Walls were paper thin and we could hear everything. The expressway was so close you could hear every car on it. The property needs serious updates, the stairs to the second level are very sketchy with rust holes. I could go on, would NOT recommend this motel to anyone.
Very friendly, easy check in, great parking. The decor is awesome, much more memorable than a big chain.
Why wouldn’t you want to stay here!
Fun motel room for a road trip weekend!
Such a fun place to stay . We dont eat there as we are plant based but really enjoy the bar, and dog friendly. Easy checkin too! Great service…
Check in was easy, the roon is a good value for the price.
Rooms were old west days. We are not excepting that. Rooms were good.
This was my first time with the keyless no contact room entry. But it went well . Was a bit nervice that code did not work first try, but went ok. Easy to contact front desk by text. The old west look was great. Have a great day partner.
the hotel was quirky. Rooms was good for the price. A little outdated. The food next door was good.
I love this place!
A little old west charm. Rooms are clean, but rustic, so dont be looking for a Waldorf type of pampering. Great if you know what your looking for. The steak house is a walk across the lot. Get the filet! Just great! Chick sandwich great!
What an adorable place! Easy check in/out Cute rooms Loved the restaurant Staff
Fun place to stay
Don't usually stay at Motels but decided what the heck. It had a fun atmosphere and was comfortable for passing through. We ate at the steakhouse before, was just a little hungary so got a kids meal, plent of food and gave us some cowboy hats. Thought that was fun
The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. I got there too late to eat dinner and breakfast was too late for my departure time. Luckily there was a Bucees right down the road. A possible safety option: a way to bolt the door from the inside, I was traveling without my husband and was uneasy about a single door lock.
Worst time
We get to the motel and there was no one to check us in. The door had a sign that said to call the number to be checked. We get our rm # and the key code and the door never open. The girl that check us in on the phone offer another room at a different hotel. We get to the other hotel and it was run down very noisy due to it being next to a bar and people were fighting. I told her that this was not going to work and left.
The room was great! Clean, quiet, comfortable beds. Only complaint about the room was the shower had drain issues, very slow to drain. Shower pressure was amazing! Steaks at the Texan steakhouse were overpriced, typical tourist trap. On this trip weve eaten at multiple steakhouses, this was the worst. Rolls were great though. Will stay at this hotel again.
Great place. Enjoyed our time.
Clean spacious rooms with comfortable beds. Great location and free parking by your room. Fantastic friendly staff. Self-checkin and keypad access to your room. Horse hotel on the property and dog park.
Great stay for a weary traveler. The steak house was the best experience
This place is fantastic. Great staff
Big Texan - Meh.
EZ check in. Very convenient. Room was clean. Ceiling needs work. Mattress sucks, especially right next to nightstand where there’s a 2”collapse. Should’ve been replaced years ago. Bed sheets are rough/ abrasive.
THE PLACE WAS OLD AND RUN DOWN
Meh
It was ok. The rooms were relatively clean and the price was great, but it's a motel. It looks and feels like a motel. All the high reviews for this place are misleading. The pictures are misleading. We stayed at Embassy Suites coming back through town and it was much more comfortable.
Great western theme rooms, awesome restaurant next door
Mostly clean, but Okay at best
Living area and linens, towels, sink, toilet and shower all clean. The ceiling in bathroom of 214 is a different story. There was clearly a leak above the tub/shower. It was "repaired" but badly. A previous guest plugged a hole in the corner of the shower with TP, prob in case a camera was lurking up their (no idea if there was. I didnt remove it. Mold growing along the repair and around light. Walls are thin; Conversations of neighbors clear and understandable. There are annoying saloon doors between living area and bathroom, loud and creaky, one was damaged. They would wake guests sleeper if someone went through.
Love the theme!
Great stay, comfy bed, clean room. A little noisy at first but we slept well.
Great spot, must see.
Walking distance to the Big Texan.
Very easy for everything
Fun route 66 hotel
Cool, kitschy, place with lots of parking. (We had a pickup and trailer) love the horse hotel right on the property, we ate at the restaurant and checked out the gift shop, good food and fun atmosphere there
Fun stay and clean with good service. Dog friendly!
Check bed in 205/window bed i have bites they may be bites from bed bugs
We loved the contactless check in. The shower was AMAZING!
Fun place good food and great price
Theme was great and unique. Beds were comfy. You could hear the highway though. Neighbouring restaurant was great.
Great location! Great stay!
The motel was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. The beds were comfortable, the western decor was appropriate! Check in was a breeze and love the keyless entry! If ever in the area again, I'll definitely book here! Great location to explore the area too. The Big Texas steak house is next door and has a great menu selection! The Palo Duro Canyon was 45 minutes away and beautiful! Book here!
Nice stay great food!
Fun memories
For the kitsch factor, 100% worth it. The restaurant is a classic roadside attraction with a lot to enjoy, the food is...not the best but they sure give you a lot of it! The room itself was clean and had some cute amenities, although the mattress could use replacing. You'll have some good memories of staying!
This property was my Route 66 dream come true! LOVED the kitschy feel of the property. Our room was updated with a western flair! The staff was friendly. Property was clean. LOVED!
