Some good points, some shocking
Overall it was a reasonably pleasant stay. I was not aware - and surprised given the price of the room - that it is not a full service hotel and I'm also surprised that hotels.com does not make this apparent. Some of the staff were lovely, however it was entirely inconsistent (bloke running the bar seemed to be unaware what blended whisky was and whether they had it. Minor point, but odd for a tourist venue in the capital of scotland.) Also, EXTREMELY rude experience from bloke on reception on trying to get a pot of tea from non existent room service. They did make an effort when we complained but it was more 'very sorry for your experience' than 'bloody hell our receptionist said what to you, that's thoroughly unacceptable and here's what we're going to do about it.' Which might, of course, be ok for some people - as might the rudemess. Make your own choice. Only other comment is the quite bizarre decor - it looks like five designers each came up with some ideas and they all got to do what they wanted at once. It didnt detract from our stay, but if you're looking for peaceful - or stylish - 'flow' I'm not sure this is it.
Excellent staff. Clean rooms
Lovely property, friendly, helpful staff. We recommend The Scott to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
The hotel looks stunning, bus stop outside that takes you in the city centre in 10 minutes. Lovely setting plenty of alternative car parks in the ground, might be awkward parking when the University is open. Right by Arthurs Seat which is a must to do for fantastic views over the city.
Very clean room with large bathroom but no bath tub. The room temperature could be on the low side in the winter. But overall very nicely decorated room and nice amenities. Toiletries came in big bottle rather than small plastic bottles. The room size is spacious and fittings are of high quality. Nice breakfast at the dining room. Only two issues we have with the hotel. One is limited parking spaces nearby, sometimes we have to park further away. Secondly the hotel is without lift and could be problematic with luggages though the hotel will get porter to help with carrying the luggage up and down.
Fantastic!
Fantastic stay. Very welcoming reception. Beautiful room and public areas. Great service. Hightly recommended
We had a great time here, highly recommended
Very enjoyable stay lovely hotel , however the 1st morning breakfast was cold on cold plates ,2nd day was much better . The alacarte menu was very ltd choice and also had to ask the waitress if our Main Courses The Monk Fish was meant to be cold as the little white turnips were completely cold and the Monkfish was not even Luke warm. She apoligised and took back to get heated through.once this was done it was ok but by that time we were so disappointed . Then I asked if they made liqueur coffees don’t think she had heard of this. Anyway the answer was no. I should have asked for a coffee and a Liqueur on the side ,but took one of the sweets instead . A bit disappointed because of these hiccups but overall we thought it was a beautiful hotel .
Professional and Friendly staff.
Just a beautiful little boutique hotel with a fantastic staff! Thank you for a lovely short stay.
Would definitely stay again
Fabulous. Would happily recommend
Amazing independent hotel in central Edinburgh. Really good staff. Welcoming, helpful, efficient. Room was spacious , luxurious and comfortable. Great mattress . Had a lovely quiet sleep. Breakfast excellent. Great choice and quality. Beware the electric car chargers. The Tesla one is Tesla only ( unlike most of their Superchargers) and the ChargePlace Scotland ones wouldn’t work from the app. Had to ring ( great customer service) but as couldn’t monitor it on the app, got stung with a £30 overstay charge for staying 15 minutes longer than allowed, which I understand is not from the charger supplier but from Edinburgh council! Nothing to do with The Scott Hotel, who could not have been more hospitable, however. Just be aware and maybe don’t use the EV charger if you have any option.
Nice rooms, very friendly & helpful staff. Room cleaned each day with clean towels. Bed very comfy. Breakfast decent although quality varied from day to day. Couple of niggles: our room was quite cold (it was 0 degrees outside but the old windows struggled). There is no lift too, so bare that in mind but staff did help get one of our two bags upstairs. Restaurant extremely good, well recommended especially for the price.
