Surprisingly cosy rooms in an extremely convenient location. Small for the price but that's just normal in London. Has everything you require and can recommend them easily
The floors are thin and squeaky like that of an old house. I heard the people from the room above me walking/moving every time they moved. It was quite annoying
Not for anyone who wants some sleep
Itvwas ok, clean and tidy. The floorboards were really noisy though and we could hear above and below us when they walked. The road outside was heavy with trafiic, sirens and shouting 24hrs. Its a good location for shopping etc but its noisy. Not for anyone whonwants some sleep.
Good but some things need fixing
Firstly the good bits. The staff were friendly on arrival and checkout. The beds were comfortable which the main thing you want in a hotel. The room had two bottles of complementary water and a nice selection of teas and coffees. We didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that. What let the hotel down was the upkeep of the room. The corners had a lot of cobwebs so those are missed during cleaning. The light above the mirror was coming away from the wall and didn’t work. The towel heating rack in the bathroom didn’t work so the towels felt cold and damp due to no heating. No blind cord so unable to pull the blind down over the window. The connector in the shower was leaking. If these simple things were fixed it would be a great place to stay.
Good for seeing the sights
Although the building is old, and parts of corridor had water-ingress damage, our room was immaculately clean and comfortable. Very convenient for getting around to the theatres and museums.
Thank you for amazing service. The people at this front desk 🙏🙏🙏
Comfortable room
Renovation works in progress. Starting at 08.15
Overall a great stay, service and staff very helpful and accommodating. Room a little noisy at night and the bathroom blind very mouldy and the rims around the toilet not very clean . Breakfast selection great and tasty, however a little on the cold side. I would return and stay again as in great location. Thank you
London with the girls
Excellent service. There was a problem with our room when we arrived, so we were allocated another room immediately, they allowed us to check in early and gave us a complimentary breakfast the following day. Couldn’t ask for better service than that. Lovely complimentary chocolates too.
Fine
Very good location for the West End, the hotel is fine, a little tired and lacking simple touches (no mirror in the bedroom is pretty basic) but it’s good enough for most circumstances.
The staff were friendly at reception and in the breakfast room. Our room was small with little room to move around. Storage in the room was OK. The shower cubicle was very small. Breakfast was OK with several different options. It is worth noting that there is only one lift which is very small, it will only take two people with luggage at a squeeze. The location is good with lots of pubs and restaurants close by. The hotel is a short walk from Russell Square or Holburn tube stations
Close to everything
Great spot. Close to services. Helpful staff and comfortable room. We would stay again
Wonderful. We couldn’t be happier.
Special thanks to Aisha for being so friendly. We were made to feel so welcome, it was such a special way to start our trip to London. Our room is lovely and comfortable and quiet, everything is spotlessly clean. Genuinely very happy and contented customers. Thank you ☺️ Ps. Give Aisha a bonus - she’s a star.
Excellent location, very convenient.
Good central location. Hotel old and rooms a bit tired. Good value. Yin on check in went over and beyond and it was a pleasure to be greeted by such a friendly front of house staff!
For the price this was great. The elevator can only hold 1-2 people at a time depending on your size and how much luggage you have. So sometimes waiting for the elevator could take time if there were a lot of people using it
Perfect stay
Perfect stay receptionist every helpful, checked in early
Staff were excellent!
Stayed with Thistle Bloomsbury Park in early August, room was lovely and clean although lack of air conditioning but a fan was provided in the room and was sufficient. It had everything we needed for our 1 night stay. But a special mention for Grimaldi and Yin on reception who gave excellent customer service and went above and beyond to make our trip special, both are a credit to the hotel
Only suggestion would be to have a small fan in the room as it was quite hot in the room; otherwise staff were very efficient and pleasant
Well located but no air con
Well located for theatres, big issue is lack of air conditioning, room stifling despite fan on constantly
Disappointed
This hotel has no AC. We came in July and it was quite hot and muggy. There was no soap in the shower or facecloths in the bathroom. (Fortunately, we had our own soap) The toilet was not flushing properly. We ran out of TP. Literally, someone had to run downstairs to get a supply. It took over 24 hours for our issues to be resolved. We were on the 7th floor. The elevator does not go to the 7th floor, so my daughter and I were dragging our bags upstairs and downstairs without assistance. (Same for another daughter, family of 4). It was clean and in a good location. Thankfully there was a fan in the room. The staff seemed put out with any issue reported and acted as if they didn't know what they were supposed to do about it. The bartender was great.
