Best experience in NZ

This was one of the best experiences we had in NZ, thus far! We wish we could stay there for more than 1 night. It's more like being in a very modern and very new and upscale B&B, where every detail counts. It is owned by a couple who love the area and the location. The home is located in a beautiful and large "dessert garden" with its own pond and based only on native NZ plants and trees. The rooms are spacious and fully equipped, with a very healthy breakfast, stored to be eaten in the room. The host (proud honor) explained all our needs in and out of the place and gave us excellent information about the area, restaurants, other tourist facilities, etc. If you plan to stay there, consider at least 2 nights.

Awesome View!!

Room was Awesome!! Fortunately we had good weather and the Mountain View out our back sliding glass door was fantastic!! Room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was in the room so you had the convenience of serving yourself when you wanted. It was simple fare, but it was satisfactory for us. Host was very gracious and had some tips for the area. Would definitely stay there again!

Unfortunately the weather was against us otherwise the surroundings would have been great, so much mist we couldn’t see Mount Ruapehu! Property is clean and comfortable and hosts were really helpful. Breakfast slightly disappointing. Would recommend.

Comfortable and spacious

The room was clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. Very comfortable indeed. The owner is friendly and helpful. However, there is no shop or restaurant nearby. Not a convenient location.

Best home away from home

My husband and I LOVEDDD this place. Elspeth (the host that greeted us) was so welcoming and helpful in explaining about the space and what’s around. It feels like she was welcoming us to her home to stay! We had one of the best stays here while road tripping around the North Island. The best sleep everrr and the best view of Mt Ruapehu the moment we woke up; the snow-capped mountains against the blue sky, it was totally idyllic. A tray of breakfast, microwave, toaster, hot water shower, clean toilet, clean beds, fast internet and Netflix; what more can you ask for a somewhat mountainous winter getaway? The only concerns we had was the slightly dirty hot water kettle (probably overused), slightly leaky toilet bowl, and the location of this place. But no biggie! They aren’t deal killers. Arrive at this place before dark k! And it’s about 20-40mins to the next towns (Ohakune and Whakapapa). But still quite convenient, we did 1 day at the slopes on the Ohakune side of Mt Ruapehu, and the next day, on the Whakapapa side.

The space, the view, breakfast and the staff were awesome. Will be staying here on our next trip to the ski fields.

WoW !! This was a nice place

Incredible place . Warm welcome by the owner. Everything was clean and convenient. I did love the fact that it is fully eco friendly. It was quiet and super well equipped. The breakfast provided was amazing. One of the best place Istayed in New Zealand

Super friendly and helpful host/owner who had thought of everything to make our stay the best it could be. From the homemade bath salts, candles and gorgeous bathroom to the delicious in-room breakfast consisting of a fabulous homemade muesli, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, fresh bread and fresh coffee. The bed was extremely comfortable and the suite had a nice deck looking out to a beautifully landscaped wetlands. Would not hesitate to recommend these suites to anyone visiting the area.

Lovely Place, Super Views

Lovely room and views, great hosts. We stayed in the Executive (Tongariro) Suite which was very comfortable and included a gas fire with great views to Mt Ruapehu. The large patio with table and chairs by the pond for breakfast was great and there were a couple of lounge chairs for relaxing in the afternoon. The shard deck was a great sun trap and included sunlounges, a hot tub and a BBQ. I would recommend staying here, we loved it

We had the most wonderful stay! Beautiful scenery, amazing amenities, privacy and a luxurious feel. Could not recommend this place highly enough and would definitely stay again!

Loved the quiet location. The room was excellent and our private patio had a fantastic view of Mt Ruapehu. We felt so relaxed and had a long soak in the Canadian cedar hot tub. The next morning was glorious, not a cloud in the sky, we started the day with a fresh continental breakfast. Would have loved to stay another day and would definitely come back. Carel our host was very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Great experience to remember.

Nice place and comfortable, expensive but has everything you need.

