We had ants on the countertops and by the sink in the kitchen and gnats flying around everywhere. There is a lot of fake plants that were just collecting dust, they should just remove them…. Looks as though they haven’t done a deep cleaning in awhile but beds were comfortable and didn’t bother complaining at the time we just adjusted
Great location and staff!
Listened to the waves crash - peaceful
Loved listening to the waves crash on the cliffs below. Took severals long walks along the Sunset Cliffs. Just a few minutes drive to the shops and restaurants in Pacufic Beach.
This property was very highly rated in its reviews. I have never been to San Diego prior to this visit and had no way of knowing what to expect. The hotel was probably very pretty at one time. It has a beautiful courtyard balanced with an incredibly inconvenient construction project where guests should be sitting in peace watching the Pacific. The hotel staff is very nice but the facilities need work. The room I stayed in was nice, but not for 2 people. There was nothing to sit on except a bed. I stayed below a family with children. The noise mirrored that of a horse trotting over the floor boards. There are only 3 places within a few blocks you can order "food", not forgetting there is a gas station and liquor store close by. The next decent restaurants are about 1.5 miles. Only good for those driving. If I returned to San Diego I would stay in Pacific Beach or the Mission Beach area. Everything you need is there. When you stay at the Inn, it is only for the basics. In exchange for almost 200 per night, you will get an Ocean view (no access). I believe it is overpriced based on its current circumstances. Perhaps when the Inn has been renovated, there will be a vending machine area and a way to access the water. Thank you!
Beautiful, clean comfortable 2 bedroom right on the water. The pool was warm and sunset viewing was perfect.
Cute rooms. Be sure to call and see if there is construction going on as the cliffs are being shored up, and it can get noisy.
Great Care given
Excellent room service for towels and cleaning!
Beautiful and peaceful. Saw the post about cockroaches and was super paranoid about that…so, even as I looked for them I didn’t see a single bug. Super clean all the way around. We just love this spot
Charming Inn with a Gorgeous View
This was a great place to stay on vacation in San Diego. It's location right on top of Sunset Cliffs was amazing and we loved watching the sun go down over the water at the edge of the cliffs. A charming little place that was surprisingly quiet given the number of folks staying there, we would definitely stay here again if we evert go back to San Diego.
This is our favorite place to stay once a year. We watch the sunset every night. It’s quaint, quiet and relaxing. We love it!
Beautiful spot, lovely gardens, friendly staff. Rooms were clean and lots of space, though many small bugs came out of baseboards at night. Construction starts early and the staff made sure we were warned about this.
Wish we could have stayed longer.
Lovely
Super cute hotel, clean room and beautiful view.
Comfortable and cozy. Rooms are small but had everything you need. Location is great! Staff at desk was very friendly. There was some construction our first day but they aren’t working on the weekends
Excellent hotel with nice pool, great room, and sound of the crashing ocean waves!
Location is pretty nice. Landscaping on property well taken care of. As for the room well thats another story. T.vs didn't work. U couldn't watch any channels and wi fi doesn't work either. Walls between room are very thin and u can hear everything from oter rooms. If you are staying in the bottom rooms u will hear people walking on top floor rooms. Beds are very uncomfortable and noisy (very cheap sping beds) for the price u are paying for a night there. Again the view from the inn are beautiful and Location is pretty decent.
Loved it
The stay was ok. It's definitely more of a motel vibe. The location and view from the property are wonderful. The room was clean. Recommend not getting a room on the first floor because you will hear everything in the rooms above. The biggest bummer resulting in an average review is that two other groups at the hotel were SO loud at night, running around and yelling way past quiet hours. There is staff on site 24/7 but they did nothing to help keep the space quiet for people trying to sleep. I get people are on vacation and want to have fun but I'd hope the staff would help keep it an enjoyable environment for all patrons, especially when its 1 AM.
Super cool vibe at this place. They had live music by the pool on Friday and Saturday night that was excellent. They are redoing the patio by the water, but once that is done it will be amazing. Staff was great too.
We stayed for a couple of nights here. The place was beautiful and provided a great view over the Pacific Ocean. The rooms were great, and reasonable spacious. The only thing that could have made it better was if the blinds were able to blockout more of the lights that run all night in the courtyard. Would happily go back again.
