Excellent facilities, host was very helpful.
This was an excellent stay. The host was very helpful, and happy to talk. The venue would be lovely for a wedding, especially in summer when the garden is in full bloom.
Wonderful stay!
We had a wonderful 2 night stay! The owners and staff were so friendly and helpful. Our studio unit was spotlessly clean, well equipped and so cozy. The beds were amazing and comfy. The gardens were beautiful and such peaceful surroundings. Look forward to staying again
Has extremly beautiful garden. We were so glad to choose this place. Room is clean and big. Seperate toilet and shower.
Historical facility with accomodating and u derstanding management. Wouldove to stay there again.
Nice hotel/motel with a lot of history
My husband and I stayed in the motel section of The Mill House for 2 nights. There are premium hotel rooms in the beautifully restored Mill House as well. These rooms don't tend to show up on hotel booking websites since they focus on the cheaper priced rooms. If you want to stay in the historic Mill House, you should call the hotel directly. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The gardens here are so beautiful. This place is right next to the River and a historic bridge built in the 1800s. I highly recommend staying here.
Motel unit in beautiful garden
Historic old stone built mill in an amazing garden setting on a river bank. A profusion of flowers, shrubs and trees If you're a gardener you'll love it. Our host, Malcolm, regaled us with the story of the mill and the unique skewed arch bridge beside it. The unit in the garden was equipped with everything we could need and the bed was the most comfortable of any we had slept in so far in New Zealand. Thanks Malcolm
Plenty of character.
Beautiful old mill with gorgeous garden near a river setting. Very peaceful and relaxing.
Wonderful Stone Mill Converted to a Hotel
Wonderful three story old mill nicely concerted into a nice new hotel with the charm of 3' stone walls. Spectacular 2 acre garden. Additional rooms in the garden area. Nice owner hosts. Highly recommend a stay there.
excellent hotel, friendly welcome, lovely room, will most certainly go back
Very nice place, suggest youu visit Vanessa's Country Cafe in Hampden for breakfast
Good could of been better
Booked twin room and received large family room which was cold and dark, due to length of stay wanted to change to opposite side which staff were unable to accommodate. Staff were freindly and good range of non cooked breakfast.
unusual place
Booked online. Thought we were going to stay in nice old three storey "Mill House". Bit disappointed when accommodation was 100 meters away in much more modern unit. Even though unit was substantial distance from main south highway and parallel train line, noise penetrated the room which kept my wife awake. Asked owner about noise before we stayed and he said they were used to it, not a worry. Bed was huge but not comfortable.Total lack of hanging space, not even a towel rail in bathroom.
Historical place
Amazing stay in historical place, great place for a family or couple.
The toilet paper
The toilet paper was the thinnest we have ever used as was the toilet seat and no plug in sink. Lovely building helpful staff comfy bed good lounge.
Nice hotel a reasonable distance from Omaru
Malcolm was very friendly. We spoke about their serving breakfast, which would make the place perfect! Great stay!
Lovely spot, lovely hotel, lovely people
Clean comfortable and modern unit, super shower
This a quiet location quite isolated location some distance from the nearest town, We were here to see the blue penguins. Very dark drive back to the Mill house at least minute drive. We stayed 2 nights and the 2nd day we used as a rest day as other than visiting the penguins and a ride on a vintage train there is not much going on. Back at the Mill House We relaxed on the deck area with a glass of wine and a short walk along the river bank.
A restful retreat
Good quiet location, easy to find, interesting history. Handy to amenities. Would stay again.
Excellent, great room, beautiful surrounds, have already recommended to friends.
Lovely place to stay
Ver friendly owner/operator beautiful building and lovely surrounds. Recommend
Interesting place and lovely gardens.
Good stay in lovely surroundings. Good luck to the owners to complete their prolject of renovating the property.
Lovely old mill
very nice stay here. with extra guest lounge with tea and coffee. small fridge for guests.
noise from train line and road
lovely garden huge big lovely rooms with great view to garden , but also very large trucks on nearby road and we were awoken by trains at night . Brilliant place if you are use used to road and train noise but we are not alas
Beautiful garden setting
I stayed in the studio room which was surrounded by beautiful garden. At the back was garden furniture over looking the river, if the weather had of been nicer it would have been an ideal place to sit and relax. Very friendly and helpful staff also.
Excellent value motel
We found everything to our liking. Very nice grounds, very clean and comfortable at at good price. No bells and whistles but as local travellers that suited us fine. The dining room is only open when tour groups are staying, but we had our own breakfast and a good kitchen in our unit. The manager/owner direct us to the Moreiki Tavern for a meal and we were not disappointed with that suggestion Great meals there, affordable. We had an interesting day exploring the Katiki Lighthouse and wildlife in that area, a hidden gem and walking the Millennium Track at Moreiki.. We stayed in the more spacious superior motel unit which was very comfortable. There are two of them in the motel block, if when booking you get a choice ask for the end unit which has much more light in it than the one next door due to the end windows. However no complaints.
Has a heart-touching environment
Enjoyed a lot in outer garden. Very calm and relax place. Hope to visit again in a holiday !!
Classy and a little bit different
Wow. What an amazing place to stay the night, beside the river and listening to the tuis in the trees. I felt like a princess staying in the Mill House itself. I really appreciated that the owner rang around Hampden to find out where I could get a meal.
Great stay!
Very quiet and nice. Beds were good with luxury bedding
Super comfortable, beautiful, spacious, clean and great value. Really enjoyed our time at the Mill house, lovely owner was very helpful too. Definitely will be back!
Great
Beautiful, clean period building. Staff were great and super helpful and room was clean and comfortable. Guest lounge was wonderful and the gas fire kept us wam.
Great place to stay if passing thru. was a real pleasant surprise. Thank you.
Relaxing and pleasant 2 night stay
The unit was spotless and the owner was very friendly and helpful. Lovely pleasant gardens. We knew it was close to a main road and railway line so took ear plugs for sleeping so had no problems. The restored Mill house is a delight to have a wander through.
Nice hotel
Good, comfortable bed with essentials, good staff to deal with
Real good one
very good hotel with a calm creek and an old bridge beside.
Enjoyed our stay although it was only one night. Pleasant surroundings and not too noisy even though it was on SH1.
住房靠近高速公路,晚上太吵,影响睡眠。
Directly on high way, easy to reach. Clean room, fornitures are new. No kitchen or laundery room.
Nice and romantic hotel
We arrived a little bit late. The receptionist was very friendly. He already heat our room, because it was very cold outside. Good beds, nice room.
The Mill House is beautiful and the whole property is a lovely garden. We really enjoyed staying there. You can hear the highway but it's not bothering. We just missed a table and a second chair in our apartment unit because it was a rainy evening. On sunny days you can use the lovely outdoor seating.

Appeared to be only ones there on night of stay. Room clean but dated. Staff had turned on heating in room prior to arriving as chilly, nice touch.