Excellent small friendly hotel. Last time in Edinburgh we stayed at a large quality central hotel, this was a lot better. Great check in, shown to room on 3rd floor. No lift but happy to help with cases. Quiet area, excellent bus connections to centre. Best was no. 30 from city centre/, 12 minutes to Commonwealth pool stop near hotel. Day bus & tram ticket about £6 or use contactless capped at £6. Evening dined at Scholar adjacent sister hotel good food sensible menu. Other restaurants in the area or wide range in the city. Will be back next time in Edinburgh
Truly a Gem.
Truly a Gem. We elected to stay just out of the city for the free parking and we Ubered into town. The Scott was originally built in the 1770`s and to my un-sophisticated eye - seems to have retained all of its original character, features and architectural features and fittings. They have added all the modern accouterments you would hope (but don't often ) get. Exceptionally clean, well appointed and the personnel are well presented, courteous, and friendly. Often these reviews (not my own, naturellement), have some petty gripe to conclude - I have none, Book, Go, Stay - and be enraptured!
Lovely unique facility. Stay was made great by the staff. Can’t say enough good things about them! Definitely a winner!
Magnífica elección
Execelente hotel. Preciosa Decoracion, ambiente y edificio maravillosos. Muy cerca del centro en una zona encantadora y tranquila, recepcionistas excepcionales. Un diez!
Friendly staff. Clean and well maintained. Best part is comfy bed and good food.
My partner and I loved our stay at the Scott. It’s a nice area and away from the craziness of the royal mile in Edinburgh. The decor and vibe of the hotel is so cool! The room was amazing!! The rooms are very modern with gorgeous bathrooms and showers. The soap and body wash/body lotion smells amazing. The robes and slippers gave it a luxurious feel. We also dined at the restaurant and did the tasting menu. The staff pulled out the red carpet for us it felt like- the tasting menu was incredible! And the presentation and care from the staff was top notch. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and will highly recommend it to others. The staff go above and beyond to ensure your comfort. This place is truly a gem!
Nice!!
Nice hotel in a quiet part of town. Close to walk to some places, but within just a short distance of a bus stop. The room was very clean with nice amenities. The bed and linens were very luxurious. Loved the large shower. Breakfast was reasonably priced and had a nice selection. Would stay here again.
Everything was amazing, the staff from concierge to housekeeping were super friendly and helpful. The only thing which a couple of times at 6 am in the morning there was a lot of banging. But otherwise it was a great experience and will for sure book there again.
Wonderful stay.
What a lovely stay. We didn’t get to enjoy the restaurant since we were out exploring, but the bar area was fantastic and the staff was extremely helpful. Loved the room. It was quiet and cozy. The bed was very comfortable. Would stay here again.
We stayed here a week and a half for our honeymoon. It was lovely! Very helpful staff, comfortable bedding, clean rooms, and a nice breakfast spread. No complaints whatsoever!! It's close to a bunch of lovely shops and places to eat. We did not have a single boring moment the whole trip! The building is old, so lifts aren't available, but that wasn't an issue for us. Would stay here again for sure!
Staying at The Scott was a special experience! The property is gorgeous and the staff was friendly and eager to help. My room was large, nicely appointed, very clean and comfortable. The good was excelllent. One note: there was only one available outlet in my room, and it was nowhere near a mirror. I hope to stay here again (but next time I will bring my lighted makeup travel mirror!)
Rooms were lovely, as was the downstairs rooms. Right in the middle of the student living area
Great location with beautiful rooms. Very helpful and considerate staff.
The room was really very comfortable and the reception and bar staff were absolutely lovely, very good service that made a great first impression. Dining options in the Scott were somewhat limited though, and when dining in the "Scholar", staff there seemed to struggle to do their jobs (didn't write down orders & so kept forgetting what people had asked for, got things wrong, seated a poor woman after the kitchen had closed and didn't know what food on the menu was) so I got a takeaway the next night, which was lovely. I suspect they were all new students and they'll hopefully get better over time! Breakfast was good though, decent selection, good tea, and again, with lovely (competent) staff. My room was made up beautifully whilst I was out, for both days of my stay, and reception staff were extremely helpful in tracking down some stationery items I needed to do some work whilst I was there.
