed, clean and modern and close to the city centre. The building itself is old and the corridors had a distinct institutional smell - sounds odd but that’s just the way it came across.

Nice hotel with good sized room. Staff was friendly and very helpful offering recommendations for restaurants and things to see. Travel pass grounded and teams were included with half price museum entry fees.

Property location was perfect. Steps away from the tram which took either 3 or 4 stops from Old Town, Basel. Clean and bright!

Lovely people. Rooms are basic but comfortable. Nice bathrooms. Didn't like the hallway noise or the twin beds in my double room. The gym was closed; they offered use of an outside one nearby but; that gym closed at 6pm. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choices, including soya milk for the cereals

Very close to the Old Town in Basel. Walking distance with many restaurants, great shopping. Had a car rental and it was easy to get around and find parking to visit the other cities not far from Basel.

Very clean spacious and bright rooms, family room is two single mattress beds pushed together and a pull out sofa which wasn’t the most comfortable. Staff were outstanding particularly Beatrice . Breakfast was tasty however could do with more hot options

Very central to old city. No air conditioning

Due to hot weather we had to open windows at night and found it noisey. Had to put open suitcases on the floor as no surfaces on which to put them.

Great hotel

The hotel was wonderfully clean and the staff was very helpful. The only thing we ran into was a heat spell that arrived with us and there is no air conditioning in the hotel. The staff was kind enough to provide us with two fans and the room cooled off at night for us to sleep. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast in the restaurant every day.

We had a brief yet lovely stay at the hotel. Rooms were top quality and staff was very freindky and helpful. We loved our short stay in Basel at the Hotel !

upon arrival, spouse tried to carry suitcases UP THE STEPS and started to bumble backwards. upon (04:30 AM = dark) departure, spouse missed the bottom step and fell to the ground. It was the day after Christmas, and not many restaurants were available.

Nice hotel and easy to travel

This hotel is very spacious and clean. And also provided necessary things except kettle. The location is good and easy to travel to the city and they were providing free local travel as well. A very cool and calm area.

Stayed for 3 nights in a standard double room with breakfast. Spotlessly clean rooms. Friendly staff. Delicious breakfast. Great location, barely 5 minutes on the tram to get into the city. Free public transport included for staying at the hotel. 15 minute bus journey from airport. Overall great stay. Couldn't fault anything.

Pleasant, quiet, nothing special about decor. Breakfast choices were excellent in a well-designed restaurant. Room had no safety bar in the shower and no safety mat on the floor. Wake-up call came 15 minutes late, for which there was no excuse. Chairs were functional, not comfortable. Most critical was no one to help with the luggage.

Disappointing

Staff was Not very helpful,forgot to tell us about wifi. Room service was the front desk attendant so had to be picked up, no air conditioning originally, then moved to an attic room with air. Room was clean and had a nice soaking tub, minimal furniture, no hairdryer in room. No coffee, needed 3.50 f to buy a cup self service in the lobby machine. Hotel restaurant only open for breakfast and lunch. Overall was disappointed because it was rated as a four star.

Good breakfast & beautiful garden. Bath room is very well equipped. Room for two has only a full size bed, we prefer two twin beds. TV has no English language program is a big drawback.

Perfect stay, would definitely stay again!

This hotel is a perfect gem in Basel. It is just a few tram stops away from the main restaurant/bar streets in the old city and is very convenient. The staff, from the moment we checked in until the moment we left were very attentive and understanding. The room was very spacious, spotless and had many different amenities. Perfect for a family with children. WiFi was great and parking was also very convenient inside the hotel premises. We even had an "incident" during our stay where our son felt really sick during the night and, as a result, left some traces of his sickness throughout the room. While we tried to clean up a little ourselves, they have not charged any extra cleaning costs and demonstrated to us that they were extremely understanding and helpful. All in all, a fantastic service, a beautiful property, very convenient and with a team that makes you feel welcomed and valued as a guest. What else could you ask for? Cannot wait to return to Basel and arrange another stay at Hotel Bildungszentrum 21. I highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely historic hotel in the middle of Basel

We were excited to stay in this very historic hotel! The Basel Mission sent missionaries to China, which in turn sent Chinese missionaries to Hawaii where we are from. The building is very well kept and comfortable. We enjoyed the suite on the 5th floor and the Samowar room on the 4th floor where we could get coffee & teas. The internet connections were very good and the location of the hotel is very convenient. Everything was very clean and fresh with lots of hot water for showers. To get to our seminar room in the -1 level, you have to first press "-" then "1".

