Great place for the price

The property was ok, great location for our concert. However staff attitude in the bar was terrible! Unfriendly, unapproachable and unprofessional.

Convenient to concert venue, friendly staff and restaurant on site. Requested room service but beds not made, not all rubbish removed and missing a towel.A small annoyance - no soap dish.

Walking to distance to eden park

Close to all your shopping needs. Has dining available on site also for convenience. Lots of parking.

Great hotel, easy location to everything we needed. Very friendly and helpful staff. Only had towels and cutlery etc for 2 people, even though we booked and paid for 3 people.

Nice room across the street from the main hotel property. The only issue was the hair dryer provided in the room seemed to short circuit the electrical outlet in the bathroom or the dryer just happened to break.

It has been a few years, but yet again I loved my stay at The Surrey Hotel. The room was excellent and the staff were great. I really enjoyed my two evening meals in the restaurant. I highly recommend this property and will definitely stay there again.

Was a really lovely stay for my daughter and I for our girls pink weekend away.

Requested a room with no stairs didnt happen had to take a much smaller room instead

Our room wasn’t cleaned properly, we found a pair of socks beside one of the beds. The dishes in the cupboard had food on them. There was a child's toy on the floor. The area around the hotel looks like it was beautiful ten years ago but the grounds had trash lying about. The lobby was pleasant and the staff were nice.

Good location, quiet and safe. Room was clean and tidy except air conditioning didn’t work.

Easy to get to and central to city and supermarket

Absolutely amazing

We are family of 3 stayed in a room with a queen bed and a single. Single bed was extremely soft. Pillows sucked all very thin. Kitchenette was awesome. Receptionist and housekeeper were very friendly. Full tiled shower looked good however it wasn’t cleaned properly. Appreciate the shower head was movable and was quite powerful. Also liked the provided set of body and hair cleaning products.

Love the style of the hotel. Would have been nice to have been told if there was an elevaor at all or offered some help with items as there was a lot of stairs for what we needed to carry. Clean spaces. Definitely not sound proof! Staff wete pretty friendly. Good parking

Needed a place to stay for the night, didn’t need luxury or anything extra so no issues.

The 1st lady on the night was ok but seemed a bit angry was not very hospitable and lacked a little in hospitality. The morning younger lady was very nice hospitality excellent and showed up the lady last nite as she made you feel important and welcome so 10/10 for her she made my day. The beds were ok the mattress was lumpy an poked you when you lay on it and was very uncomfortable and hard . Needs to be replaced and there was no utensils like a teaspoon or knife and fork or spoon nowhere to heat anything or cook anything just a jug and coffee cups and glasses was all it provided. Found a syringe 💉 on the outside of my window so they should have checked the windows from the last person's stay an they should have removed it.The room was lovely just a few things like could hear snoring in the next room an kids bouncing a ball on the ground that was either upstairs or next door.

My family and I stayed for 2 nights. We had a busy action packed weekend in Auckland planned so didn’t spend much time at the hotel. The exterior is pretty dated but our room was a pleasant surprise. It was all we needed for somewhere to sleep.

The location was fine. The accommodation was ok. They told us that the rugby would be on in the bar/restaurant on Sunday morning, so we llanned to watch it there. Turns out "the tv was broken"... we are pretty confident in guessing they didnt have sky sport, and thats why they werent showing it. Dont appreciate being lied to.

Key cards not working having to call staff, carpet in room very dirty. Very friendly staff.

Good customer service on arrival, room was clean few stains on the carpet but nothing major. Pretty good for the price, would stay again.

First time I've stayed in a hotel with ant infestation they got in our food our drinks and even our luggage when we got home

There was food crumbs on the floor and someones toothbrush was left in the shower too.

Rooms were nice n comfortable.

I hate to claim noisy as an issue... I stayed during World Cup and what do you expect from drunken Football/Soccer fans? Kind of par for the course. Property is decently clean, not a 4 or 5 star resort by any means but not terrible. Found the housekeeping to be hit or miss - some days they show up, some days not. It appears that if the day ends before they get to my room, oh well, they skip. The guest laundry is only really for guests in the late night, the staff uses it during the day and it's not available, but there is a laundromat a block away which costs about the same, although it is a little sketchy. Also, a large sum of cash went missing from my room while I stayed there (no safe) and I honestly don't know if it is related to the hotel or not. I will not cast aspersions on anyone when I don't know what happened, other than $1000 USD went missing. If you carry valuable items, I would make other plans. They need to finish renovating; the fitness center is officially closed due to a flooding event, but I've seen no evidence of a renovation and have been using at least the weights for a number of days and nobody noticed. Decent enough place, just realize you are getting what you are paying for.

We decided to stay here for old time's sake as we stayed for 7 weeks 10 years ago while our new house was being finished. What a disappointment! While the rooms have had a modest refresh, the service and quality has significantly dropped. The restaurant staff were cheerful but inattentive, left us sitting with a table of dirty dishes for over an hour and didn't check in for drink refills. They spent most of their time out on the deck together smoking. At 6pm we asked for coffee and were told they close the machine at 5pm. They offered no alternative and told us they were dead serious. My friend found brush bristles in her salad and they kindly provided a new salad which was appreciated.

We had a great stay. Nice looking and clean hotel. Bonus they let us check in earlier.

Friendy staff

The only issue was that the bathroom door could not be locked.

