Wonderful stay and l loved the early checkin

The ladies on the front desk were really kind and courteous and made us feel really welcome. We had dinner for two nights at the hotel which was a buffet so not ideal but still delicious. There is a heated swimming pool, which was lovely given the weather. The hotel can also arrange for numerous short distance trips, such as ones to Pretoria or Soweto, which is what we did. There is no air-conditioning in the room, but the ventilation through openable windows and ceiling fan was perfectly adequate. Amenities available were shower gel, shampoo, body lotion, hand soap, and air freshener in the bathroom . In addition to the wonderful staff, the gardens of the hotel were beautiful and really added to the ambience of our stay.

A stunning oasis with beautifully laid out gardens and interesting artistic collections incorporated all around the place. Friendly, helpful staff, it was overall a comfortable and welcoming stopover that is conveniently situated near to the airport. They provided a shuttle service and a buffet dinner in the dining area. The pool was delightful and I loved the setting and atmosphere of the entire place. Given another chance I'd stay again in a flash.

A quiet oasis in a busy part of Joburg. Very close to airport and gas station to fuel up that rental vehicle before return. Staff is exceptional—especially Jackie. Full breakfast was excellent. Dinner was also available. A great place to start or end your South African adventure. Highly recommend

Would have loved to stay longer than a few hours overnight. The property grounds look so inviting.

The service was great. Friendly helpful staff. The free airport shuttle was very convenient and the driver was lovely. The pool and outdoor area is also very nice. That’s where the positive feedback ends. None of the reviews seem to mention the diabolical area that the motel is in. It is not safe to leave to premises. That means eating in the motel restaurant which has very limited options and was very average the night we were there (a buffet of about 4x dishes; cold chicken pasta and 3x unrecognisable salads). Our room was small and desperately in need of a makeover. I’d say it is a 2 Star motel.

Airport transfer was easy and convenient, there were lots of places to sit and chill and the included breakfast was great. The buffet dinner options changed nightly - priced from 230-250 Rand for the nights we stayed. The relaxation massage was also reasonably priced at 260 Rand for half hour. A great place to spend a couple of nights before our Kruger safari

This was my first time staying at Sunrock. It will not be my last. It was an amazing guest house. Anytime I'm laying over at JNB, Sunrock will be my goto accomodations

Sunrock Guest house was great for an overnight staff. The staff is friendly and efficient. Only drawback is lack of restaurants in the general area and the fact you should not be walking in the area at night.

This is a lovely property. Extremely clean with a wonderful staff. The property is a gated community and we felt very safe. However the surrounding area was sketchy, especially after dark. Was a great place for an overnight stay and back to the airport for our next flight.

This is an oasis right next to the Airport. We were picked up promptly and given our rooms immediately at 11am. The owners really have done a fantastic job making this property beautiful, clean, very thought out and the staff very welcoming. Our rooms are not posh, but clean and very adequate, nice beds and bedding. Our dinner offered here was very good and reasonably priced. All in all I’d give our stay 4.5/5 definitely would recommend and would come back.

Excellent stay! Beautiful property, great lounge area- the best dinner here that we have had so far- food was fresh, hot and deliscious. Having the fireplaces going made the space very inviting. We would highly recommend staying here. We were overnighting only because we were only in Johannesburg for a layover. Myself and my family wished we could stay longer!

This is a quaint small hotel, with a full Bar, included daily breakfast with a buffet style dinner option. The food was tasty and there was a good variety of veggies, salad & Dessert. Everyone was courteous, smiled and checked on your stay. The convenience of distance and a shuttle from the airport is awesome. Their Harley Davidson themed bar is quaint and cozy with both an outdoor as well as indoor fire to keep you warm. Good variety of beers and liquors are available. I am glad to have chosen this property, I am thankful to the staff for their cordial welcome and I will again stay here during my next trip to South Africa. Well done Sunrock and thank you for your service!!

