GOOD- The property is really nice and our room was lovely and spacious with high ceilings. The decor was excellent and very arty. Cleaning service is good, the receptionist recommended some really great places to eat. BAD - However, I bought some trousers that the next day was missing after the cleaners came in to tidy the room. I reported it but the receptionist didn't do anything about it and made it sound like I didn't look properly for it, sounds as if blaming me that I lost an item and didn't try to alleviate the situation or try compensate me. Basically the hotel did nothing about the issue of missing/ stolen item and brushed it off. Also the place has no heating and was super cold in the evenings (winter time) It's a shame that we were happy with the property and really lovely room but felt that the customer service or support was non existent when problems came up. Property is GREAT Customer service / support is BAD. Thanks
It was central to everything
Great hotel. The room was very spacious, modern, and clean. The bed was bigger than expected and lots of closet space. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. During a problem, they happily went full effort to help us. The hotel is located conveniently by a tram stop, a church, and many restaurants. It’s not in a crowded area which is also a plus.
Good location!
Very central, close to plenty of restaurants and attractions. Just be aware it is a city centre hotel so there will be street noise. Very small elevator so may be difficult for wheelchairs or strollers. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Small hotel and not the cleaned as well.
The hotel elevator stops on landings between floors - so to get to our 3rd floor room, we were told to take the elevator to 4th floor which let us out on the staircase landing between the 3rd and 4th floor and lug our luggage down to the 3rd floor. There was also major building construction across the narrow street which stated at 6am. We had to sleep with the window open in out room because it was stuffy. The whole neighborhood is so tightly packed that our street was an echo chamber - hearing people at outdoor cafes having a good time until well past midnight.
The location is prime, right in the heart of Lisbon. The room was beautiful with amazing views however it lacked a coffee maker in the room, more charging ports in the restroom and near the bed and also a proper curtain in the restroom for privacy and bars of soap or shower gel
I’d come back to stay again
Very clean, friendly staff and great area
Excellent location. Within walking distance to main square. Interiors need to be updated- walls in room had significant marks on them which looked quite dirty. The noise levels were not bad. Otherwise- comfortable stay.
Very nice contemporary hipster hotel in the best area. The staff were very very kind, attentive and pleasant.
Stay away!
We were met by a very friendly receptionist, but the experience were unfortunately ruined by the very dirty hotel room. There were poop in the toilet and hair in the bed. The breakfast was terrible and the dishes dirty. Cannot recommend this place to anyone.
Great!
Beautiful, large rooms in a super convenient location to everything. Front desk staff were extremely helpful with local area recommendations.
It’s a great location and service was good but property is in horrible condition. Rooms are tiny not much space for your clothes or luggage. We got room on 5th floor and elevator only goes to 3d floor. View from the room was hanging laundry of other buildings. It smelled like sewage and there are many problems with property
Such a great area for the price. The room is quite spacious, and the shared areas (living room, main dining room) are cute, clean, and homey. The breakfast offered is nutritious and filling. The one complaint I have is the state of the room. There was mold in the shower and behind the bathroom sink, the bathroom floor had a hole in it from water damage, and I don’t think they’ve ever cleaned the carpets or under the bed. However, daily housekeeping provides the essentials: clean towels, clean sheets, and light dusting. Again, the location and staff are great.
Amazing rooms, amazing location, wonderful staff.
Amazing location for a first time visit to Lisbon! Only concern was the early morning start to the construction across the street. It was fine on the weekend but weekdays started before 7am most days.
Location is everything
You get what you pay for with this stay, central location, maybe not the best room. Pros: - Great shower and bathroom. - The front staff was super accommodating for an early check in when our flights got all messed up. Stored our luggage for a long time too. - Suuuuper central location, anything you could need or want to see is nearby. Cons: - Super old room, definitely felt very dark and gloomy. - Not the most comfortable bed. - Small room as a whole.
This is a nice little hotel, located within an easy walk to several places of interest. In fact, it is right near a beautiful church. There are also a TON of dining options nearby, including a supermarket and produce market. The best thing about this hotel is, by far, the employees. They are all spectacularly helpful and were so positive and happy during every single encounter we had with them. They gave us recommendations for places to see, places to eat, which trains and trams were the best for what we wanted, and on and on. It really made the experience in Lisbon that much better. The one thing I didn't particularly care for was the minor repairs that had not been done. I understand this is a 200-year old building, however, broken, rotted wood in the bathroom floor and broken counter area behind the sink are things that can be easily fixed and improve the hotel drastically. The bed was ok, as far as comfort, but the room was quite spacious, which was wonderful. There was a nice set of windows we could open and get some fresh air, there was air conditioning, and a mini fridge in the cabinets. I would certainly recommend this hotel, especially if they perform some minor repairs. The location and the staff make the minor issues seem almost non-existent.