Very Well Kept Cozy Room

We stayed for 3 nights and it was bliss. The staff were lovely, whenever we went out, they came in and tidied everything immaculately, refilled everything. The view of the mountain was amazing, and the scenery was wonderful.

Quick stop on my road trip home

A fantastic and opportunistic stop while driving back home from Wellington - a lovely, clean and spacious room, with so many treats to enjoy. We'll be back en masse to enjoy properly!

No superlative too strong: this is a wonderful, beautiful and amazing place to stay! The owners and managers Carel and Elsbeth have literally created an oasis and an ecological love story! Impressive accomplishment from concept to smallest detail. My highest recommendation!

Absolute beauty!

Excellent host. The venue is amazing, we will definitely be staying here again in the future. Big comfy bed, outside hot tub, such an amazing view to wake up to in the morning to enjoy the provided continental breakfast.

Perfect place

The only thing is you could easily just drive by the turn off. Look for small B&B blue and white sign off the main road. Google maps gets you there easily. This place was excellent in everyway. Great host! A wealth of information. He can book your shuttle to theTongariro crossing if you wish. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful and breakfast is delicious and in your room the night before so super convenient since the early morning drive to the volcano. We couldn't ask for anymore. Great value overall.

A gem of place

From the moment we arrived we loved the place. The staff at the hotel cannot do enough for you from providing a locally sourced breakfast which you can enjoy at your leisure in your room to suggestions on places to visit nearby. The room was spacious, immaculately clean and so very comfortable with lots of extra touches. The views were breathtaking and could even be enjoyed from the bath through a one way screen. My only regret is that we had stayed for more than one night!

Wonderful and friendly

Wonderful place to stay. We were only there one night but wished we had stayed longer. Owners are warm and welcoming and have a beautiful spot. Bed was incredibly comfortable!

Great night

Stayed here one night. Great spacious room. A little out of the way where we were going but worth it. Private rooms with your own patio. Fresh coffee provided. Bean bags comfortable chairs out in the courtyard for some star gazing. Soft and comfortable bedding. Hosts were lovely. Smart tv for some Netflix. Everything was immaculate. Would love to go back and stay longer. The only thing I would suggest is blackout curtains for the morning sun.

Amazing place & owner!

Truly one of our most favorite stays, the world over. Owner made great recommendations, and the place is new and immaculate. Added touches in the room make a difference- heated mattress pad, in room breakfast, warm blankets to sit outside with. Loved it!

Fabulous hotel in nature

Loved meeting one of the owners and learning about how they built the hotel. Only negative point was being able to hear everything outside our door and in the lobby in the morning but that didn't detract from overall experience. Room was beautiful and modern, hotel was lovely, hot tub was a real treat and the views were fabulous. We received a restaurant rec from the owner when we arrived and he even made the res for us. Would def stay here again!

Great place

I have stayed here before and was so happy and impressed with the service it is certainly become my favourite place to stay on the Central Plateau. A warm welcome, describe service coupled with a lovely location and thoughtful physical building. I would not hesitate to receommend the hotel to anyone.

Modern lodge with splendid view and comfort

We loved this facility and its beautiful pond and view of the vulcano. We enjoyed the continental breakfast which was available in the room, it was plenty and gave the freedom to have it and leave whenever you wanted to.

Home from home

A lovely place to stay. The rooms are fantastically decorated and very clean. There is a decking area outside each room so you can sit and relax, taking in the views. The owner was very helpful, letting us know some great tips of what to do in the area. Only regret is staying one night, I wish we had longer.

Superb B+B in Tongariro region

This was a great place to stay in the Tongariro region. Very relaxing!

A great place to relax especially after being caught up in the earthquake, everything about this place was excellent even though the weather let us down. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Elsbeth and Carel are amazing. They make you feel like at home. They treat you as you are from their own family. And they are excellent guides for the trekkings and the Tongariro Park in general. If you plan to visit the amazing Tongariro National Park, don't hesitate and stay in the Rocks. Thanks a lot to both
