The hosts Sandy & Cathy were very welcoming. Once checked into our room we met them along with other guests on their beautiful deck & shared a complimentary glass of wine. Sandy shared many historic stories of the area, very interesting.The room & inn was very clean & the bed very comfortable. We were served an excellent continental breakfast the next morning, Sandy serving it in his kilt. The only issue we found was the air conditioning could have been functioning better on such a hot night.

The Inn and the owners are exceptional 😎. Extremely well done ! Music at the local bar was crazy loud but we will definitely make a return reservation next year.

We arrive 15 min before check in and was told to wait in the parking lot or the garden in the hot sun. The aircon knobs control was removed and was told the aircon was set to maximum. It 35 degrees outside and waited 2 hrs to cool and complained that it was not cooling. We had to fight for the aircon to be fixed and called Expedia to to move us but to no avail

Sandi and Cathy do an outstanding job on the Scotsman . From the time you walk in till you Leave . The ground are beautiful . And so very helpful when travelling from Pictou . We stumbled to the Inn few years ago and have not stop going and will continue . Cheers to All Dee And Kevin. 😊😊❤️❤️

Nice location, convient parking

Very classic and true to period decor and furnishings. Clean and comfortable.

First impressions I was skeptical as to what wife booked but after meeting owner and seeing his renovations I was impressed. Room was small but we were there for short overnight stay so didn't matter.Wife has MS and there were alot of stairs up to room but again short stay.Walking distance to several restaurants with harbor view.Close to ferry terminal and motorcycle parking.Owner very accommodating.

We checked in the Saturday of the Victoria Day weekend. Sandy offered to book us at a restaurant, but it was full so he made other recommendations. The Continental breakfast was good. The room was clean, the bed comfortable. If your looking for a place to stay in Pictou County, I would recommend The Scotsman Inn.

The Inn is beautiful and near many restaurants. The hosts were wonderful and helped immensely with tips and suggestions for our trip to the Cabot Trail. Finally, the breakfast was fresh and tasty (loved the homemade croissants) and served by the one and only Scotsman in a kilt. Enjoyed our time there.

This place was very charming. The hosts were terrific. Very colorful and informative. Upon arrival, after we settled into our room we were invited to sit on their lovely deck and sip some homemade wine while meeting other arriving guests from all parts of the world. Fun experience.

Our host Sandy was great. He was very hospitable and knowledgeable. Very good NS Scottish historian IMO. He also provided many options for sightseeing. The rooms were impeccable

Innkeepers Sandy and Cathy personally renovated this historic building in the heart of downtown Pictou over the past ten years. Their excellent choices in finish, furniture, artwork, and appointments make this a very “Continental” hotel, a traditional bed and breakfast experience. Sandy excels at recommending dining and touring experiences within a short walk or short drive. The Northumberland Shore and Central Nova Scotia have myriad historic and up to date attractions, beautiful beaches, and excellent restaurants. We’re grateful to Sandy and Cathy both for introducing us to this delightful region.

Great place to stay with wonderful inn keepers!! Only problem you have to walk up several steps to get to your room.

Honestly we are not Bed and Breakfast travelers, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The owners of the inn were very helpful and knowledgeable. They gave us directions to give us a more scenic drive to our next destination (so worth it!). The breakfast experience was lovely. Everyone joined in conversation and I learned so much about Canada and its provinces. The Scot’s man who runs the inn is a wealth of knowledge and is very entertaining! I would definitely stay again and would highly recommend!

We have been to Scotland and were hoping this inn would feel like we were back in the UK. We were not disappointed. The host, the accomodations, the decor and the atmospheric spirit were true to the Scottish tradition. We were very pleased.

The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. The patio was lovely for relaxing and chatting with the hosts and other guests. Breakfast was very good. The only issue was the shower was small, but that is a very minor issue.

All round great experience. The owners are cordial and Nancy makes delicious breakfasts and helpful. Sandy makes you laugh in addition to being helpful The Inn is tastefully furnished. Bedrooms are beautiful with all the lotions soft towels high end sheets Would go back in a minute

Our stay at the Scotsman Inn was amazing! Sandy and Cathy are wonderful hosts who welcomed us as if we were family. We met all the guests in the morning at breakfast and got to know them as if they were old friends. Sandy was very knowledgeable and entertaining and gave us great travel advice for our trip to PEI. We will definitely be back when we return to Pictou.

