Sublime!

Four days of pure luxury. We upgraded to the Europa suite and it was the most magical venue for Christmas. We enjoyed a magnificent Christmas lunch, delicious breakfasts and wonderful room service meals. The staff were absolutely phenomenal. We really don’t have enough superlatives for our stay at the Fontenay. Worth every penny!

Excellent property , rooms have very high level of detail . Good food and very attentive staff!

I arrived at 4 PM and was told my room wouldn’t be ready for another 45 minutes. I came to Hamburg to visit my grandma in the hospital and would only be here for one night so this was incredibly frustrating. I had to unpack a change of clothes from my luggage in the lobby and then go to the spa to change. Once I returned they offered me a room on the 1st floor which was designed for someone in a wheel chair, so all the countertops were uncomfortably low. At this point I was so late to get to the hospital I felt forced to take it. Very bad experience and I will not be back again because of it.

Amazing

Our family had an absolutely perfect experience at The Fontenay. What set this experience and hotel apart from the rest, is the attention to detail in each step of our stay, from the hospitality of the team to the polished atmosphere and delicious bites. Everyone has been so welcoming however a special highlight to Lukas Sarnow. He has been so above and beyond and every second of our stay. He is the embodiment of GREAT HOSPITALITY. His patience, his attitude, his knowledge, his gentle manner have been a delight. If you are planning a trip to Hamburg you should definitely consider The Fontenay.

Great hotel, just way out of the way and distant from main shopping

Luxurious property, high end technology, gorgeous grounds and perfect amenities. The stuff was friendly, professional and very courteous . Everything was perfection.

Outstanding property overall and this was our third stay in a year! The one issue that we found relates to the “family policy” of allowing screaming kids, even under 10 years old, in the spa area including the sauna and steam room, until closing at 10PM !! This policy definitely needs to change with a time limit for kids accessing the spa / pool area to maximum 20h in order to allow adults relaxing quiet time to enjoy!

It was uniquely placed right by a very easy jogging, walking , and cycling route and near the water. The building itself is the most aesthetically pleasing design with beautiful windows everywhere. I really don’t know how to put it in words but it was the best hotel so far of the many 5 star hotels I have stayed at.

Beautiful modern hotel in arguably the best residential area in Hamburg , right on the Alster lake. Fantastic choice at breakfast , hot dishes are prepared in the kitchen and delivered to your table piping hot which is not always the case with a buffet. Freshly made carrot and apple juice. Light switches in the room are very modern and not easy to operate Very expensive dining but fresh ingredients and value for money if you can afford it

Superb hotel on every level, one of the best we've stayed in.

Quality hotel from bygone era

Reception was excellent, even escorting us to our room. The room was a good and included a balcony. We appreciated the welcome gifts, and the turndown evening service which seems from a bygone era! We are nitpicking but were frustrated eggs and bacon were hard unless specifically asked for different. Position on the lake was perfect.

Honestly i can say this hotel is one of the best hotel un europe if we exclude UK. So modren and spacious with great services. Highly recommended.

Property is superbly located on the Aussenalster in Hamburg. Wonderful walks around the lake, superb connectivity to the inner city, and the short distance from.Eppendorf. My only beef is that the gym doesn’t open up early in the morning.

All areas of the property performed.

The suites are really well done with great attention to detail. Shower had light show and music. Good materials used throughout, room service was effective. Staff were friendly and competent. These days $950 a night for a suite doesn’t get you that much, at the Fontenay it gets you what it used to get you.

Great location, right on the lake “Alster”.

Stayed in a room with partial lake view. Loved the hotel design. The balcony was great for breakfast coffee. Room service was fast. Bathroom well organized but the hair dryer was hard to find haha so keep looking if you think there isn't one. Loved walk in closet with full length mirror. Would def stay here again. Well located in great Hamburg neighborhood by the lake.

Great new 5* hotel with a little bit to learn

Great new hotel nicely located along the Alster lake in walking distance to the city center and great restaurants. The service was good but it would have been great to be advised about the parking in and around hotel when the very friendly staff unloaded and parked the car on arrival, but then later charged 28 Euro/day for it when we could have parked for free during the weekend right in front of the hotel. The room was nice, but the cleanliness did not live up to expectations.

The German national football team stayed here while we were there and if it’s good enough for them...this is a new, clean, modern and luxurious hotel which made our stay in Hamburg a class above and was just 15 minutes walk from the centre. Oh and did I mention the complimentary minibar, digital shower or expansive balcony? Expensive but highly recommended. Should be the number one choice in Hamburg!

