Beautiful tranquil setting
Loved this hotel…would highly recommend! Very tranquil setting on outskirts of Stellenbosch, close to many wineries. Attentive friendly staff. Food excellent. Would definitely come again.
Beautiful property with stunning views.
Beautiful spot
Nice place beautiful spot with great view
Great place
Lovely place wish we were staying longer
Average hotel in stunning surroundings with dirty pool and hardly any of the usual amenities, breakfast poor
Delightful stay - Wine-pairing dinner a MUST TRY
We had such a lovely time in this boutique hotel. The staff are professional and helpful. We booked two rooms - one Classic room in the older part of the hotel which is smaller but charming. And another room was assigned in the newer side of the hotel - bigger, more like a city-hotel. The latter was fine for someone who needed to catch-up on emails, etc. Pool is small but in a shaded area and very pleasant. What made this hotel so delightful is the overall setting - so picturesque and tranquil. Also, the wine-pairing dinner was exquisite. Staff are so helpful and keen to engage. We had one of our most memorable dinners here at this hotel. Would definitely recommend this to families and couples!
Magical property with a beautiful rustic modern twist. Felt like I was in heaven honestly. Lovedddd the gardens and the pool. Staff was friendly. It was so peaceful and had amazing views. Plus the food at the restaurant was delicious. The breakfast had nothing to offer for me as I was vegan but the lunch and dinners did!
Best breakfast ever
Lovely hotel, great dinner and best breakfast ever
Always exquisite service and views are spectacular as well as great home made fresh food!
Main bedroom & adjoining children's bedroom, plus bathroom well appointed, lovely & very comfy. Lovely setting. Shame we couldn't stay longer than one night.
Still great but feels tired
This has been one of our favorite hotels, but I found it not as kept-up, perhaps recovering from Covid closures? Breakfast, in particular, even had not-fresh pastries, which for south Africa, is surprising. Our room was made up between day one and day 2, with the bathroom spotless, but bed covers just loosely pulled up, and no vacuuming
Extremely peaceful and laidback. Fell in love with this place
The property was of a good standard the receptionist was appalling gave us wrong information I.e. when I asked about bringing the car nearer to our room she told us we were parked in the correct place and that she would get someone to help she the took us through a warren of corridors to the back of the Hotel down a path to another block I left my wife at the room to deal with the luggage a very helpful polite young man helped me the car was about 35 meters from the reception then another 45 metres to the room it took 3 rerun journeys to get everything moved. I then discover a parking spot 5 meters from our block Not happy the hotel advertises a gourmet restaurant the only thing on the menu were burgers (we were celebrating our 50 th wedding anniversary) the same person took our meal order I asked for a glass of beer which came half empty I asked if she would please top it up to the correct level to be told to stop stressing she walked off to bring another glass this time 3/4 full and walked off it took 20 minutes for anyone to take our food order. The breakfast selection was very good and top quality but the hot food was cold . We were disappointed with our stay and are still waiting for a reply from the hotel management but are not holding our breath
The settings and area is beautiful. The hotel is a bit disjointed and you have to walk quite a way to get to room. Parking near room was not available. The room was lovely but there was not even shower gel. Only one small bar of soap and one small shampoo. The breakfast was also below standard. Not much of a variety. And the lights around our room were not working so the whole building was in darkness and I struggled to get up stairs in the dark. All the bulbs were not working. Very dangerous at night.
A great choice
A lovely hotel in Stellenbosch close to everything you need. I recommend staying here.
Hotel Review - Devon Valley Hotel
The Devon Valley Hotel didn't live up to its 4-star rating. Upon arrival, the staff was not friendly, and our bookings weren't reflecting on their system. As a result, a room was offered that was not ready for guests to check in. There wasn't any extra bedding for when the temperature dipped, the fireplace wasn't working, and the telephone, which should have been used to contact reception, was disconnected and non-functional. Furthermore, we stayed in a room where a wedding took place on the lawns in front of our room, offering little to no privacy (This should have been communicated). Overall a 1-star experience.
