My wife loved staying there and it is convenient
It was close to Toji temple. 7-8 minds from the train stop. 1 train stop from Kyoto station. Calm area. Great service and easy going.
1 stop and 10 min walk from Kyoto Station. Very clean and modern. Typical small room, especially as they fit a futon in for the third person. Price was a little high. Convenience and grocery stores around the corner. Small kitchenette was convienent.
We have a nice large room that included a kitchenette and our own washing machine in the bathroom. No t.v thou but didn't miss it as we were out all the time.
Nifty Spot
A good location that is right on the local bus routes and a fairly easy walk from Kyoto station (barring one large pedestrian overpass). Having Toji temple right outside the door and down the street was really cool. In-room laundry was a blessing and they provided a rack for drying, which was fun. The desk folk we encountered were all bilingual, which made chatting and getting settled easy. We checked our bags upon arrival (we arrived before check-in) and discovered upon returning that they’d just been left in the entryway largely unattended for 7 hours in full view of the street. Japan is very safe, but even so we were a little uneasy with that - we would have appreciated them being moved into the office. Bedding is traditional futons on tatami, so if you’re not used to that it can be a bit firm. I was fine. We had three futons in our room, so my partner doubled-up after the first night and was then fine also. Considering the hotel was built recently, the lack of a lift feels like an oversight. It’s only three stories, but if you have mobility issues it could be frustrating. The only other issue we had was that we found our room smelled a bit as if something had got wet and never quite dried properly. Everything seemed clean and fresh, but we noticed the smell every time we re-entered the room. It faded from notice after you’d been in a little bit, but it was noticeable for us. Other than that, a lovely spot. A good closet and kitchenet with pots and pans.
Good location and still
Really nice room like an appartement in Kyoto. We felt like locals for 3 nights The + : location + staff + design + washing machine I side the room + kitchen The- : a bit to much light in the morning no proper curtains and a bit noisy from the street
Beautiful, spacious room. Quiet location. Washing machine in the bathroom. Friendly staff. Short walk to the train and an even shorter walk to busses. A little out of the way from the main tourist spots, but I count that as a positive, and it doesn’t take long to get to those spots using transit. Only 3 storeys and no elevator.
Nice close to the public transport and central .
Is a nice cozy place, very convenient to access to all the attractions and restaurants, the room is clean and neat, we enjoyed here very much and will come back again.
Nice hotel nearby transport and a corner store.
The hotel staff member was very polite and the room was clean. The room lacked a TV and elevator, but did have: - a western toilet - a washing machine - a cook top and sink. - a double bed and a Japanese bed in the same room - proximity to cheap restaurants - proximity to a convenience store that has an ATM that handles international cards - Toji rail station is easily walkable and there is a bus stop across the road from the convenience store to get to Kyoto station. Overall I'm very pleased with this accommodation as a budget option and would definitely stay here again.
Do consider putting up a notice at entrance door
Property still new or very well kept. Very happy with everything. It would be helpful if the property could put a sign at their entrance door for guests who arrive before 10am that they can enter the property and wait at reception area. Many guests assumed the entrance door is locked and waited outside the property.
Excellent place to stay for a night.
Nice Hotel
Good hotel. Clean and spacious. 10mins walk from Toji Station. 5 mins walk from Toji Weekend Flea Market. Easy access to Kyoto place of interest with Kyoto day pass by bus
The GREAT Pagoda Experience
The Pagoda Experience was great! The front desk gave us great recommendations and hotel was walking distance to Toji Temple. Only downfall is there are no elevators, so you need to carry your luggage up and down narrow flights of stairs.
Pleasant stay
The place is a little on the small side and located quite a distance from the tourist areas but the hotel is clean and modern and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
Room with three futons suitable for one
We booked a room with 3 futons. I lived in Japan for a while and I am aware that hotel rooms are often small. But usually one can sleep comfortably in a good Japanese hotel. This room however was not suitable for 3 futons at all, and our sleep was not comfortable. It could be a good room for only one person. There is tatami (elevated bamboo rug) area, where two futons fit only if one is brushing window shades and touching a large (floor to ceiling window). In December, touching that window in sleep was very cold. The third futon is off tatami area, on bare floor, which was even colder in December. The room was on third floor, no elevator. Mostly clean, but some (not our) hair in the bathroom. About 20-25 minutes walk from the Kyoto train station.
New hotel for active people
I booked this place for 3 nights. Could only stay one night, lost 2 nights lodgings, about $..... My loss.. The futon were thin, hard on my back. No television. There was no elevator, had difficulty carrying luggage up to 3rd floor. I have knee problems so complained about the lack of. Staff could not compromise or make adjustments so we left. No restaurants in hotel nor nearby. Convenience store was near which is good for young people who are willing to climb 3 flights and cook for themselves. -After I returned home, I went back to check on the posted information, nowhere was there any statement re lack of elevators and proximity of eating places. These are important points I check when booking a hotel as I have arthritis and view convenience as a necessity. I assumed there was an elevator which was my fault. I have learned an expensive but valuable lesson. The hotel wasn't totally unacceptable as it was a fairly new facility and most amenities were new. .