The hotel and room were clean but very faded. Sheets and bedding were clean but room was horribly smelly. Workmen started drilling outside the hotel at 8 in the morning and the whole room shook- We realise they were not the responsibility of the hotel and outside their control but made it unbearable. Some of the staff were very helpful, others not so. The best was the breakfast which was plentiful with lots of choice and extra touches that were a credit to the chef- like chopped corriander on the mushrooms.
Managed to get an early check in thank you
Bloomsbury July
Good location
It was central to most places with a good bus network. We had one issue when we checked in,but was delt with very quickly. The only thing the lift was very slow. Other that that everything was good.
It only needs air conditioning to be perfect. Great staff. Perfect location
A nice enough area but didn't spend enough time there to say anything positive or negative about the hotel, it was what you expect for a place you are just using as a base. And the my rating reflects this.
Nice quaint hotel near everything. Little older property but clean and comfortable
Good and clean hotel
Good, clean hotel is a really good location. I am an Asian person and the number of desi, halal places near me were ideal. Hence this location was very useful for me.
Choice of ground floor for my disability, comfortable room and lovely breakfast - plenty of variety.
Needs an update in the bedrooms, carpet is worn and in my bathroom entrance I tripped over a loose tile a couple of times. Staff were apologetic but I would have thought it would have been picked up as the cleaner went in and out of there. I couldn’t lock my windows either and there was roof access outside my windows. Staff at reception were lovely.
Good hotel great location.
Clean comfortable room with everything we need for a short stay. Great price for the location.
Hotel fune. Seevice not so great.
Clean rooms good location but despite checkout at 11am we had 3 differentpeople knock on our room door at 8.30am, 9am and 10am asking when we were going as they needed to do maintenance. Almost like trying to get us out. Not great service.
Staff were friendly and the room was a good size for London. Bathroom was a bit dated but compared to other London hotels it was great value for money.
Really great location, fantastic room
It was nice
Theatre Land Hotel
We had a very pleasant stay at the Thistle Bloomsbury Sq. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a good location to walk to London Theatres and other attractions. There is an underground NCP car park 100m from the hotel which can be pre booked for reasonable prices. The self service hot/cold breakfast sends you on your way with plenty of energy!
Lovely base for London Weekend
Clean , comfortable base for a weekend in London - nice location with access to transport nearby . Lots of places we wanted to go were within walking distance and underground , buses and taxis were close by for other places . Staff polite and helpful , lovely breakfast all fresh and tasty - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Elevator never in service.
Room very clean and spacious Great location in central london staff very helpful
Central London location with easy access to Holborn Station and Covent Garden
Location
We had a great stay. Everything was clean and the location was ideal. Breakfast was good as well.
Very clean and also a very convenient location. Desk staff were very pleasant and helpful and there was always someone at the desk. Only negative was after a long day walking and seeing the sites, we came back and room had not be cleaned and towels not replaced. We told staff and they sent someone right away. Breakfast was good. I would stay there again.
.
Great location
Our first room was on the 7th floor with the lift only going to floor 6 meaning dragging our cases up a flight of stairs. The room was small but nice however there was no hot water in the shower and then it became less than a trickle. I spoke to staff and they said they would move us. We were given a room on the 6th floor in the corner which was a much larger room with a lovely outlook (and functioning shower).
Staff was friendly and allowed us to check in an hour early without issue. Only negative was that the bathrooms are freezing in the morning, but that isn’t the properties fault! Would definitely recommend and stay here again.
Excellent stay in central London
I had a corner room on the 4th floor, very quiet as the lift is behind doors to the corridor. The room was a good size, bed was very comfortable and bathroom was adequate. The breakfast was excellent, no grease on anything and plenty of choice. The staff from reception to checkout were all very polite and accommodating. The hotel is conveniently situated for pubs and restaurants in the immediate vicinity and the tube is only a few minutes away. All boxes ticked for me.
Nice time
Room clean, staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, Enjoyed time at your hotel
The location was perfect! We loved having a central location to explore the city and being close to dining and sight seeing.
Having only one small lift was a real nuisance.
Bloomsbury Park gem
Good location not too far from Euston or underground. Staff rly pleasant professional & helpful. Would stay there again.
Rooms were very outdated. With only one power outlet. For a double room. Room size small. Bathrooms very small and uninviting
Great experience.
The hotel is on a busy-ish street with good access to transport. Our check in was hassle free and our night's sleep was very comfortable.
Great location
Great base location for sightseeing or going to the theatre. Decent sized rooms, shower space small but clean and practical. Good value for money.
We had two great stays at Thistle Bloomsbury Park. Excellent location, close to Holborn and Russell Square stations and on a bus line. We had an issue with one of the fold up beds but everything else was great.
