We loved our stay at the Andrews Hotel. We booked a suite, which was lovely and stylishly furnished. It was surprisingly spacious and had storage too. The staff were friendly and helpful, and it's awesome having the italian restaurant in the lobby (with a free happy hour!) Good location for walking and public transport from union square - just avoid walking through the nearby tenderloin district.

This is one of a kind restaurant and I enjoyed my stay! It is quaint. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff friendly and helpful. Public transportation is walkable. The in-house restaurant serves delicious pasta. They serve breakfast in each floor and that definitely brought the hotel to a new level! This hotel definitely has the personal touch!!!

The Andrews Hotel was a central located hotel. Great experience.

Hotel is undergoing room renovations. My friend had an upgraded and renewed room while I did not. My room was adequate, with a comfortable bed (and a tiny screen tv). I would stay again, especially in a renovated room.

Great room rate in a good hotel near union square

Very friendly and helpful front desk service people; nice to have an extra blanket in the closet; everything worked—lamps, switches, hot water, plenty of plugs for electronic devices; even the old- fashioned floor radiator was easy to turn on and heated up the room fast.

The Hotel is a charming turn-of-century building with a restaurant onsite. The front desk staff were super helpful, especially Alex. The room is basic but clean.

We always stay at the Andrews when we visit San Francisco.

Room was not vacuumed, no towels (had to ask), tiny tv, no night tables to put my stuff on, and way over priced. Nevertheless if you don’t mind the feel of a lower class not so tidy room in an old hotel, it was nice. Old architecture has it’s charm although dirty. Very convenient to everything in Union Square and that’s why I stayed there. Staff was courteous and helpful and continental breakfast was a nice touch.

Is a nice place to stay close to the union square

The price, clean, location was perfect. Two blocks from Union Square. Lots of holiday shopping if your into it. Walkable. Lots of food options. Told the quality of the hotel has slipped. Kool elevator. Felt big city safe. Always keep your situational awareness up but we had no issues walking around at night. Some homeless but not an issue. Seemed safe around the hotel. Never rent a car for a visit to the city. Learned that last time. Tough to find parking and no need for a car. Lots of transportation options. BART get you close to the hotel from the airport.

Birthday Weekend

stayed for a friend's birthday party nearby and the room was clean and nice plus the price was reasonable. I enjoyed the staff, wine offering, and free continental breakfast and coffee.

Love the petite suite in this hotel. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Note this is an old hotel with no air conditioning and one small elevator. The attached fine dining Italian restaurant (dinner only), Fino, has great service and the food is fine. For single travelers, any room is fine. For two, I recommend the petite suite. The neighborhood can be noisy at night, bring ear plugs.

Very good hotel with friendly staff

Very nice staff. This hotel has a nice perk—free glass of wine next door in the excellent adjacent restaurant. Hotel is old, but if it were modernized it would cost another $100.00 a night. The reading light above bed was not working but it seems every hotel room Has some light that doesn’t work. I stay here. Whenever I come to San Francisco

We had a lovely stay. We loved the European feel of the hotel. The rooms were small, but very nicely furnished. The staff was so kind and helpful, we were very pleased with our hotel choice. It is within walking distance of Union Square which suited us perfectly. I would recommend this hotel.

A very positive experience. The hotel is full of history and centrally located. Rooms were clean and comfortable. A mini-fridge would have been nice but that’s a minor inconvenience given the amenities in the surrounding area.

Nice little hotel in SF

The staff here are lovely and very helpful. This is an older hotel and the decor is nice, but not fitting with the building. It is a historic type of building with some more modern, ikea style furniture. In other reviews, everyone talks about the bathrooms being small. THis hotel has European size bathrooms, yes small, but totally great hot water flow for the shower. DOn't need a giant bathroom to take a hot shower. COffee is SOOO good.

All good. Would stay again. Front desk staff were great. Arranged early checkin after out long flight from Australia. Much appreciated.

