The owners/employees at this property have been kind, considerate and welcoming each time I have stayed there. The ocean front walk in the back of the inn is the reason I go, it is simply amazing.
Fun little hotel near the beach and close to downtown businesses.
Very quaint love the Victorian style. My room was comfy and cozy very soft pillows. Bathroom perfect nice shower! Very good breakfast! Definitely stay again!
I arrived about 6:15 pm on a Friday evening. The office was locked, no one answered the door bell. I called the emergency phone numbers but got no answer.Their website says the office is manned 9 am to 9 pm, but no one was there. In the foyer I had access to I found an envelope with my name on it tucked away in a mail receptacle. It had keys to another entrance, a room key and an indoor map to my room. The room I chose was the Turret Room. I had to climb steep narrow stairs to get to it. No one was there to help me with luggage. I was there 3 nights and received no maid service. However there was a tip envelope with a note saying it was to show my gratitude for providing a clean room. There were no hand rails in the bathroom. The place was a quaint historic home converted to vacation lodging. I enjoyed the historic value, but can't recommend the place as the stairs are a safety hazard and check-in was difficult.
This is a lovely historic building near the heart of everything in Seaside. The staff are friendly and helpful, the room was small but clean, and the breakfast was good. Everything in town is within easy walking distance.
It was a great place for a laid back weekend.
My husband and I stayed on Valentines. They had a sweet card in the room, welcoming us. With swans made from the towels. It’s a very sweet and charming stay. We will stay again for sure.
Beautiful historic property. The staff was outstandingly kind and helpful! Easy walk to the beach and everything else around Seaside.
This is a charming inn to stay at when you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing overnight in a place with character and history. Very clean and comfortable with a suitable breakfast included. I like that they are dog-friendly so my chiweenie could join me. My new favorite place to stay in Seaside that I hope is still affordable in other seasons. Thank you!
The history of the Inn, takes you back to the time era. It was a very quaint place to stay. We loved the Turret room.
Enjoyable
Beautiful property! Enjoyed our stay. Will definitely be back
The property was a quaint little Inn within walking distance of the beach, the shops and dining. Will stay again.
This is my 3rd stay at Gilbert and I hope to visit again! I love the location next to the Prom and the cozy size of the rooms. I love that I can bring my small dog and it feels like staying with friends. Gilbert is a hidden gem and I hope that they are able to stay affordable so I can continue to come back!
Breakfast starts at 8 which was too late as we are on a roadtrip with lots to see
Lovely
The breakfast was horrible. Food wasn’t replenished. Same breakfast everyday. And the cleaning staff didn’t respect our privacy door hanger. We ran out of toilet paper at night and nobody answered the phone. Very disappointed.
I stayed in the Emma room and it was gorgeous. Super cozy and the woodwork in the room is stunning. The building has so much history and it’s incredible seeing how well it is preserved. The location is perfect and parking is a breeze. The free breakfast is a huge plus. The staff are kind and welcoming.
I missed the no microwave or fridge. My husband has alot of food allergies so I come prepared! I will look closer next time. Also let people know about the steep stairs in and out plus a few rooms too
Such a cozy, lovely place right by the ocean. Cool little shops around. And some good food close by.
Staff are nice and accommodating. Good amenities. Walkable to the beach and stores. For a quiet weekend retreat, this is the place to stay in Seaside, OR.
The property is lovely. It was very clean, the staff was helpful, it was very quiet, and one block from the beach. My only criticism is that they no longer serve a fresh breakfast. They now offer a large-hotel style breakfast (hot tray of eggs, sausages, make-it-yourself waffles, etc.).
The Gilbert Inn is a very nice and cozy place to stay when you want a quiet getaway to Seaside.
Even better than we expected!
Cute, comfy, convenient, and very nice!
Hotel with a B&B Feel
It was amazing quaint room called the terrace room. Old historical house 134 years turned into a hotel with a B&B feel. Can see a bit of the ocean from the windows but you can definitely hear the ocean which made it helpful to sleep. Staff was great, kind and helpful.