Wonderful experience
Warm welcome, fantastic accommodation, lovely surroundings, staff are brilliant
Great view, good food and awesome service.
We took a weekend break from our hectic schedules and this was the perfect place to wind down a bit. The view from the patio is beautiful, the food is great and the room with its semi-private access to the swimming pool was ideal (we were in the manor house).
Beautiful scenery from the patio. The breakfast was amazing, the restaurant was great too. Friendly staff and spacious room!
Really luxurious and wonderful place - the staff are so friendly and helpful and the Junior Suite that I stayed in was sumptious and decorated beautifully. Drinks on the veranda by the fire pit was a real treat. The restaurant is also excellent.
The property landscaping is beautiful. The wait staff in dining area are incredibly friendly and polite. The very upsetting and disappointing visit was we had no water one night so we couldn’t shower or clean up after a long days travel. The second day no hot water and then a little warm water for the next few days. Management did not rectify or compensate for the problem they just made excuses. Will not stay there again.
Peaceful Country hotel
Peaceful and tranquil stay in lovely countryside. Dinner and breakfast service and quality excellent. Was enjoying the views and ambience before the heavy rain. I was impressed that there was an umbrella available in the room to keep us dry walking to the restaurant.
Wonderful location overlooking the vineyards. Large luxurious room. Staff are friendly and helpful. Restaurant food is excellent, only problem is when they have large tour groups, they struggled to cope.
early morning wake-up call
Our only gripe was that they put us in room alongside another which was being refurbished by workmen. This meant we were woken up unceremoniously by workmen dropping hammers and speaking loudly. Just not on, also the air conditioning was faulty!
Superb Winelands Hotel
We stayed for 3 days. Our room was of a very high quality and extremely comfortable. The pool was right outside our room so it was easy to relax after a hard day of sightseeing. The hotel offers wine, gin and whisky tastings at very competitive prices - we did the wine and gin tastings and found them to be excellent. We ate in the hotel each evening and enjoyed excellent meals - particularly the tasting menu paired with wines which, at R650 pp is superb value. Breakfast was also good with a reasonable variety of hot food and an excellent cold buffet, all well prepared. The staff at Devon Valley hotel were very friendly and helpful but specifically we were very impressed with Lydia and Felicity who served us at dinner. Both were knowledgeable about the menu and wines and they had a very positive impact on the dining experience which we thoroughly enjoyed. This was our 3rd stay at the hotel and we would not hesitate to return again.
Great views a little out of the centre of things.
The hotel is situated in the Devon Valley so you’ll need a car to get to Stellenbosch centre. The views are breathtaking from the terrace. Breakfast is wonderful. The rooms are very comfortable other than the mosquitoes which were unbearable. Friends had another room where mosquitoes were not a problem. Plumbing was their problem but it was rectified. The yard could use a good cleaning.
Awesome views
A wonderful place with great food and great service
Excellent Service and Fabulous, Delicious Food
This hotel and restaurant is a haven in the Stellenbosch area. It has a gorgeous view of the mountains. The service is extremely attentive and accommodating. The restaurant is fabulous. I had a wonderful honeydew gazpacho with sherbert that was to die for. My son had the special six course dinner that was paired with a wine from their winery for each course. My husband and I each had a wonderful linefish. Dessert was decadeant but not overpowering. We would have loved to stay longer. Breakfast was also fresh and wonderful with many choices both hot and cold from the buffet. We highly recommend t
Comfortable hotel with pleasant view
Hotel staff very friendly and attentive. Dinner at flavours restaurant was excellent!
Great place to stay.
Rooms we were booked in were quite spacious. WiFi was superb. Breakfast very good. Lunch also good.
Nice hotel with beautiful views - in a vineyard.