This inn is an off the beaten path gem. Quiet and very clean. The Pacific surf was washing onto the rocks right outside our windows lulling me to sleep. You do need a car. There is very little within walking distance so be sure to have a vehicle as depending on ride shares would be expensive and inconvenient. There is a pretty pool area and nice lounge space overlooking the water. No bar or restaurant.
Best view ever!
Amazing time! Will be returning!
Anniversary weekend-24
The view is amazing. We enjoyed the nostalgia of the hotel. The fridge was loud, blinds were broken and the room was small but comfortable. We would come back.
Enjoyed our stay. Nice, helpful staff. Beautiful view. We had everything we needed. The pool heater was not working so we did not use the pool, unfortunately. But otherwise, great stay.
The best
It was breath taking....I loved it so so much!
Beautiful and clean place. Enjoyed my stay. Gorgeous views of the ocean.
A beautiful place and friendly staff.
It was right on the ocean and had some breahtaking views. There is some construction going on outside the property that might be a drawback for folks.
Great experience
I didn't like the parking lot
The location is beautiful, but the parking for customer is too limited.
Property is (was?) lovely…. However major construction occurring throughout our stay (to the property)… it would have been nice to have been alerted…. Or offered discount.
Love this place!
We enjoyed our 3 night stay. It’s an old property but the rooms are nicely outfitted. The amenities are very low with no breakfast.
Liked everything. Would have been even better if the area below the patio was still intact. Can’t really blame them for Mother Nature.
Great views on the ocean walkable to the cliffs and downtown OB Love the place and will return again soon.
Nice, quaint place.
Cute little place, rooms are very small but are good for 1 or 2 nights. Smaller pool, no hottub. A lot of the patio overlooking the ocean is closed due to a storm from 2019 and they haven’t fixed it due to cost apparently. But very limited patio seating area. Still a pretty view and very nice staff. Good friendly vibes. Beds were comfy.
Charming hotel. Great staff and experience at the hotel. Area around the hotel is pretty walkable with a couple food options nearby.
This was a wonderful experience. The staff was very helpful and kind! Clean room and fully supplied. I will be staying here again!
Location is superb with beautiful view of sunset. Nice pool.
Lacation was right next to the cliffs, private viewings if the ocean, clean and organized.
The staff and view are second to none, but this is not a hotel, this is a motel with a view. The air conditioning doesn't work in the bedrooms, the property is in disrepair (cracked tiles everywhere, lower balcony is unsafe to walk on) and the rooms are very noisy at night. Over priced for what it is
This place is amazing the flowers in the courtyard were unbelievably beautiful. When I lived in San Diego we went to the Lutheran Church across the street and always wanted to stay at this hotel. Came back for my son's graduation from SDSU and knew where I was going to stay. I loved it.
Peaceful and Lovely
The place is as beautiful as it looks. It was immaculate, the staff was friendly and accommodating. Terrell made our stay at the Inn the best. It was quiet and peaceful. We loved it and plan to go back again.
Perfect getaway achieved at the Inn @ SC
Really great experience at The Inn @SC.The staff were all A+ and went out of there way to help with any issues I had. Family friendly, a concern at first, were all the kids and pool noise and the thumping above me. Come sunset,it got super quiet the rest of the night! All 4 nights, once sunset hit,it was quiet with just the ocean sounds. Respectful familys are always a plus. Beautiful sunsets and I must say watching them from a private patio was awesome. Only hiccups I encountered was the room wasnt ready until 6 pm,but I hung out on patio and had dinner. The bed wasnt the softest and no chair to sit on in room.
Very beautiful spot - staff was super friendly and helpful.
Perfect Location
Beautiful location. Extraordinary sunsets every night. Staff was excellent as well. A perfect hidden gem in San Diego! We would definitely stay here again. Overall, 10 out of 10.
A little gem
Beautiful location. Extraordinary sunsets every night. Staff was excellent as well. A perfect hidden gem in San Diego! We would definitely stay here again.
Spectacular views and sunsets! Room was clean with partial ocean view. Patio area was awesome and very clean and was never too crowded. Pool was maintained daily although it didn't open till 9:00; it could be open earlier. No beach front.
This is an adorable little place. It felt like an apartment I could stay in for a long time. We stayed one night with a family of 6 and were very comfortable. Waking up to a view of the ocean was such a joy. It is also very conveniently located to Ocean Beach, Tide Pools, and restaurants.
