Second time staying at the hotel. Room is always spotless clean. The room this time (#402) has some noise (could be the heat system). But other than that, everything is great!

The place was amazing

Clean, great location and very well stocked kitchen. Very quiet inside too. All in all a very relaxing, functional and convenient place to stay while in Portland - if you are looking for a self sufficient stay.

We enjoyed our stay at the Docent and especially liked having an equipped kitchen and good size living room/seating. Honestly the only negative was the parking situation - the alley was sketchy at night and there are not a lot of available spaces. I think if the parking was better I would have given it 5 stars bec the lofts are very modern and clean. Great downtown location also.

Incredibly impressed with everything start to finish. Our 2 bedroom room was spacious , quiet and clean. The property is within walking distance to bars and restaurants. Perfect alternative to the traditional hotel experience for those looking for a little more room.

Comfortable and clean with great location

The room was beautiful and comfortable and location was perfect! The parking and check in process was different from a normal hotel because it was all electronic with your key being downloaded on an app. First time I did it this way, so it was a bit of a learning curve. I had to call for parking info and someone answered the phone right away and was very helpful. We would definitely stay again!

We liked the area, the furnishings, and the design.

Beautiful location. Worst customer service.

You have to download an app in order to enter the property, I did not know this and when I called to get assistance from the person at the front desk. Which by the way, I have no idea where that is because I never saw one person. He was rather abrupt and condescending and kept telling you what I needed to do and telling me to calm down. I wasn't not calm. I just had to really go to the restroom. I wish they would put something like that on their website when you're trying to book. If it was there I did not say it. The room itself was very nice and very clean, but as far as the customer service it lacked and left a lot to be desired. Teach your people at the front desk to be a little bit more. Customer friendly.. instead of telling people to calm down and when they ask where the front desk is to continuously ignore them. Instead of explaining how the location works. I will never stay here again.

Great spot for downtown Portland

The apartment is fine, though dark for my tastes, but everything is clean and well decorated. The problem for us is how insanely complicated everything is. The check in involved downloading an app and complicated directions that had significant gaps in information. I am fairly tech savvy, but I still had problems. The staff I spoke to on the phone and with whom I exchanged texts couldn’t have been more lovely and accommodating. But the check in system really needs to be rethought. And in addition to the complexity it relies too heavily on one’s iPhone. But things can go wrong with iPhones. My husband I both wondered what would have happened if my phone wasn’t properly charged, for instance. The temperature controls were also needlessly complex. In stead of enjoying our first hour here, we were wrestling with technology. The whole experience has been much too stressful. Right now I am trying to find check out instructions among the large number of texts and e-mails I’ve received.

The hotel was very clean but still under construction with no hotel staff on site. It had limited parking and there was none available upon arrival.

If anyone wants to stay in a beautiful well kept apartment in the perfect location in Portland Maine this is your place!!! It perfect

Snuggly Stay

We had a very nice stay. The ease of the parking and the security was reassuring. I loved snuggling up on the couch when the weather wasn't at its best.

It did feel like a home away from home.

It was awesome! Amazing bed and blackout blinds — I slept like s baby. Located right in the heart of the Old Port, I walked everywhere once I parked. Parking was right beside the building and very safe right next to the Police parking lot. Building was clean and quaint. It had a lot of historical character, but the studio was modern, clean, and efficient. I was nervous because I am used to staying in hotels with staff, but Grace and team were reassuring — keyless key and all went seamlessly. Also, 121 Middle Street is only a 5 minute drive from Wholefoods and F45, Orange Theory, and Cycle gyms, so I got healthy groceries and an awesome workout too. I wanted to move in and will definitely stay there again. Thank you.

Very clean. Beautiful room and in the heart of downtown. Really enjoyed our overnight stay on a Tuesday. 10 minute Uber to airport as well.

Our unit was exceptionally quiet. It was very nicely furnished. The bathroom was especially nice with an excellent shower. The location was very good and was only a short walk to many fine restaurants and shops. We paid for the private parking which was well worth the extra money. The assigned “docent” was very helpful and responsive. I can recommend the Docent’s Collection without reservation!

Disappointing

The checkin process is needlessly laborious, requiring you to download an app. However, my largest complaint was with the tiny bed and extremely loud water noise. I am usually a really deep sleeper, but I have never encountered a room that became so loud any time someone in the property used water.

We had a great time! It’s a little too pricey for a long stay, but comparable to other hotels in the area. The room was very nice and was more of an apartment than a room. Very well laid out, comfortable and clean! The person who met us was very nice and helpful. The room was a bit dry and windows cannot be opened. I’m sure for temp control this is the case, but I would recommend bringing a humidifier or a bunch of water! Overall it was a great experience and we loved our stay.

It is our first time staying at an “urban home”, and it exceeded our expectation. The staff was very kind, helped us sorting out a technical glitch quickly. Highly recommended.