Want to be checked in by a surly 20 something glued to an I phone? Stay here. Want to hear dogs barking and clomping feet next to and above you? Stay here. Want a breakfast buffet that Motel 6 would be embarrassed to offer? Stay here. Want a good bed and breakfast experience? Go elsewhere. The Gilbert Inn is not what its website would lead you to believe and is a terrible value.
We had an amazing vacation with our two dogs! The location was super close to the beach and easy to navigate. The room was very cozy and clean. We will be coming back again soon!
Great stay
The Gilbert Inn was a little oasis in the middle of Seaside. We had a tiny view of the ocean but it was only a short block away. Our room was lovely but there were many creaks from the room above. The breakfast room was inviting with many tasty choices. We asked for dining options and Finn's was suggested and it was in walking distance and very good.
The Gilbert Inn was a charming spot for a two night stay in Seaside, close to lots of eating and shopping options. The historical aspect of the inn was interesting to read about, and see the artifacts in the lobby. The Kimberley room was lovely, if a bit small, but I believe most rooms here would be similar. The bed was comfortable….the bathroom shower height was fairly low, so if you’re tall, you need to kind of crouch a bit. Breakfast was mediocre, but the ambience of the sunroom location made up for it. All in all, a good choice for our stay.
Beautiful historic home with the predictable amenity challenges of a historic home. Attention to small detail such as nice bathrobes and breakfast was provided daily.
I liked the old house with the old furniture, the green lawn, shrubs and flowers. Even though its the oldest house in Seaside it is very clean and warm and cozy - its got charm!
A quaint hotel with actual metal keys for the doors and all the charm you would expect.
Charming historic home, converted to boutique hotel. Rooms and bathroom are spotless and updated. Breakfast is typical motel "continental", eggs & sausage, oatmeal, yogurt, bagel & toast, orange juice, only missing cereal.
i liked how old fashioned it was, and still maintained well. And i didn't really not like anything douring my stay, it was great overall
Classic hotel.
Friendly/helpful staff, comfortable bed and breakfast very tasty
It’s a historical building and being there is like stepping back in time. Great atmosphere and close to the ocean.
Pros: historical, clean, fast Internet and streaming services like YouTube on TV, comfortable beds. Cons: it was noisy in the middles of the night. Very late breakfast -starts at 8am, not enough sockets to charge devices.
I had a wonderful stay. The property was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and accommodating. My only complaint was the coffee wasn't very good.
Lovely Victorian home made into an inn. Comfortable room and bed. But the young men who work the front have ZERO personality. No super helpful. Had their AirPods in the whole time. Just would be nice to have been welcomed. Changed the vibe immediately. But everything else was great!
Great location. Quaint. Nice staff.
Uncomfortable and not worth the price
Really didn’t feel like a hotel, especially not a 3 star hotel.. I’m very surprised with the high ratings this hotel has recieved. It feels like you’re staying in someone’s spare bedroom in a very old house. Our room was the Gilbert or 1800s suite and we were so uncomfortable that we couldn’t stay the second night that we had originally planned. the carpet was wet with stains, the tv wouldn’t work because the internet was too slow, their pet policy asks you to hose off your dog outside but they don’t have a hose for it(I asked the front desk and he told me to go find the showers by the beach), the microwave is sitting on top of the mini fridge that’s on the floor and my one year old kept almost pulling it down on herself.. it should really be secured or on top of a cart. The carpet and shower insert were of motel quality. Nothing felt nice but the free breakfast was decent and the hotel very close to the beach. Don’t stay here if you’re afraid of ghosts. It’s old and creepy and they like to preserve its history and keep it that way. It could be so nice if they updated it! I’m was nice of them to accept my cancellation request for the second night and I was refunded.