WHAT A DUMP!!!
Arrived and no one at the front desk. Had to have an IPhone in order to opened the door. 25 degrees out and trying to figure out the lock system and then climbing up stairs that lead to nowhere and iced to boot, coupled with once in the room disappointed is being kind.
Kitschy and quirky, so you'll like it if you like that kind of thing. Friendly and efficient staff when checking in. It's right near the highway, so bring earplugs to get a good night's sleep. The shower faucet in my room was dripping, but the room was clean and all the amenities stated on their page. Worth the price, no doubt.
Great check in, received code for door prior to arrival
The only good thing about this place is Yesenia. What a dive. No elevator, so we needed a main floor room bc we are older and my husband has had 3 back surgeries and unable to haul bags up the flight of stairs. They literally charged us an additional fee for this room bc she said it has a new ceramic floor. My mouth dropped when I walked into this room, what a sh-hole. Everything is old, the mattress is thin, comforter and pillows vintage and thin, shredding blankets, shower didn’t drain, peeling ceiling in bathroom and over the bed. I was appalled they charged me for my dog to stay there, her crate is nicer than this place.
Great place to stay!!
What a great hotel, the rooms was spacious and rustic design the beds were very comfortable. The shower was terrific. I loved the coffee cups. And signing the four with my start What a great stay! Front fest staff Yesenia was such a very nice, sociable person who got us checked in quickly and efficiently.
Great travelers spot. Pleasant surprise on our way to Colorado from Florida. Taste of the old western days
We have stayed at The Big Texan 4 times now and love it every time! Clean, comfortable and in a very convenient location. Can’t wait to come back!
Bugs
I woke up in the middle of the night itching all over. I had bites all over my body. I looked and found a couple of small black insects in the bed, I'm not sure what they were. But it made me feel horrible and spoilt my weekend away. We were due to spend another night, but checked out. When booking this hotel, it looked nice in the photos, but apart from the bugs it was overall pretty tired especially the bathrooms. So I am personally advising caution.
Nice comfortable place.
Easy check in and nice room
Cute hotel. A little noisy but feel like it was a white noice machine.
The bed was very comfy. The room was nice and clean. The Big Texan restaurant is just across the parking lot (with yummy food). The Texas ranch theme of the room was cute, if a bit cheesy. The staff were friendly and helpful. The price was very reasonable. Overall a nice stay.
Nice stay
Unique motel, furnished very western, clean, comfortable, Restraunt nextdoor very good, had office girl help get TV going, under front door cold air came in, thermostat on heater did not work well, bathroom nice
It was conveniently located next to Big Texan Steak, but the noise from I 40 went thru the windows and doors. The beds were comfortable.
Room is so quaint and amazingly quiet considering we are right by I40. Large room & bathroom with comfy bed , nice kitchenette, very clean and better than the pics!! Easy checkin by text, I really love the convenience of this!
Could not locate a staff member in the office
Perfect Texas kitsch with best steakhouse in the land
Yessi at the front desk is awesome! This is the second stay here that she made wonderful! Had a great dinner and stay at the big Texan!
Pretty easy check-in. No room key, just a code emailed. Was in the back building. Could have been lit a little bit better in the parking area. The room was clean in the bedroom okay comfortable.
Great place
Aesthetically pleasing for sure , housekeeping and front desk was very welcoming . Downfall was there was no closet and shared parking with restaurant.
Great place! Western theme to match Big Texan. Awesome place and price. Runs like an Airbnb.
Wonderful stay
We ate at Steakhouse and then got in our room to watch football. Got to AFC game but not NFC, bummer.
Mediocre at Best
Chose to stay because of the positive reviews, but it was definitely not up to par with those reviews. Definitely needs a good deep clean and some TLC. Floors, desks, tables, etc. were super dusty. Showers had peeling paint and no hot water, leaky faucets, missing towel hooks, broken mystery deadbolt did not work at all... Overall, not a great experience and we won’t be back.
Adequate for the price. Everything was clean and functional, but both the beds in our room were pretty uncomfortable. Old, squeaky mattresses… like sleeping on an old hide-a-bed.
Id Rather Sleep In A Gas Station Bathroom
If you ever wanted to sleep in a gas station bathroom, then book yourself a room at the Big Texan, but beware you’re probably more likelt to catch a disease or skin rash from the Big Texan than you would a gas station bathroom. Rooms not as advertised in photos. FILTHY DIRTY NASTY. The sides of our mattress were disgusting, there was a stain that was uncleaned, and no other way to describe than clearly poop. This lead me to believe the bedding also wasn’t cleaned to appropriate standards. The overall vibe of the room was grows, run down, and dirty. The ceiling in our room was falling off, peeling all over. There was writing on the walls, dirty bathtub with poor quality amenities like styrofoam cups, cheap old soaps, and the heater was broken. I can not name one thing that i enjoyed about this hotel other than LEAVING! DO NOT DO NOT BOOK A ROOM HERE. DISGUSTING! Awful gross. It will haunt me for the rest of my life!