A unique stay in the heart of Portland. Quiet, comfortable, with an eye for detail. This is something special.

Great location, very clean, loved that we had a kitchen for our stay. The air conditioning was very loud though and parking isn’t guaranteed.

The room looked exactly like the pictures. There was no front desk to check-in, so it was contactless. The room was dirty, but they came back and fixed it. The manager and staff was extremely kind and helpful. We enjoyed our stay overall.

The room was very clean and had a very comfortable bed. I like how you didn’t have all the noise like a typical hotel. It’s in the perfect spot and walkable to all old port. Grace was very accommodating.

Great place. Very Weird Check in- please no -for the most part you are on your own - no front desk - no bellman - no valet. You need an app and a “ code” to open the front door and get in your room. Very much la smart phone driven experience. The place and location are wonderful - the process in hospitality - not so sure about.

I like the old building. Since I was new to the area I felt a phone call with a person might have helped me thru the process from parking to the front door. The area was intimidating while driving

The property was clean and well maintained. Definitely get a lot more for your money here in comparison to most hotels in the surrounding area. Easy to walk to everything in Portland. Management went above what was expected.

The digital access was seamless. They checked up on me to make sure everything was up to par. The place was very clean, spacious and inviting. I hope to return sometime this year.

My entire stay was eventful yet restful. I was a little worried never having used digital entry before but they called and reassured me and even though my arrival was past 10:30pm there was no problem getting in. The room is wonderful and the city is a joy to explore.

We had a great two night stay! The space was clean and new and the location was favorable.

Everything was great, except we had problems finding the entrance. It might help to put a sign out, or list explicit instructions in the confirmation.

Amazing design and cleanliness. Digital check-in and key was easy and no issues at all. Great spot downtown walking distance to everything.

This is a beautiful property with amazing, helpful staff at a prime location. Close to lots of dining and activities, a perfect winter wonderland retreat. It is a very relaxing place to stay.

We asked for early check in and they were able to accommodate us. The rooms, especially the windows, are beautiful. Even the lobby is nice. Very nice stay!

The location was smack downtown and near everything! It was very quiet and we never even saw another guests. The amenities are brand new and the apartment was spacious! 10 out of 10 recommend!

Great urban home

Couldn't have asked for a better spot to spend a long weekend with friends. It was spacious, clean, and well appointed, and so nice to be able to have so many restaurants and shops within walking distance. Shadhi was kind enough to meet us early so we could drop bags off and was in communication to make sure everything was good. We will absolutely use and recommend Docents in the future.

We were unable to check in via the FLEXIPASS. However, when we called the staff, she responded quickly and was able to resolve the issue for us.

The room was amazing! It had everything we needed plus some. I was called by the host and asked why we are staying and she left a list of places to go and eat. It was very much appreciated.

We loved everything about the Docent Collection. After staying in a large hotel in Boston, it was a welcome relief from crowded lobbies, long elevator rides. The concept was perfect for us. It felt like we had our own personal home. It was beautifully decorated, immaculate and very comfortable. We found the location to be perfect too. Anything you wanted was a short walk away.

The location was great. It was a very nice clean apartment with great appliances, etc. Make sure you read your emails. It doesnt have a front desk and you need to make sure all your affairs are in order before you arrive. We found out the hard way.

We will return again for work or vacation purposes. The entire family enjoyed the apartment. It was clean and modern, and had just about everything we needed.

WOW! What an amazing property to stay at for a trip to Portland! I have visited the city many times and stayed in hotels as well as Airbnb’s. This is hands down the best best option for a visit to Portland. The location is fantastic. Right in the heart of everything. Parking at the garage behind the building was very easy and extremely handy. The unit was beautiful. Every detail was well thought through and you can tell no expense was spared when they renovated. I stayed in a 3rd floor unit. It felt like a cozy home! Extremely clean. Everything is very brand new. The bathroom is huge. The kitchen is a great space that has a breakfast bar and was awesome to work from too. The bed was super comfortable. This was also cheaper than a hotel and it was a full on apartment/suite. I’ll never stay anywhere else in Portland. Perfect for a business trip this week. Thanks to the management for such a clean and comfortable gem!

this place seemed to have it all, clean, great location, great setup with kitchen. We loved everything about it but unfortunately our stay was really marred by a horrible stench in the apartment. Just ruined what should have been a wonderful stay. Really disappointing. The smell was prevalent through the apartment but seemed to be strongest in the living room area, the couch and the rug. Solve the smell problem and we would return any time we are in Portland.

Fantastic location & ample space

Walking distance to restaurants, shopping, art galleries and the piers. Ample space to stretch out and get comfortable, including use of the dining table as a working desk. Using my mobile phone for entry was fast and convenient, but I did keep a very close eye on my battery while we were out & about. Would most definitely stay here again!