Apartment hotel in a nice/quiet area
My family and I stayed here for 4 nights. My room (with my husband and kid) for the first 3 nights was great. It was clean and felt homey. There’s a big grocery store near by (on the way to Toji train station) where we got our food to prepare in our room (there’s a full kitchen and a washer!) And we got to do our laundry, too. When my husband left (his trip was shorter), my kid and I shared a room with my parents and we got a new room. It wasn’t as clean. The plates in the kitchen were wet and things were less organized. Still good but not as good my the room I had prior nights. I enjoyed the location of this hotel. It’s about 15 minute commute to Kyoto Station by train (5 min walk to Toji station then Toji station to Kyoto Station, 1 stop) or about 20 min walk to Kyoto Station. My 5 y/o and I hauled/strolled our luggages through the neighborhood (which was lovely). It was totally manageable. The famous Toji temple is located across the street of the street that leads to the Hotel. Bus stops are near by as well. Many restaurants and coffee shops are around, some open 24 hours. The only downside of this is there is no elevator. If I get to come back to Kyoto, I’d stay at this place again.
Nice staffs but the room was not clean enough for me
Nice cosy hotel
A Cosy and compact hotel which provides everything you might need.
VERY FRIENDLY, HELPFUL STAFF, CLOSE TO CITY
The place is almost brand new and everything very clean. It has everything we needed for a 5 day stay: washing machine and little kitchen for breakfast and evening meals sometimes. There were 3 of us in the room so it was a bit cramped but it suited us fine as we were out most of the time. It is a 5 minute train ride into Kyoto Station or a 20 min bus ride into the centre. The price reflects the fact that it isn't in the centre of town, but it's quiet with local supermarkets. The staff could not have been more helpful and keen. English spoken.
Quiet and comfortable hotel in Kyoto
We stayed here for several days, and it was a great location and experience. The bus lines are close and there's a Lawson, grocery store, and several restaurants nearby, including a delicious tofu ramen shop across the street. We bought our all day bus tickets at a transit station just a few blocks away. The hotel includes a kitchen, fridge, washing machine, and cookware. The hotel host, Kohei, was personable and clearly enjoys helping visitors. He was a great source of local tips and recommendations. We enjoyed our time at the Pagoda Experience and recommend it if you want to stay in a quieter part of town and experience sleeping on tatami floors!
The Pagoda Experience
Nice hotel near a temple with a 5 story pagoda. New and a little difficult to find for our taxi driver. We had to call the reception and have them provide directions. Not within walking distance of major restaurants or shops although there are a few local restaurants with good food and reasonable cost which the helpful reception staff at the hotel can guide you too. We were only staying one night and moving on so the location was nor a big deal. Room was decent size and clean with a refrigerator, a hot plate and a washing machine. Overall I would recommend.
Incredible value for money
Comfortable spacious rooms with pleasing Japanese decor and huge (for Japan) modern bathrooms. Washing machine in bathroom! All areas of apartment pristinely clean. Staff very friendly and spoke good English. Great location. Outstanding value for money. Only drawback is that the seating in the room is a tatami mat which may not be comfortable for all guests.
An arty haven in Kyoto.
Excellent stay. The accommodation was more like n apartment with all of the mod cons required - cooker, microwave, fridge, washing machine, dryer. No TV, but that was no problem and the hotel was located near an exceptional temple too. When we checked in the Receptionist was extremely helpful and showed to our room, explained how to use the facilities (air conditioning was particularly welcome) and showed us where the local supermarket was. He even gave us tourist advice on what to see and how to use the local transport - (a day bus pass only cost 500 Yen and is brilliant value). We loved the hot l and would definitely stay there again and the room price was excellent.
We liked this property
Pleasant two-night stay. The receptionist was very helpful. There is even a washing machine in the bathroom!
Clean
Nice hotel with friendly staff
The staff is super friendly he also recommended a place to stay and visit for the next days. He is also very informative about the city which helps us a lot. Also the place is clean and have a washing machine (free) and you can dry your clothes in the bathroom where they have heater. The place is around 5-10 mins walk from the station.
Very nice place to stay in kyoto. Very close to station and room spacious with kitchen and laundry!
Excellent price value and friendly service
The hotel is very new, and although a bit small, you have everything you need. The location is a quiet area close to the Kyoto main train station and bus stops. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would go here again.
