Would stay again.

Second time staying here and was disappointed with certain aspects from the first time. As a former publican I would not employ certain bar staff from this hotel. Ordered a drink at the bar and waited for my drinks then noticed the person who took my order was serving someone else further along the bar, only assume he could not mix the drinks I had asked for and went to serve someone else, very rude. When you are paying top price for drink you expect top service. Apart from this the staff were very good and helpful, especially at reception.

My only disappointment was the service by the staff in the restaurant & bar. I went down to order a coffee and felt ignored. After 3 different staff were involved I finally did get my drink.

This is relatively new hotel so everything still has new feeling. Enjoyed the room, bath room and balcony.

Really friendly staff. Great views. Easy walk to tourist spots.

Hotel has such bad ventilation that you get waken up at 6:15 by kitchen smells, burning your nose. The staff who were on duty couldn't do anything other than 'reporting to manager', and the manager of the day was very rude and unapologic. Stay here at your own risk!

Good hotel but could do better

Lovely hotel in a good location. Food and staff great but for a relatively new hotel would have expected smart TVs, better wifi in rooms and furniture to be available on balconies.

Excellent Kaikoura hot

Great location

We really loved staying here. All the members of staff we spoke with were super friendly, cheerful, and helpful. Great rooms, super comfy beds, and great shower. Very clean and tidy hotel and in a great location. We'll be back next year.

Friendly, efficient, clean.

Arrived early aiming to leave our bags and the room was ready. Friendly helpful staff. Clean, nice room. Perfect. Not related to hotel but town is Uber free so don't rely on one.

Hotel is really nice with an outdoor pool and short walk to restaurants and bars whilst being on the beach.

Amazing property just in front of the beach and a short drive to town center. Beautiful facilities and friendly staff. Would stay here again the next time we visit!

There were stains on one set of sheets and there were dirty cups in the bathroom. We booked for 4 people and only had 2 towels. TV was very confusing to work out and was freezing every 5 min. sorry to moan i just paid a lot of money for the night and you ask for honesty

The hotel was lovely, convenient and comfortable and we had a wonderful Christmas staying in Kaikoura

Pretty new hotel. Very clean and modern. Staff very friendly. Good facilities with small pool (we didn’t use due to rain), small laundry, small gym. Restaurant was good for dinner.

No hand towel hooks or rack in bath. No tub either. Not enough parking in lot. General condition of hotel was excellent and staff friendly.

Pleasant stay

We had a relaxing enjoyable stay and chose the buffet breakfast option when making our booking. Our room had an ocean balcony view, with comfortable furnishings. The buffet breakfast options were great and the staff friendly and very helpful. During our stay, James was particularly helpful when responding to requests including resolving a room WiFi issue for us. A recommended stay in Kaikoura.

The Lady who greeted us was so lovely we’d been travelling for hours and our room was ready so she let us in a little earlier than booked. The view from our room was mountains and ocean, couldn’t ask for more than that. The swimming pool was lovely as were our rooms. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable.

We loved staying at Sudima. The staff were friendly and the pool was great.

Nice, but no room amenities

Well appointment and well kept hotel, we found the check in staff pleasant but rather brisk, we asked for a room with a view (ie: the sea), were told “you’re allocated a side room so you have a view of the mountains” (in reality a road and a car park with mountains in the far far distance. No attempt to accommodate our request whatsoever. She then tried to sell us dinner at the hotel. The room was modern and comfortable, but lacked so much. No coffee maker, no mirror except one in the bathroom, no water (basic), no amenity kits, - just the room with a bed in it, a comfortable bed it must be said. At such a high price for the room, I frankly expected more. We have just arrived at another Sudima hotel which was less than two thirds of the price and has everything the Kaikoura property lacks. In my opinion, unlike the hotel we’re in now, Sudima Kaikoura was not worth the money.

The most comfortable bed and pillows in New Zealand, the staff went above and beyond to make our stay perfect, the hotel is across from the beach and cafe, shops, and everything is set up perfectly for disability access including the pool.

The staff here was amazing. Very attentive and helpful. Highly reccomend!

Nice spacious room and bathroom, comfy beds and pretty good view. Unfortunately we had to experience a fire drill, not too big of a deal though. Shower temperature kept fluctuating, and one of the face towels had makeup on it upon arrival.

A clean,tidy and well presented hotel which is a real asset to Kaikoura. Friendly, efficient and approachable staff.

Great new property with awesome staff and a fantastic restaurant

Amazing location and views to die for. Staff were exceptional. Lighting in room was insufficient, one main light and lights above bed very bright. Needed option for muted lighting, bedside lamps perhaps. I do also find it irritating when I book for three people and the room has not been set up to account for an extra person re: towels etc. shouldn’t have to request extras.

Overall property was probably the best hotel i stayed in new zealand. Staff very friendly and always willing to help.

