The hotel was good, clean, and has a good location and the staff was nice . However, the bathroom facilities could use some improvement to make the stay even better
Nice calm hotel
Overall a good stay.
I loved that there is a bus stop right opposite the hotel, made moving around with transportation easy for me and my friends.
Breakfast is good too. Great value for staying in this hotel.
Decent hotel,spacious room,cleanliness was good,breakfast was fine.
Quiet and good breakfast
Rooms were immaculately clean. Front desk service was pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast was included which was a nice bonus. Walking distance to the train station and the river.
Worried on the way to the room, but acceptable
The room was clean and fine for an overnight stay for my family. Walking to our room, we saw that the carpets in the hallway were filthy and were concerned that the room would be the same. The room was acceptable.
Tbh the hotel was lovely, the staff were super friendly and very nice, my room was next to one of the lifts and it made a really loud, annoying noice every time someone called the lift which was very loud and extremely annoying but other than that it done everything you would expect
Air conditioning was horrendous we both had a bad cough for 2 days afterwards
The Star Hotel had a certain 'twinkle'
I and a friend had an enjoyable 5-night stay. We found all staff (front of house, catering and cleaning) to be friendly and attentive. When i had a little issue with my room, reception had no hesitation in moving me once availability allowed. Was pleased to have both a working safe and fridge in the room along with other comforts you would expect from a good, 3-star hotel. All areas of the hotel were clean and tidy and the breakfast, although possibly a little repetitive, was both abundant and tasty.
Ok in general
The room is corresponding to the photos. It is standard and quite clean and spacious. The breakfast was really poor, it was obvious they tried to make economy on a single things there.
Hotel and room were clean. Location was ok, about 10mins walk to metro and close to the city park. Breakfast was continental so that was ok. Staff helpful and friendly. I'd say overall good for the price.
Location is great, about a 15-20 minute bus ride into the city and popular tourist attractions. Staff were helpful, printed out my boarding pass, and helped with directions. Thats where the pros end. On my booking I asked for 1 double bed, as I was traveling alone. When I checked in, I was given a room with 3 twin beds. When asked to make a change staff said that roooms were full, despite me booking a room with 1 bed. Staff said would have to ask hosekeeping to push twin beds together . Housekeeping did not do that until 2nd night of stay. Still did not sleep in the bed, as huge crack in the middle. Housekeeping is very loud in the mornings, so you ca not sleep in. Hotel. should be ahshamed of breakfast. It is the same food everyday, just 2 options, eggs and sausage, plus whatver bread they have out!! Once I went down 30min before breakfast ended and there was no food, and no one was refilling it. Bathroom is small, no amentities like tea, cofee, or water. I would never stay here again. Okay for one night. But really uncomfotarble, old, and shabby.
Next keleti metro station from this metro its easy to go everywhere There is too so many buses for everywhere
Clean and close to the public transport . Staff were OK
Decent
Decent stay here as part of a stag party. Value for money, comfort is ok but not great, but that was just mainly due to the pillows provided. I’m sure if we complained they’d have given us more but we didn’t want to hassle them as they were really nice, and we were too drunk or sitting on the toilet most of the time to string up a conversation about it. Missed breakfast every morning, so can’t review that, although one of the lads said it was decent. It’s about 4000-5000 HUF for a taxi home from the ruin bars, half that if you want a violent argument with the driver, and times that by about 10 if you’re too drunk to count your own money. The city is generally cheap if you keep your wits about you and don’t ignore your internal warning signs when you’re out and about. The people are friendly, but there are also a lot of groups hanging about here and there looking to rip you off if you’re not careful. Was offered drugs and women nearly every 5 minutes, but lucky for me I decided years ago that both of these do my nut in. Visit Cofea Arabica (turn right out the hotel, second left - 100m on your right). 10 of us hammered pints there for 7 hours and the bill was only £150, and we all agreed the waitress has the best arse within our solar system.
Rooms allocated were below standard however on discussing this with vivienne she very quickly ensured apprpriate room was made available. The lower level of the hotel was very modern and appealing however the carpets upstairs were marked which made them look dirty. Breakfast excellent, just a pity they did not offer dinner or snacks.
Run-down hotel
The hotel is very run down. The carpets are extremely stained and dirty. At the minimum they should replace them. The room was very small for 4 people. We could barely open our bags. It’s ok for a few nights stay for the price, but probably not for longer. Also, every time you leave the hotel you have to leave your key and when you come back you have to wait for then to show up to give you your key back. There isn’t much around the area. Not even restaurants to eat. Wouldn’t stay here again
Nice hotel to stay! Near train station and restaurant.
