Attentive and helpful staff; very comfortable bed; Easily walkable to Times Square, Radio City, and broadway shows.
Lovely hotel in ideal position for exploring New York. Very comfortable room. Great cocktail bar and good food. Friendly staff in reception, bar and on the door. Room could have been cleaner. Lot of dust along windows. But that didn’t detract from an excellent stay. We will return!
Great people.
Awesome
Awesome
Awesome hotel but watch the food and drink costs
Service and hotel was excellent. Food and drinks is very overpriced. For example: a breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns and coffee is $55 per person. A bourbon Manhattan is $30. The hotel charges $40 per room per day which you get back in the form of a food and beverage use-it-or-lose-it credit. This encourages you to eat and drink at the hotel and pay the large food prices.
They seamless experience as well as having a intimate well design product
Took advantage of a food and beverage credit on 11/25 and 11/26, the bill on 11/25 was higher by a few dollars vs. what was listed on the menu. When I asked the waiter, he said he could not do anything about it; when we checked out on ~9:30 am on 11/27, the person at the desk said they could not do anything about it; I would need to speak with the manager. The manager came out but walked right past us and was working on the coffee machine (which did not work properly both mornings 11/26 and 11/27), while the desk attendant did nothing, said nothing, making us wait. When I asked why the manager was ignoring us, the attendant was rude, indifferent, and did nothing to help us. We had an appt at 10 am so we left. Small matter but something that should have been resolved easily. It shows how little the Algonquin Hotel staff really cares about their guests, having them come back. or provide positive reviews.
Amazing place, we have stayed here once before two years ago, amazing when pulling up the Bell Man Jimmy remembers us and says welcome home. Always making sure all guests are looked after, thank you Algonquin for another amazing stay !!!
Great location.
Pretty Nice and close to everything
.
What a beautiful hotel! And the room was large for New York hotels. And the staff was lovely and most helpful. The location is perfect! You can walk anywhere, it's close to so many great things and public transportation is right there. I would definitely stay there ago.
The Algonquin was just lovely; the staff were very friendly/welcoming and professional. I loved its proximity to subway lines and travel, the street is relatively quiet and kept neat. The Blue Bar has a lovely menu and makes dinner and drinks super easy at the end of the day. I would definitely stay here again. My only sadness is that I did not cross paths with Hamlet.
Great staff snd very comfortable room. Blue Bar pours a very honest drink. Hotel does not offer room service. Overall, a very nice stay and would certainly stay there again.
Great historical hotel especially if you’re aware of the Algonquin Round Table
Excellent
The hotel was everything I hoped it would be.
The resident cat, Hamlet, is sweet and adorable. The property is showing signs of being run down. A renovation and update to their food & beverage menus would be fantastic to see in the very near future. Tiny bathrooms, for those looking for counterspace or room in the shower this is not possible.
A great historic hotel
Staff was extremely nice and helpful. We arrived late and were accommodated efficiently. Nick at the front desk helped us navigate our plans and was most helpful with suggestions and tips. 5 stars to him! The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are completely renovated and very clean. We ate a breakfast and a dinner at the Round Table Restaurant. Food is delicious. I highly recommend. We will most definitely be coming back. 5 stars!
I was shocked to be told at check in that the hotel took $40 from my credit card which needed to be redeemed by dining in their hotel dining room. I felt violated. Where us my freedom to eat where I choose?
They always take excellent care of me
Had a room whose lock did not work so we had to transfer to another but then they put use back in that room when the lock was fixed. Gave us breakfast credit for inconvenience. Close to Broadway shows.
It was an absolute pleasure to stay at the Algonquin hotel. The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous, the food is excellent (honestly one of the best burgers I’ve ever tasted) and the staff were friendly, courteous And extremely helpful. The manager on duty when I arrived went above and beyond. I will be staying there again!
Old school charm and elegance wraps around you the moment you enter. The full time bartender during the week is as top shelf as the cocktails. Quintessential New York City!
Great location. Quiet room friendly and attentive staff.