This property is great in every aspect except two. Parking can be difficult as they have limited spots. Also, the dinner. Menu is limited and prices are very high. We did not get dinner while out one day and quickly realized we should ha e. We planned better after that day and found food while out and about. They front desk staff are phenomenal and answered all of our questions and gave us suggestions too. Everyone was polite way beyond what we would expect staying in a stateside hotel. We loved our stay here and highly recommend it.
The staff was amazing. Everyone was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable thank you for making our stay easy and enjoyable.
Staff was professional and friendly.
Above and beyond
This hotel goes above and beyond to make your stay wonderful. No lift though but they are very helpful with the luggage. Will definitely book again!
The Scott is an excellent hotel with staff that is efficient and courteous in all manner. The hotel and property are impeccable with many recent upgrades that create at atmosphere of class. Our finest hotel and stay in a two week trip to the UK and Ireland. I highly recommend booking a room at the Scott.
Could not connect to the wifi 👎👎pretty far walk from main attraction
This was possibly our favorite hotel in a month-long trip in Scotland. It is in an ideal location--close to everything (walkable) but quiet and peaceful. The staff was incredibly helpful and thoughtful especially because the airline lost our luggage. The hotel staff, especially Ashleigh, worked very hard to try to trace the luggage. We were amazed at her persistence and thoughtfulness. Our only quibble about the hotel is that the two places we ate dinner (the only nearby options) were not very good. They were not part of the hotel, but the hotel does not offer dinners. The breakfast, though, was excellent.
The building, staff, location and style were all excellent.
If I'm ever in Edinburgh again, I know where I'm staying. The architecture, the service, the comfort, the location. Immaculate and among our group of 6, it was our favorite stay.
Very nice accommodation, close to a bus that takes you to the Royal mile in only 10 minutes
Charming 18th century estate with easy transportation to the Royal Mile. Old charm with modern amenities. Good restaurants nearby. Excellent and helpful staff.
Beautiful hotel in an amazing setting with delicious breakfast
Out of the city centre but a very pleasant place to stay
Wonderful stay!
The Scott is a fabulous little hotel, clearly newly renovated and impeccably clean but with Scottish charm. Staff are so friendly and helpful, breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had (you can order off a menu and there’s a small buffet). Location was just outside central but a quick 25 min walk to royal mile or just a couple stops on the bus, which stops just outside the hotel. The bed was also so comfortable we tried finding the tags to purchase the same bedding for ourselves!
The building was very unique- you truly felt that you were staying in an old Scottish 19th century home- and yes the staff were great
Everything about this property was very middle of the road, after I eventually found the road in. I would have given it 3 stars but, at ~$300 / night, I expected more.
Close to the bus, quiet neighborhood. Clean, comfortable room. The available breakfast was very good. Coffee machine and water with citrus fruit flavoring it available in the lobby were appreciated more than you would think. Overall, great stay.
Mirror please!
The stay was amazing and staff are excellent. I would only had a full body mirrior in the rooom and maybe a mirror over the coffee bar so it can double as a vanity. I was in room 37 and the only had a small mirror in the bathroom that we had to bend down to use
Great hotel!!!
All the staff were really polite, friendly and helpful from reception desk to the bar (where the chap was very knowledgeable about whiskey!) & again at breakfast. We were upgraded to a lovely room which was a nice surprise & they catered for my vegetarian, gluten intolerant wife for breakfast. Overall a great stay in a lovely hotel which is walking distance to the city centre & we would definitely recomend & use again when we return to Edinburgh.
