Its a beautiful location with a wonderful old-school setup. The breakfast basket was an excellent touch.
I found The Carriages to be extremely quiet and suited my needs whilst attending a conference at the Hunter
The property was beautiful and Nerida and Alistar were lovely.
Absolutely loved staying at the Carriages. Lovely room with everything you need, great open fire and very comfortable lodging. Very friendly people and great breakfast
Quiet central location. Cosy open fireplace and sunny verandah.
Love this getaway- the property was cosy, comfortable and conveniently close to everything. Loved the open fireplace it was romantic with a bottle of red and a cheese board. Would stay again 5 star
Loved our stay here. It’s a quiet and serene location. Room is clean and comfortable. Plenty of wood for the fireplace . Large wide verandah to enjoy the tranquility. Walked to circa 1876 restaurant only 5 mins away.
It was a beautiful and peaceful location
Great value
Peace in amongst all the action.
The Carriages is such a peaceful and beautiful place to stay in the Hunter. So central but it seems like it's so far away from all the activity and very secluded.
Excellent location, nice and cosy rooms, friendly staff. Definitely coming back...
Pleasant stay
Pleasant stay
Comfortable room and amenities in a peaceful bushland setting.
The Carriages stay was just what my wife n I needed, a log fire, luxury bed and home comforts. The property offers relaxation and a swimming pool/tennis court. Highly recommend in such a convenient spot to the Hunter Winery region. Thanks for a lovely stay
It’s beautiful property away from everything. Perfect place to relax. Hosts are lovely people, helpful and understanding. We have been here 25 years ago and if anything it’s better now. We will be back.
The Carriages is set in the lovely Hunter Valley, we stayed in a comfortable sized room for 2 people and enjoyed our hamper containing our breakfast which we ate on the beautiful wrap-a-round verandah. The owners were very helpful and polite.
We loved the gardens and view spreading out towards the tennis courts. It's verandah has seating outside to see the views and just to relax on
comfortable but needs an upgrade
please buy new pillows
The bed was awful. So hard it was like sleeping on the floor. The couch is also very saggy. The bathroom was old.
A wonderful greeting. A lovely setting. Convenient location. Great customer service. Plenty of old world charm.
The location is beautiful and the hosts are so welcoming & lovely. It is a guest house so you are connected directly to your Neighbour’s. It was enjoyable for us but just to say, your Neighbour’s are important!
Great hosts and convenient location but the property needs serious renovation - air conditioning unit didn’t make much difference in the room when the temperature outside was 30+ C, shower didn’t work properly either as it sprayed all directions when it was on and furniture is very old and tired. At the moment, I would rate it as 2+ star hotel at the best.
A lovely place to stay. The room is big with everything you need. The bed is comfy too. The best thing about his place is the nature around. You could wake up to see kangaroos, rabbits, wild ducks and more around the property. The lovely breakfast basket prepared by the property owner is delivered to your door step. We had our croissants and sour dough bread, butter spread, fresh fruits, orange juice etc, under the tree in front of our rooms. What a great relaxing place. Highly recommended!
The room was in a guesthouse building in a lovely, secluded cottage-style garden overlooking the vines, with a pool to the side. The bed was comfortable, the room clean and homely and breakfast was simple and good quality (fresh coffee grounds provided in the room). The owners were friendly and full of knowledge and recommendations regarding the area. They were very helpful and accommodating- even giving us a lift to a local restaurant on check out!
Stunning backdrop and property. Felt very homely as an estate and homestead.
Property was quite secluded and very peaceful, surrounded by trees and gardens.
The property is perfectly positioned to explore the whole area. Lovely setting and fine attention to detail from the owners. We wanted something that didn't feel like a hotel room. The gables ticked this box.
The hosts were amazing from the moment we arrived until we left. Their suggestiins of places to go in the area were all fabulous. The breakfast basket was amazing and we will def recommend to anyone visiting thecarea.