Good place for family or small group
Self-checkin, the owner Tomo san provides detailed and clear directions so it easy to access. Location is just 1 minute walk distance from Nishinagahori station, 3 stops to Namba. Convenience store and grocery store all nearby. For the room itself is quite big and clean, a good recommendation for family or small group (4 adults) stay with reasonable price.
The best comfortable hotel
It is like a one bedroom apartment. Hotel does not have any facility, only wi-fi. But going to Kyoto in April, you probably will be out all day, visiting temple, mountain, seeing cherry blossom, street food in Nishiki market,,,, so any additional facility is not necessary. You just need to have a good Japanese bathroom, one you can shower, and bath separately, and this hotel DOES give you the one you need. And after shower, you need to have a good sleep to recover your energy for the next day. This hotel does have a good working refrigerator and some cooking ware, so you can grab some food from near by super market and cook some simple food for your stay at night before bed.
Good place, bad location
My hotel experience is partially influenced by my interaction with Expedia. I've lived in Kyoto before, so I know the geography. My original booking, by Expedia, cancelled and so The Pagoda Experience was the closest hotel I could get to Kyoto station. All of my business was near Kyoto station/5th block AND at night so the location was not good. The room was very good, simple and clean. Looked more like a residence inn than anything else, with a kitchen and laundy devices. However, I had to walk up the stairs to my 2nd floor room and I had to contact the hotel because I was checking in late. These are major inconveniences for travelers in my situation and at the posted room rate. Overall, the hotel is very nice, but the location isn't that good and the operations should be more geared towards my situation for the room rate.
The Pagoda experience
The hotel is nice, difficult to find for the taxi Drivers but you can get there easily by bus from the train station. No breakfast locations near the hotel. The hotel has no lift. Japanese style for the room
Brand new hotel, very clean, small rooms
The hotel, aslo known as The Pagona Experience, is brand new. The rooms and everything is new, so this is a huge positive aspect. The rooms are very well equipped, the bathrooms very technological and the amenities very nice, but they are small: this is in line with the typical japanese standards, but there was hardly sapce to open the luggage. The service was ok, kind and friendly, English not spoken too well but enough to exchange information. The area is not central and the subway not too close, but it is not bad and for the price we paid we could not expect an hotel located downtown
Beautiful hotel with art frame!
The hotel was very beautiful with Japanese traditional fabric. It is very close to kintetu touji station and walk-able distance from Kyoto station so it is very convenient to move another place. Hotel front desk has bus guide map with verity language and they explain how to go main tourist spot for me. The staff was very kind for everything I ask. This hotel is super close to touji temple which is very famous tourist spot so we can enjoy the temple early in the morning. And also I could feel safety in the room because the main door in the hotel is opened by room card key .The room is super clean and well equipped. We can cook in the room and washing our laundry. And the art frame in the room was very impressive. I had a fantastic time during my stay and I highly recommend this hotel. I will choose this hotel if I could come to Kyoto again.
Clean hotel, near bus stop
Actually we had a hard time finding the hotel since they changed its name and did not inform us. So we just relied on the address that was printed on my confirmation voucher. We have been going round the neighborhood looking for the hotel, finally we found it thanks to some locals who helped us. When we got to the hotel there was a name outside the front wall but it was another name. But once we found it we did not have a hard time going back to it. It is very accessible to the bus stop and near Toji Temple. We also liked the room which was clean and complete. Everything looked new. The staff was also very helpful and apologetic when she found out that we were not informed of the name change. They were very strict with check out. We were late getting back for like 20 minutes and when we got there the cleaning lady and staff was in our room packing our bags. We did not complain anymore, we just got out bags then left. Over all our experience was a mix of good and bad. Hopefully this will not happen to their other guests.
This is a good hotel and the price is not expensive.

Excelente hotel!!!
nice
room is nice but no tv
Hyvä hotelli
Siisti ja uusi hotelli. Mukava ja auttavainen henkilökunta. Etenkin mies. Hyvä sijainti. Kauppa ja metropysäkki lähellä sekä toji temppeli. Huoneessani pyykinpesukone ja muut tarvittavat. Wifi. Ainoa huono puoli oli ettei ollut hissiä.
Reasonable hotel close to Kyoto station
Reasonable and clean hotel close to Kyoto station (15-20 minutes walking), the Toji pagoda and a bus stop is just around two hundreds meters away. The hotel has cooking plate, fridge, microwave and washing machine, a shower and bathtub.
Excelente

Nice hotel, staffs are knowledge
Nice hotel which nearby renowned sight seeing. staffs are knowledge with excellent English. Very helpful starting from booking to check out. Detail minded staff, a tour guide provided when check in.
Kyoto loved it
When traveling around on light luggage the washing machine was a real bonus. Area is convenient for train station. Can feel a little far out from nightlife area. Host is very good at communication and early bag drop is catered for.