Good location, awful condition and lots of noise due to construction next door
This is an excellent hotel and area to stay if u r visiting Lisbon for fun. Rooms r small, but smartly designed and tasteful . Area is unbeatable and staff is amazing . The only problem is parking in this area, so be prepared to pay 25-45 euros per day if u r w a car . But u do not need a car. Everything is walking distance .
Rooms are too small, hallways are dark. They could not even provide an Iron when asked.
Nice place
Cosy clean and nice hotel staff. Very central
Room 104 has black mold in bathroom. I read prior that showers and sinks filled and didn’t drain but I thought they would have fixed that problem. They didn’t . Everytime I went into room I would get congested and starts sneezing, sore throat and felt sick. At first thought I had a cold but as soon as my friends and zi went walking or out for a tour All symptoms stopped. Their morning breakfast is not good. Coffee is like water. I went next door every morning Green Cafe for cappuccino and breakfast. Their orange juice is the beast as is their coffee. Go there for $14 euros. Better and less ext. To be fair my friends had no issues with their rooms which were superior rooms. Inwould not stay here again
Good location but that was about the only positive. Construction directly across from the hotel started before 630 am and was extremely loud. There was little to no hot water in the shower, best we could get was lukewarm. Advertised there was free coffee and tea in common areas but when asked they said they haven’t had it since Covid and are looking into if they are allowed to (even though the breakfast was fully self serve).
Great location, close to many attractions and restaurants.
The 8 Downtown Suites was a perfect hotel in Lisbon. I was in Lisbon for about three days, and it was in the perfect location to the city center and public transportation. It was also easy to find, with lots of shops and different restaurants nearby and within walking distance to different towns of Lisbon, such as Alfama. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. I was a solo traveler, and the size of the room was perfect.
Helpful and friendly staff. Comfortable rooms. Good breakfast.
Excellent choice for the price including a good breakfast with slot times. Staff were friendly and professional, and the hotel was conveniently located. Walking distance to everything!
Good position to explore Lisbon from. Some noise from trams nearby but not too much. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice room with a very large bed. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room would have been good but were not available. There was reference to coffee machines on each floor but we didn't find any.
The room was very large and spacious. Area was very convenienf, walkable and central. Lots of food options nearby. Only thing was we saw 2 huge cockroaches in our room. Another thing is the construction right next to hotel was very loud and it started early in the morning.
Very close to all that Baixa Chiado / Alfalma has to offer including public transportation accessible. A walker's dream as well! I had a great time!
We stayed for 3 nights in 2 different rooms, first room was better than the last night room. The problem with the second room was the noise and smell. Since the evening started smelling like someone was smoking near the room (could be uo, downstairs or outside) nit sure where the heavy smoke smell was coming from. Also really loud people next door, laughing ans watching tv really loud. Besides this nothing else to remark. First room was great, no noise, no smells. The hotel is located to a walking distance from main attractions and the metro
Excellent property location and friendly helpful staff but the room was not in very good condition with paint flaking off and marks all over walls and shower nearly flooded each morning. Construction over the road was very annoying as the builders started at 6:30am each morning and woke us up with hammer drilling and generally very loud noise.
We had a great stay. The 8 is a 3-minute walk from the Baixa-Chiado Metro station and an easy walk to many attractions. The staff were wonderful, offering suggestions for restaurants and where to get the best Pastel de Nata. We enjoyed the continental breakfast for €10.00 per person. We would definitely stay here again if we visit Lisbon in the future.
Great location a few blocks from Rossio, Santa Justus lift, the Commerce Plaza, the river etc. NOT a very hilly part of town and while hotel is on a street so easy to get to, the entrance is on a pedestrian zone so safe to walk into. Room comfortable but small by American standards- get used to it. Shower plenty big. Old building so i see that folks complained about the floor boards creaking. Again, get used to it. Breakfast had eggs made to order which was unusual and very welcome. Then the usual bread and jam and deli meats and cheese and yogurt selections. Front desk staff very nice and good recommendations and even held my luggage for me!
Was conveniently located to the old town. Big room with all amenities. Staff were excellent - friendly and helpful and always around. Would recommend!
Great little hotel, the rooms are stylish, large and airy, friendly and helpful staff, effective air con (rarely needed even when hot outside). With a few tweaks would be five star (coffee maker in communal areas, some bacon to go with the cooked breakfast, not having to book breakfast time) but overall highly recommended. The location was brilliant, right in the heart of the city. I'd definitely come back.
The staff were exceptionally helpful and kind. They showed us where to visit some highlights of the city on a map and offered great suggestions for nearby dining.
Very nice boutique style hotel right in the heart of Baxia. Staff were very accomodating and helpful. Easy walking to everywhere! Newer windows and the old shutters help with noise reduction from the street at night.....was not a problem.