Great breakfast. Transportation from airport was arranged through Silvertree tours. Had a great driver - Fred. Ended up hiring him for two days. He showed us to some great places in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Desk staff booked a nice restaurant for us in Franschhoek. Staff could have been more assertive in providing tour information. They basically gave us pamphlets and wished us good luck.
It is a very beautiful part of the world and the food was excellent. The hotel staff were very helpful
We always enjoy visiting Devon Valley, whether to stay or just come to Sunday lunches, usually for our large family gatherings. Only problem this time was that two of the rooms, 12 & 14, had no hot water to shower.
Autumn weekend
Found the hotel after a 40 min drive from Capetown International Airport near the end of the scenic Devon Valley. Beautiful view immediately grabs you from the hotel veranda. Very friendly helpful staff throughout. Old and new parts to the hotel, but that doesn't matter. Amazing food really top notch! Swimming pool edges could do with a bit of TLC but in the surroundings you aren't going to complain!
Beautiful hotel in wine lands.
Needed a place to stay for a wedding. Wished we could spend more time at the hotel. Hotel is old but well preserved, and updated with all the modern conveniences.
Convenient for my meetings in Durban
Business trip
Nice hotel above stellanbosch town with good views
Great hotel booked at last minute lovely views great rooms and very friendly staff restaurant was all very good an great pizzas in the terrace bar
Could do better
Could have been better. I booked 3 nights but as my plans changed, not at the same time. Hotel acknowledged 3 night stay but I still had to move room after one night and get a new key card everyday. Restaurant food could have been better. Quality was unpredictable and menu difficult to understand. Wine tasting menu - good snacks but terrible wine. Tasted like the end of bottles. A pity because the outside terrace is a very pleasant setting for a drink/meal Overall I felt the hotel was geared to groups rather than individual travellers
Devon Valley Hotel
A lovely hotel in a beautiful location.
My Perfect Getaway
Loved every minute of my stay. The reception was extreme helpfull in upgrading my room, the complimentary drink was a nice touch thank you. The Restaurant staff are all so friendly and attentative, had all my meals at Hotel and all were tasty and well presented. The Room was Wow, the views over Valley etc, Highly Recommend this Hotel !
Great staff, clean a little further out but we liked this the most. Breakfast selection was great and rooms were really spacious
Peaceful and classy
It was hard to want to leave the property to go anywhere else
Relaxing stay
Very relaxing.Helpfull and friendly staff.Excellent breakfast.Best pizza!!!
A very pleasant place to stay in the wine area.
Out room was in the older original home on the wine estate. It was called Manorhouse. Very comfortable and pleasant. The restaurant was also well run with good food and great buffet breakfast.
The grounds of the Devon Valley are beautiful. We had to pay more for an upgrade since the original room was really small. Unfortunately, the free WiFi was very unreliable.
Lovely hotel in the Cape Winelands.
Good location, really lovely hotel, with brilliant staff, comfortable and nicely furnished rooms. Roaring fires in the dining room and bar, gorgeous food, and breakfast was exceptionally good. Far too much to eat - again! Excellent base for touring the Winelands, Stellenbosch itself is really beautiful, and the wine tours are a must. Wish every hotel was as welcoming and hospitable as this one. We'd certainly recommend it, and would definitely be happy to stay there again.
Relax and enjoy
Great views and lovely food.
Beautiful stay. Excellent staff.
Really enjoyable 2 nights. Food, hotel staff service and room great. We had a really nice end to our stay in S Africa. We were in room 32 at end of corridor so had no disturbance from other guests. Only downside was shower - v difficult to control temperature. It must have taken at least 5 mins and the amount of a bathful of water before I reached the correct temperature. (Also grout needed cleaning in corners)
Most enjoyable relaxing stay as a prelude to a wedding
Interesting place with great character
Stayed two nights prior to joining a wine tour near Stellenbosch, and we wanted to unwind after flying in from Canada. Very quiet, with wonderful views.
