Overall good hotel, however since my last stay in 2019 the hotel has aged, with rooms seriously needing upgrades.
Old property from 1980 with limited eating options and poor service
Overall, very good
A short walk to many restaurants and the lovely boardwalk. There is a pedway connecting the hotel to various other buildings. This is very convenient.
This property has to be the dirtiest and unkept rooms I’ve ever stayed into in my life. The electrical outlets were loose in the walls causing the lights to flicker when they were turned on. The was a piece of 2 x 4 screw on the wall behind the bed. The dirt around the lamps was disgusting. In the bathroom the laminate was fallen off the counter. The mold and dirt around the tub had to scraped to get rid of it. The hotel is in desperate need of upgrades. It is super conveniently located to where a lot of people would want to be but it’s a money grab. Rooms are only cleaned every 3 days which is horrible. Called down to guest services for toilet paper and after an hour had to call again. The wallpaper is falling off some of walls. Air conditioning system has to be the original one installed. So hot in the room at night.
Front desk staff did an excellent job moving us to a different room and offering complementary breakfast but the reason they had to move us was not the best. Great staff just a rough area that the hotel is located in I guess.
Great Stay !
Staff were friendly and helpful . Great location downtown and easy to get to the waterfront . Washrooms were clean and for the most part facilities were easy to use . The shampoo and soap dispensers were however difficult to squeeze for anyone lacking strength . Showers could possibly use more grips . Otherwise great stay ,
The staff were all excellent, super nice and helpful!
Due to an issue at home, we had to leave the hotel, 30 min after checking in and lost our money. Very disappointed that you have to prepay your room. Brian Semple.
Average hotel, decent value- don’t like room not being cleaned daily or that nearest parking is quite a walk away. Bar /restaurant closes at 10 which I find early. Staff helpful, amenities accessible but nothing special
Convenient location for sure!
Hallway noise was very loud as we were near the elevator but overall, it was clean and centrally located. More clear information about the parking within the Hotels.com would be helpful - we had to go to the hotel's regular website as well as rely on our own local knowledge to find parking
Centrally located for what I had traveled to Halifax to do
Very convenient to waterfront.
our Halifax stay
Only negative aspect was The Tempo where we went for bkfst. Service was extremely slow, waited at least 30 min for our order. No explanation or apology.
Very cost effective for downtown Hal8fax...easy walking distance to all amenties in the area. Great onsite restaurant
We try to get to Halifax as much as we can and we always want to stay at the Barrington when possible. Easy to get around, restaurants within walking distance and most importantly, the staff are amazing and go above and beyond.
All of the above
Quiet stay in coreof downtown Halifax. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Great location downtown, parking is a hassle and expensive plus the procedure was not well explained by the desk staff. Really did not need to be downtown since visiting family in Fall River. Booked here because of the price but would have been better off once the cost of parking was factored in to have booked out by Dartmouth Crossing.
The location is very convenient especially to and from the airport and is walkable to most of the points of interest.
No parking at this hotel
This hotel is located right downtown Halifax, in one of the most traffic-congested areas of the city. We drove around the block a few time looking for the parking lot and eventually had to leave the car at a commercial parking lot within walking distance. At the registration desk, I asked where their parking lot was and i was shocked to learn that they don't have one! Guests are expected to park wherever they can at their own expense and carry their luggage from the car to the hotel. The hotel won't even refund the parking fees. I checked the hotels.com website for this hotel and it states "parking available." Available? Way to skirt the issue! I don't know how a hotel can stay in business without giving their guests a place to park; I do know that we will never be back.
The rooms are clean but dated. The fridge was not plugged in. The room was very warm, the AC did not seem to work. We are at Tempo which is on the property. It wasn’t busy yet the service was not great and the food was reasonable priced but average at best.
Location and staff were both excellent.
Paid parking is a bit of a turnoff. If you are staying for a few days it’s 26.00 a day.
Parking is a bit unreasonable, Rooms
Great
Lovely stay other then the heat in the place and lack of air exchange
Your air conditioner was loud, room on other side of our beds, they kept banging on the wall, 2 hrs of it.. parking area is to far away.. No hot tude to relax in. No fridge, no microwave. We wont be coming back.