Excellent services

I loved the quaintness if the place. The food is fantastic. The only problem is in winter, the rooms do not warm up. The room heater projects about a foot only with no way to raise temperature. But there is adequate blankets in the bed.

A lovely place to stay in close proximity to the airport. The free shuttle service was convenient and on time. Our flight left early so the hotel staff accommodated by packing a breakfast for us.

We had a very pleasant, brief stay here. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The property has many wonderful, picture worthy, garden nooks. The dinner and breakfast were delicious. It is like driving into a little oasis near the airport.

I had read really good reviews about this hotel when I booked, and it did not disappoint. They really make real effort to make sure their guests have a pleasant experience. The hotel is very well maintained and puts most big chain hotels to shame with its decorations. Their airport shuttle was easy to use. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was very nice. The food was very good. I would just suggest more vegetarian and vegan options and to have them labeled with ingredients. Highly recommend this hotel!!!

From the pickup at the airport until I was dropped off again the next day, everything was very good. The cleanliness, friendly and helpful staff, amazing breakfast, and the clever and tasteful decorating, all added up to to “5 plus”. It is a definite go-to!

Exceptional place to stay near airport

Amazing place to stay away from the airport! Free shuttle pickup. Very accommodating and also let a friend stay for a few hours as she waited for a flight, plus was more than accommodating of her dietary needs and the chef made sure she had gf/dairy free/vegan options. They have a buffet style dinner each night at 7pm which is excellent and is 250 Rand. Good selection of a main, sides, and salads. Breakfast is included and has a nice selection of made to order eggs, fresh fruit, and all the other usual breakfast foods. Rooms are large and well appointed. I loved the unique art around the property and the staff are wonderful. There’s a small pool, an honour bar, small gym area, pool table, and a lovely dining area. Would definitely recommend to anyone planning an overnight stay in Joburg.

Very close to O. R. Tambo International Airport, and has free shuttle for pick up . The staffs there are very friendly and helpful. Room is clean, Very satisfied with their Breakfast ( included )and dinner ( around US$17/pp ). Will definitely stay at Sunrock again next time when we in Johannesburg

Wow wow wow!

Wow. What a place. Everyone is soo friendly! Our room, number 17, was large with a single bed and a large double bed. The bathroom was very large with a large wet room shower and a long bath … it all looked very new and very clean. Seating was provided outside the room overlooking a quadrangle of grass with more seating. Drinks from the bar and massages in the spa are cheap, compared to the UK. There was a lovely pool, gym, air hockey etc. The free transfers, 10-minutes, to/from the airport used the guesthouse car and was very efficient. This is a fantastic find and would be the only place I would consider if I were to come back to Johannesburg airport.

The services were topnotch. The receptionist were warm and helpful. The chef's breakfast and dinner were delicious for an individual not used to english breakfast.

Just needed the room to freshen up and relax before a evening flight for a few hours. Property looks like a little oasis. Perfect for what we needed it for. Staff was very nice and shuttle to airport was awesome. Took only 5-10 min to get to airport.

It was close to airport and their rides to/from airport were essential for us. We loved the breakfast, gardens, the grounds and staff was friendly. The room was comfortable. Most people like to sleep in very cool air, however I was pretty cold and had to wear extra clothes to bed. We couldn't get the room any warmer. This stay was during winter season. Overall, the brief stay was just fine!

I’ve stayed at sun rock on 3 separate occasions and every visit is like being home away from home.Arthur and Ina and their staff, take great pride and effort into providing a homely style accommodation. From pick up to drop off the service is beyond compare.

I have stayed at this location many times. I enjoy the locally owned lodge type setting vs. "hotel". They are extremely organized with transfers to and from the airport. They look out for your safety. In my case, I arrived late. Arriving as a solo traveler they changed their normal pick up site to to pick me up closer to the main doors. They really look out and accommodate for their clients. I have stayed here.