Great comfortable overnight stay
My stay was very comfortable. It is in a safe area and close to Century City. The room was clean. I loved the breakfast.. great breakfast and friendly staff.
Amazing Devon Valley Hotel
We had an amazing stay at the Devon Valley hotel, the staff were so friendly and helpful, and the room was really nice. We also loved the food in their restaurant it was 5 star quality all the way. We will without a doubt go back one day.
Enroute to the airport
Staff were very helpful but the hotel and facilities were a tired.
Beautiful setting
We had a very relaxing time at this hotel. At check in we were given a cold glass of wine and sat on the patio overlooking the vineyards. When we were ready taken to our large room with private patio. The breakfast was excellent, everything you could wish for. The evening meals were always cooked to perfection. The staff always helpful and friendly. On the downside they had a large tour, 48 people, stay while we were there which made the hotel feel crowded and noisy, for one night. There were other smaller tours which stayed mostly one night, which was fine.
Good hotel not far from Cape Town International
Stayed for one night before catching a very early morning flight from Cape Town International. Older facilities, but with very good views of the wine country. Flavours restaurant is excellent. Very comfortable.
Luxury and comfort in Stellenbosch
Comfortable and luxurious, lovely views, good food
Bland hotel bland stay
We traveled to Stellenbosch for a wedding and decided to extend our stay for the long weekend that followed. There was nothing wrong with the hotel but it does feel very corporate and plain with little or no charm. The staff are all very grey and you never feel "looked after" only just accomodated. Breakfast felt like a standard hotel breakfast and nothing to report. Our only annoyance was asking for an extended check out on the last day (as we woke up late and were a little disorganised) but were very reluctantly given and extra 15min (Why bother?) under the excuse that someone needed the room. Check out is at 11 and check in at 2, surely it doesn't take 3 hours to clean a room of that size?
A great getaway in the middle of the wine country.
Stayed at the Devon during our visit with friends. Room, service, food, and scenery were great.
Understated, but excellent value
Great staff, environment, views, but could do with some slight renovation in the overall decor. Family friendly, food to die for, and on a street with some great vineyards and very little traffic. If you want a chill stay then rent a car, pick this place, and travel all over Stellenbosch and the vicinity.
Devon Valley Stay
We loved the Devon Valley Hotel. The staff were so friendly, the hotel clean, the pool clean and great to swim in. The food in the restaurant was amazing. The cooked breakfast was the best I have ever had. All in all we loved the Devon Valley Hotel.
Nice hideaway in Stellenbosch!
The hotel was fantastic! Cozy hideaway in the mountains, good service, lovely staff, nice food and wine tasting! Family suite is very comfortable.
Nice place...perfect for vineyard experience
I found this hotel a bit far from Stellenbosch, its on a lonely road about 10km from main Stellenbosch town which didn't inspire venturing out at night. The room was ok but did not feel 4 star- maybe more 3 star. the food was ok...not particularly brilliant..... overall ok if you are look for comfortable, clean place but not luxury
Need to improve customer service
Great location , good rooms beds comfortable. Staff need to work on their customer service, booked transfer with hotel confirmed by email rechecked with staff definitely booked next day no transport no one new anything!
Great service
We would definitely come back. Service was great, friendly and so easy to get around as long as you have a car. We were only sorry we stayed here one night.
Fantastic
Fantastic place, wonderful rooms, very good breakfast, nice restaurang.
