Beautiful heritage house. Honest, funny host. Good breakfast. Good location. Surprisingly quiet.
Brian emailed us beforehand wanting asking us our arrival time and if we had any dietary restrictions. When we arrived the house was warm and inviting. Our room was ready and everything was very clean and Brian was very welcoming. The breakfasts were amazing and we were delighted each morning with the quality of the food! Brian talked to us at length about fun things to do and great places to eat and really made our trip enjoyable. We would recommend ThistleDown house to everyone we know!
Beautiful!
The house is beautiful and the breakfast was delicious. Brian and his wife so a great job informing guests and helping with anything information you need about the area. Would go back again.
Enjoyed our night at this lovely property. Room excellent, as was breakfast.
Great b&b
Definitely one of the best places we've ever stayed in. Sets the standard for hospitality.
Great B & B
Wonderful B & B with excellent service and great breakfasts. Location close to city bus service stop if you don’t have a vehicle. Will definitely stay here again if we are in Vancouver area.
Great Place, Great Hosts!
This is a great B&B with a true gourmet breakfast. Wonderful hosts, very welcoming and helpful with recommendations.
Best stay in North Vancouver
This place is a hidden gem. Every aspect is above my expectation. It might seem to be pricey, but after factoring in everything, it's definitely a steal.
Excellent breakfast and hospitality. House uniquely furnished for comfort.
Beautifully appointed, delicious breakfast, lovely garden, owners and staff very friendly
The best there ever was!
ThistleDown House should be a destination in itself! I will spend the rest of my life making an effort to go back there. It was perfect in every way--a beautifully maintained historical home with every detail attended to. I loved my stay here. I wish it would have been longer!
The gourmet breakfasts were outstanding. Brian and Virginia were engaging hosts.
Awesome B&B
An amazing B&B...the owner was awesome...My wife had some food requests and he happily met those. We would stay there in a heart beat..
Lovely place! Quiet and accessible location. Beautiful grounds. Friendly staff.
Great B&B
We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay immensely. The breakfast served each morning came in 3 courses and with conversations with other guests you can expect it to last about 90 minutes. Great amenities and snacks and we found a nice little deli just down the road for dinner one night. Brought food back and sat out in the garden and enjoyed the cool evening. Room was comfortable with a large bed. This is definitely on our list to return to.
**FANTASTIC** there is nothing negative to mention about the experience. 3-course breakfast was absolutely amazing!
Great location, excellent gourmet breakfast, kind, polite staff.
Best B&B ever!
Absolutely loved this B&B, would highly recommend it.
Beautiful B and B. Owners very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast outstanding! Will return if ever in the neighborhood again!
We want to thank Brian, his wife Virginia and the staff for a wonderful stay! My husband and I were visiting from Oregon and came to complete the "Grouse Grind". Our experiences staying in a B&B have always been positive and we appreciate the intimacy which is provided in a bed and breakfast. The house and property is an oasis off a busy street, but the location is great because it's close to everything. Aside from completing the hike to the top of Grouse Mountain only minutes away, our stay was relaxing and really enjoyable. Thank you for making our stay memorable!
Best choice for Vancouver
Excellent location and the owners were over the top with every detail and our accomadations..highly recommend without reservation.
Wonderful place to stay near Capilano Canyon
This is what everyone hopes a bed and breakfast will be. Friendly, comfortable, clean, beautifully kept and and an amazing breakfast. We have stayed several times, and Thistledown is consistently the same.
Great 3 night say
Fantastic food. Fantastic area. Fantastic service.
Perfect getaway
Great location. The room was nice, but no A/C. To get air in the room you open windows on busy street. Bathroom windows open i full view of neighbors.
The gourmet 3 coarse breakfast is fantastic
I love the place. The service is good and the gourmet 3 coarse breakfast is fantastic. It is 2 blocks from the suspension bridge and 2 miles from Grouse mountain.
We loved everything about our experience at this cute bed and breakfast! The gardens outside are amazing and the breakfast was incredible! It is located right by the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and down the road from Grouse Mountain. We will definitely stay here again when we go to Vancouver.
Relaxing B&B
Perfect!
Thistledown house is a treasure! We loved everything about it from the location, the warm & friendly hosts, our magnificently cozy room and the phenomenal food!! This 1920’s home is beautifully furnished and we loved the soft accent lighting & the ambiance. We had a fireplace in our room, a jacuzzi tub & a door that opened off the room into a beautiful lush secluded courtyard. We just returned today & want to go back as soon as we can. Capilano Suspension Bridge is a few minutes away. We highly recommend staying at Thistledown. It’s a must!!