I liked the hotel near the beach on cliffs and view. I liked the singer that night entertainment. I did not like when we showed up at 230 to see if we can check in early for our 3 checkin and the boy said it hasn’t been cleaned yet to come back at 3 or after. So we left and returned after 3 to a different employee saying the room was still not ready and then gave us another room because luckily one is cleaned. Really when I pay over $300 for a room when I can check in at 3 I would prefer to get in at that time after along 3 hour trip with kids.
Nice place
The staff was great and helpful. We had the 2 bedroom suite The room was very clean and spacious. Live music in the evenings added a great touch. Some of the outdoor furniture was worn and could use replacement. I will definitely be back.
Quiet. Clean and the most beautiful sunset ever. Easy check in and out. Super nice staff. Mission beach only a few miles away. The hotel is on a cliff. Added to the beauty on the sound of the surf all night was so relaxing.
I loved staying here very much. The staff was friendly, the location was gorgeous and the room was nice! The only very minor thing for me, as an introvert, was the live music on Sunday night (as well as Friday and Saturday). The performers were good, but the extra noise made it hard to relax. But I also understand that others enjoy it…
Ocen views, nice warm pool, friendly staff.
Nice place but a bit old
The location is beautiful. The hotel is somewhat dated and the rooms are very small. Unfortunately the cliffs that the hotel sits on are crumbling rendering one of the hotel decks unusable. The rooms are very clean and the staff was wonderful
Million Dollar views!!!
Would 100% stay again! The outside, needs a little love in the way of freshening but inside the rooms are super clean and renovated to include everything you need. The rooms are a little on the small side however the location (15 minutes from Balboa Park, LaJolla and Coronado) makes up for it. Also, you cannot beat the view. You are literally right on the waters edge - watching sunsets every night, dolphin swim by, seals etc. and there is a beach a tiny walk from the hotel. You will not find a concierge or a valet however when you have a view like this - who needs it? The area is super safe with dining walkable. Also, Sea World is probably a 7 minute drive. My only negative comment which did not effect us as we were on the first floor is I thought the stairs were a little dicey for us older folks. Thank goodness it did not matter and there are different staircases that may be better - which I did not check out.
Beautiful ocean views
Ocean views!
We rented five rooms for our family vacation. We have been coming here for years and love the Inn at Sunset Cliffs!
Charming hotel
Remarkable ocean views just outside of our room. A quaint older style hotel that was very clean and had friendly.
Staff was great.
This is such a charming place with amazing views and just a calm quaint atmosphere.
Lights in main share area didn't work. It was hot weather and fan in one room didn't work. One bathroom to share with 6 people was inconvenient.
The mattress is very soft, my back hurts and I couldn’t sleep well 3 nights. Otherwise, everything is satisfied.
Great location. Lovely room. Only complaint is that it would have been helpful to have written instructions for using TVs. The guy at the desk did help set us up when we couldn't figure things out.
Pretty view from hotel and great customer service. There working on deck tho so there's no beach access from hotel.
Great place and the location is awesome!! This is an older place with “older place” issues though. Our room was small and simple. We were on the bottom floor, next to the office. The family above us had a little one with them so as every child does, they ran around and jumped and jumped and jumped. Normally not an issue, however this is an “older place” so we heard and seemed to actually feel all of the jumping. The TV worked fine, the fridge kept our drinks cold, and we stayed comfortable each night. Bed was a bit uncomfortable and probably just needs to be replaced. Showering posed a slight problem only because the drain seemed to be clogged so in order to keep the water from over flowing over the small curb, we had to shower quickly. The outdoor patio area was great. Multiple tables and chairs to sit and relax with the great view and ocean breeze. Still a great stay and we do plan to go back but we’ll probably request an upstairs unit and hopefully the shower will flow better.
Would recommend
Cute little inn right on the ocean with live music on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. Every staff member was welcoming and friendly. Restaurants within easy walking distance. Highly recommend this inn.
Nice clean rooms. A couple of breakfast/lunch spots within walking distance. Nice ocean views
For the price of our room our family expected cleaner accommodations (many rusty appliances and moldy caulking). The gate lock also didn’t work so we had some safety concerns.
Need a chair in the room
I stay every year. Love it.
The view was beautiful and the area was nice and quiet
Worth the $
Right next to the water. Close to Seaworld and old town San Diego. Close to shops. Still felt more old town, which was nice. Next to the sunset cliffs National park. Sometimes we couldn’t find parking, although it was free. The 2nd room was too small for a queen bed in there. A double would be better. There were never pool towels next to the pool.
