My third time staying here. Great location. I do miss the fact that they NO longer offer breakfast; it was convenient.
This hotel is a heritage property which makes it an interesting place to stay, and it's in a really nice area (very close to painted ladies!). It nice becuase the suburb does not feel touristy. The room was nice and comfy. There's no elevator and the luggage needs go up a separate machine, which needs to be done by the hotel receptionist. In terms of extra amenities, the hotel does not really have any (except some free tea in the tiny front foyer). The front receptionist seemed angry and was rude because we checked out 20 minutes late.
Staff very nice
Excellent location, amazing value, surprisingly quiet and very clean. Only place I want to stay in San Francisco.
Beautiful and perfect location! Very nice staff. A new find!
There is a McDonalds and Trader Joe’s in walking distance. Street parking was available (but observe the signs for street cleaning). Public transportation passes by in close proximity but did not bother me. Cute Victorian houses.
Very quaint property with very personal contact info and desk - would stay again for sure; room small but comfortable and shower fantastic… very walkable to restaurants and the Gilmore
Temperature of the room was way too warm. If you open the windows, the noise from the street makes it too hard too sleep. We mentioned it to the front desk, and they said the would look into it . It was actually warmer after that. We did not sleep well at all any of the nights during our stay. Otherwise staff was nice, location was very good and in a safe neghborhood. Check-in was really easy. Room was clean as advertised. Wish we could have been able to sleep.
So glad we chose to stay at the Grove. It’s in a pretty, safe neighborhood, walkable to great restaurants and shops. Check in was quick and easy, and the room was small (to be expected in this part of town) but comfortable and clean.
Great area the Fillmore District. Close to iconic parks and architecture. Great stay with good amenities.
Will absolutely be visiting again soon!
nice staff
Quiet, clean and comfortable
Great price, very clean and quiet room, super easy check-in.9

Small but cozy place to feel San Francisco stay. Historical small building but it’s well maintained and clean!
Great place! Would definitely stay again.
Amazing place to stay. Great for folks with a car and can utilize street parking (free). The service was amazing. When we come back to SF, we will be staying here.
The area is great and the hotel was comfortable and a good value.
Near bus stop
Lovely, cozy accommodations in a sweet, colorful area, the Alamo Square Historic District.
Charming!
Loved my stay here! The neighborhood is beautiful, the street is quiet, the rooms are super clean, and the front desk is friendly. What more could you ask for for a weekend in SF??
We loved the location and the relaxed atmosphere around The Grove Inn. Haight street had great breakfast options and was convenient.
We’d previously stayed in the tourist heavy area near fisherman’s wharf, but this was a good alternative to see a “genuine” San Francisco. Highly recommend the restaurants on neighbouring Hayes st & breakfast at Eddies. As far as accommodation, clean, modern fit out & Mark on the front desk was very helpful. Would stay again.
Excellent hotel! I love Hayes Valley and it’s a short walk to great restaurants and shops and the famous view from Alamo Square. Parking was not too bad and the staff were very helpful and gracious. Very good price and as a solo female traveler, I felt safe and had a good time. I will be back!
Lovely place to stay.
Wonderful. Hotel checked on us in advance. When we arrived, greeted warmly. Nice room, comfortable. We like the location, felt safe.
I would definitely recommend the Grove Inn! It was clean, quiet, and quaint. The bed was so comfortable. It’s also in a great location—one (hilly) block from Alamo Square, about a ten minute walk to lots of restaurants and shops on Divisadero, and there’s a bus stop directly outside. It’s also an easy walk to the Mission district and more great restaurants and shops on Hayes. You should stay here!
Nice Inn Near Alamo Park
It's a cute Inn near Alamo Park (Painted Ladies). The room was very nice and the area was safe. We parked in one of the suggested garges (Fillmore) which worked out great - we never drove in the city but left the car parked there. I was a little surprised that the front desk was only open from 9 AM to 5 PM; however, it worked out just fine. The staff was good but we were out everyday, so really didn't see them much. There aren't any services the Inn offers (e.g., restraunt) which was just fine for us. If your looking for a comfortable place to stay while visiting the sites or family in the area, this place is great.
Lovely little hotel in a great location! Very much enjoyed the staff & my stay there. Loved the luggage elevator! Sasha was very hospitable and so knowledgeable!
Clean quiet and walkable.
No air conditioning! There is only a standing fan and windows to open for a breeze. The expedia listing is misleading when it says air conditioning. I did feel some air coming out of a floor vent during the day once, but it seems like they turn it off when they close the front desk at 9pm. Guests have no control over it.
Fantastic property in a wonderful location. You can choose to walk or ride the transportation in the area. Staff were excellent! The beds are extremely comfortable and we slept soundly each night.
Great property. Repeat guests.
Excellent Victorian style Inn that is well kept up and very pleasant. There could have been a mirror in the room but otherwise, we lacked for nothing. The beds were superior comfort.