A/C works
the hotel should be cleaner, lots of hair in the shower. the airconditioning works well. shower was plugged up
Bad maintenance, poor cleanliness, not what I expected
Despite proving that my flight had been cancelled which meant I lost my booking for the night I found it quite unreasonable that they weren’t prepared to change the dates so I could use on my return to Budapest The hotel basically got 55 pound of my money for doing absolutely nothing which I feel it’s completely wrong So for that reason I wouldn’t book or use this hotel again Very very disappointing
Very basic room
Excellent customer service, great breakfast. Room was very basic and cleanliness was very poor
I like the room size which was 2 rooms. I did not like the location. It felt dangerous.
Super gem of a hotel! Would definitely return.
Incredible value for money. Well cleaned rooms with all the necessary amenities. Great staff too (printed off my boarding pass after check out because I lost mine). Breakfast is also outstanding given the cost of the booking - fresh food and a very nice range. Highly recommended!
Small nice and clean hotel. Close to walk to where i need to go.
Great hotel. Nice that it had individual beds for teenagers who don’t always want to share and nice breakfast selection.
Breakfast service was excellent; mattress not so much.
Unpleasant
It was the worst basic breakfast i have see which it was horrible to look at uncooked and unpleasant the room was uncomfortable the male receiption was arrogant at check in payed for parking over charged parking on street no hotel parking it was with regret to stay at this awful hotel
Great hotel.
Great hotel, very close to Keleti Palyuadvar train stn. Excellent staff. Good breakfast.
Worst Hotel we've stayed in! The pictures are so deceiving. The staff were so lovely and helpful and the breakfast was acceptable for a 3stars hotel. But the room was far different from the pictures. The room was poorly furnished and needs lighting, the closet is so small for a triple room (we booked 3 beds room, we got a double bed with a single bed). The wc needs renovation and they don't change the bed sheets daily. On top of all the above, we woke up at 3am in the morning on the sound of the TV in our room that turned on suddenly alone, loudly, we turned it off but it kept on turning on again! and this kept on happening during all our stay. The hotel is close to a main metro station and we didn't have any problem with the public transportation access, but the neighborhood is not friendly at night, we encountered drunk guys on our way back one night and they started shouting suddenly and it was so scary. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone!
Clean, good location, friendly staff, great breakfast, great value.
Nice clean hotel .breakfast was nice and a good variety.hotel staff helpful and friendly. Close to most things .bus in and out of city centre or a 20 min walk
Nice hotel in a good location. The rooms were okay, although you can hear your neighbor breathing. The bathroom was loud and kept making noises.
A worst Trip of Budapest
It was a worst stay ever in my life in Europe. The hotel staff was friendly but the facilities provided by the hotel was not up to the mark. Breakfast was not delighted.
Low Cost Hotel
Perfect for students or travelers, towels were clean but smelt like they had been washed in dirty water, breakfast was spicy sausage, and there were no restaurant facilities at the hotel. The only positive was the staff who were helpful and friendly.
Nice hotel!!
Very nice hotel and room, the receptionist was very kind and helpful!!
Good breakfast, convenient working hours, but in general the room was not very clear, some repair and renovation are required
The location was good just over five minutes from the main railroad station and metro. Very quite area.My room was pretty small. Excellent breakfast but extremely crowded most mormings.
Loved Budapest
We enjoyed the area and the hotel was very comfortable and they were very welcoming. Laszlo in particular looked after us and all the other guests with great care and patience.
The staff at the desk gave extra service. They really went out of their way making phone calls for me just for my purchase of a small souvenir. I cannot say enough about their excellent service
Staff is very helpful
This is a good hotel with friendly staff but the place of hotel is not convenient.
Rapid review
Excellent for the price, room is clean, good wifi connection, good location, satisfactory breakfast buffet. Would recommend for its affordable price. Thank you
Air con was very loud. Breakfast was ok.
Really good value for the money. Room was very small but mattress was very comfy and everything was clean. Breakfast was good for the money paid would rate 5 stars.
Noisy
The sound insulation zero. There is some other company on the first floor, they receive some merchandise between 3 and 4AM, you are unable to sleep. The rooms are extremely small, even in Tokyo I had a bigger room. You have hardly enough space to put in your luggage.