We stayed the night at this lovely Inn. The decor is beautiful inside and handy parking at back of property. We were offered a glass of wine on checking in which was a delightful touch. We had continental breakfast served between 8 and 9am.

The owner let us pick our room on the top floor,picked a view of the Harbor. Very clean room, there was a window air conditioner, but we were able to leave the window open overnight. Would’ve come down this place!

Super cute and comfy/cozy! History runs deep in this inn and the owners Sandy and Cathy make you feel right at home.

Fantastic stay!

This property is a lovingly renovated old building in historic Pictou. Rooms are comfortable but on the small side as befits the style of Inn. Rooms are meticulously clean. Be aware, there are stairs to this property if mobility is an issue. There is a lovely deck garden area for evening drinks and conversation. Breakfast is served with personal attention by our Scottish host! Sandy and Cathy are amazing hosts. They went above and beyond and provided great travel advise for our road trip to Cape Breton.

Nice stay. We were on the top floor, lots of stairs. Bed and pillows were firmer than what we are used to. Very clean. Continental breakfast included croissants and yogurt with granola/fresh blueberries and drinks. Sandy made reservations for us at Nook and Cranny - excellent choice!!

A lovely old building. Quiet, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Excellent hosts, very friendly and accommodating. Who wouldn't enjoy having breakfast served by the host in a kilt? For anyone with mobility issues, there is no elevator. And, a pleasant surprise - no TV - at least not in my room.

I’m on a month long MC trip and once I got out of Yarmouth, I was hoping to find places w a more local flavor. The Scotsman, was. Really charming, it even comes with it own health club experience, no elevator and all the rooms ont he third or fourth floor. Sandy the InKeeper was really helpful, offered his Bike Barn if I wanted tot use it , but suggested even parking on the street would be OK. He event sent me down to I believe the Nook and Cranny, a “locals” favorite for a great meal. I had to get up early for theFerry, so didn’t even get to stay good bye, but if I’m ever in the neighborhood again, I know where I’m staying and would recommend the same to anyone who is interested.

Rude and inflexible hosts!

What was terribly disappointing was the unwillingness of the owners to let us check in after 7:00 pm. Even though they live in the same place, when I called and asked them if we could check in at 8 pm or 9 pm instead of 7 pm they said NO because at that time they would be having dinner, and they would not want to interrupt dinner to have as check in later, so we could be visiting places. Isn’t that what tourist do? They refused and then hang up on me. VERY RUDE!!!

Not only was this property beautiful inside and out, it was squeaky clean and the hosts were very welcoming and kind. We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable stay.

The property is advertised as Inn, but it is not a full service inn. We did not notice the check in time ending at 7 pm. I got anger phone call to tell us that “the Check in is ending, we have to find the accommodation somewhere”. During the whole process, the manager screamed at us and hang up on us twice. The manager was eager to go somewhere. We connected with Expedia agency, the manager also refused to collaborate with Expedia or refund us. We ended up have to find another hotel and paid extra cost. Completely horrible experience!

This was a very unique last minute find for a quick trip and close to the stellarton area right where I needed to get too. The hosts were so kind and personable and engaged in conversation, made sure I had everything I needed. They had a very rustic, scottish feel to it with a great history to go along with it. In the rooms was everything from clean bedding, towels, a dresser if needed, a sitting chair in the corner, two lamps and plugs right by the bed, A/C in the window, shampoo & conditioner, make up remover, cotton pads & q-tips. They had a complimentary breakfast in a beautiful dining room and a back patio with tables and flowers. I will recommend this place to my friends & family and will definitely come back!

Great hosts, property was clean with a great room. Also had a very comfortable deck on second floor to meet with other guests or just enjoy a relaxing time reading a book or listening to music.

Very pleasant owners. Gave us great suggestions for our trip. We used them and they were great. The only thing was they gave us 1 bath towel instead of 2. Over all it was ver good.

The accomodations were lovely and the area is nice, but what made this place particularly special for us was the hospitality of the hosts! Sandy & his wife were very kind and welcoming, they made us feel right at home.

