The room, the river view, and the staff are wonderful. Nice quiet restaurant and bar on prem. The location is convenient and walkable and close to everything we want to do in the city. Having a fantastic visit.
Nice location. Could have better dining options
Cool but just okay
The vibe was cool for sure, but it wasn’t 100%. The room had definitely been through the washing machine a few too many times. Wall had some splatters and there was red crayon on the tv but the room was in general very clean. I loved the big towels and the mattress was incredible.I hated no fan in the bathroom and a lack of hooks to hang towels on. The room service was a touch unfortunate considering its price.
Perfect for a nicer work trip
It was a nice stay. Kind of overrated.
Lovely experience from check in to check out - gorgeous room with a river view, sumptuous bedding and robes, excellent service!
It is walkable to Georgetown. Some of the staff seemed unwilling to help, but some were great. The valet staff, cleaners, and bar staff were wonderful.
The housekeeping staff is extremely helpful and their service is great! Love the location of the hotel. Overall, it was a great experience.
The front desk was extremely helpful in finding my husband and I the perfect room.
I loved the room and especially the shower. The location is not close to many restaurants.
The mandatory valet parking situation was terrible. There is only one small entrance in and out of the front of the hotel. Something tells me it is like this all the time regardless of holidays.
The facility was great, and the staff was quite well recommended
Great!
I truly enjoyed our stay at the Watergate. I've driven by many times bc the little rock service station on the corner was where my grandfather had his first job. Makes me feel close to him. The staff was great. The rooms were great. My only complaint was that there was no food when we got back from seeing the National symphony at 10:30pm. Everyone was closed including room service. I had to door dash. I would've spent my money on the Watergate food if it would've been available.
Lovely historic hotel. Beautifully decorated. Amazing and attentive staff!
Tyler was awesome! Great service!
Unique
I paid for an upgraded room with 2 queen beds. However i ended up in a room with just double beds. I think the only upgrade was a balcony but the beds were definitely not queen size.
Incredible!! The room was finished very elegantly. Soft robes and incredibly soft bed. Will be back as soon as I can
Ehhhh I guess it was okay
The stay was alright. Given the reputation of the Watergate Hotel, there were several issues that surprised me. My girlfriensand I stayed for Valentines Day. The whisky bar was excellent, and the room was kinda nice. But…The showers did not have hot water, and we were told the solution was to “let the water run until it gets hot,” which unsurprisingly, did not happen. There was also a loud banging pipe noise any time the heating kicked on. Don’t get me wrong, the bed was comfy and the bathrobes were nice. But no hot water and loud noises at night were a bit tough. Although, I have to give a ton of credit to the staff. They were super understanding and did their best to remedy the situation. 5.5/10
Very nice hotel with friendly staff. I didn’t like having to request ice and there was no sanitary plastic bag in the ice bucket
Watergate Rocks
Awesome people run this place, totally redone, amazing food and pool, jacuzzi & steam rooms…
We loved our stay, the staff was very welcoming and friendly. Our water pressure and shower fabulous. The atmosphere was serene and inviting. My husband and I enjoyed the egg white frittata and the big gym and pool!
Since my last staying nothing has changed. Managing the maintenance and services still need improvement.
I stay here regularly. Very happy with staff and rooms.
It was okay, not worth the price.
City weekend
Rooms are wonderful and the staff are very friendly.
The staff were very nice and helpful. Especially the engineer who rescued me off my balcony in my room after I was locked out his name was Kevin Collins and the front desk attendant Jason. I appreciate them so much.
Great service,great food
Our shower did not have consistent hot water.
The pool, hot tub and sauna were excellent.
It’s a five star facility for a reason, everything was above expectations.
The staff at The Watergate just amazing. From the moment you step out of your car, every single person said “hello” or “welcome”. We have been at many luxury hotels and resorts, but this will be our ‘bar’ for future stays. The restaurant and Whiskey Bar were fabulous. The room service avocado toast was the best i ever had! Donovan was very helpful and remembered our names after the very first night! 10/10 Will definitely be back!

Wonderful
I love this hotel! From the valet, to the bell hops, the front desk staff and food staff everyone is awesome and provide great customer service! The hotel pool is amazing and they have a lot of trinkets. Will definitely stay again!
Location
The hotel is very average. For the amount we paid per night I was expecting way more. The hotel is outdated, the rooms and service were average. Not really worth it in my opinion.
Pool was not heated, restaurant and bar close too early. Steam room not working.
It’s was amazing
Lovely stay. Everyone we interacted with was professional and attentive.
Spa was broken. TV in room didn’t work. No coffe in the lobby at 9:15 AM.
Overpriced and overcharged.
View and location were amazing!!