Fixed menu buffet dinner was offered. At 7pm the soup was finished and not replenished and also some vegetables. The grilled pork chops were hard and dry. The guesthouse was full so quantity of food was badly miscalculated

Fabulous and seamless check-in, overnight accommodation and breakfast to travel refreshed the next day. Second time our family has stayed here, thanks so much!

Hidden gem

A great spot handy to the airport, but if an oasis in a not so great area. Love the common areas - fab design and although a big space with the very welcome fires burning made it quite cosy. Very friendly staff . Rooms themselves basic but comfortable.

Good communication with staff upon arrival in Johannesberg regarding pickup location. Hotel is located very close to JNB, which is why I picked it vs the Mega Hotels acutally on the airport property. Clean, comfortable, staff delightful, rooms very nice, uber or the lodge staff will get you to and from where you want to go. The evening meal is prepared cafeteria style and was tasty both nights we took advantage of it. Ina and the staff are very helpful. Ina went out of her way to assist as with a parking permit we'd indavertantly brought with us from our stay in Cape Town. She handled sending it back to the owners. We walked during the day to a local grocery store to get some road food and felt safe. At night, I would be careful as the area is not well lit, there were no specified cross walks that I could see. I would highly recommend Sunrock as a handy "in and out of Johannesberg airport", or if you were working in the local area.

Great stay and very friendly and accomodating staff. I would have liked a small bar fridge in my room (for my meds). Also i would have liked acess to an ice machine and possibly a AC in the room. Otherwise i really enjoyed sraying there. The property is a real relfectiin of the beauty of SA.

The grounds are beautiful; pool, bar area, seating areas for eating are perfect. Shuttle drivers awesome, staff care about their jobs and take them to heart. Dinner is available..do not miss it..small charge for a wonderful meal..breakfast included..my husband and I felt spoiled!

Absolutely wonderful

The guesthouse is close to the OR tambo airport with shuttle to/from provided. If plane noise is a problem, may not be the best location. The place is gated and security is well maintained. The inside of the grounds are well maintained as well and relaxing. Only stayed one night but would stay again.

Sunrock is like an oasis within the city! Once you get inside the gates the greeness and quietness makes you forget where you are. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and the bed super comfortable. Sunrock is a hidden gem 😊

We stayed one night at Sunrock when our flights out of JNB were canceled. The room was very comfortable and the compound was safe, clean, and nicely landscaped. Loved the bar/restaurant. Too cold for pool, maybe next time. Great hospitality.

Ten all the way!

Loved this place, like garden of Eden with beautiful pool and grounds inside safe compound minutes from the airport, with free shuttle. Want something from the full bar? Pour it yourself honor system, just write down what you took. Good buffet breakfast included, added buffet dinner for less than $10. We stayed in 5 star hotels all over SA and this was our favorite. Two downsides. No air, but fancy ceiling fan kept us cool, some airport noise, but that’s the trade for being close, not a bother to us, give it a TEN.

I booked this hotel based on the recommendation of my bird tour company, Rockjumper Birding. I have no international calling plan (I'm a US citizen) so the hotel told me I could use WhatsApp & the free J'bug airport WiFi to contact them for pick-up. I sent/received a WhatsApp message to make sure it worked before I left the US. When I arrived, I had great difficulty accessing the airport WiFi but finally sent a WhatsApp message to which no one replied. After a 16-hr flight, I was exhausted so it cost me $10 on my AT&T international day pass to call the hotel directly. Even then, it was much longer than the 10 minutes I was told it would be, at least twice that. I finally got to the hotel & was appalled to be given a room right by their noisy, smelly diesel-powered generator! I do not recall any mention of the hotel being on generator power in the description & certainly would not have booked there had I known that. Adding insult to injury, the generator & thus all power was shut off from 12-4am which meant no lights or A/C! Room was small with the constant roar & smell of the generator right outside my door so I couldn't open any windows. Breakfast started late as well. The return to airport shuttle was on time. If I ever fly through J'burg again, I'll stay at one of the airport hotels I can walk to. I can't recommend this hotel even tho the grounds/garden are nice.