Everything was great

The room was very disappointing! It did not look at all like the photo of the "corner king" on the website. The room had almost no furniture, except, of course, a bed and a desk, not even bedside tables. The photo on Travelocity showed a dresser with table lamps, a desk, a comfortable looking sitting chair, and bedside tables. So disappointing!

Terrible service, terrible hotel, under renovation

(TLDR:stay at the Fitzgerald next door instead) Story time So we walk up to the Andrews, try to open the door, and there’s a note on it that says “door may be locked, ring door bell”. I try the door, it doesn’t move, so I ring the door bell. There’s a man in the lobby who clearly works there, but he ignores me. So I ring again. He ignores me. I ring again, he ignores me. This goes on for a while until he rolls his eyes and sarcastically waves me to come in. Then checks me in with a really bad attitude, like he’s angry at us. Rude but okay I guess? I take the elevator up and the doors open to a man bent over on all fours hammering at the wall. There’s a ladder, cement bags, and wood panels in the hallway. Confused, I walk around the ladder to get to our room. It smells harshly of saw dust and paint. It was clearly just painted, and the construction on the room next to it is affecting the whole floor. I tell the front desk guy this and he refuses to apologize and says I should find a new hotel, instead of trying to find me a new room or comp me. I already paid and checked in, I can’t find a new room now. The next morning I’m awoken to alarms blaring “EVACUATE THE BUILDING FIRE DETECTED”. Of course we get our bags and run out. This is the third hotel we stayed at on this trip, by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. It’s criminal that I had to pay for that. I got the most expensive room in the hotel and was treated like trash because why? Skinny, short hair desk guy

One of the oldies and a goodie. Immaculate, great comfortable king bed, room light and bright, staff amazingly helpful and frei dly, great location, just a short walk to union square, trams

The classic design of the hotel and we were not expecting of the complimentary drink and breakfast. Overall, it feels like you were sent back in time.

I had a reservation that was paid for but when I tried checking in the desk person told me that there was no reservation. I even showed him the itinerary number and confirmation and receipt but he would not let me check in . I then even asked if I can rent any available room and I will pay again for it but he told me no none were available, even though online there were several rooms available. He lied and I still did not get my money back at least .

Be warned that this is not your typical full service American hotel. Ameneties are very limited. No proper common area or lounge. Breakfast is supposedly light pastries and fruit but I never even saw it as they were serving it on some random floor during my stay (not in the "lobby"). Rooms and building are dated and while things mostly seemed clean they also look a little dirty in the way old things just do (a little peeling paint here, a little rust there). Sinks are extremely low for some reason, uncomfortably low. Toilet is nice and modern. Showers don't look the nicest/cleanest but at least the first room I was in had a decent sized shower/tub. But there was an issue with the drain where water would pool up. The first room I was in also had a missing switch on the fan so it couldn't be turned on (there's no AC). They did move me to another room the next day, which has a functioning fan and working shower drain, but the shower was very small (no tub). Price is good, but in the area I think there are better historic hotels even for the same price. Such as the King George. Staff here was nice but due to the condition of the building and the amenities I probably wouldn't stay again.

Old and Funky Cool

Hotel is old, it is cool and funky. The rooms are spacious and clean. If you stay in a room facing post street, it can be quite noisy at night. Definitely worth the value we paid.

The TV reception could use work. Only a few channels, mostly cloudy, no sports.

Bad decision

Very old and not user friendly. Bathroom was the worst ever.

I'm sure fine for some, but not for me

I didn't take the time to read the details about this hotel prior to booking. This is a very dated hotel - there is no AC, the rooms are somewhat dingy (cracked sink, dusty, very small room, bathroom window was falling off its hinges, etc.), the mattress was uncomfortable, and the elevator was (I think) the slowest I've ever experienced (note: the elevator permit that was posted in the elevator expired in 2020 in case management reads this and would like to address that issue). The walls are also super thin and I was awoken early by vacuuming on the floor above me, and every time the housekeepers knocked on a door, I was certain they were knocking on mine so I was continuously woken up. The reception staff were very nice, burt all in all this was simply not my cup of tea.

Lovely historic property and close to Union square.