Beautiful property
Beautiful view of Potomac river and geoortown from room large room great location next to Kennedy Center
The hotel and staff was really nice. However, we noted some things that needed to be addressed in our room multiple times and they were not dealt with. Nothing major but there were two of us and only one coffee mug (which we raised multiple times) and a light was blinking in the bathroom and it never got fixed so we just didn’t use it. There were also some cleaning supplies left in our room. It’s those small things that matter when you pay the rates we did with the expectation of great service.
The balcony door did not lock, front desk did not care, spa, hot tub , sauna not working, heat stuck on high. Room service too expensive. Gave away our dbl bed room. Won’t book this hotel again.
Horrible toilet smell
Horrible smell coming out of the toilet. Asked for room change and same thing.
Everything went great!! I enjoyed my stay!!
Not impressed
I booked the hotel for the indoor pool for my kids. It was very cold (supposed to be heated), sauna and jacuzzi were out of service which was not made known at the time of booking. TV in the room kept turning off every 10-15 minutes for no reason. Stains on carpet, toilet made a dripping noise all night, bathtub stopper didn’t work. Room service never answered the phone after 15 minutes of trying. Had to go to front desk to place order. I’ve stayed at other 5 star hotels and the Watergate hotel was not up to those standards.
Couples trip to our nations capitol
Rooms, facilities and services were great. The spa had a lot of amenities not working and the bed was not very comfortable
Some things about my stay at The Watergate were wonderful, such as the staff and the cleanliness of the room and the hotel overall. But the area around the hotel is not pedestrian-friendly. The area of The Watergate complex gets slippery when wet, so if you're walking in the rain, be extra careful. Also, there's no pedestrian walkway to get to the front lobby. You have to slip in between cars driving in and out. The options for food were limited. The Kingbird was good, but it has very limited vegetarian options. I also have a severe seafood allergy, so I'm careful where I eat. The Kingbird made me nervous because there's a lot of fish/seafood on its menu, and I was afraid of cross-contamination. Also, it's a little pricey and fancy. Sometimes you just want a sandwich.
Great stay. The staff were wonderful. My meals were delicious.
Iconic hotel. Loved the little mentions of why this hotel is so famous. On the back of the key cards, it says, “No need to break in”.
Overall pleasant
First time staying at the Watergate and it was an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately the pool was cold, hottub not working and sauna also not working. While we received a $100 credit, the reason for selecting the hotel on this trip was for those amenities. Very high quality service, wonderful staff, and great location!
We were upgraded to the Scandal Suite and had an amazing time. I loved everything about this hotel.
pretty basic hotel
Not the luxury I had expected by what your website said. Bedding and bed was uncomfortable, no top sheet and the bottom sheet was not tucked in, very weird. Food was extremely expensive but was good tasting.
Clean and beautiful interior. Service was fantastic and quick to address any questions or needs. Would stay at the Watergate again.
A home away from home
Like a private residence. Always friendly and professional check-in and check-out; great doormen; comfortable, quiet, luxurious room; and the best pool in D.C. Great value, too.
Great for a weekend getaway
Great service / staff. By far best hotel visited in DC.
I had such amazing time at this hotel
Very good stay
The bed was poorly made. Comforter was torn. A panel stayed on all night.
Very beautiful place, pleasant and helpful staff.
No microwave oven in the room, no laundry on site, dining is pricy. location is very inconvenient, customer service is just ok. Overall, we won’t stay there again.
The Watergate is the most luxurious hotel I have stayed in to date, and it definitely reflects that. I think while the exterior is showing its age with the dated architecture, the interior and the staff do all they can and then some to make up for it. The lobby is beautiful, and so are the rooms. I almost forgot the views of the Potomac also did their fair share of helping with the exterior too. Overall, one of the best experiences I have ever had in a hotel.
I
Front desk staff was lovely and helpful. I did not receive VIP access—and not one mentioned it. The roof is terribly dirty and the food much too overpriced. Hallways and rooms are in need of updates.
Great place
The service was LACKING to say the least. Restaurant host on a break so a person with a handful of cotton candy finally summoned a waiter to seat us (9PM on a Friday, 3 tables in the restaurant); room NOT cleaned at all by 6PM one day - took another 40 minutes to get someone there; requested additional towels and pillows via email prior to arrival- not there; was our anniversary and made hotel aware - mot even a note; requested museum suggestions from concierge prior to arrival- never replied; huge leak in lobby 2 times during our stay; HUGE cockroach in gym while i was changing; area around hotel but on property, run down; people staying in hotel with pets letting their animals relieve themselves in the front lawn under the sign that said NO PETS ON GRASS. As bad as all this was, Front Office Director Yarisa Almodovar was a STAND OUT problem solver and by far then shining beacon of hope in our weekend- the reason we left happy in the end. Sad because the property has such history and could be a FAB time capsule camp decor property that people WANT to stay in.