Very tired decor, room smelt terrible, dirty carpet, window didn’t shut properly, bathroom was very old with broken parts. The room we were in was in need of a serious upgrade. Apparently other parts of the hotel have already been renovated. Location was excellent for us & staff friendly, although restaurant/bar shut pretty early.

Nice room for an overnight stay. We enjoyed a swim in the pool in the middle of winter it is covered and mildly heated around 21 degrees. Room was clean, beds comfy, shower good. All tidy. Heater a little noisy, but no biggy. We really enjoyed our stay, the front desk was friendly and helpful.

A great, characterful place to stay. The room was clean and well stocked. Some of the light fittings were a little faulty and also the towel rack didnt work. Excellent pool, bar, restaurant and gym facilities. The breakfast was yum!

Warm, comfortable and modern updated bathroom made this a lovely stay.

It was a nice place to stay the only let down was the party across the road both Friday and Saturday night that kept me awake for most of the night

Expecting a modern furnished two bedroom apartment, it wasn’t. Stains on sofa. Bathroom smelt like men’s urinal that hasn’t been cleaned properly. Smell drifts into the lounge and one of the bedrooms. No hand wash or extra toilet paper in bathroom. Had booked for two nights but left after the first night because of the smell and itchiness from the carpet. I wouldn’t call this place a Hotel it was more of an Motel or Inn. I wasn’t happy that I had to spend extra money to book at another accommodation.

The CBD is party central… it was nice to be close, but not staying in the CBD .

Very strong perfume smell in our room. Hard to find your room as it’s a bit of a maze. Staff were very helpful when asked.

The property is clean and comfortable, but I must say the section we were in (1 bedroom apartment) was a little 'tired'.... ie could do with a facelift.

Very poor internet and price was to high

We booked 2x adjoining rooms for the night as we were visiting both MOTAT and the zoo with children. For us it had everything we needed. Good sized rooms with everything you need, indoor pool, restaurant which meant we didnt have to travel for breakfast and dinner. Was ideal location for our planned activities. Staff were lovely and food was great. Would definitely use again.

The property was OK, the owners had just taken over the week we stayed so they clearly hadn't had a chance to settle in. The staff were friendly but inexperienced. The food was OK.

Lovely clean property with good sized room and very nice staff. Only drawback from being perfect was that 1 lock on our window was missing - otherwise great place to stay.

Property is a dated but incredibly clean. It would be awesome if the rooms could have some blackout curtains, but overall it was a comfortable stay. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of smiles from frontline staff would have been nice to receive a friendly reception on arrival and checkout.. Didn't make use of the inhouse restaurant as the wait time for a meal was two hours at the time. Location was convenient. Overall good value for money for a quick in out.

Nice big place

Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and quiet. Delicious breakfast was available in the restaurant area and very convenient.

Its not often I rate places pretty poorly however the Surrey Hotel need to up skill on their hospitality practices. No Hotel Welcome Book available, toilet paper wasnt checked before we entered our rooms , car parks were taken by the Pub customers and some staff weren't very helpful or showed discontent in their jobs sad really considering the great location

Nice little bar and bistro

Excellent Location with convenient parking. Pleasing but dated building with functional but mildly rubbish fittings - Poorly hung doors and fixtures etc. Was some mystery food on the floor when we checked in but other than that it was a clean room. Nice beer on tap.

Great location, handy for what we needed. The coffee table was way to large for room and four people. I badly hurt lower leg on glass corner.

We enjoy the location of this hotel. The pub staff were lovely but hotel staff seemed liked they rather be somewhere else. The room had mold on the windows, there was cigarette burns in the curtains, not dishwashing equipment to clean dishes, and the room wasn't cleaned on the 2nd day of the 3day stay. Enjoyed having a pool available, the pub was great and brilliant food. Pity the spa pool was broken. Great location and free parking where the best part of stay.

Conveniant location

Basic but comfortable.

A basic hotel that’s comfortable for a one night stay. Great location for Grey Lynn.

Perfectly fine room for what we needed.

Room was adequate and comfortable. The hotel itself is a little on the old side and rooms had obviously been recently updated as the stack of fridges by the poolside indicates. Service in the restaurant was slow and some items missed although were added to the bill.

Nice little spot to stay and nice and close to Eden Park.

It is delightfully quirky with its antique furniture and style in public areas

Motel units were lovely and modernised

Surrey Hotel was great we were in the motel units across the road which look a bit dated from the outside, but the rooms inside were all modernised. Only problem is that for all the motel units there is not enough car parks.

Outside is a bit dated but inside the rooms were modern and clean. Good neighbourhood to stay in.

Awesome stay will be back

We stayed in a large suite located at the back of main building. This side of building looks old and derelict and uninviting. Hallway access to room is also dark and uninviting. Room is newly renovated. However it was like an ice box when we arrived with my newborn. Heating was an old thermostat fan heater up on wall. Despite it taking a good 20mim to heat up and having to climb up on chair to work it manually and being rather noisy it did the trick eventually. Could do well with a heatpump tbh. Also missing was an information booklet, room had no information on what ammenities were available, policies etc or any fire safety information etc. this was probably most disappointing. Also, water went out for about half hour that night with no warning, had to ring reception for them to tell us plumber has turned off and will be back on in 20min. No apology either. But water was back on as promised. Thankfully we only stayed one night but overall room was clean and very tidy. Just the few things mentioned that let this motel down. I think once all renovations are finally complete it will be a much nicer experience. Fingers crossed for future guests. Thanks.