Beautiful old character home. Rooms were very clean, but a bit worn. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The rooms could use a new coat of paint. The trim around the doors in our room was all chipped and peeling. The one thing that was really terrible was the breakfast. For the price we paid to stay at this property, we expected a breakfast that was commensurate with the price. Instead we had standard cheap hotel “continental” breakfast that we put together ourselves and on the first morning there was barely anything left at 8:30. I would not recommend this place based on that. People who book beautiful old homes converted into B&B expect a better standard.
This was an interesting old historic home. The room was as I expected. It was comfortable. It is listed as a B&B, it is not. They offer a “continental” breakfast: dry biscuit, bland eggs, sausage, waffles, and oatmeal in a cup. This is what I expect at most hotels. But I expect more when it’s listed as a B&B.
Neat old home with lots of history
This was a neat old home. We loved the history of the Gilbert family home. Our room was on the top floor. We have an aging doodle and it was a little much for her to go up the steep stairs, but otherwise it was a good stay. The only not so great comment would be as my husband was bringing our luggage down the young man at the desk just watched as my husband struggled with our luggage but didn’t offer to help. In fact he never said anything. That was a little disappointing.
Staff was not friendly, and when we tried to get breakfast, everything was gone. The eggs, sausage, etc. It waa approximate 9:15. And no one came to replenish it.
I love the history behind the Gilbert Inn; and the home itself was well cared for. We spent over 2 hours trying to get the TV to work as each channel/program we finally realized had to download individually and the internet connection was verrrrry slow. There should be an instructional sheet on what to do instead of button pushing trying to figure it out. This was the 1st B and B we've stayed in where the complimentary breakfast was a "make it yourself" which was disappointing to say the least especially for the high cost per night. I wouldn't recommend this place.
Great location but bring white noise
Perfect location and some fun history. You will be in an old house that was converted to a hotel, so expect squeekiness, old everything, and lights/noises all night. Watch out, too, because the shower spits some seriously hot water- I can't remember the last time I was burned in a bathroom (all my fault but don't let the kids turn on the bath).
Almost perfect
We loved everything about this little hotel with one ecception. The smell of bleach was very stong and never went away the entire 4 nights we were there .
I know it’s out of their control but 2 hour fire alarm going off from 8:30-10:30 pm across the street and baby crying in another room also no air conditioning made for a long, warm night
The location was great and very convenient for what I needed. The breakfast was late in being ready at the advertised 8am time. The waffle batter was not refilled from the day prior so there wasn’t enough for those wanting them. The sausage gravy appeared to be half full and left over from the day before as well and the biscuits were not ready. The worker seamed less caring of how service was being provided and timeliness of it. Room was clean and amicable for what it was. The outside seating area deck looked dirty and not inviting for a sunny morning sitting. The deck and fencing are sagging and looked broken.
The Gilbert Inn exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly, the rooms were immaculate, and it was overall a very cool experience being in such a historic building. Being so close to the beach was a highlight and the area felt very safe. I highly recommend this hotel!
At check-in staff said breakfast at 8:00, we left at 8:20 and no one had shown up to set up breakfast. Sign on door said be back at 9:00. Unsafe electrical- groung prong removed from outlet strip.
Beautiful Inn. Quiet. Amenities very nice in room. Breakfast adequate and well presented. Receptionist beyond helpful and friendly. What a Gem of a nice experience in Seaside.
Loved our stay here.
Great spot in a historic building and so close to the beach!
Beautiful historic house. Wonderful staff. Peaceful environment. Enjoyed our stay so much we decided to stay another day.
Overall the staff wasn’t very welcoming. We paid extra for breakfast but the cook didn’t believe us. We had to ask the front desk to let the cook know.
Great stay
What a great old Hotel right in the middle of everything going on in Seaside.
Nice, quit, easy access and Mary was awesome!
Very clean, updated bathrooms, great shower. I am a diabetic and forgot to bring a snack for late night in case my sugar dropped. The Inn did not have even a cracker available in case of an emergency. Well, my sugar dropped - very low andI had to get in my car and drive to Safeway at 10pm to buy a snack. Not their fault but I needed help.