Payed $20 for pet, had a very small fake green square for dog potty in the middle of all cement lots. The square was filthy and full of poop. The interstate noise was very loud all night long. The room was clean, but negatives outweighed any positive.
I stay here all the time. I am mad I had to take cold showers for two days.
Wonderful stay highly recommended
Dont bother
The only good thing was cleanliness. The faucets ran or dripped all night. The ceiling was falling down. The furniture was broken. None of the faucets were stable. I got this as an"upgrade" since it was on the first floor and i am unable to carry a suitcase upstairs.
Will not stay here again
Not a good experience. Check in was a nightmare and the motel office was locked (did not arrive late), beds were hard and squeaky with only a light blanket, and our room had no hot water. The noise from the highway is loud and the rooms are minimally furnished at best.
We loved everything about this place except one thing, the water temp is way to cool. It was annoyingly tepid. I want a hot shower not an almost cool one that you step out of the spray and step back in after ya get cold to trick yourself into thinking it’s a lil warm. Except for that everything else was really cool and fun. Food was excellent at the restaurant too. Raise the water temp and 5 stars all the way
There are never enough towels in the rooms for more than 3 people, even when you request them prior to arrival.
Liked decor Loud heater didn’t like
Nice, convenient place to stay one night.
Worst steak I've ever had the misery of attempted eating.
Great motel attached to Big Texan-pet friendly
Economical and pet friendly. Great location for east west travelers.
It was amazing
Awesome
Get the King room suite.
We stayed in the suite above the office. #200. Very roomy, western decor. We will definitely be back.
Uncomfortable beds, pillows, blanket/comforter was awful. Lovely rainwater showerhead but caulk between tub/wall was non-existent, entirely black. Then the toilet overflowed, no one poo'd or used too much paper, so it had to be in the sewage line and we had sewage backed into our bathroom. Dont even want to think about the mechanics of that one. It was so gross. Never again.
Will not stay again.
Bed was very hard, crack under door you could see light through and had a cold breeze blowing through it, lamps did not work.
The Big Texan may not be a fancy place but the staff and adjacent restaurant was delightful.
Horrible check in experience
I arrived at about 11:00 pm and the front desk was gone, they leave at 10:00pm. There is a phone number to call but it put me in voice mail. So, I decided to check my email (I had been driving all day) and there were a few emails from the motel. But there was no room number or entry code email. I called the given phone number again and this time someone did answer. She gave me a room number but when I went to the room I could hear dogs inside, obviously it had already been assigned to someone else. She gave me another room and the problem was finally resolved after about 1/2 hr. Context: the temperature was in the teens in F, -8 in Celsius.
I very cute and very clean motel. We have stayed twice and throughly enjoyed it both times.
It was a cute place to stay with an awesome restaurant, friendly staff and comfortable beds.
Just not what you’d expect really cool for one night but that’s it
The property was good and clean. However, it’s not that great for sound, as you can hear everything from outside. Check in after 10 is done via the phone. Overall, a good nights sleep.
Same as above
Great fun.
The room was clean but bed very uncomfortable due to big dip in middle, bathroom showerhead was nice but it was too big for such a small shower. About blew you away. Didnt care for dowdy decor. Windows needed cleaned. Our meal was good tho.
We love the Texas charm!
Love the Big Texan Motel. Always clean and comfy. The shower head is wonderful and we love walking over to the Big Texan restaurant. Also, the coffee amenities are a plus.
Big thanks for the great support
This place is over the top Texas
Location and motif was excellent, easy access and quiet also pet friendly. Mattresses were worn out at best and TV outdated. The bathtub faucet had paint on it and the bathtub was in very poor condition. Everything was extremely clean!
The staff was very pleasant and helpful
Excellent location where you can walk to the restaurant next door.
Good place to stay at
The bath tub in the room had water in it when we checked in. There was a slight smell of sewer gas. But it went away and was fine. The tub slowly drained that evening. But water back up through the drain the next morning. We were unable to bathe during our stay. I tried to tell someone the next morning but there was no one in the front office. Overall it was an OK stay

Beware!!!! Bedbugs!!!!
We arrived late into the evening, dropped our bags off and ran to eat dinner. We hadn’t returned to our room until closer to 11pm. As we settled in for the night; my husband noticed a bug on our bed. He brushed it into the toilet to throw it away. As I was nursing our 7 month old; I noticed another bug on my pillow. We looked it up and both bugs looked like adult bedbugs. We called the front desk and they said they would relocate us to their sister hotel the Cactus Cove Inn and Suites; that they would completely refund our stay. They provided us a receipt saying that the stay was refunded; however, the charge remains on our card. About two days after this motel stop I had itchy bite marks on my arm, as is congruent with bedbug bites. I’ve reached out to hotels.com and they contacted the motel. The motel manager is now refusing to refund our stay. This was an enormous inconvenience for us, as we had to relocate hotels that night at midnight with a seven month old baby. It is also very disappointing that Hotels.com is unable to do anything about this. I utilize this site for many of my travels. One would think that a company would take care of their loyal customers…guess not! Do yourself a favor and avoid booking a night at this motel and booking through hotels.com.