Sandy and Cathy were very helpful and hospitable. I'm 6 feet, 3 inches tall, and immediately Sandy offered us a bed with no footboard. Much appreciated!!! Breakfast was fantastic too. Enjoyed speaking with Sandy as we ate. Will definitely recommend this inn to all.

Sandy and Kathy are amazing host's they keep an extremally elegant, well run, clean, friendly B&B. You can relax on their huge deck with privacy or join in on conversation with other guest's. Your knowledgeable host's can direct or recommend you to whatever your looking for and most of Pictou attractions are in walking distance. they also have private parking and a well maintained garden area to relax. We highly recommend staying more than one night!!

The Scotsman Inn is stunningly well kept and the owners have decorated and furnished authentic to the era of the house. Each room is beautifully presented. A wonderful welcome feel when we all offered a complimentary glass of wine out on the deck. Sandy graciously answered my questions regarding the history of the house as well as his military service. It all tied in so well. Met other very nice guests. Love it.

I found the proprietors to be less than warm. Sandy did provide suggestions for dinner.

This place was fantastic! It had been beautifully renovated and the rooms were appointed with antique furniture and fineries fit for a Scottish nobleman! Breakfast was served in an elegant dining room on fine China. The owner was warm and friendly and gave us a lot of travel tips. A great experience in a fine establishment.

This is a really unique old hotel. Nicely restored and renovated. So many treasures that it feels like a museum! Beautiful grounds and a big old deck for enjoying the fresh sea air. We had a nice room with a king sized bed overlooking the bay. Sandy is a true Scotsman … full of stories and very helpful with information about Pictou and the Maritimes in general. The complimentary breakfast is served in an elegant dining room that makes you feel like royalty!

Beautiful property inside, owners greeted us and showed us to our room. They recommended restaurants and made us a reservation without us having to ask, exceptional experience.

This stay was simply a stop over on our way from Charlottetown to Louisburg. It was an interesting old building and the room was very nicely decorated. The only negative comment is about the host. I guess he fancies himself a character. Unfortunately he fails to “read the room". I have handled his type of schtick and shrugged it off. My wife, however, was not amused. She has a great sense of humour (she lives with me) but this host needs to figure out when his insult comedy is going to far. One other thing … He made a big deal of there being no eating or drinking in the room. He said we could eat it drink on their deck/patio. He even referred us to a notice to that effect posted in the room and having charged previous guests for damaging the “$1000” bedding. Really? Hardly! Ridiculous. There was no metion of any such restrictions in any booking information. This is an out of the way mediocre “inn"/hotel. I guess he doesn’t really want repeat customers. Shame.

We wish we had stayed more than one night! Host was VERY personable, afternoon cocktails and music were appreciated and breakfast was light, but fabulous! Host was very helpful.

A beautiful building with tons of heritage run by an incredible couple. The Scottish heritage on display is mind blowing and Sandy is part of a dying breed - someone who appreciates that service is a dying art.

The host’s personalities were a bit abrasive. They were quite stingy with the breakfast portions, ie, one was allowed about a tablespoon of granola, etc.

Friendly innkeepers. Reception is on the second floor and rooms are 1-2 above - steps only. Our room was good sized with a water view. No TV and tiny shower. Generally happy with our stay.

A very nice Inn for an overnight stop

A unique Inn with beautifully appointed rooms. Sitting on the deck in the evening was very nice. Parking on the premises was nice and easy for unloading/loading our vehicle.

The Inn is housed in a beautiful, stately building in the heart of a lovely seaside town. Unfortunately, the owner was rude on several occasions, which lead to us feeling like more of a nuisance than paying customers.

For travellers looking for the usual hotel-chain accommodations, this place isn't for you. But for those interested in a comfortable room in a character-rich historic building hosted by accommodating and entertaining hosts, this is your place. It's a great value and will remain one of the highlights of our maritime trip. Having the "bike barn" for our motorcycles was the cherry on top.

Arrogant owners. I would stay at chain hotels just to avoid dealing with such people in the future.

Stayed here last year and we liked it so much we returned this year and stayed longer. Owners are fantastic in all the ways you can think. The Inn was so great. They make everyone feel at home.