Disappointing ruination of a NYC landmark
I am super disappointed with this hotel. It's history and its allure is the reason I stayed here. The fact that I was not informed that the blue room, the bar, and the original restaurant were closed, is unacceptable. The new hotel bar and restaurant is so typical and bland, lacking any character was sad. Both were so brightly lit I certainly would not want to linger. And the fact employees seemed to have no knowledge of its history was shocking. I stayed here in 2014 and it was fantastic . It’s no a corporate shadow of what it used to be. So sad. I will not stay here again, nor will I recommend it to anyone. Talk about ruining a landmark.
Great location, wonderful staff
The lobby was recently renovated which made me sad but at least they left the ceiling and most of the walls.
Lobby and bar have an old time classic ambiance. Room was nice and clean. AC was powerful. The breakfast items are very expensive.
It was a great location, but the bathroom could have been a little cleaner and since its such an old hotel, prepare for a very tiny room. Great staff though!
I’ve been coming to this hotel for over 40 years and I have never seen it this poorly kept or organized or managed
Wonderful friendly staff! Great historic hotel with wonderful first floor dining and cocktail lounge. Clean, comfortable rooms. Close to Times, but not right in the bedlam. Easy walk to subways.
History
This hotel brings with class service to its guest at every turn. Made checking in easy. Great maid services. Fahrstuhl and clean facility.
Incredible views, incredible staff, incredible location
Felt like hotels of old. Love the Vintage vibe
The current management has cheapened everything about this hotel that used to be excellent. It is nowhere near excellent any more. The former decor of exquisite quality has been destroyed with a cheap paint-over; the lobby ambience has been destroyed by a gaudy, noisy bar and ugly light fixtures and ugly furniture; the food is not always fresh, so the quality of food overall is cheap. However, all of the prices are sky-high. I don't mind paying for good quality, but when the quality goes wayyyyy down and the prices go wayyy up, that tells me that I should never stay at this hotel ever again.
One of the few hotels around Times Square these days that actually has an open and staffed bar and dining.
loved lobby area, free excellent coffee, very comfortable bed, very quiet room, great customer service
They had a water emergency, where the water ran out brown for at least 12 hours. I went to check out a day early and they would not refund me for my last night. Poor customer service.
The staff was so friendly and helpful. They really made the hotel cozy and warm.
Nice place for adults
Hotel room was large and comfortable, but apparently lacked rooms with grab bars near toilet. The large room size was great, especially for New York. Hotel conveniently located near theaters and taxis. Food was okay but not great and rather overpriced. Staff was kind and friendly and very efficient and helpful, especially in the restaurant. I would recommend for friends
I was looking forward to a little history by staying at the Algonquin. What I got instead was just plain old. The rooms were painfully small, the furnature early depression, and the bathroom (although upgraded) was the size of a postage stamp.
Restaurant high prices and no alcohol served at lunch
We were very impressed with the excellent service from all the staff! Thank you very much!
The cat is iconic! The history is very interesting!
The hotel is a bit dated; however, it is 100 years old and still in excellent condition, so that's amazing. he rooms are a little small but that doesn't matter if you are going to be out and about. The staff and services were beautiful. The food is expensive; however, you get a $30 voucher each day, which is excellent, and the food drinks were also excellent. We even saw the famous cat; he's just as welcoming and happy as everyone else. I would recommend it and come back. They put a charge/hold on your card and at checkout they deduct from what you purchased in their restaurant downstairs.
We were expecting the “old” Algonquin—the one with the cozy bar and history. The renovation destroyed all that. The hotel lobby/bar area are just like so many other modern hotel entry areas, which we found very disappointing. So there was nothing “wrong,” per se, with the hotel, the experience was not the unique one we were hoping for from an Autograph collection hotel.
We had a wonderful stay at The Algonquin. The hotel is beautiful inside & is located in a great spot in NYC. Everyone on staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful, especially Jennie at the front desk.
Location good otherwise unimpressive.
Hotel adds $30 a day to your bill basically to coerce you to using their Bar/Restaurant which is expensive and limited. Maid forgot to leave us bath towels. Beds are uncomfortable. Space in the bathroom for items that you need is extremely limited. Overall location good, hotel unimpressive.