Great location and classy design

Very easy transfer from airport via bus 50 to Kannonfeldplatz then tram 1 to Burgfeldplatz then tram 3 to Pilgerstrasse. Walkable into the old city of Basel and their Christmas markets. The travel pass is great and gives free travel. Don't forget the city tax payable at the end of your stay.

Lovely hotel

Wonderful hotel with comfy rooms and a really nice bed. It is located perfectly in the city and is walking distance to all the great spots!

Excellent hotel in quiet location

Hotel Bildungszentrum 21 is very easy to find. Just a 5 minute walk from the #50 bus stop which runs to/from the airport. Set off the main road, it is a wonderful old building on the outside, but very modern inside. On arrival the staff were warm and friendly, with a quick check-in and a little advise on getting around Basel too. The room we booked was for 3 people, so with the additional bed, it was a little tight for space, but only a minor point on an otherwise excellent, clean and comfortable room. Bathroom was clean and tidy and all the facilities you would expect. One of the nice features of the hotel was a room set aside for relaxing with tea and coffee facilities; great to meet up with other who were staying here too rather than all cramming into a single room. Check-out was again excellent and I will be staying here again if I find my travels take me to Basel.

Character and more..

The hotel/building has a lot of character. One floor has a missionary organization and it appeared that the U of Basel had seminars and/or workshops going on. All making it somewhat of a community experience.

Affordable and Cheerful stay in Basel

I am so glad to stay at B21 ! the location of the hotel is fantastic! it is right next to the city with 2 mins walking distance yet it is very quiet. I enjoyed the most is the pantry where provide you 24 hours access of tea and coffee, yet a relaxing room for sitting down to chat to the residence ! The layout of the hotel is like university residence. It reminds my uni time. Oh !!! dont forget the lovely gym facilities which is putting a star on top of the staying!

It was between OK and kind of good...

I was there for business. I got a great rate for a hotel which is normally out of the expenditure limit. I think I slept in one of the Besenkammers.)) It was OK. I really have no complaints, but I've stayed at better, more centrally located hotels in Basel. This is not far from the city center, but not in the center. It is very close to the University, and there are enough things within walking distance. There was a provisional train stop (not recognized by google maps) very close to the hotel. Otherwise, it's just a few minutes by foot to the Spalentor.

my partner and I stayed in this hotel for 1night. staff a little slow at check in, seemed to be so laid back they would drop off. room when eventually booked in was on the 5th floor. lifts only go to the 4th floor. a little staircase to climb but the room was so spacious. spotless and had a roof top decked area. tea and great coffee making facilities on the 4th floor. parking is in hotel grounds

Unusual but excellent hotel

The hotel is situated in part of Mission 21's building (a charity). So there's also other stuff going off there during the day which has nothing to do with the hotel. (But note this doesn't detract from one's stay). It actually makes it more interesting and it seems to have a special atmosphere with a lot of positive people milling about. The rooms are very modern and well equipped. The staff are great and the breakfasts very good.

a haven of peace in central Basel

Finding a hotel during ArtBasel isn't easy. We knew nothing about this hotel and were totally taken in by the beautiful and peaceful surroundings, of this hotel that is part of missionary complex belonging to one of Basel's churches. It is five minutes walk from the Old town of Base. The staff is very helpful , the breakfast is delicious and varied and lawn chairs in the garden lovely to relax in!

Close to Universtiy and old town center

Hotel is nice, staff very friendly. Rooms clean, but slightly too small. Breakfast is acceptable, but borring. Located close to university and not far from the old town center, it is also easily accessable by the public transport. I would suggest it for short business visits.

Clean & Basic

Impressive building in quiet location very near the University. That said, the rooms are quite basic - a bit like good student accomodation. Little touches are missing like bathroom toiletries and a decent pillow but it's clean and friendly.

Great hotel - beautiful building

I recently stayed here for a business trip; great hotel but only had one pillow...no extra ones in the wardrobe either. I'm sure I would have received an extra one if I asked but it was late and I was just getting into bed when I noticed. Staff extremely friendly & helpful. Beautiful building.