A fabulous place to stay which is very quiet and still close to all the local wineries and great restaurants. The breakfast basket is a lovely touch and enjoy in a wonderful setting. Highly recommended!!
I needed a relaxing place to stay to unwind in a short period of time. The Carriages were exactly what I needed! A tranquil setting away from the hustle and bustle, the suite my best friend and I stayed in was private, clean, and oh so quaint. We relaxed, took a dip in the salt water pool, and were able to eat a nice dinner only minutes away. The staff and owners were absolutely lovely! We awoke to an overflowing basket of breakfast goodies outside our door--even down to a freshly squeezed orange juice! There was never a moment we did not love our stay! My friend and I plan to return with not only our families, but friends as well. A definite small business worth supporting. Very highly recommended!
Lovely room Host extremely welcoming and friendly Would recommend it to everyone
Lovely location great property & exceptional hosts. A big Thank you.
Beautiful location, very cool old rooms, super cozy. And got wine with check-in!
Great location
Lovely location and staff. Good rooms but needs a bit of a makeover or professional clean of duvets and couches.
Great staff. Great location Breakfast brought to the room. But same breakfast every day - boooring The n there are the mozzies. Even with all the doors closed I got eaten alive every night.
Wonderful experience
We stayed in a verandah room and were very comfortable. We were delighted with the decor and the idyllic setting -especially sitting on the verandah reading and sipping Carriages 2013 Chardonnay and soaking up the relaxing and beautiful views. The breakfast basket each morning was generous and nourishing and delivered without a fuss. The staff were warm, welcoming and accommodating. The location is ideal for events at Hope Estate (the reason for our trip up to the Hunter Valley) and Muse restaurant for an outstanding Spring inspired dinner with matching wines. Highly recommend The Carriages and surrounds.
Charming and peaceful vineyard stay
We stayed in the gatehouse, an old cottage in the middle of the vineyard. Despite it being a busy weekend in the Hunter, we definitely felt alone at The Carriages. The property offers the perfect mix of privacy and proximity to some of the best the Valley has to offer. The wines grown on the property are excellent, the comforts are numerous and the sights are endless. Being set back a couple of kilometres from the main highway, you get peace and quiet in abundance, surrounded by nature. Lovely place to stay.
Lovely private B&B in a secluded spot. Perfect for a romantic weekend away. We really enjoyed sitting by the fireplace in the evening & getting breakfast delivered to the room each morning. Beautiful grounds, walking distance to wineries & restaurants
Very quaint, lovely hosts, clean room, and great breakfasts. Would definitely return!
Character home in easy walk to trendy cafes.
Lovely night stay, keen to return for longer. Rain did not dampen our enjoyment of the town or the accommodation. The lovely warming fire in the guest lounge was very welcoming.
Comfortable stay, lovely place and friendly hosts!
It was a beautiful place, the breakfast basket was amazing and the owners are a lovely couple who make you feel welcome all the time. It was our first trip to Hunter Valley region and was totally worth.
Lovely character accommodation
Hosts are warm and friendly and happy to accommodate where needed. Room was comfortable, however, the kitchenette area and main floor were not as clean as expected. Thought you should know so you could let your cleaner know. Everything else was great and we thank you for your hospitality. We will come again and would recommend your accommodation to others.
Beautiful settings, clean rooms and the owners are very friendly. Absolutely love their wines. Continental breakfast served to your door each morning is lovely. Fireplace in the room is a great bonus. Central to everything the hunter valley has to offer. Loved it.
amazing cottage style hotel
Amazing location, peaceful and quiet surrounded with winyards and nature, very close to everything. Staff is super nice and very helpful. The room is very spacious and clean. Breakfast is delivered every morning in a cute basket right to your door. Definitely coming back!
Could not fault it, and i must say I tend to find it easy to pick fault usually. Highly recommend.
Luxurious & Relaxing
Peaceful, quiet, picturesque, relaxing. Close to all the Hunter Valley has to offer. Ideal for concerts at the local wineries.