Never Disappoints
Always enjoy staying at this classy, old style hotel steeped in literary & arts history. A bonus is the traditional “hotel cat” Hamlet who made a few appearances during our stay. Hotel is conveniently located near Theater District, Times Square & Bryant Park. Room was good sized & comfortable in every way.
The staff was great !
The staff was very accommodating
Very nice staff , great location could use some updates.
This might be my go-to hotel for NYC trips. The hotel was comfortable and the staff were fantastic from doormen to desk managers to housekeepers and bartenders. I had a great time and the Blue Bar is the best place to chill in the afternoon or evening and meet both locals and visitors. As a solo traveler I found it very comfortable, safe, and even met a few cool folks when I sat at the bar for a drink. I even got to meet our favorite orange boi, Hamlet - a highlight of the trip. If you're coming from non-city parts of the U.S. you'll think the rooms are small, but I found them bigger than other NYC hotels...which is actually surprising considering the age of this one. The location is fantastic, within walking distance to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, the UN, Bryant Park, shopping on 5th avenue and Central Park. Most of the main subway lines go through Times Square so it's easy to get to anywhere in Manhattan. While centrally located, this particular block of 44th is a bit quieter than places closer to 7th and Broadway. But, again, if you're coming from non-city locales you'll probably find it noisier than you're used to. If you end up with a room facing the street you might need ear plugs or a white noise machine. Things quiet down from about 12 AM - 7 AM, but otherwise it's a pretty steady stream of people yelling, horns honking, and, early morning garbage and delivery trucks. Overall I really enjoyed my business/leisure trip and will be back again.
Great stay. Would return.
A wonderful staff and close to walk to theater, shopping and dining
Small room but that's to be expected in a historic hotel. Perfect location. Food meh tho waiters sweet and efficient. Free expresso machine available 24 hrs a day. Loved Hamlet, the orange tabby cat, that hangs out at reception. He clearly loves it there. Main objections: SLOW to check in/out, and their "destination fee" of $30/day (applied to food/drink IN the hotel) would be considered an illegal "junk fee" in California.
Very nice hotel. It has a great lobby/lounge. The staff was very nice, and especially enjoyed the house cat. Drawbacks - small room and no coffee machine in the room.
Uncomfortable beds, small rooms, unfriendly staff (dining and reception), loud noise from street is easily heard in the room and prevented us from sleeping.
The 121-Year-Old Algonquin Never Gets Old!
The Algonquin is my Go To place for anything Broadway! The storied history, architecture, the room rate value! The basic Queen rooms are a bit small, but for NYC they’re a good size. For changing and sleeping on a weekend stay, they’re fine. For a longer stay, I go with a King room. The bar lounge is wonderful, and if you can, reserve the iconic Roundtable for dinner!
Great Historical Hotel
Overall very good. The rooms were cozy, quiet and comfortable. The staff is courteous, friendly and helpful. The Italian coffee machine near the lobby is available 24/7 and makes great coffee. Since we were in a suite I would have liked a dorm sized refrigerator and glass water glasses. There was only an ice bucket and paper cups.
Staff was super kind, friendly, and helpful. They really care about the hotel and the clients. We were allowed to check into our rooms as soon as we arrived.
Fabulous staff and Hamlet the cat is amazing. We love staying here.
Enjoyed meeting friends in the lobby. Food and service was excellent. Enjoyed schmoozing with Hamlet. The 24 hour coffee and tea bar was nice also the Evian in my room.
The lobby and location are great but our room was small with a broken light and peeling wallpaper in the bathroom. The staff were awesome and helpful. We enjoyed the history of the place.
Room was dingy. A window a/c is 1960’s. No room service a great disappointment. Receptionist was brusque. Still living off the round table but no longer that ambience. We have stayed here several times but without improving the above probably not again.
Wonderful staff
We love it here
We had an excellent stay at The Algonquin Hotel. The location is very convenient for seeing many sights and the staff is friendly.
Hotel was lovely, clean and comfortable. Staff was great too. Location was very convenient and a great breakfast diner was right next door. Things I didn't like were the overpriced drinks at the lobby bar (bartender was great though!) and the very squeaky bed (although it was comfortable). I would stay here again for sure!
Friendly staff, very clean, comfortable, and great location to see shows.