Wonderful old hotel with great service and staff. The 6 course dinner is not to be missed
Highly recommend
We stayed in room 15 and it was stunning. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean and the bed was really comfortable. We had blackout curtains and the bathroom had a large bath and rain shower and the water pressure was incredible. The breakfast was delicious and came with a well stocked continental option and hot drinks. We would recommend exploring the grounds and relaxing in the velvet room. The hotel was close to the centre of Edinburgh without the noise. We slept very well and would come again. Also you could use the gym and pool they recommend but the commonwealth pool is less than a 5 minute walk away.

It’s a really amazing journey staying at Scott, irrespective of room facility, crew service and behavior, but also the food quality such like the breakfast will give you some refreshment at the very beginning of the day. In short, it’s highly recommended to have some great experience to engage and being with the team and moment in this place.
Wonderful hotel! Super friendly staff!
Great trip.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms very quiet.
Edinburgh
Stayed here for the Edinburgh festival. Perfect place to get away from the madness of the city centre.
The Scott staff was incredibly helpful. The room was nice and the breakfast was tasty.
This was the best place I’ve ever stayed. It’s very cozy and feels safe. I loved the gym on the grounds. I’m really looking forward to going back.
Loved this hotel. Beautiful building, staff was very helpful. We walked to the Tatoo and city centre. Fun atmosphere on campus
The hotel itself is quite beautiful and quaint, on the campus of the university. The staff were kind and helpful. This hotel is a ways from most tourist sites and will require a bus/car and a walk. We struggled to find a good breakfast nearby, but found a few nice cafes about 18 min walk away. The hotel breakfast was not great and the coffees came from a make-it-yourself machine. The hotel wifi was quite bad. We had to leave the hotel to get work done as the wifi would dip in and out constantly, and the connection was overall very poor when it was connected. I’d recommend this hotel for those looking for a more quiet getaway outside of the city center, especially if connectivity is not important.
The staff was always aware of your needs. Meals in the new dining room were beautifully presented and so tasty.
Fabulous location and wonderful people!
Genuine boutique hotel experience in a unique setting on the edge of the University campus.
Absolutely loved our stay at the scott. Top notch service, great location and have I mentioned the staff?? Room was beautiful. Amenities in the room perfection. Breakfast was great. 24 hr coffee/tea station. Whisky bar 12/10.
There are very high quality restaurants at The Scott and its neighboring hotel The Scholar which is a 1 minute walk. The breakfast is excellent as well. Located by a bunch of bus stops which you can buy a 6 dollar bus pass for a day on the bus and tram app for Edinburgh, making transportation to the city very easy. Edinburgh has very nice busses as well.
Gorgeous historic hotel about 1 mile from Edinburgh Royal Mile. No lift for heavy cases. Picturesque gardens. Very beautiful breakfast room. Nice breakfast with a lot of choice. Nice bathroom with large shower. Tea and coffee in room.
Scottish weekend
We had an amazing couple of nights. Loved everything about the hotel, and especially the helpful staff.
The staff were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. From providing recommendations and information on the area, to a warm and comfortable environment. We thoroughly enjoyed our short 2 night stay at The Scott. I can’t wait to make plans to come back!
Beautiful hotel, the design and decor are gorgeous. So artistic! The rooms and bathrooms were spotless. Clean overflow, clean grout, every square inch was clean! Thank you. Beautiful bar and dining room and meeting room. Too bad you can’t have the fireplaces going but the candies are very pretty.
This was a wonderful place to stay. The beds were comfortable. The area was quiet. We loved it
Fairytale
Just an amazing experience at an amazing hotel that felt like being in a fairytale.

Amazing hotel, very welcoming staff and a very high standard throughout. Nothing is a problem. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
An elegant hotel
Ideally situated just out of the ULEZ zone and just a short taxi ride from the Royal mile. Fantastic staff, beautiful decor, clean and dog friendly. Perfect.
The motel is beautiful and the staff first rate. Wonderful stay.
The Scot Hotel - Fab bathroom
Hotel & staff were excellent. The food was fancy but small servings and expensive. The restaurant across the road at the pub was much better value. I think they would do better toning it down a notch and the price down and they would attract many more return guests.