Beautiful, old historic B&B experience, short walk to all of Seaside attractions.
Great stay
I have no complaints. It was a great stay.
Such a great convenient place to stay!
Breakfast no longer is included in a nights stay. Bathtub/shower although very cute, hard to shower in with the faucet on the side and the plug did not work at all.
Charming, warm and inviting Home. Great employees very good. Complete cook to order breakfast.
Worthless service
A diamond in the rough in Seaside. Thanks so much for a comfortable, cozy room.
I had a wonderful stay at the Gilbert house such a quant place to stay.
Very relaxing solo trip
Really nice boutique inn. Great staff, clean room, very convenient location. We were very happy.
I liked the convenience of my room close to the side door and my parking space.
The inn itself is charming as are the distinctly appointed rooms. The front desk person was welcoming and very accommodating. She did a great job! Breakfast offered plenty of options too. A wonderful stay.
Nice and quaint property.
Loved how cozy this was. So close to everything Would definitely come back!
The inn is really cute and in a great, walkable area. Close to the beach. Room was comfortable.
Beautiful quaint property close to the ocean and good restaurants.
We had stayed at this quaint inn last year and we had a positive experience; therefore, we decided to stay there again. Unfortunately, this time was a major disappointment. It was uncomfortable and frustrating. The building is charming and conveniently located in Seaside, close to the beach and restaurants in walking distance. First of all, the young man who checked us in displayed a total lack of courtesy, no good manners, no welcoming attitude, and poor customer skills; all these, the opposite of what one expects from hotel staff. He seemed more interested in his phone than in being professional. The room was charming but the walls have no insulation so one can hear virtually everything from other rooms; all types of bathroom sounds and loud conversations. There's no thermostat in the room so there's no way to control the temperature. Radiators maintain the room warm; rather, too hot in the middle of the night. The piece of metal that holds the shower head in place was broken. We asked for it to be repaired. When we inquired about the status of the repair, this man replied: "I'm sure it was repaired ... but I'm not sure." It had not been repaired. When it was finally fixed, the new piece that replaced the old one could not hold the shower head in its place. It kept falling off, causing the water to go all over the bathroom, and making it quite uncomfortable to have a simple good shower. We are not going to stay there again.
Historic Home Right Near the Beach in Seaside
I've stayed at the Gilbert Inn about 6 times over the past few years, and I just keep coming back. It's not right on the ocean, but it's a half a block away and some rooms have partial views (if only the buildings in front would trim their trees) :) Weather permitting, I leave my window open at night and I can faintly hear the waves coming in. Very homey feeling, common areas are available at all times, great breakfast and the staff goes out of their way to accommodate the guests. My only suggestion would be to make the outdoor firepit area available year-round. Maybe add a cover to keep the rain out? The last two stays would have been complete if I could have gone out in the evening and enjoyed the fire. I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is. Be sure to ask about its history, or look it up on their website. A real gem in Seaside.
The property was quaint, homey, & comfortable. Some information provided on the Internet, email communications before our stay, & written information that we got upon arrival was confusing and contradictory. 1) According to the Internet and all emails we got before our stay, office hours were until 9 PM, and we were encouraged to call and let the property know if we would be arriving later than that. We intended to arrive by 8 PM to be there before the office closed. At about 6:30 PM I received a phone call from the office telling me that they would be closing at 7 PM; the clerk then gave me instructions for late arrival. On arriving we found a sign on the door saying that from December until March, the office hours would end at 7 PM. Why didn’t they tell me that in an email? 2) The key we were left did not open the nearest door. We had to read the 1-page letter in the after-hours packet to find out we needed to go to a different door to get in. Why didn’t the man who called me at 6:30 tell me that? 3) The 1-page letter with the check-in packet stated that breakfast was included in the price, but there were breakfast menu cards with the packet. A Post-it note had been attached to the cards; it said that breakfast was $10 per person. When I came downstairs the next morning and asked whether or not breakfast was included, I was told that it was not. A sign on the desk stated that reservations made after 1/1/24 would not include breakfast, yet we made reservations in December.