I love the staff
Liked: 1. Staff were extremely friendly, efficient and eager to please. 2. Convenient location. Did not like: 1. The rooms were really small, even by NYC standards. The bathroom in particular was very cramped. 2. Much of the paintwork throughout the hotel was chipped and worn. 3. The recent renovations to the lobby area have eliminated much of charm and history of the hotel, which is arguably the major reason for staying in the Algonquin. 4. The executive cat, "Hamlet", the other major reason for staying at the Algonquin, failed to make an appearance for almost the entirety of our stay. Whether this was due to advancing age or some sort of feline job action, I don't know, but it was very disappointing.
I like the history of the hotel
Staff was fantastic! Patrice at the front desk was Very helpful . It was refreshing to see someone who takes the meaning of service seriously
Great location for dining, theater, subway MOMA. Friendly, helpful staff.
Cozy. Hamlet in the lobby. Friendly faces always.
This is the coziest hotel in NYC. The beds are very comfortable, and our room was very quiet. We couldn’t hear anyone in the halls or next door. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. You couldn’t ask for a better location, and loved the cat, Hamlet, who lives there.
Excellent property with really friendly service. Great location for theater goers
It’s a perfect place to stay in the theater district of New York City. Love the newly renovated bar and atrium. We miss Matilda. You may need to find another sweet, ragdoll to occupy this beautiful property.
Staff couldn’t have been nicer or friendlier. It’s a charming, historic, perfectly located place.
We enjoyed our stay and the friendly service. I was surprised about the $30 daily "destination charge" which I had never before seen. I'm still not clear what service was provided for this charge.
Great location, big room, nightly cleaning service was excellent!
The bathroom was tiny. You could hard turn in the shower and had to fold your legs to fit on the toilet. There were no slippers and only one robe. It was way too expensive for what you got.
The staff and service was impeccable! The vibe was beautiful! We got the suite which was awesome for the extra room. The views were awful but we didn’t mind since we were hardly in our rooms, spending most our time in the gorgeous city. I’d stay again and again! Espresso machine is in the lobby, no coffee machines in the room.

The Algonquin is iconic. The staff are always extremely kind and accomodating. I always have a five star experience when I stay here.
My experience because of the staff was excellent as always. Very friendly, accommodating made me feel like I was at home.
Great location, interesting history of the hotel, beautiful interiors. Staff mostly friendly, but somewhat anononymous. Very expensive drinks in the bar. Breakfast great. My room that was kind of a downgrade due to early check-in was small but nice. Window faced grim air shaft. All in all a comfortable stay.
the staff was friendly, the food in-house was good and reasonable (not cheap but well prepared). It was walking distance from transportation and places we wanted to go.
Overnight stay
Safe, Clean, Smart. Nice. Fun.
It was very clean. Spotless. Well appointed room--which was 'tidy' in size but for an overnight biz trip to NYC the room was great. I've stayed there throughout the years, and have met many of the Algonquin cats--I've never been scratched.
The staff really make this hotel great; did feel a bit dated in the interior, but honestly for a midtown hotel you can't go wrong. I would recommend going with some of the larger rooms as well. The enviroment that the staff creates however makes it a can't miss spot.
We have stayed here many times. The updated lobby and lobby bar are very nice. It’s a great location for Times Square, restaurants and shopping.
It was different
Amazing
Historic Property; Unimpressive Staff/Experience
My wife and daughter have stayed here every year for the past eight years. We decided to take a Christmas trip as a family, and although they felt sentimental about it, I was completely unimpressed. The building is historical, but the staff is indifferent at best, and the experience was completely underwhelming! Way too many better options in town to spend $4-5K for the week. Marriott sees this property as a cash cow and isn't investing in the staff training, visionary GM leadership, or the overall guest experience. No, thanks!
Algonquin Hotel
I have stayed at the hotel multiple times and have always enjoyed my stay! I especially enjoyed my interaction with the house cat, Hamlet VIII. Kudos to my overall experience with the Algonquin Hotel!!! I plan on returning there sometime in the future.

Beautiful historic hotel. Staff were so friendly. Room was well appointed. Every thing within walking distance. Wonderful.