Nice stay at a cozy hotel…
Our rooms were clean and comfortable. It’s a smaller hotel with only one lift but it wasn’t a long wait. Also, if you’re booked on the 7th floor, you’ll need to walk up one flight of stairs - but that wasn’t an issue either. Nice area, close to tons of shops and restaurants.
Check in very poor experience. Rooms dated and old fashioned.
Staff were extremely helpful and courteous throughout the stay. The location was clean and met expectations for that hotel. The location is great, with proximity to sites, dining, shopping, and transportation.
If i could give a -10 points i would
I walked in like a drowned rat and was asked how my day was, i looked at him and said seriously ! 8 got laughed at . He never even said that they had umbrellas to hire durring my stay which you would think he would tell me at this point. !Terrible staff , service and nothing like the pictures. The bath would not drain so if i wanted a shower i had to be quick.Complaind each day(3)and told they fixed it?mold on tiles windows curtains and blinds. Carpet dirty. There was a horrible smell of mold everywhere upstairs including the room. Large chunks out of the walls in my room.Plaster hanging off the walls on the landing with damp and a sighn even saying sorry we are working on this!Had to clear my own table for breakfast as 8 tables were not cleared.and charged £18 ! Premier inn charge just over a tenner and 100 times better. Food was luke walm and most had run out at 9am ! I put in a complant and never had a penny back nor a written apology. Hotels.com tried and they refused to offer any compensation. I did not get what i paid 4! however the location was brilliant. The only good thing about it. It wont let me load pics for some resson. Very convenient!
Tired and in need of TLC
Hotel was adequate. Definitely in need of some TLC with solid spots on carpets and corridor walls. Service was friendly and breakfast was reasonable
Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Fan in room. Great location.
The place smelled horrible with no attempt to clean what caused the smell, the locks on the door were broken. Not enough time to get another hotel
Okay, it's just a bed for the night
It was okay, 3 of us in a room and quite cramped, sofa bed not the most comfy. We had to ask for an extra cup as there were only two, but it came straight away so that was good.
How to look after your guests!
We had a one night stay at the Thistle Bloomsbury. After our show we tried to check in only to find that the whole floor our room was on had a problem. We were very tired, so this wasnt good news! The Manager was very polite and efficient and quickly directed us to the Thistle Holbern, where he'd upgraded us from a standard room to a suite and improved breakfast. So thanks for sorting out this problem and making us feel valued guests. I will try and choose a Thistle hotel again! Thank you.
One night stay with friends
Fabulous Hotel. Ideally situated within walking distance of the Theatres and tube stations. Very clean and comfortable Junior Suite. Delicious breakfast. Welcoming, polite and extremely helpful staff.
The bed was impossible to get comfortable on.
Not Great
Rooms are very tired could do with an update. Only double beds so not much room Noise outside rooms from street was terrible as there’s a bar below so we got very little sleep. Noise from other residents was inconsiderate to others Housemaids knock early and 3/4 times which ca be very annoying For £800 for 2 nights I wouldn’t stay again
Great location, Rude & Condescending reception
The room itself is basic, small and convenient for the location which you are paying for here. Does have a student form feel too it, but the bed is comfortable for a good sleep. Service: I think that this was the first time I felt totally insulted by the check in desk, specifically a certain member of staff during check in. He insisted on my passport as an ID when I had my UK driving licence. He gave the most 'up-down' dismissive look to me; and that made me uncomfortable as a woman. He thereafter asked about my residency status in the UK, which is a question I don't feel I should be answering. I was being dropped off by a family member helping with my bag, and he insisted he see his passport too! I did feel a hint of discrimination given he wasn't that rude to the Caucasian guests before me, so perhaps we looked too ethnic. Rudest check in ever in London, where I travel to a lot. Hotels are also service institutions, Management must ensure to install service culture within their staff.
Probably wouldn't stay again but not awful
Room was very small for a double. Shower was to small to bend down and pick up show gel and the shower curtain was to long it blocked the drain meaning the tray flooded the bathroom floor. Probably will not stay again
Carpets need a hood clean, it affected my sinuses. Bedsheets needed a wash.
I enjoyed the property itself and its location. It has a wonderful historical vibrance. The staff was fine.
Clean, comfortable but a little basic.
The hotel room was basic but clean and not a problem as it was only a base for us for an overnight stay.
Ok, public areas clean and tidy. Room needed a deep clean and bathroom not great. Shower kept getting cold.