New hotel

New hotel with modern decor located on the beach with views from the upper floors. Unfortunately the downside to my stay was being allocated a room next to the lifts (noise) despite the hotel being almost empty (winter).

Fantastic hotel - beautiful room with ocean view was quiet and clean, lovely bathroom and spacious. Staff really helpful and kind, great location. Hiku restaurant was delicious too. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Truly incredible hotel with amazing service! Our room was absolutely gorgeous and the view of the ocean, trees and mountains from our room was amazing! Comfortable and clean and just lovely. And we had a fabulous meal at the restaurant, Hiku, last night.

The location of the Sudima is great, amazing views of the water. Facilities beautiful, very clean and tidy. The staff there a fantastic, very friendly and accommodating. The only negative was the room has no windows that opened which for us felt a little claustrophobic, we asked the staff if there was anyway we could change to a different room and they could not be more helpful. Within minutes we had a room with a sliding door onto a balcony which was amazing with beautiful views across the water and a spectacular sunrise. Will 💯 stay again and definitely recommend to anybody

Family trip to Kaikoura

Good clean, new room. Con: buffet breakfast too expensive $35 for adult and $20 per child. Family of four would cost $110 for just a breakfast. Need another mirror and rubbish bin in the room.

Ask for a north-facing room for sun and a view

I absolutely loved my stay at this hotel. The staff provided understated excellence in all aspects of service. The food & bar service was terrific. And the bed was the most comfortable I have experienced in a long time. I loved the use of Te Reo Maori around the hotel for signage. My only suggestion would be to separate the restaurant side off from the bar side of Hiku - as we didn’t want to spend my birthday dinner listening to rugby. And please teach all bar staff to make all the cocktails on your menu. I had wanted to try two, but the staff member didn’t know how to make one of them. I’ll definitely be back - hopefully in summer so I can try the pool.

I liked the hotel was across from the beach, and the beds were comfortable. The room service was terrible, and the windows were completely filthy with hand prints on the inside of the windows. We had to call for ice three times and it still didn’t arrive. Friendly front reception. Room service dinner was okay. Steak was over done.

The food offering is a little limited especially for breakfast where there is no real continental breakfast. That hav8ng been said we made up our own and the chef very promptly delivered it!

The property was very tidy , staff friendly , the room was perfect . Didn't like the breakfast option of $35 . I only wanted some toast with a nice coffee and wasn't prepared to pau this much so went else where to eat for the whole time I stayed.

Great views and really nice staff

We loved staying here whilst visiting Kaikoura for the night. Great location across from the beach, with lovely sea views from the balcony. The inhouse bar and restaurant were terrific also. highly recommend.

The property is clean, tidy and great! Staff are friendly and nice. It’s just opposite the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and the heated pool! The only thing I would say is the edges of the stairs in pool is quite sharp and we did get some small cuts. Otherwise, we love our stay!!

A Mistake Rectified

Adequate room. Bed a little soft for our old backs. Rainfall shower head leaked even when control was turned all the way to wand. Breakfast buffet okay but plentiful; however only limited a la carte order selections were available for the weekend days. What made this a 4 star ecperience was the rectification of a booking error that had only one person per room, when there were two couples. At first, we were told that our chosen breakfast option would only cover one person, even though two couples were allowed to check-in, and the room price with breakfast was the same whether there were one or two occupants (checked on hotel web site for a booking a couple of days later). Management made the right customer service call by allowing breakfast for all four persons.

All staff were extremely helpful. The entire hotel was clean, modern and inviting. The food at the Hiku restaurant was amazing. We were sad to leave.

Location

The hotel is modern and well equipped. The room was large and comfortable. However, the staff person we spoke with was not very knowledgeable or helpful.

Beautiful hotel in an amazing location. My only complaint is there are no bins around the hotel inside or out, as a smoker this was an issue as I had nowhere to put my butts, without walking down the road.

This is probably the best hotel in this area. Do go and leave the hotel and turn right and enjoy the wonderful walks, in our opinion better than the whale watching. Swimming pool is not worth using but the food is good and as I say this is probably the best hotel. Do make sure you check out the Cinema !!

Rooms were new and clean.

A near new property and it shows… lovely modern hotel, modern designed rooms, enough space and great bathroom. A great bar, restaurant area downstairs. Views from most, if not all rooms of the sea. We would definitely stay here again!

AVOID BOOKING THROUGH "LAST MINUTE" - A TRUELY NON PROFESSIONAL AGENT. Booked through agent "Last minute" but made a mistake, tried to correct it minutes later but the agents office was closed over the weekend and the front office at the hotel was not allowed to correct the reservation. Had to make and pay for a new reservation. Front office tried to arrange a refund when the weekend had passed but failed. The agent just sent an AI generated standad nonsense letter.