This was our second stay at this hotel, and therefore our second time eating at Fino for dinner. Both experiences were incredibly enjoyable! The staff were very helpful, the hotel was beautiful, the restaurant was amazing, and it was a very short walk to our concert, too!

Alex, at the front reception, was very helpful in giving some good safety tips for walking around as a female traveller. He also assisted with planning my tourist activities. The external noise level at night was bothersome but being in a hertiage building it may be unavoidable. Excellent restaurant on the premise. Overall, a great place and location for tourists.

I stayed here for nearly 2 weeks. The decor is faded but it fits with the history of the building. The rooms are clean, the bed is comfortable, the shower is hot. The staff have been attentive and pleasant. If you are looking for somewhere to stay that is clean and comfortable but without the flash and expense of new decor and fancy furnishings, I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at The Andrews! It's a beautiful building that feels rich with history, though it's incredibly clean and comfortable. It's in a great central location. We'll definitely be coming back to this affordable, comfortable, charming hotel next time we're in SF.

Favorite little boutique hotel in sf. Great Italian restaurant in the hotel. Jose, the server is the best ever. Getting an upgrade which it needed and it could be a little cleaner. But i love it anyway and always stay there

Very small, but on the edge of some great walking

Pros and cons. Pros: friendly check in staff and would do anything to help Good location - within walking distance to Union Square. Breakfast served on each floor - selection of croissants, fruit, coffee etc. glass of wine complementary each evening from Finos next door - nice touch. Cons: TINY bathroom, you almost have to side step to move from toilet to sink to shower Carpet felt dirty - didn’t look as though it had been hoovered prior to arrival No housekeeping in the 3 nights we were there Bedside light wasn’t working Fan wasn’t working (albeit this was fixed during our stay). Noisy outside with sirens bellowing during the night. The whole property felt quite run down and dated. I suppose you get what you pay for.

This is our 5th time staying at this hotel. It is a very convenient location in San Francisco to get to lots of different theaters, restaurants, bars, etc, but it generally seems a little bit safer and quieter than the heart of the Tenderloin. The hotel has some great history, the rooms all have lots of character, but are very clean and beds are comfy. Staff is excellent - helpful and friendly, all of them, from front desk to housekeeping. There is a free breakfast of good pastries and fruit in the morning, and a very nice restaurant attached - your stay includes a free glass of wine during happy hour.

Whenever I find myself in San Francisco - this is my go to hotel.

Excellent service, hosts were very friendly and I really enjoyed the coffee and bread every morning just down the hallway I recommend and will definitely stay here next time I'm in town

Andrew’s Hotel is a great bargain and staff are pleasant and helpful. It’s great that you get a free glass of wine from the restaurant adjacent if you have a room at Andrews. Fino’s restaurant next door is fabulous, and you also get a continental breakfast as part of your room at Andrews.

Convenient location. Small but quiet,comfortable, and clean room. A more useable desk would have been nice.

We came back for a second time, great location, attached to a restaurant that is excellent. Good coffee and tea selection in the lobby with a small buffet breakfast available on different floors ( we lucked out and had coffee and croissants a stones throw from our room) Would stay again for the central location and closeness to cable car.

We like The Andrews! Their hardworking, courteous and professional staff have never let us down. Treat yourself to a slice of San Francisco history and a truly remarkable stay! I recommend you stay here, you'll be glad you did.

Unique

The hotel is perfectly located for where we wanted to be and go at. The hotel was very unique and definitely a replica of days gone past. It was really a cool place.

The location of the property is excellent and convenient too. Everything was great during our stay, the only challenge was size of the bathroom. It was way too small. Thank you and happy New year.

The frontdesk called me twice to remind me about the checkout time. I checked out at about 11:45am, before the deadline (12pm). The manager at the front desk seems to be unhappy with that. I think she expected me to leave as early as possible, making me feel I was not welcomed to stay there. Very old property, with smell of old houses. Wont suggest this place to anyone. they charged me 13usd/day for service fee, although I did not receive any service.