Amazing views! Spent a lot of time hanging out on deck overlooking ocean. Good size rooms and comfortable beds.
The staff is wonderful. Parking was difficult with a person who could not walk long distances. Limited attractions within walking distance. The property is beautiful and very peaceful.
We had amazing days at this hotel! Staff was extremely friendly!
Nice property loved it was so close to sea!!!
Excellent location right on the cliffs, although no direct beach access. Property is way overdue for an update. Loved the flowers everywhere. Would stay here again
Great location
This is the second time we stayed at this hotel. Its clean and the view is spectacular. We love it so much we decided to come here once or twice a year. Its quaint but beautiful.
Favorite in Oceanside
A beautiful place with many roses. Rooms were clean and specious the view of ocean from patio wonderful and the people were friendly
We loved our time at The Inn. Our rental had separate bedrooms and the views were amazing!
It needs painting outside and new outdoor furniture.
I would go back to this property next time. I would it. It was clean. Staff were nice. The view was amazing. We got to walk to a little beach that not a lot of people were at.
It’s a quaint old time property, the staff is super friendly and the location is perfect. Plenty of restaurants in the area, walkable. It’s not luxury but it’s all you need for a quick stay.
Great trip! Staff was excellent!
Hotel on the cliff.
Moldy smell in unit. Bed sagged into the middle. Otherwise okay but overpriced for the experience.
TeamDavies Trip
We enjoyed our stay here especially watching the ocean from the patio. The lower patio was collapsing so could not enjoy the entire property as advertised. Staff were very helpful. Parking is limited but enough in the residential are as well.
How was this voted best hotel 3 years in a row? Bed was loud just to get on it or if you moved at all. You couldn’t put the room fan on because the fire alarm would start chirping every 3 minute so we had to turn the fan off. You could hear everything they were doing upstairs. TV in living room was tiny, we didn’t use it anyway. And the furniture outside was dirty and had holes in it. The pictures online deceive you to think the 2 bedroom suite is much larger than it actually is. It’s tiny. It wasn’t all bad, the view was nice, and live music was good.
Very lovely
We loved the location, the staff, and got to meet the owner who were all wonderful
Not all rooms have an ocean view at all, bottom floor room we were in did not. Rooms are small, especially the bathroom and can hear all outside noise and from other rooms. Fold out couch very uncomfortable. Doesn't look and isn't as nice as the pictures at all. Would not stay there again.
Bad bed
Everything was great loved being right on the ocean. Our only issue was the bed was so hard it was like sleeping on a rock. We had stayed here before and never had this issue. My mother inlaw stayed at the same time we did and her bed wad confortable but ours was not. So we got very little sleep and was very sore our entire trip.
A gem on the coast. Love the live music on Saturday nights by the pool and ocean. Perfect sunset. Close to restaurants and quaint area of town.
Our family of 4 stayed here for Spring Break. The staff was incredibly attentive and the room was exactly as pictured on the website and the two bedroom worked great for our family. Beautiful evening sunsets and a laid back atmosphere. Perfect for families.
Absolutely beautiful I would stay here on all my future stays!

False advertising, nothing like the photos
This was a wild experience of false advertising and I CANNOT recommend this hotel at all. This hotel is unfortunately not the relaxing cliff side experience that is shown. We arrived the the hotel and it’s very very run down but the main issues were: 1) the large hotel deck/grass/patio overlooking the ocean that is in the all the photos (here and on the hotel website itself) is completely gone and in its place are large construction equipment and metal rods and torn up dirt. This is absolutely NOT the cliffs view that is advertised. You cannot look to the ocean without staring right at the construction and the advertised deck is simply not there. 2) the room does not match the photos. The photos for our room showed a renovated bathroom, a nice bed, and a nice sitting area. We arrived and found a very old bathroom, poor furniture in a sitting room, and a terrible bed that hardly fit the room and you couldn’t even walk around it. The renovated space was not what we saw. This was a highly overpriced and misleading experience, we ended up speaking with the kind man at the front desk for a refund and booked something else for the night. It seems this was not the first time someone found a different hotel and room than expected. Additional notes: The hotel pool was very cold (January but advertised as heated), fire pits were available for rent for $50 a day among other items for rent, and the facility is overall very run down.