Perfect retreat in peace and tranquility
Wines are excellent and the location is central but also tucked away. super helpful caretakers of the venue. Will go again :)
Quiet, peaceful & comfortable.
Narima & Alistair were lovely hosts and went out of their way to make us feel at home (particularly on the first night when they organised us dinner because we arrived quite late). The room was immaculately presented and very comfortable. We had a lovely breakfast delivered to our door every morning and the room next door had all the facilities we could possible want that was available whenever we wanted it...beautiful fresh plunger coffee, a stocked kitchen, and so much more.
Abosolutely magical
A beautiful hotel with such a nostalgic and peaceful atmosphere. We received such a warm welcome from the owners and the staff that we met were delightful. The room was impeccable, a great size and oozed old world charm. A welcoming cheese board was waiting for us in the fridge in our room and the daily breakfast basket was fantastic filled with croissants, bread, an assortment of spreads, fresh fruit salad, muesli, yoghurt and fresh juice. The swimming pool and surrounds were excellent. I would highly recommend The Carriages to anyone and the accommodation for our next trip to the Hunter will be at The Carriages.
Lovely Hotel with lots of charm.
Lovely Hotel with charm. Excellent location near wineries and eateries. Lovely and attentive host.
Carriages Pokolbin
Fabulous - Nerina was a wonderful host. Incredibly relaxing and quiet.
Cottage in the Vineyards
Lovely peaceful stay among the vineyards. Owners were very friendly and helpful and they make a nice Shiraz too!!
A country idyll in the Hunter Valley
This hotel has recently changed hands. We stayed mid-week off season - two couples sharing a joint living area. It was quiet because of the time of year but we were struck by the effort the new owner was putting into correcting minor maintenance issues, her friendliness and the lovely breakfast delivered to the room. A great spot and we wish the new owners every success with it.
Fabulous location
The Carriages is a fantastic location in the Hunter Valley. Close to the centre of it all, but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet. The breakfast provided is lovely.
Comfortable Hunter Valley Accomo
Quaint accomodation, well located in Pokolbin. Friendly helpful staff, great breakfast and good facilities (tennis courts & pool).
Rustic charm
It is close to all the attractions. The house has a lot of character. It is decorated with cute vintage furniture and the bed is very comfy! Lovely outdoor furniture on the deck where you can enjoy your breakfast. The owner provided a very nice breakfast basket. The only downside is that there is no wifi.
This is a lovely hotel, but overall I was disappointed
A fantastic weekend getaway!
I would highly recommend Carriages for anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle for the weekend. Set back from the main road, the hotel was very quiet and comfortable and the grounds were beautifully manicured and maintained. The fireplace in the room was very pleasant and the breakfast basket delivered to the door each morning was a lovely touch. the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. they even went to the effort of outlining their favourite places to eat and visit and texted me in advance to see if I would like a cheese platter on arrival. We would also strongly recommend their award winning Shiraz. Thanks Carriages!
Lovely hotel but needs some loving care
We stayed here for two nights at a cost of $300 per night including a breakfast basket. The hotel itself was quaint and in lovely grounds however we found our room very dated and tired looking with a fairly average bathroom. The room was quite small but considering we weren't there much during the day it was fine for our purposes. We just hade to use the outside balcony to eat our meals as there was no room inside which was fine for breakfast but if you wanted to eat a take away dinner you'd be pretty cold sitting out there of an evening. The staff were very pleasant and helpful but I'm affaid I don't really have anything else great to say about the place. We assumed the "kitchenette" would have kitchen facilities of at least a microwave and small hot plate however there was only a warming oven which was broken so didn't close properly and wasn't very helpful to heat our take away risotto we brought home one night. It took about 45 minutes to heat it up! Likewise the phone in the room didn't work which meant we had to call the office using our phone. The breakfast basket had cereal options and breads/croissant but I assumed the breakfast basket would come with bacon and eggs to cook etc (not realising the room doesn't really have any cooking facilities). So a croissant/toast or a bowl of cereal and some fruit and fresh OJ was pretty much it for breakfast which wasn't terribly exciting and a tad overpriced I'd say if that was supposed to be part of the room cost.