Beautiful hotel
Wonderful stay. One night before flight. Staff was excellent.
Excellent hotel. Had to check out early so couldn't enjoy the breakfast.
The whole experience from the staff, delicious Scottish breakfast to the beautiful hotel and room exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend this place as a top pick in Scotland.
Very close to some beautiful hikes. Easy to access the bus. Such cute decor.
Very poor customer service.
The staff was top notch and the breakfast is excellent.
Beautiful design, incredible staff!
Very nice staff and comfortable room. Could take down some of the ugly paintings and replace with a full length mirror. Mirror in bathroom was children's height.
Am amazing hotel staff absolutely fantastic. Room was large as was the bathroom. Fantastic view of the garden. Free tea and coffee all day. Breakfast was good. Bus stop just outside the hotel to get into Edinburgh city centre.
Excellent experience staying in a castle, the staff was excellent and helped at every turn. The property is not that big but it is very beautiful. The only issue may be is that its a ways to town, but there is a bus if you are willing to ride a bus. Taxi's are easy to get. The Salisbury Inn is close for food and drink, also some other places near by.
Staff was very attentive to every need. Reception welcomed us with a nice drink and walked us to our room. We had a room that had a turret that you could get in and look out at the beautiful landscape. Max, the bartender, was great to talk with. He looked up information and printed it for us before we asked. Breakfast was wonderful.
Strongly recommend
Absolutely delightful. Beautiful building, exceptional service, and very comfortable room. Also close to everything, but set apart enough to be a peaceful refuge.
Great stay in Edinburgh- peaceful and calm
Really welcoming, comfortable hotel -lovely room, beautiful bed and bedding, immaculate bathrooms.
The staff immediately welcomed us with a complementary drink, and helped take luggage up stairs (no elevator, but plenty of rooms ground floor if stairs are an issue). They have a high quality coffee maker available all day, and drinks bar for evening to relax in. I opted for breakfast. In addition to a buffet with meats, bread, cereal, fruit, pastries, they had a number of cooked breakfast options. I recommend the "Scottish". Overall, more than enough to eat and start the day. Staff were very accomodating to requests and extemely friendly. I will stay here again next trip to Edinburgh.
Very helpful and welcoming staff. Gorgeous building. Parking was easy.
Great time!
The Scott was incredible. From the moment I stepped inside the staff were available, attentive, and helpful; they really add to this amazing property. The rooms are beautiful and the breakfast service was great. Walking distance to City Centre makes this a great location. I was concerned driving onto the University of Edinburgh campus but The Scott is a wonderful hotel, perfectly run and a great place to stay!
A beautiful quiet hotel which very comfortable beds and everything you could wish for. We particularly liked the lounge which was always available for free hot drinks.
Spectacular
Would stay again
Well placed hotel for transport into Edinburgh. Very clean, comfortable and well designed rooms and decoration. Friendly, polite staff. Very nice breakfast.
Property was beautiful and made for a very relaxing stay
Very nice
Everyone was so helpful and extreamly nice , we really enjoyed our stay. The room was a perfect size amd the bed was more than comfortable.
Classy and luxurious stay
Beautiful hotel from the building itself to the hotel rooms bar restaurant - beautiful period building design. Room was spacious with a gorgeous bathroom to luxury sitting area. Would definitely stay there again and very close to Arthur’s Seat which makes for a stunning walk with awesome views of Edinburgh

The Best Stay ever!
There are no words sufficient to express the degree to which we loved our stay at the Scott Hotel in Edinburgh. The staff are the nicest, warmest, most friendly people imaginable, and all catered to our smallest - and largest -requests! They moved serving tables to accommodate us and our friends for a supper in their cozy Velvet Lounge, and served the meals from their adjacent Brasserie restaurant, and all with smiles and bonhomie. We felt, not like guests, but lords of the manor! A marvellous p, comfortable and most enjoyable visit.