Very tired property … but pricy for the price
Good points: Great location. An easy walk from Euston, as well as an easy walk to theatre land. Plenty of bus or tube alternatives too if you prefer not to walk. Check in was very easy. Our room was even available three hours early which was unexpected and appreciated. Great price via Expedia too. Negative points: the downside of a reduced price room is often that you get the lesser quality rooms. Ours was on the top (7th) floor. The lift only reached the sixth floor. The room corridor was chilly, as was our room. The central heating radiator was set to Max, but it was only lukewarm at best. Fortunately an electric radiator was also in the room which we were able to make use of. The bathroom was very chilly. We both had showers that were only just warm rather than hot! The second bath towel sourced from the wardrobe had black streaks on it, so my wife refused to use it and used mine instead even though I had already showered with it. Other than that the room was well prepared and clean. Overall this is a decent hotel and I am sure the majority of the rooms on lower floors are of an excellent standard, having stayed in one of them in the past.
Friendly reception, very helpful. Comfortable room lots of space. Central and close to the tube recommended
Spacious room
We only stayed one night (in-transit), but the room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The hotel is also conveniently located with many options for dining.
Its a nice friendly hotel. Plenty of milk for the tea. Comfortable bed, spacious clean room. Wonderful old London pub around the corner.
Disappointed run down
Bit disappointed with our stay the room was a bit run down the window didn’t shut properly and had a draft all night the bathroom had the ceiling paint peeling off and was in poor condition in other areas also just thought condition was a bit poor as have stayed in thistle hotels before but this was probably the worst one
Good location, good value for money fro central London
first room there was little to no heat First night was freezing shower drain inadequate so that water went all over the floor second room same issue with the shower drain daily room makeup was spotty at best incomplete this place is not worth the $ spent
Friendly staff
The staff were super friendly and catered to our needs very well, the room was decent and had what we needed, good location with lots of places to eat around
It was ok. Clean and I slept well. Prices are high. It’s the area but not worth the nightly rate.
A great breakfast and pleasant staff
Tired decoration. Looked dirty and smelled foisty! Over Expensive to buy a drink there. Was convenient for where we were visiting but wouldn’t stay there again.
Spacious, quiet, good location
On arrival we were informed we had been moved to a sister hotel, despite myself ringing reception earlier in the day, a prime opportunity to inform us we had been moved due to renovation difficulties. When we got to the sister hotel Holborn Thistle, there was no remote control for the tv and it could not be turned off. The original reception staff did not appear to be concerned that we would not be able to sleep. The evening receptionists appeared to be helpful, but said there was no way to turn off the tv and that we’d have to sleep with it on. In the morning when checking out we were asked about our stay and we explained the difficulties regarding the tv, they did not apologise or seem to be understanding of the inconvenience caused.
Great place to stay
We normally stay in travelodge when we visit london this was our first stay at thistle and wow we will always use thistle over travelodge now there wasn’t much in price difference thistle had every thing a Hugh bed breakfast was lovely and so we’re the staff my only recommendation would be not to get 7th floor as from the lift you have to climb some stairs but this would not stop me staying at thistle Holborn again
Friendly, clean and good breakfast
Really friendly service, breakfast was good with everything you need to set you up for the day. Rooms clean but a bit dated, and there was only 1 lift. Overall good and would stay again. Does look like they are in the middle of refurbishing.
Good quality hotel for reasonable pricing
Very clean and professional staff. I will definitely recommend.
The location and staff/service were excellent. The bed was very good, but it still has the old- fashioned feel. Some of the fixtures and state of curtains need attention. Its an old building and comfortable but rooms need some attention. The lift is very small but functional. The staff were so helpful and responded quickly. Bloomsbury is an interesting part of London and the location made up for any small negative details.
Nice hotel
Good location, within walking distance from Euston station. Quiet room facing courtyard, though could hear sounds early in the morning from nearby rooms. Breakfast was pleasant though fairly pricey.
Avoid if possible
N or the best - arrived at 8:40pm and still waiting to check in half an hour later. Receptions grasp of English was very poor. Room was sub standard, breakfast was cheap and poor quality ingredients. Check out was just as bad, printer not working, poor English … will not return.
Great location. Rooms need updating
Helpful staff. Comfy beds. Room very old and need of updating and decorating. Poor lighting in bedroom - only 2 bedside lamps. Light above mirror in bathroom not working. Paint peeling off windows
Great
Close to museums , theatres, and historical areas.
London weekend
Hotel and staff were generally excellent. Hotel clean and breakfast was pleasing with a fair variety of cereals and usual full english. Good location for theatres. Unfortunately some maintenance issues should be addressed with some urgency.
Awful service at reception. Do not stay here unless you don’t want to sleep. The walls are too thin and we heard noise all night