Everything was easy and seamless - pur luxury. The bar is amazing, so was the massage - endless choice. And to have a fantastic breakfast in such a beautiful setting just toped it off!

Overall a great hotel for resort type / spa experience. Gorgeous rooms with all the latest amenities. Spa is well appointed and facial very well done.

Gar rejst meget, men aldrig oplevet så fantastisk hotel, hvor alt spiller sammen på den gode måde. Service på højt niveau, dejlige faciliteter (spa, fitness mm.), og værelser, som er veludstyrede, og hvor alt virker. Kan kun anbefale hotellet varmt, og kommer gerne igen !

Ein Luxushotel der Extraklasse

Vom Check-In bis zur Abreise kann ich nur die Bestnoten vergeben. Zimmer mit allem Komfort. Einmaliger Pool mit Aussicht im 6. Stock. Ebenso die Bar. Einziges kleines Minus. Im Frühstücksraum saß man allerdings etwas eng und am Buffet war wenig Platz, weil der Raum zu klein war.

Insgesamt eine sehr enttäuschende Erfahrung. Das Servicepersonal ist desinteressiert bis arrogant. Die Möglichkeiten, sich im Hotel mit Hund zu bewegen sind sehr eingeschränkt. Man hat das Gefühl, eigentlich nicht erwünscht zu sein. Weit entfernt von einem hervorragenden Haus.

Einfach purer Luxus

Dieses Hotel wäre für mich wirklich außergewöhnlich und perfekt, wenn man nur die Lüftung zumindest nachts abschalten könnte. Selbst mit Ohropax hört man noch ein Brummen, ich finde für den Preis könnte man komplette Ruhe erwarten. Das Frühstück das Beste was ich je hatte, alles schmeckt hervorragend, alles da was man sich wünscht am Buffet, alles andere kann bestellt werden. Man schmeckt die Qualität! Zimmer sauber und gemütlich, das Bad könnte etwas grösser sein, aber ist nicht tragisch. Herrliche Lage an der Alster.

The hotel is spectacular. If you're looking for a quiet place with great facilities, this is your hotel in Hamburg. The staff service is also very good. The hotel is not exactly in the city center, but within a 15-20 minute walk, you can reach the central area.

Der Service ist umwerfend. Die Auszeichnung bestes Hotel Deutschlands ist absolut gerechtfertigt. Vielen Dank an Concierge, Rezeption, Zimmerservice und die Bar! Wir fahren jedes Mal ungern ab, aber freuen uns auf das sichere nächste Mal.

Generelt et super lækkert ophold. Vi kunne sagtens have blevet et par dage mere😀 God service - skøn beliggenhed. Dog syntes vi at vi manglede lidt info ved indtjekning - manglede info vedr. spaen og morgenmaden. Vi blev også meget overraskede over at vi skulle betale for parkeringen - 70 euro for 2 dage. Spa området var bestemt ikke noget at skrive hjem om- igen super skønt udført og en dejlig beliggenhed med udsigt ud mod vandet men meget kedeligt. Et bassin som var meget koldt og en dampsauna og en masse afslapnings/hyggestole stole… Det var bestemt meget skuffende.

Ein perfektes Hotel. Es stimmt einfach alles. Die außergewöhnliche Architektur beeindruckt, ebenso wie das Innendesign. Das gesamte Personal ist höflich und zuvorkommend, man fühlt sich als Gast willkommen und wohl. Wir erlebten einen hervorragenden Aufenthalt. Vielen Dank dafür an das gesamte Team des Hotels.

If you just need a place to sleep at and nothing else, this is a 5* hotel. The room is the best I ever had. If you want more than a sleeping place, and a full 5* hotel with proper Spa and Gym and the service with it, the Fontenay is sadly a disappointment. My experience might be heavily personal but I still think it speaks enough about the hotel in itself. We were there with my girlfriend for 5 days, and the sauna was broken the entire duration of our stay. I understand that those things can happen but the explanations we got changed from one person to another, which just made it seemed that they had not idea what was going on, and did not bother hurrying up to fix it. Their compensation was a champagne bottle that we had to send back since my girlfriend is pregnant and cannot drink alcohol. That was all the hotel did for us, and probably for the other complaining guests, so you can understand why I feel the Fontenay is not worth 5*. The gym is also too small, it is probably half the size of one of their room and is simply lacking equipment for those who want more than just running on a treadmill. It is a shame because the hotel is beautiful inside and the rooms are incredible, but it does not compensate its other weaknesses.