Luxe boutique hotel in gracious house
The hotel is small but it has many shared living spaces, generous self serve coffee and treats bar and the best breakfast bar none. The manager and staff were very profesional and highly trained and they made our stay such a pleasure. The location was exellent - a few mins drive out of the city, a walk to Capilano Bridge and to the national park and the ski fields are a few mins drive away. My wife was surprised that they knew it was her birthday and our desire for a quiet breakfast was easily acommodated. Everything about the facilities and the room was of the highest quality and we will definitely be going back!
Outstanding Bed and Breakfast!
I really enjoyed my stay at the Thistledown House during my recent Vancouver visit. They were extremely kind people and the accommodations were quite nice! They are just minutes away from skiing on Grouse Mountain. I will certainly consider rebooking should I return to Vancouver in the future.
Very Comfortable B&B in North Vancouver
Thistledown House is a beautifully maintained 1920's house, with lovely gardens. The rooms are very comfortable, as are the well furnished public areas. The three-course breakfasts were without fail innovative and delicious. The hosts are very welcoming, interesting, and attentive. The B&B is in a lovely section of town, near beautiful wooded parks and the Grouse Mountain Ski area, as well as being in walking distance of excellent restaurants and other services. Our three-day stay was wonderful and relaxing.
Great hotel, nice stay
Amazing stay, we really loved it!
Under the apple tree
Very nice room with a comfortable home feel. Brian and his wife do a very nice job. The location is great to get to Grouse Mountain and lots of other trails.
Quaint and homely
We loved our 3 night stay. It felt so homely, we struggled to leave to see the sights of Vancouver. Brian and Virginia were amazing hosts and the breakfasts were delicious. Thanks for having us, we’ll be back.
Perfect Escape
Simply AMAZING overnight experience! Breakfast was stunningly good!
Our Snuggery Stay
Our host Liv was friendly, welcoming and thorough in giving us a few tips as to some of the complimentary soft and juice drinks, know the coffee maker worked and where we could store a few things overnight in a small cooler. Our one night stay at Thistledown was very clean, decorated tastefully, and to our surprise the room even came with two white terry cloth bathrobes and matching slippers. The bed was very comfortable and found us soon fast asleep. Thistledown was conveniently located off of Capilano Road, just a stone’s throw from the Capilano Suspension Bridge and just a short drive north of Trans Canada Highway 1. Just outside our room was a natural lighted corridor with splashes of flowers in large pots and two high-backed chairs where one might easily get engrossed in a good book. . Continuing out this airy room led you to the enchanting backyard where one could leisurely sip a beverage, dream or relax on one of the two Chaise lounges or easy chairs, all the while being surrounded by fragrant flowers, shrubbery and tall evergreens. Our only wish with our stay was that our “Snuggery” room had more space. The bathroom small and the closet could possibly hold two smaller suitcases but a large check-in suitcase like mine had to hold its breath. It’s worth your look.
fantastic character home with matching hospitality
Our family of four stayed in two rooms for two nights. The rooms were stunning - tastefully and beautifully decorated with eclectic furniture and antiques that complimented the period features of the house. The beds were large and comfortable and the amenities in the room lent a real sense of luxury to our experience whilst staying here. The garden provided a wonderful outdoor space in which to relax after a day out with a wide choice of seating areas and interesting flora and fauna. At breakfast the three course menu was both creative and very tasty drawing on cuisine from around the country and the world. Everything we had was delicious. We loved the little bespoke menus produced each day food! However, despite the quality of the food and the stunning house itself, it was Liz, Brian and Virginia who made our stay. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were treated as if we were one of the family. It was great to be able just to talk as though we had known each other for years and whatever we asked for, nothing was ever too much trouble. It was this personal touch that really made our stay special and set this apart from anywhere we have ever stayed before. Thank you so much for making our first trip to Canada so memorable!
Close to Capilano River Park
We received a warm welcome on arrival. They set us up with a reservation for dinner at The Canyon in Edgemont and showed me were I could do a 5km run. At the Capilano River Park I ran by a hatchery, over dam and along many trails through the scenic rain forest. The Capilano bridge is nearby, but this park is for the public and free.
Great room walk to Capilano Bridges
Everything was better than expected, everyone was very nice and we felt very welcome, beautiful room
Lovely B&B
What a beautiful house! Very nicely decorated with care and a beautiful touch. Staff is also very nice and inviting. Breakfast was so good and we had a very good time with the people we met at the table. I would go back in an instant and would totally recommend the place. The only thing for us in the "Memories" room was the comfort of the mattress. It's starting to sink in the middle.