Great hotel to stay at
Great hotel with a great location. It's an older property but has lots of charm. Our only complaint was that there isn't a microwave in the room.
The perfect spot for a downtown stay in Halifax. The Barrington Hotel is close to the waterfront and all of the amazing restaurants, shops and sights to see along the boardwalk. We had a fabulous stay and would highly recommend it for solo and family stays.
Room is small and 2 double beds instead of queen but the beds were comfortable. No microwave in room but they provided one when asked. The decor is very outdated. The location is very practical since its connected to indoor walkways. However the parking was far and complicated to figure out. I like the security since it is not the safest part of town but security guards are everywhere. The price was very reasonable.
The hotel is a little dated cracks in the baseboards, the worst part is both the bedding on the 2 beds had blood stains on them and we didnt realize it until the next morning.
No free parking, otherwise everything was ok
Good location
Parking is not in the Hôtel premises
Had a great weekend
Parking was difficult to find It was a little bit farther from the hotel building! And also it was supposed to be free but costed 30$!
Clean but very very dated
No free parking, or not validated parking, pool area had hair clumps, no body wash (not a deal breaker) shower curtain had a mysterious brown stain. but otherwise nice
It is accessible for everything Room service slow Water bottle chargeable
Very quiet which was nice , a bit dated but great for the price
Very convenient for dining and shopping but not much parking
Access to parking limited and not inboard
Everything above
Good
Rooms are really dated, price was great!
I enjoy the historic rooms at the Barrington Hotel, comfy beds.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Location great. Very pleased with our room.
Friendly service
Really enjoyed our stay. Beds were very comfortable. Great size tv. Loved the central location . We just parked the car and did all of our adventuring on foot.
Special thanks to Patrick
Wonderful experience here at the Barrington Hotel. Friendly staff and perfect location! We ended up getting in early and they didn’t hesitate to look for a room that was ready for us for an early check in.
Good
Pretty good place. Just wish a free continental breakfast was included. Arking was across the busy street which was not that convenient.
All was ok but at the start of night 10:30 /11:00 someone fell into my door I did not get up but sounded like someone falling into door. That was not great
As a woman travelling alone , I felt extremely safe and comfortable here . The staff are friendly and welcoming. The area is perfect for getting out and walking. Very convenient location , with Scotia Square literally across the street . Tempo restaurant was convenient to grab a coffee , ect. The bed was very comfortable as were the great pillows . Bathroom was great with free amenities included . I will definitely return if back in Halifax and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property.
Great walkways interconnecting various areas was fantastic. Difficulty with parking and major construction in the area
Staff is awesome…😍 save them from competitors
Good location right in the downtown. Room is clear and neat.
Location
Quiet, clean and friendly staff
Great location and enjoyed having skywalks to walk to the casino, parking garage, etc. Walking distance to everything. Gym, sauna and pool a nice addition.
Rooms are a bit dated but clean. Parkade at scotia square makes parking easy without having to walk outside while the construction is happening.
Overnight escape
Great location, very quiet and conveniently located to hfx waterfront. Parking at Scotia Square is not so convenient but we are able to walk. This could be an issue for some.
Parking situation could have been closer, although it was accessible from indoors, just a long walk.
This hotel seemed very out dated. The wall paper was peeling and all the tables had marks all over them
Decent hotel rooms right downtown Halifax. Nothing too fancy, but clean and good value.
Amazing character hotel
For a dated hotel, everything was clean and in good condition! Great price per night. Staff were very friendly, quick and efficient. Biggest con is the parking. Parking in front of the building to check in is tight and limited. Then the parkade is quite a distance away from the hotel itself. If you have heavy luggage or a lot of luggage it is not ideal. Hotel is perfect for a quick over night if you are attending any events in the downtown area.
Right price.
Whenever I have a trip in Halifax I always pick the Barrington Hotel. The staff are always so friendly and helpful. I like how close everything is to the hotel. The pedway is also a great bonus especially for the last trip I had. Didn't even take one step outdoors, between the attatched restaurant and the pedway which was wonderful because of the rainstorm outside! Will definitely be coming back in the future!