Clean, comfortable affordable hotel in a central location. If you are looking for all the modern hotel conveniences this is probably not what you want but it is great spot to experience the city. The Italian Restaurant downstairs was awesome! Great food and a nice ambience. Would stay here again!

The Andrews Hotel was a delight to stay in. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room and whole hotel very clean and tidy. Facilities were as stated and all service was with a smile. The hotel location allowed easy access to the city centre and waterfront. Staff provided useful guidance on how to travel around the city and to get to points of interest

Positives : Hotel was super cute and pretty clean, but the rugs in the room were full of dirt, I had allergies during my whole stay. Bathroom was fine and the staff were very nice and helpful. I liked that the hotel was locked whenever there was no staff at the front desk (especially at night), it felt safe. There are lots of restaurants around, as well as bus and subway really close to the hotel. It was easy to go visit around the city from there. Negatives : No vegan options in the breakfast. Location was kind of scary (however as I said the hotel was locked when there was no staff in the front desk). Wifi was pretty weak/slow. All in all I liked my stay and would book again here.

Location is simply excellent. Staff are very friendly. The only issue with this hotel is its condition. Carpet very old with stains on it, curtains too old too.

Excellent, historical gem

Historical, excellent hotel close to business hotspots. Rooms were well-appointed and balanced highlighting the history (ex: four-poster bed, old school elevator with grate door) and modern upgrades. Very comfortable and would stay again... and would also go to Fino again!

The room was very small and the carpets old. Very much like a single room occupancy. The bathroom, too, was very tight. The water pressure was fine, the location good. The walls are thin, but I sleep well in most conditions, so it was fine. The bed was comfortable.

This is a beautiful unique hotel, complete with a small elevator like none I’ve ever been in. We loved the ambiance of the room, the window that can open, and the convenience of great coffee any time of day. The best part was the restaurant, Fino, where the food and the customer service were equally awesome! The harder parts of the stay were not being able to have the car closer to the hotel and the limited parking in front to be able to get checked out after retrieving the car from three blocks away. Also, the bathroom sink was the smallest ever and that made it challenging to use. Still … the charm of the place won us over immediately and we absolutely loved our overnight stay!

Although the building is old, The Andrews offers a good value considering the location and convenience.

As a first timer in San Francisco it’s sad to say that my stay in this hotel was not a good one. I was suppose to stay for two nights ended up leaving the next day renting another room because of the room conditions. There was no AC, the window was opened which had the view of a parking lot. You could hear everything from sirens, people yelling. The ceiling fan looked like it was about to come down, extremely noisy and loose ! Wish my whole $200 could be returned but it’s a lost case.

the WIFI signal should be enhanced

It’s an old building. No air conditioning in the rooms, the beds are very uncomfortable and the rooms are just old. There is an elevator which is old as well, but runs good. We booked a queen room and got a wobbly full size bed. There’s a tv the size of a computer monitor in the rooms. The bathrooms are tiny, even the shower faucet is tiny. The staff was GREAT. The hotel overall was very calm and quiet. Parking sucks in this area, you will be paying for a parking building as well. The location is great, near a lot of places to eat and bars within walking distance. For the price it was good. I would stay here again.

SF visit

Beautiful old style hotel. Room spotlessly clean but stairway skirtings needed a good dust. Fantastic shower, great ceiling fan. Bed very soft, felt like a water bed. Breakfast was croissants and muffins with tea/coffee to take back to your room 😔. So easy to walk to Union Square and the cable cars, but a real homeless problem right throughout SF. Lovely restaurant attached to hotel and hotel guests got a complimentary glass of wine each evening between 5-6.

I was charged $69 as a "service fee" even thought I had fully paid through Expedia prior to arrival On a 5 day stay, the room was untouched by the service staff i.e. bed not made, nothing cleaned, for 2 of those days even though I was out all day. The condition of the interior is filthy, the fan was too noisy to have on during phone calls and the area is such that junkies were urinating outside the front door. Go to a nicer hotel that does not have hidden charges, perhaps a little further out of town