Great hotel
A Bittersweet Experience
The Watergate was a phenomenal experience, however it was quite disturbing the lack of a visible presence of Blacks who are descendants of the American enslaved working in the establishment, not even in housekeeping. The lack of this demographic presence raises the question is the management circumventing hiring this sector by hiring foreign born people of color (POC), even from Turkey, to camouflage their discriminatory practices against ADOS (American Descendants of Slaves) people. Additionally, I’m mobility challenged and require assistance. When my granddaughter came to pick me up the doormen were very abrupt with her as she waited for me. Because I stayed for 4 days and use a mobile scooter they were all aware of my limitations. Possibly that particular gentleman wasn’t on duty those 4 days and wasn’t aware of my situation. However, if that was the case, there was no excuse for his rudeness to my granddaughter. Otherwise, the experience was delightful. And the spa is the best.
Superior service and accommodations.
very nice short stay friendly and professional staff very nice room very nice view
Cable was down for 3 days
Excellent stay for me.
Historic, next th Kennedy Center
Best hotel pillows anywhere. Lovely large room, staff is helpful and welcoming; would stay there again
The location is great, and the room is big, but there is not a coffee table in the room, only a very small table like a night stand.
Very cozy place, all the amenities are great and Spacious overall great place to stay.
.
The good things were the staff and doormen were polite, I was excited about the historical significance of the property, and I had a great view of the water. However, the room design was awkward and extremely small in that when you opened the room door, the foot of one of the beds was right there making it challenging to get in and out especially with my suitcase and the desk chair was very uncomfortable and not suited for a desk. But the biggest disappointments were 1) "luxury claim" is FALSE 2) the hotel apparently had no clean face cloths for 3 of the 4 nights. Ridiculous! I had to bathe with hand towels; 3) the carpet was filthy in the hallway and inside my room. Luxury? NOT! 4) I felt they put me in that awkward room because I had booked via expedia. I asked to be moved but was told they did not have another room of my "type".
just plain neat to stay there. appreciated the play on history…the rooms were stunning…and being up on 14 looking at the Washington Monument was a bonus! wish there would have been room in fridge for my own things…in fairness they brought a whole new one but it was large and what a pain…he brought it all the way up for me to ask him to just take it back…they should have the larger fridges w room left for guests and the bring the smaller fridges upon request but…he brought me a whole damn box of coffee pods so it worked out…liquor store close…mini mart close too but inside another housing unit and its locked but i got in and they had pretty much anything you could have asked for…nice walk to the Kennedy Center and then to the mall and it all actually…all accessible by foot…scooters and bicycles were available…even right at property…and a close walk to metro…would stay there again
Good location and amenities
5 star hotel, no questions asked.
Wonderful hotel
The Watergate was beautiful! The staff was attentive and friendly.
Everyone was so kind to me. Thank you.
I really enjoyed the pool and spa features. The rooftop bar/restaurant was also enjoyable because of the views. It’s very close to the bike path so if you want to go for a run or a bike ride, it’s easy to get to. Staff was incredibly friendly and very helpful.
Decent hotel for the price for DC. Limited food options in the area, 1/2 mile walk to restaurants and metro.
There was a mouse that ran across the floor during our check-in
The property is dated. The front desk and operator do not answer the phone. The service is terrible. And it took us twenty minutes to get the car from the valet. We had tried to call before we left the room but, like the night before, the front desk didn’t pick up the phone. This was a very disappointing stay.
I had an amazing stay, 10/10.
I booked this hotel for my boyfriend birthday and it’s super nice and clean everybody that work there was welcoming and sweet would definitely recommend!
Alice at the front desk is a star!
Great location and hotel
5 star service from every associate I encountered. They hire well, train well and execute well on guest service. I showed up from a day riding bikes on the C&O Trail in muddy clothes and dirty bikes with room service closed and they treated me as though I walked out of a limo by grabbing bikes and storing in locked storage closet, telling me cleaning service will get the mud off the floor and helping me get a quick and easy food order by a near by restaurant. I’ll surely be back there the next trip to DC.
Watergate
The Watergate is a nice hotel in a terrific location. The property underwent a renovation a few years ago and we really enjoyed our stay. Housekeeping and front desk staff were top notch. One of our two beds was very comfortable, the other just OK. The rooftop terrace was a great place to have a cocktail at the end of the day (Pricey but fun). Fitness center and pool are great. Walking distance to Kennedy Center and GWU and I went for a run down at the National Mall. They have a Scandal room that you can reserve or tour from where the surveillance took place for the break in. Valet parking was $58 but we were able to find spots close by on the street.
The incredible customer experience from the doorman to the front desk to the parking attendants. This was one of the best "service" experiences I have ever had. Class act and will surely stay at the Watergate again. Says a lot about the management, the hiring, the training and the focus they have on service as their number one priority.

I loved the spacious rooms and view