Great hotel and brilliant location. We stayed on the 5th/ top floor. The room was very spacious and nice. Unfortunately the drains really smelled and there were no windows in the toilet/shower room. There was only 1 small window in the bedroom. I would hate to think what the room would smell like in the summer months. Other than that, it’s as a great stay.
Old school character on the outside and yet modern on the inside.
Lovely central location. Building work outside which was noisy. Everything you need in room.
Very close proximity to the water, great location for food, shopping and sight seeing. The room was very big with a great modern feel. Definitely recommend for your stay.
Overall very satisifying stay and would absolutely recommend for the value. It is right downtown and walkable to many great spots within minutes, staff were friendly and helpful with all my inquiries, there were thick shutters helping to block out light and sound after a long travel day and me needing to recoup and rest. There was construction directly beside the property, but earplugs did the trick and I was not bothered even though I am a very light sleeper. Pillows were perfect, bed was comfortable, mattress on the firm side which I enjoyed. No complaints! Only gave 4 stars because it wasnt anything exceptional, but still a great option for the price and location
We loved the charm of this old hotel and the staff were very friendly and helpful
This is the only hotel you should stay at in the downtown area. It was hard to spot the entrance when we first got here but after 2 mins of walking in the area looking at our gps we found it on the side pedestrian street. The room was amazing! Clean, big, comfortable, nice hot shower, nice toiletries and a fridge in the room. Breakfast is not worth paying the extra money for. There are a couple of brunch places next door and plenty of bakeries open early just a couple streets over. If we come back to Lisbon we are coming back here.
It is close to everything.
The cleaning staff was too loud in the morning. Will never stay here again.
Nice hotel
Bien situé. Personnel accueillant!
Close to all the Old Town Lisbon attractions. Convenient to train stations. 5 min walk. Don’t bring a car here.
Excellent staff.
Great location in relation to site seeing. The night concierge was amazing and so helpful and friendly!
Great position. Safe clean good value
Good hotel
Overall a good hotel. Great location, close to everything. Only stayed for one night before going back home. Big room. Clean but there were marks on the walls. Shower was okay but hard to manipulate. Friendly and helpful front desk. Would stay again due to location and room was comfortable enough.
Our front desk clerk was beyond helpful. He took the time to explain everything and even called cabs for us. I wish I could remember his name because in all my travels he was the only person to ever shake my hand and say good bye.
A very well located hotel with friendly staff. The “cosy”’room was small but comfortable
Very good location. Walkable to all local attractions and a short walk to the train station for trips further afield. Good continental breakfast, with eggs cooked to order. We stayed in a room on the top floor and heard no other guests or street noise.
Perfect location for exploring Lisbon.
A property that was close to everything. The lift to go up to the castle was 20 metres from the door. Plenty of restaurants near by and close to public transport.
Very good location. Room wasn’t overly clean but was perfect for a few nights. Very spacious and big bathroom. Would stay again.
Excellent location in the Baixa, and there was always someone on site to let me in, even when getting back at very late hours
Great service
Elevator only reaches the 4th floor, room was a little dirty, there was mild construction being done…specifically the sound of drilling. My room was 6th floor (top floor) had to carry the luggage up a few flights and the wifi hardly reached all the way up. Not bad, not great, probably better options for the same price if you shop around.
Was a great location for all that we needed! It was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast included was a great perk! I would recommend this boutique hotel.
Friendly check in. Lovely large room on a quiet street in the centre of downtown Lisbon.
Good time
Everything was good
Very good location, easier access. Some of room condition poor, bad smell from shower, fridge doesn't work. Maybe only happened that particular room.
Lovely clean rooms
Lovely clean rooms! We stayed at the 8 for one night on a trip to Lisbon, and it was perfect for what we needed.
Really a great time in Lisbon, the hotel is well placed and the staff was very helpful and friendly. They gave me directions on where to go and recommendations. The room was confortable and very clean. The metro is very close and it is at the door step of Praça do Comércio. I would definitely go back to this hotel.
Location is good, room are big sizes but for second floor elevator you have to go third floor and use stair to come back on second floor.
The staff were super friendly and attentive.
I love the location and staff was awesome!
Great hotel as a base to explore the city. The check in was great with recommendations on where to eat - both were good. The room was clean and comfortable maintaining the character of the building. Breakfast was simple with eggs cooked to order. I will definitely stay again next time I am in Lisbon.
Good location and was comfortable. The room overall was clean, but it seemed more attention to detail was needed for cleaning. Some areas seemed a bit overlooked. Also, this is the first hotel I’ve ever stayed in that provided no facial tissue. An odd and annoying omission during a rainy and cool stay.
Friendly and helpful staff. Great price and breakfast is good enough to start the day.
les corridors ne sont pas bien éclairés, trop étroits , la chambre est bien, très bien situé.
I liked the staff they where very friendly and took the time for giving information. Thank you.