It was a lovely, quiet place to stay. Some nice touches with the daily breakfast basket and the boutique wines.
Comfortable rustic style guest house amidst vines
Glorious rustic style guest house suites located down a dusty road in the middle of a vineyard. A very warm reception from Rebecca- nothing was too much trouble. Rooms very clean and comfortable, with country antique furniture. Brilliant breakfast basket delivered at 8 with everything you could wish for. A tranquil break from a hectic world .... and their wine is as good as anything we tasted at the cellar doors!
Awesome hotel, definitely stay again
From the outset Rebecca and her husband were great to deal with. We have 2 small children and they went above and beyond offering to take items out of the room before we arrived that may have been an issue for the children. The freshly baked bread in a basket delivered each morning was lovely, and really nice walks through the vines to other little wineries for tastings.
Peaceful retreat
We had a wonderful mini break away. Carriages was just the right place for us to unwind and relax.
Very quiet location
Very quiet location within walking distance of Pepper Tree Wines and The Convent.
Lovely cottage feel
Have often driven down this road to look at the convent but not as far to see the carriages but wow, what a find. The Carriages is a large homestead (best word I can find) that has individual rooms set along a very long and wide timber balcony. We were in room 6 which is a little smaller but being at the end of the building with a view of the pool and seeing a little of the wildlife (kangaroo), we thought it was amazing. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom and shower very good. The only complaint is the TV is in the corner of the room thus you have to sit on the lounge to watch anything not that we did but we listened to the music on it. The breakfast is ample with cereals, some bread to make toast and croissants with various jams and marmalades plus orange juice and coffee/tea you can make up in your room anytime. They also have some wine they make but only in small batches but it was very good. The young lady host at reception was wonderful and a joy to talk to. Can't not rate it a 5. We will be back.
Perfect location in the centre of the hunter
Perfect location for a great weekend away, clean amenities, nice breakfast basket, pool was a welcome relief on a very hot summers day.
Private, comfy and close
we were welcomed on a 47.5 degree afternoon with a room well prepped with AC and refreshments sorted in time. Staff were very pleasant and helpful with all enquires. They showed genuine concern when we raised tiny items needing a bit of maintenance but really was a very comfortable and delightful experience.
lovely vineyard escape accommodation
beautiful location with lovely gardens- they appeared booked out but we hardly saw anyone else, very private access and lots of different sitting and playing areas. very conveniently located and loved the pool, very private and pretty
Fantastic stay
We had the best stay at Carriages! The location was great, the room perfect and the service was outstanding. We had great recommendations on things to do and they helped us book tours and bike rentals. Highly recommend!
Great staff and facilities
Just a great base for the surrounding wineries etc. Would be great for a group
Great place, peaceful setting yet still central to the area.
Clean, tidy very snug and comfortable and quiet.
The Staff were very friendly and helpful and when we needed to make changes the response was quick and they were happy to help. very professional and again the service was extremely pleasing and comforting.
Lovely setting, fantastic breakfast.
Nestled in a quiet corner of an old country-style house, our room had a lovely outlook to bush in one direction and vines in the other. We enjoyed sleeping in and lounging around on the verandah of our laid-back and comfy room. And the breakfast! Croissants, toast, cereal, juice, cereal, yogurt, fruit, coffee. All fresh and delicious, waiting at the door each morning.
Quaint, quiet and traditional
Beautiful secluded and peaceful location on a small winery. Rooms are traditionally furnished with comfortable beds and a lovely touch is the breakfast basket delivered daily to the door containing cereals, fruit, pastries and bread for toasting. Very much a guest house feel with shared communal cooking and eating areas. Verandas are shared with all other guests so although the rooms are quiet, all outdoor seating areas are shared with neighbours. Only criticism is that the signposting around the site needs to be more clear - we drove for 10mins trying to find our room after checking in at reception!