Pleasant hotel as a base for exploring or relaxing
Pleasant and comfortable stay with several cute outdoor areas to pull out a book and read with a pretty vista. Make sure you get a room with a bath tub!
very generic hotel
Clean rooms with a lovely view. Very generic hotel though, we were hoping for a more boutique experience. Very poor restaurant!
fantastic mountain views
excellent value---good food and wine--very good service all round--worth a stay of 2 or more days
A lovely paced hotel in a stunning location
To be fair you could stick a council house in the winelands of Stellebosch and it would look delightful. Rolling vineyards and mountains drenched in summer sun. This hotel capitalises on a great location with great service (one slightly surly barman can be forgiven). The food, wine and room were all delightful. The plunge pool was a welcome restbite from the sun though I suspect the jacuzzi should be covered until winter to stop the local insects falling in. Highly recommended by us as experienced travellers. Come to think of it we did use Welcome Rewards to pay though so can't really comment about value for money!
Average
Not entirely suitable for a business man. Battled do get a document scanned. Umbrella on patio was broken. No steady flow of hot water in the shower. Wi-fi slow and more often than not connecting. Bad cellphone signal in room
Beautiful hotel. Amazing staff. Would recommend to anyone.
Beautiful bedroom and bathroom - classical
Faultless really - the room and the setting was very much in keeping with the heritage of the area.
Peaceful night's sleep
We stayed at the Devon Valley Hotel for a one night stay whilst travelling and found the Hotel plush and polished. Our room had a view out over the valley and was very comfortable. Resturant and bar service was excellent. We had a peacful night's sleep.
Anniversary stay
Amazing hotel with very nice staff. The food and room was great and the bathroom majestic. Very romantic. They even accommodated a late checkout time. Awesome!
Ideal starting point a tour of the Winelands.
Very pleasant surroundings, lovely views, fabulously attentive staff. The food was utterly delicious. Loved every minute of our stay.
Wine Tasting Stellenbosch
We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helped us trace our lost baggage as if it were their own. The heater in our room was not working but we wre given an upgrade and transferred to our rooms with ease and without any issue
great location
We enjoyed our stay.Rooms were clean and comfortable.Staff were friendly and we will definitely visit again.
So relaxing!
The bed was so perfect! Wish i had one like it at home. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the fireplace was a perfect touch. Everything was so peaceful; with gorgeous views and very friendly staff. Great atmosphere in the bar as well, warm and inviting. I enjoyed my stay immensely. Thank You so much!
Beautiful vineyard stay!
My husband, college student daughter and I stayed 2 nights .. .The grounds are lovely - picturesque!! Lovely room, great food! Wonderful suggestions and help from the staff. Would definitely go back ... The only thing to be aware of is that like all of Stellenbosch the internet connection is a bit iffy.
Fabulous hotel / location
We were pleasantly surprised on arrival with our room which had a fire and doors opening up into the bathroom so you could watch TV whilst relaxing in the bath. The staff went out of their way to help and assist us with our onward journey through the Cape. Overall a fantastic hotel and would recommend it to anyone visiting Stellenbosch but wanting to stay out of the centre of town.
Wine Country Base
An excellent location to base yourself for tours of the nearby vineyards. The hotel is in a wondrous setting with amazing views and facilities. Also an excellent place to relax with a very good restaurant and attentive staff. Highly recommended.
Romantic View
Great spot, with stunning view from hotel terrace. Very comfortable room and bed. Service a trifle slow however for dinner.
good choice for wine tasting
A lovely place to stay, very clean, comfortable and peaceful.fantastic breakfasts, incredibly helpful staff.Robert was a real gem helping us out when we had trouble with the internet.Close enough to visit the nearby town which was worth visiting. Some great places to taste wine nearby including The Devon Valley.
An Oasis in the Winelands
We loved our stay in Devon Valley Hotel. The place was beautiful - rooms furnished with an old world feel and amenities suited for a comfortable sojourn. It is definitely perfect if you want some romance and relaxation.
Delight
We have stayed in many boutique country hotels around the world and Devon Valley Hotel delighted us beyond fairly high expectations. Stunning rooms and beautiful outlook.
lovely hotel full of charm, perfect bedrooms
great setting and landscape, very accessible from stellenbosch. very good bedrooms and breakfast. nice staff. the downside is that hotel could be more/better organised. management seems a bit amateurish. we had two rooms (a normal and a superior), and the superior is definitely worth the price difference. would recommend, despite minor flaws.