We only stayed at The 8 for a night as we had to come back to Lisbon to catch a flight the next morning, but one night was more than enough! While it was conveniently located, we ended up checking out and heading to the airport earlier than needed as we wanted to get out of the room ASAP. Our room on the 5th floor smelled of sewage, looking back at previous reviews this has been an issue for a few years but is one they haven't bothered to resolve. The towels were stained (one with maybe blood?), the AC broke halfway through the night and then started dripping water which woke us up, the deadbolt on the door didn't work, the mini-fridge didn't work. Oh, and they state in numerous locations that they are not responsible for any theft in the room, which was not super reassuring to see so many times. I've now read multiple reviews of thefts by the cleaners, so it seems they're well aware of this but have no intentions of stopping them or helping to return anything stolen. Was not the best way to end our trip, but if you're fine with all of the above and want a hotel right near the main tourist strips, this might be the spot for you. I'm just grateful we stayed elsewhere for our actual stay in Lisbon.
Lovely staff Had a wonderful stay
Had to walk up two flights of stairs with my luggage to my room. No hallway lights were on 5th floor - carrying luggage 2 flights of stairs in the dark is not accommodating
Great location and staff
All of the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel location is perfect. Walking distance to several restaurants and grocery shop, as well as to public transportation and sightseeings. The only con is that the city trolley (Tran) passes by really close to the hotel and therefore is a little noisy at night. But it’s not a deal breaker. Definitely recommend the hotel and would stay again.
Location was great! Clean and boutique like in design however the noise level from other rooms (above and beside) was the only real concern
The staff was incredibly friendly! The location was amazing, everything was within walking distance. The hotel was perfect for what we needed and more!
Loved our stay — the people made it amazing!
Amazing team of people to help us feel welcome and provide any assistance as needed. Place is clean and beautiful in an amazing location!!
Great Location! Room was awesome. Definitely would stay again
Great staff! Clean and comfortable and the location was perfect!
Breakfast is very expensive for what it is. We skipped one breakfast on our 4 days stay and went to the Café next door and we had really good breakfast and cheaper than this hotel’s brekky. The only thing we really like is the location.
Good property, but very noisy! Walls are thin and the garbage truck is very loud runs at midnight directly next to the hotel
Old building, noisy
The hotel was older and more rickety than we expected from the photos. The elevator stopped between floors, so we always had to use stairs, even after riding the elevator. This was a hassle with 2 large suitcases. The walls were super thin and we could hear every noise inside and outside the building so we did not sleep well.
Great service, stellar location
This is an excellent hotel for one or two nights’ stay, especially for solo travelers or those who don’t mind small rooms. The service and reception were the highlight, along with the location — right in the city center and so close to so many quality places to see, dine and drink.
We enjoyed our stay here. The location is amazing - steps from Rossio Square/Metro/Train station. This can not be beat! Because Lisbon is pretty active until at least 12am. Guests should be aware that you may hear street traffic until then. This would be true for any hotel convenient to the city center. We got to stay on the 4th floor. Hence, for us, it was not too much of an issue. Our room was one that is pictured on Expedia and I must say - it is exactly as shown. It had windows all around. While it was in the city...opening those up to get the sun in the mornings was amazing! You will not be disappointed staying here. I have stayed at several properties throughout Europe at the city centers. This was by far one of the best! And, imho the price point is not bad.
The staff was super helpful and nice and the hotel rooms were also very nice! It’s right downtown and there’s so much to see within walking distance:)
Very friendly staff and the rooms are very clean and tidy in a well located within lisbon
Enjoy Lisbon!
I truly enjoyed my stay. The suite has a great feeling, just like being home. The bed was a truly King size bed. A rarity, because most places that we stayed in Portugal, was mostly a full or twin beds. The room was also spacious, including the bathroom. The Suites are right in the middle of the of Lisbon. There is restaurants right down the block, serving good food. We had dinner several times in different places and it did not disappoint. Also, shopping is only a short walk away. T There is a beautiful Cathedral called San Nicolau just outside the suites, there is worth of a visit. Enjoy Lisbon.
Great location to explore Lisbon
It is in an excellent location to explore Lisbon. It is a few minutes walk to lot of attractions within Lisbon. The room is large and a huge bed. My room faces the main road and can be noisy at night.
+ Excellent localisation + Service is good - No elevator from 3rd floor onwards and hot water issues - Noisy construction work right in front of the hotel
Enjoyable stay
Arrived early and they were able to secure our luggage until checking In time. Offered a WC to freshen up prior roheadinf oit foe rhe day. The room was clean and well maintained. Beds are a little hard for my taste but I am learning that is common throughout Portugal. The host was very helpful providing recomendations based on what we expressed we enjoyed. Easy check in/out. Close to mamy points of interest, walkable and close to Metro.