In the University Area

This hotel is not in the center of things -- it is a bit out of the way -- but with the transit passes which visitors receive free of charge, you can take a tram anywhere you desire to go. If you are doing something at the University, this is a good location. The rooms are a good size but extremely spartan. The pillows are the most skimpy i have ever experienced. They have an excellent breakfast which is usually part of the room charge. They also have a few pieces of equipment for working out.

Good hotel for the price

You get decent value at this modest hotel: the breakfast is good, and you get a day pass on all the public transportation when you check in. That being said, the rooms are modest, there was a small pillow on the bed, few amenities, but you do get a bottle of water! All in all not a bad place to stay for the price. Friendly helpful staff.

Good ambience in a garden setting

Great Older Style hotel in former Mission building in a garden setting. Rooms well appointed and very comfortable for the single traveller. Good location on a tram route about 200m from a bus route to the Swiss Station. Very close to the older part of town and close to lots of eating options. Slightly on the expensive side by comparison but then Switzerland is expensive full stop!!

the overall athmosphere of the hotel is lovely and there is a pretty garden. sadly there are some major structural problems - there is not adequate insulation between the rooms and between the floors. this means there is no chance of rest before late at night and one is woken up at the crack of dawn by what seems to be a herd of elefants. the option to live on the top floor oneself is not suitable in the summer - since this is the attic and too hot. no minibar or fridge in the room, and more importantly there is not a singel drawer or shelve for cloths - apart fro the one and ahalf above the small hanging space. a serious inconvenience is the situation of power points. . the free wifi is convenient and easy to use but the only plug is under the desk - one part of a 3way - so not suitable for a foreign plug converter and too inconvenient for the short leads of the fan and hairdryer provided. there are small thoughtful touches like free tea and coffee in some centrally located sitting rooms and the staff were very accommodating and friendly, with the exeption of the head housekeeper, who dealt with a small complaint very arrogantly and does not seem to understand the concept of apologising for any inconvenience. on check out she accused us of taking the hairdryer, after not seeing it left in the back of the cupboard. no apology either, so a sad taste to what could have been a nice stay in spite of the shortcomings.

despite the central location of the hotel it was quiet and relaxing

Much more than expected

Extremely clean, well-mainained hotel. Hard wood floors so there wasn't a dust mite anywhere. Very pleasently discovered that a tram pass for the arrival and departure day was included in the price (we only stayed one night.) Breakfast buffet was very complete with a large selection of sandwich meats, cereals, 4-minute eggs, cheeses. Several coffee machines. (There was more at the breakfast but I don't recall exactly what.) There was also a discount at the fair trade shop that also seemed to be associated with the adjacent mission. The desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful. She didn't just hand over an iron when requested, she inspected to make sure it was in top working order (& I don't think it was because she expected it to not work - she just wanted to be sure she gave good service.) To get to the hotel you take an easy tram-ride from the SBB train station and then walk a block to the hotel.

L’hôtel dispose d’un parking couvert, il est situé au calme dans un jardin à proximité du centre-ville ce qui permet de s’y rendre à pied. Le restaurant propose un très bon petit-déjeuner dans un bâtiment moderne, vitré et donnant sur le jardin. L’endroit est très agréable.

Excellente surprise

Ce n'ique pour une nuit, mais c'était vraiment bien. L'hôtel est très propre et bien entretenu malgré l'âge du très joli immeuble. La salle de restaurant/ petit déjeuner était très propre et bien décorée. Le petit déjeuner était excellent. Franchement, c'est très bien. Tout proche de l'entrée du centre historique. Le seul bémol était que j'avais du mal à trouver l'entrée de l'hôtel, il faisait nuit et l'affiche vers la cour est très discrète. Fortement recommandé

Der Aufenthalt war im grossen und ganzen sehr gut, störend war, dass man vom Schall schlecht isoliert ist, holpernde Kinder in den Zimmern, Gaschwätzen auf dem Flur waren reicht störend.

Komme wieder.

Ich habe mich rundum wohlgefühlt. Vor allem das Servicepersonal war ausgesprochen freundlich und flink. Genossen habe ich auch den wundervollen Garten und das feine Essen.