I would have given it a perfect rating but the lack of cable TV, especially ESPN during the National Championship game was disappointing. Had the weather been half way decent, it would have been great. We definitely plan to return to Gilbert Inn in the future.
We enjoyed the convenience, cleanliness, and breakfast.
What a lovely experience! Nestled amongst impersonal monoliths or chain establishments is the Gilbert Inn. Sweetly welcoming, homey, relaxing upon entering. No concrete walls, no neon, but fine wifi! Our breakfast was wonderful, and thoughtfully served. My only disappointment is that we stayed only one night! Definitely coming back!
Only complaint is lack of electric plugs but it’s an old charming building
Warm & Cozy Delightful Stay
Always LOVELY to stay at Gilbert Inn. Warm & friendly staff and a beautiful property. So close to the beach and many wonderful places to visit in walking distance. They even pulled the bikes out of storage since we had great weather. The fire pit is cozy and the hot breakfast is delicious with a personalized menu option. Thank you fir another delightful stay.
The Gilbert Inn is a lovely piece of history fashioned into separate, sizable rooms. The facilities are clean and comfortable, with quality remodeled bathrooms. There was no microwave or mini fridge in my room ---Emma's--- but I am unsure of the others. So just be aware in case you have perishable food you need/want to store. :) My only "warning" is that the stairs are VERY old and creaky, so any trips made at night are particularly loud (apologies to my neighbours). Your stay comes with a free, complimentary breakfast of your choice, made on-site (by a wonderfully friendly staff). The options during my stay were way better than I expected, with eggs and bacon, sausage, bagels, toast, fresh fruit and fruit cups. I definitely did not leave hungry.
"There's a Small Hotel . . "
In a resort city characterized by large, impersonal structures, the charming Gilbert Inn stands out. Each room has its own character, and the two rooms in which we have stayed were scrupulously clean and well-appointed. Bathroom appears to be new or newly remodeled, and was quite spacious. A substantial, made-to-order breakfast is provided In a "sunroom.". If we are ever back in Seaside, my wife and I will stay at Gilbert Inn again.
Nice, quaint place to stay. Small Bed & Breakfast feel.
Really liked that they had older dvd movie options to unwind with at night. It was pretty noisy most parts of the day, but that's to be expected with a historic building. Gorgeous structure. Kind staff. Would recommend
Great old inn!!
We loved the property. Our room was exactly as pictured. While it didn't change my rating, the recommendation to eat at Norma's was disappointing. Not a good restaurant. Lots of better choices along the Prom. Would definitely stay here again!
Very nice heritage hotel
Almost all the staff were helpful. I was disappointed for the fresh water container to be empty with no-one taking responsibility leaving guests with chlorinated water from the tap to drink. The kitchen staff werebsi fun to visit with!
Last minute stay in Seaside. Got the last room at The Gilbert Inn. For the price, it was a great stay. Breakfast was a bonus and quite enjoyable. Would highly recommend.
The property left me with a feeling of old world charm
The location and room were great. The room was warm and stuffy. Everything else was great.
We stayed at Marthe room which has a living room, sink, mini fridge and microwave. It is clean, roomy and convenient.
lovely Inn right near the beach and the main shopping and dining area in Seaside. Great full breakfast in the morning as well. Bikes to borrow were a bit rusty but we enjoyed riding around Seaside and down the 'Prom'. Really enjoyed our stay here.
Staff should work until office closes --at 8:45 Went to get service for TV and internet. No one there at 8:45. Asked next day and told 'I left at 8:59". TV was only partially plugged in and obviously wouldn't work. Took me about 15-20 minutes to figure this out by plugging and unplugging everything. Obviously houskeeping did not check the first thing a guest is likely to use other that a bathroom. Lady second day did not apologize for the previous obvious lie. Breakfast eggs and sausage were cold.

Great!