Excellent
I was in town for a conference and chose a hotel near the venue. Though not a traditional hotel, I loved the historic feel of the Grove. Although a bit small, it had character, inside and out. I also loved the location, as it was walkable to the nearby park and to shops and entertainment.
Loved this quaint spot. Perfect location and friendly staff! Will definitely stay again.
This is a nice little property with very helpful staff. The room was cozy and quiet given that we were in a city.
Great San Francisco location
Friendly greeting, clean room, excellent location for exploring the Hayes Valley neighborhood and other surrounding areas, all of which were remarkably clean and vibrant. Convenient to public transportation, parks
The property is charming, well maintained, and conveniently located. My only complaint is the walls are paper thin and I could hear every conversation in the next room.
Lovely, cozy place to stsy, short walk to restsurants on Hayes, easy transport.
great place!
My favourite place to stay in SF
Solid Inn. Good location. Swift and easy. Worth the money. Felt like we were in good hands.
It was super cute. I just stress out when there is no one at the front desk 24/7. I appreciated the cameras surrounding the property and the room was really nice. The bed was comfortable as well.

Good,Place
great property in an good area, nice cafes and easy access transport
Great location. Walkable to several dining and shops. No on property parking. Friendly staff.
Clean and neat boutique hotel. Perfect for our short couple getaway.
Lovely Hotel
Really enjoyed my stay. Lovely hotel, vintage but clean and modern. Very comfortable, modern room, well-appointed. Great location near the Painted Ladies park. Would be happy to stay here again.
Loved it!
I loved the Grove Inn! So charming with very friendly, accommodating and helpful staff in a wonderful building and neighborhood. The room with bay windows, natural light, and a modern bathroom was ultra comfortable and spotlessly clean all around. I'm certainly going back!
This property is in the perfect location in regards to where my daughter lives in San Francisco. I never saw anyone who worked there but the check-in was electronic and they made it easy to check-in and go straight to your room. No elevator so you do have to take your luggage upstairs yourself. It was clean and very cute also. We will stay there again.
Comfortable and convenient with charm.
Great check in, room was ready when we checked in and as expected
Wonderful experience! The rooms were so nice and the neighbor is nice and quiet. I’ve stayed in a. Lot of areas of San Francisco and this was by far my favorite!
Charming place on a busline
This was in many ways a charming little place. The room was nicely furnished, with everything you need for tea and coffee. My room was at the top of a winding staircase. though, and there’s no elevator. There happened to be someone at the desk who helped get my luggage upstairs, but not when I left, so pack lightly. The only other concern I had was the noise from the bus line right next to the building and under my window. Turns out the bus ran less often at night. The owners also provide a number of noise muffling gadgets to help out and they work pretty well. The bed was quite comfortable, the room was sparkling clean. If you’re strong enough to manage your luggage, it’s worth giving it a try.
Small hotel, friendly staff and easy to walk to great restaurants and parks. Don’t recommend brining a car, parking can be a challenge.
The wash sink drains very very slow. If your room is on the first floor, you can hear people walking upstairs.
Nice rooms in the neighborhood. Walk to SF Jazz and many restaurants. All manner of shops and it’s near the performing arts. I would return.
Stayed here for one night as my wife and I were in town for a concert at the Fillmore. Comfortable rooms, super nice staff, and great location. Loved walking to the Fillmore and back and eating at great restaurants close by. Will definitely stay here again!!
Staff was very friendly. Rooms were fine considering the price, but being in an old house meant no AC, and then windows didn’t open fully. As a result, the room was too warm at night.
This Inn was really lovely. Room was very clean, quiet and the staff were very pleasant. I was worried about parking, but I found a spot right around the corner. Will return!
It is an excellent location, a block from the beautiful Alamo Square Park. The accommodations are clean and very comfortable.
Great inn, better than the sf hotel experience
Easy check in, plenty of street parking and great location with a view of Alamo square park from the front of the hotel. Both the ladies who were working at the front desk were exceptionally helpful and welcoming. Will definitely stay again.
Comfortably, homely hotel. All staff were friendly and accommodating. Nice position, between SF city centre and Haight-Ashbyry area. Recommend! 👌
It's was more like a house than a hotel. Beautiful neighborhood.
Location and Comfort!
In a fantastic location! Makes you feel a part of the local neighborhood. Bus right outside that runs to the Golden Gate Bridge or to the subway. 4 blocks away is a slew of delicious restaurants, bars, and shops. The front desk was helpful and had great suggestions for places to eat and check out. To top it all the mattress was extremely comfortable. Would stay here again for sure.
This was a perfect place to stay to go to the San Francisco opera. Easy walking distance, lovely neighborhood. Comfortable, quiet room with nice touches like treats to accompany coffee, en electric kettle, and a white noise machine.
Great stay, cute little hotel looked in a great area.
Nice staff, clean, quiet and safe.