Beautiful hotel and setting
Gorgeous setting, helpful staff, beautiful buildings, excellent food and service. Only suggestion to the owners is to mark the signs differently for the entrance because we entered the "first" entrance which took us out of our way, it was difficult to turn around, and we thought we were totally lost.
Awesome
It was fabulous. Thank you very much. The hotel is well kept. The personnel are really friendly all the time. They let you feel at home.
For winelands and Cape Town surrounds
Really relaxing and comfortable stay. Staff were very attentive - would recommend to anyone
Beautiful location & incredible food!
I wish I could have stayed longer. Had I known how luxurious it would be, I would have scheduled my trip around it.
We visited the Devon Valley Hotel for a quick, one-night getaway. Located less than an hour from our home, it meant achieving the seclusion of the valley without a long drive. The setting is splendid and the warm welcome from the staff immediately sets one at ease and makes you feel at home. Our luxury room was clean and beautifully appointed, with a fireplace adding the perfect ambience to a winter's evening. The fare in the restaurant is exquisite and well-priced. No doubt the Devon Valley Hotel will be top of our list when planning another breakaway.
Always a pleasure to stay at the Devon Valley
I cannot recommend the Devon Valley Hotel too highly. The staff are superb, wonderful people. And their anticipation of every need is uncanny.
Devon Valley Hotel - perfect base for wine tasting
We stayed in the Devon Valley Hotel in Feb, the weather was perfect (28C each day, bright sun, cloudless blue skies) & the location (high up the DV Road) quiet & yet only 10 minutes from the centre of Stellenbosch. Numerous vineyards were within 15 minutes drive. The hotel superbly balanced impeccable service with a relaxed atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious, comfortable, charming, well equipped & we enjoyed our own patio space with views down the valley. The hotel pool was an oasis, the restaurant served stylish & delicious food & were impressed by the wine recommendations (many from their own Sylvan Vale Winery) for each dish
Good food but several maintenace issues
Excellent buffet breakfasts and woodoven pizzas on Friday and Saturday eves. However constant electrical problems in our room (47) which meant no a/c for a week and no lights at all one day. Never resolved. Childens playground v small and run down. Outdoor pool unheated and completely in shade due to overgrown trees. Sloping access path to pool muddy and uneven. Drive past massive municipal dump on way to hotel. Parking far away from new 2 storey accomodation wing. Bourganvillia over car park exit scratching everyones cars Often no daily newspapers No fridge in room or icemaker. Doorless shower and no extraction fan in bathroom. Regular room rate v expensive by local standards.
Delightful Devon Valley
Yet another wonderful time (3rd visit) spent at this lovely hotel. We were upgraded to a Vineyard room which was superb although all the rooms are lovely. The staff are the most helpful and friendliest we have come across in our travels. Meals as always excellent and the wine list is really good.
Wonderfully relaxing place to stay!
While in South Africa, we stayed four nights at this fabulous hotel and were pleasantly surprised at every turn. The food was exceptional, the rooms ultra modern and luxurious. The views of the valley and vineyards from the rooms were great. The hotel is in the middle of wine conutry and a great base for local tours.
Lacking water, the hot water is dirty… no refrigerator in the room. Staff is nice and polite, but hotel needs upgrade.
The Devon Valley Hotel | Hotel in Stellenbosch | Travala.com
We had a fantastic stay at The Devon Valley Hotel. It offers a serene escape with stunning vineyard views and the Helderberg Mountains as a backdrop. Our room, although small, was elegantly furnished and had a spacious shower room. The staff provided warm hospitality and the food/wine was exceptional. The secluded outdoor pool and beautiful gardens were fantastic too, and offered a peaceful retreat after a long day cycling around wineries. Highly recommended for a luxurious and comfortable stay.