We stayed here to attend a show at the casino, the location of the hotel is great with the pedways available, however, the air conditioning in the room did not work and it was a sauna the entire night. We couldn't open the windows and check in took forever. Parking in the parkade is fine if you have a wheelable suitcase, but carrying anything heavy, you have quite the distance to go plus you have to pay your own parking
Check in process was TERRIBLE. Took us 60 minutes to get checked in. We spoke to someone the night before at the front desk and was told we could pay cash upon arrival. The staff said that this has never been a thing ever !!. After going back and forth we final got checked in, and was able to pay in cash. Parking was a bit confusing, as we had to park across the road at scotia square. The most conveint thing was the pathway, liked not having to walk outside. Overall the hotel is self is dated, but clean.
Shampoo and conditioner were empty. a lot of noise in the hallways all day, screaming kids etc while i was trying to nap in afternooon the shower squealed loudly the entire time i used it. it shounded like a banshee no tv access for even localtv was disappointing room decor is very dated
Had troubles with the hotel from the beginning with the staff being less than helpful to deal with a problem, also felt unsafe after us and the room next to us herd what we believe was a domestic violence situation in the room on the other side of us and had to call down to guest services, felt unsafe after knowing that the person in that room most likely knew that it was us who called since they seen the manager speaking to us. Also had the room next to us boasting music and screaming until 4am resulting in us getting no sleep. Was a miserable experience from beginning to end and I have no intentions of booking a room at this hotel again.
Do not stay
The first room that we were given l, was disgusting. It had flys and the walls were dirty. This room stank. We called the desk and they gave us a new room which was cleaner but it still had a musty smell too it. This will be our last time staying here, which is a shame because it’s central to everything downtown Halifax.
Hotel is downtown Halifax The parking is across the street on Scotia center Good walk to it. The rooms were still with older furniture and decorations For a premium hotel In Halifax it needs a good refresh!
Convient to downtown. Friendly staff
Check-in and check-out were seamless, and staff were friendly. The room was clean, but in dire need of updating/renovating. I worked at this property from 1995-1998, and the only thing that has changed is the sink faucets. The furniture and carpets are old and tired looking. This hotel is in a prime location and, with a much-needed facelift, could be among the top 5 hotels downtown.
Okay
Thank you for early check in.
Great stay Dated hotel Walk was long to parking Lovely to have a bar on site
Was okay
Check in was stressful as I thought you could pay room deposit with cash but that had changed since last trip. That would be nice to list on hotel information.
Very nice staff
Perfect for a business trip
Great location. Close to Halifax convention centre. Comfortable bed.
It was not bad.
Beds were really comfy!
Excellent service
Amazing service all around, and loved the pool sauna!
We loved everything
Great location. Friendly staff. Rooms are a bit outdated but no complaints for the price. Only downfall was having to pay for parking but that’s consistent with all downtown hotels
The only reason I go to this hotel is for the location. The hotel itself is old and needs to be updated.
Always a good stay.
Very friendly. Quiet rooms
Good spot close to everything
The property is old. Which is fine, but the walls swem to he very thin compared to newer hotels. I could hear conversations of guests in neighboring rooms. The blackout curtain in my room would not stay closed so I used a hair clip of mine to secure it. Also tried calling housekeeping to replace some coffee cups, and kept being put on hold
Nice hotel, clean, comfortable but the inconvenience of parking option bad. Limited room to pull off on busy downtown street to check in and then have to find parking to walk to hotel, then do it all again when leaving. Ok if you had no luggage or no car! Very stressful. Would not stay here again for that readon.
I always insist on staying here when im here for work. At least 3 years now. I had 3 different reservations in a row. Work, myself, and work again. 9 days in a row. I was double charged once and told it would be refunded in 3 business days. And every new reservation they asked if i could leave another 150 dollars as a deposit for incidentals, even though there was still a deposit from the previous day. Then this morning they decided i owed another $2.12,but couldnt tell me why. Worst stay ive ever had here in over 3 years of comi g here.