The hotel was so quaint, quiet, was walkable to the painted ladies and so many amazing restaurants. Would absolutely stay here again!
Staff was great
The hotel is in a residential area so nice and quiet and safe. If you have been to San Francisco before and know your way around, this is a great hotel to stay in. If a first timer, it’s a little bit out of the way from bars. Very clean hotel with nice little touches, like a coffee machine, but lacks some essentials such as a safe. Really friendly staff with great communication if checkin after 5pm and have great knowledge in the hotel around the area
Very clean and quiet. Convenient check-in/check-out options.
I've stayed here a couple times now and I really enjoy it. Very clean, comfy and fairly quiet! Very friendly, easy to work with staff. Will def stay again when in SF.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Grove Inn. The location was perfect, right in the middle of San Francisco and there is public transit right in front of the door. A room was very spacious and clean, considering how expensive it can be to stay in San Francisco this was a great value for the price
Everything was great except the parking was a challenge.
The "automated" after hours checkin process was not smooth and the staff was not immediately responsive
It was perfect for our one-night stay in SF, close to public transit and places to eat.
Great spot!
This place is perfect for anyone wanting enjoy the city with local vibe. The area is very safe and the location is great for short. Cheap Uber rides to any popular spot. I will def be back and rec to anyone i know traveling to SF. Staff and rooms were charming and made us feel comfortable .
I stayed at Grove Inn while my husband underwent surgery so I could be close by. The concierge was wonderful, she had my room cleaned early so I could check in before noon. She asked how the surgery went. The room was comfortable and generous, the bed was excellent. There were even earplugs in case of noisy traffic. Plus there is a lovely, inexpensive French restaurant a few hundred feet away. We will return after hubby has recuperated! Thank you for the hospitality during a difficult time. Anita S.
Nice place but lacking in certain areas. Reception closes at 5:00pm so should you need anything or have an issue, there is no help.
Great location! Had everything I needed for my one night stay. The front desk had great suggestions for coffee and food to pass the time as I checked in very early. As well as held and delivered my luggage to my room when it was available. Will definitely stay there again if/when I am in the area!
Great value and outstanding customer service
I loved everything about this place! The value for the price, the proximity to so many great things in SF, the unbelievable service and care of the staff, the comfort of the rooms and bed, and how it felt like staying with a friend. I can’t recommend it enough and would definitely return.
We always love staying here!
We enjoyed our stay. The location was great. The room was clean.
Cozy Inn was very pleasant
Staff was very courteous and helpful. Our room had an odd layout with a separate vanity diagonally opposite from the bathroom. There was no temperature control in the room, no way to turn on heat. Good WiFi , easy to connect, stayed connected as long as I was staying. Was not an accessible room, rooms are on the 2nd floor after a climb up a steep staircase. Thankfully, they did have a luggage elevator. No handholds in shower The shower controls were hard to figure out; i.e., how to control the water flow and temperature was rather a mystery that unfolded over the course of a 4 day stay. The front desk is open for check-in/out only during daytime business hours. They do have a self-checkin process that allows you to check in at any time. Similarly, you can come and go at any time. Ran out of Kleenex, no extra box provided, staff all left for the day. Nice fluffy towels
Staff was thorough and very welcoming. And the checkin process was slick and easy!
Clean rooms, good location depending on where you need to get to, dimmable bathroom lights so you don't blow your eyes up in the morning. The bathtub enamel was worn out at points and would sprout rust stains every day though the hotel staff were aware of the problem and would clean it well> They are also working to replace the bad tubs we were told. The coffee k-cups were pretty bad but k-cups are pretty bad, in general, so bring your own if you're picky. The beds were way too soft for our liking.
Cute place, very clean, loved the chocolates & biscuits :)
Very clean, nice small room, perfect for short stays or overnight. Also would be great for those visiting, spending all day out and about. My check-in was late (office closed) but self check-in was so easy and the staff, very friendly. I will be staying here again.
Cozy, clean room within walking distance of several dining and shopping options. Great place to stay in Hayes Valley
Sasha was so helpful and nice! I would definitely recommend this place!
Super clean and cute property. Seamless checking and checkout experience-- Checked all the stars for us.
Really nice place to stay, feels homely and comfortable. Rooms are big enough to stretch out and open your suitcase. The area is excellent. Only negative was being an older building if you’re on the ground floor you can hear people walking on the floor above you, we unfortunately had quite active people at 3am which woke us in the night.
I liked the welcome and the fact that this is a very small hotel. It was in a safe area and was very clean.
This property had one of the most generously sized rooms we've experienced in SF. The staff was helpful and the room was immaculate. We wished that our room had a place to hang up clothes and that the heat was easier to regulate but overall we loved our stay and will definitely book here again.
Great location! Safe neighborhood, and walkable distance to lots of restaurants and shops. Right near the painted ladies. Nice comfy bed.

Great location. One block from the painted ladies. Quiet area between Alamo square/divisadero and Hayes valley