Fabulous
Was wonderful. Liz was very welcoming and a gracious host. Beautiful location and close to everything.
Great location for a West or North Vancouver visit
We had a lovely stay. The house is wonderful and so is the yard with it's lounge chairs and shade. We bought a half bottle of wine from their selection and enjoyed a quiet afternoon. The food was exceptional. The breakfast menu was inspired and the execution excellent.
Common home but great service making it a true B&B
Incredible service and breakfast. It is not an expensive home that was converted to the bed and breakfast. But, the service and cleaness overshadowed the structure.
What a gem!
Wonderful stay. Exceptional in every way. Would highly recommend. Gourmet breakfasts were the best meals we had on our entire trip.
breakfast
Breakfast was fantastic, loved the location. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Feeling of royalty
Absolutely amazing place. The staff were amazing and made you feel like a royalty. Highly recommend. It's close to the suspension bridge (few mins walk) and short drive to Grouse Mountain. Couldn't have been happier with our stay.
Lovely welcoming staff in a beautiful vintage home. Breakfast was outstanding and Brian is a gracious host. Only there one night but it was great....feels like your home away from home.
Overnight before flying out
This was the most relaxing way to spend the last night of our trip. Travelling international and going through the airports can be stressful, but waking up here and having a great breakfast was the key to a laid back day! The grounds and rooms are beautiful and Brian makes a killer gourmet breakfast. Would stay again for sure.
B&B stone's throw from Capilano Bridge
Amazing B&B. Very well kept with a lot of character. Delicious breakfast with caring hosts. Under the Apple Tree is the best room with private yard, fireplace and bathtub. Loved our stay!
Vey Relaxing and beautiful
we live in Vancouver and I wanted to surprise my boyfriend for his birth day so I took him there so we can escape the busy life in downtown. It worked out perfectly! the minute we walked in we felt like we had gone for a vacation. very clean, staff very friendly, a very nice fireplace was in the living room area where we were offered a nice drink and we relaxed. the bed was great. we stayed at the snuggery room- its not small -just about right for a comfortable stay for 2.very nice bath. amazing brunch (I am a vegetarian so they took note of that)
As said by my Wife, "What amazing breakfast" - One of the bast bad-and-breakfast homes we ever stayed. Super nice! Would stay here again for sure!
Quiet, romantic little bed and breakfast. Perfect for couples.
The B&B gem of North Van
Amazing breakfasts and amazing hosts
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Brian was very pleasant and offered a ton of recommendations for experiencing the Vancouver area. The entire staff was lovely and I give the Thistle Down House my strongest of recommendations.
Thistle down B& B in the Woods/City
The host Brian is engaging and very hospitable. His wife Virginia is an amazing cook. Excellent breakfast every morning. Plan to return there. Would highly recommend.
Lovely warm service. Overall loved it. My room at the front of the house was a little noisy from the traffic even with the windows closed but otherwise great.
Good location, close to Suspension Bridge park
Great breakfast, great staff, nice location...if you stay there, make sure to go to Ginger and Soy for dinner, or have it delivered. Great Chinese!
Nice B&B but bad policy
We booked this hotel through Expedia not realizing they had a mandatory $65 charge for any cancellation, no matter how much notice you gave them. We realized within an hour of booking that the accommodation was nowhere near where we wanted to be. After attempting to contact the office, we tried Expedia customer service and they could not reach the hotel either. It took the hotel, until the middle of the following day to respond to our request and they refused to wave their fee under any circumstances, so we decided we would stay there anyway, not wanting to lose the money. The rooms are all cute, cozy and ours was very quiet and clean. The back yard garden area was peaceful and quiet. The beds were comfortable. The whole house is very quiet and peaceful. The staff upon arrival were nice but the whole feel is awkward. Breakfast is served at a large communal table, so you're kind of forced to make small talk with strangers At 8-9 o'clock in the morning. Breakfast, while nicely done was really lunch or dinner. The main course was Sea bass with risotto. I just don't see the point. How about eggs or pancakes or something normal? Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with the accommodation but would only suggest it to people who are interested in that style of service and realize their no cancellation policy.
We enjoyed the stay at Thistledown House - staff very accommodating and friendly, room was lovely, and breakfast was awesome!
I'd go again for sure!!
Lovely, amazing house, lots of room. Very warm and welcoming hosts!
Bad Memories for "Memories Room"
While we enjoyed the gardens and delicious breakfast, we feel that our room should be taken out of the guest pool during construction and unusually warm weather. Neither my husband or I got a moment’s rest and sleep during our stay. The fan at the end of the stairwell did not reach our upstairs room and the small fan provided for our use did nothing to make the room more inhabitable. Adding to our discomfort was the excessive noise of traffic and construction that began at 6:30 am. Overall, we were quite disappointed since Thistle-Down is advertised as a luxury stay and priced accordingly.
Beautiful home - excellent people
This is a beautiful home. Would stay here again. Food was excellent.
Excellent B&B Experience
Our night at Thistledown House was our last stop in Vancouver before heading home after 3 weeks of traveling up the West Coast - and it did not disappoint! Liz was super accommodating to our early check in request and had the room ready for us much earlier than anticipated. We really appreciated this consideration as it allowed us to relax a little longer before heading out into the Capilano Park - just up the road. After an afternoon of exploring and an evening of looking for local food, it was really nice coming back to our room (The Snuggery) and unwinding. Overall we agreed that this was the best night's sleep we'd had our whole trip as the bed was so comfy and the surroundings very quiet. Would definitely reccomend to friends travelling in Vancouver!
Fabulous B&B
Our breath was taken away when we entered this beautiful B&B. Breakfast was like dining in a fine restaurant . Presentation and delicious menu . The owners were very personable and very accommodating. B&B was centrally located. A place to stay . Would love to go back when we are in the area
My first father's day getaway!
Fantastic breakfast comes with your stay! The complimentary port isn't bad either!! Felt like coming home. Thanks you guys!
We stayed in the "Pages Suite" it was great!
Wonderful host. Amazing room. Beautiful place overall. Next time we are in Vancouver there is no doubt where we will stay.
A nice and pretty place to stay
A very good B&B
Wonderful Getaway
Absolutely lovely! It made for a fantastic getaway right at the edge of the forest but was also in short driving distance to shopping and Vancouver. The breakfasts were amazing -- gourmet and a total feast for the stomach and eyes!
Delightful Bed & Breakfast in a Heritage House.
At Thistledown every care has been taken to make one's stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. All the bedding and linens are of the highest quality and many thoughtful extras are included at no extra charge to add to the experience. The breakfasts are outstanding and elegantly served. I would certainly stay there again.
Our stay
Bed didn't feel very clean to us, bed wasn't springy or comfortable, bubble bath was in a funny bottle... although hospitality was great!! Breakfast was awesome.
Good bed and breakfast just outside of Vancouver and within 5 minute walk of the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Hosts were reasonably welcoming. Room light and airy with decent sized shower room. Weather unfortunately too cold to make use of the balcony that was linked to our room but was a nice added bonus none the less. Breakfasts were a little too adventurous for our tastes. Would be good to have some traditional foods on offer rather than three courses of different things i.e. whiskied apples and spaghetti with pesto sauce. Yorkshire housekeeper Carol (?) (sorry if we've got the wrong name!) was lovely, friendly and a credit to the staff there.
Lovely B&B. Will be back next time.
Loved the Thistle Down B&B. It was the wifey and I first trip to Vancouver and my first time at a Bed and Breakfast. I'm glad we made this choice over a traditional corporate hotel. Liz and her husband were absolutely lovely hostesses and the daily breakfast meals that she made for use will forever spoil my expectations of what a proper traditional breakfast should be. It was that good. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet. Perfect for a couple who doesn't require a lot of space. The neighbourhood was very nice too. We fell in love with Vancouver and are already planning our next trek out there again. The Thistle Down is high up on our list to stay again.
Beautifully presented B&B with amazing breakfast
My husband and I stayed in the Apple Tree room and it was really well presented. Appreciated the freedom to come & go as we wanted with a personal door code. All the details and touches you'd expect from a 5* hotel, including a glass of port or sherry on arrival! Breakfast was an event: 3 courses of YUM! Liz the host was incredible and everything you could ask of a host. The only minor niggles were the lack of blackout blinds and the overly bouncy bed (hubby moves around in his sleep and this kept waking me up).

Great B&B experience
We enjoyed our stay -- comfy bed with nice linens, very clean, elegant breakfast, and great location. Although it is not an isolated home (neighbors are close), once inside it feels very cozy and relaxing. Short walk to Capilano suspension bridge and short drive (5 mins) up to Grouse Mountain. We drove 10-15 mins into North Vancouver waterfront area for some nice dinners out. Enjoyed conversation with Brian, our host, at breakfast.