A star place
A nice place to stay. Staff were excellent
It was amazing i like it , i recommend it for any couples would like to visit budapest . Clean , rich breakfast and calm atmosphere.
EBACA. Conference Hotel
This is a great hotel for a meeting and it can accommodate quite a few people comfortably we chose this hotel for our conference presenters because it is within walking distance from McDaniel College, A major train station and transportation hub. It has great restaurants again within walking distance. The hotel has a great breakfast and an ATM machine at the entrance. The staff at the hotel is kind, helpful and ready to assist 24-7' Our group only had an issue with one male employee who seemed more German than Hungarian who was mean and impatient, maybe if you chose this hotel he will no longer be there.
Better alternatives for the price.
Hotel spot is very near to Keyeti Station and that makes it easier to go around Budapest and discover. Hotel is not very good. Staff is ok and helpful at the reception desk. Our bathroom was very old and ugly and not very clean. Rooms need a good facelift as they are horrible. Room carpet was full of stains. Breakfast was not that bad but not good either. Surely there are better alternatives. Room 110
Bad parking in Budapest.
We got a ticket for parking nearby and bringing our luggage inside. Parking was 2 miles away.
Surely won't come back again!
This hotel is old. And most importantly, I have reserved for a "Basic Double or Twin Room", but the staff assigned a "Single Room" with a little single bed to me as I was just 1 person. It is ridiculous! Never go back again! Would rather choose "Hotel Hungaria City Center" near the Budapest East Station instead. They are for similar price.
Room was big enough, buffet in the morning was ok, not bad and not great and it was quiet during the night and day. It was price about right but I would look for another place to stay next time I visit, if nothing is available it would use the place again.
In general a very nice hotel and very good staff. The room was very cold though.
Poor breakfast but great front desk staff
Friendly staff and among them a young guy, very energetic, always ready to help with great English. Breakfast was poor with low-quality material. very convenient if you are visiting Mc-Daniel College.
Budapest starcity hotel
The room is no where near what photos are on profile but location is good to catch the hop on hop off big bus just outside train station on main road no problems
WORTH THINKING ABOUT AS A BUDGET HOTEL
Positioned in a local neighbourhood some distance from the more usual tourist spots but reasonably accessible on foot from Keleti Palyaudvar mainline and Metro stations from which all parts of the city can readily be reached: it is also on a trolley bus route. The staff were most helpful, the continental breakfast was acceptable although the coffee was a little feeble. Rooms were furnished and decorated to a reasonable standard although somewhat tired and in need of a make-over. The en-suite shower rooms were clean but would likewise benefit from a major upgrade. (Mine had no plug for the hand basin – housekeeping reported that this was not unusual, probably why no plug ever arrived). The principal attraction was the price which we could not equal elsewhere in the city. So, it’s good for a few days if you’re travelling on a budget.
Nice location not flooded with tourists
The Hotel was clean with very helpful staff, our room was larger than we expected but the decor was a little dated. The room was very quiet and we seldom heard the traffic or our neighbours. Good variety of choice for breakfast. The area was not flooded with tourist Hotels. City Park was nearby with many local bands to see and a large market and Beer Festival at the weekend. something for everybody. The Metro station was nearby and gave us easy access to the Town centre.
close to subway, many restaurants, groceries store
great location, close to subway, many restaurants, groceries store. the breakfast is good
Great budget hotel
We had a great stay at this hotel and the night staff (Atilla) was super friendly and super helpful. Give the man a raise.
Lovely peaceful friendly hotel
I was looking for somewhere peaceful, quiet and friendly, close to Varosliget Park where I could relax after skating and swimming For me, Star City Hotel 'ticked all the boxes'
Lovely peaceful, quiet and friendly hotel
I came for the ice skating and swimming in Varosliget Park and wanted a quiet, peaceful hotel near to the park to 'chill out'. This hotel was perfect for all of this. Very friendly helpful staff and spotlessly clean.
Good service
We were told that our room was not available at the time we checked in. So the staff ordered another four star hotel with free breakfast and free taxi transfer from the hotel to the replacement hotel for us. We are very satisfied with the replacement hotel, considering the price we paid (which we were not supposed to get a four star hotel).
Nice staff but bad location
Internet was bad i need to go to lobby to get stronger signal. The hotel is located in unsafe area. My backpack was lost during my walk from the Keliti station to the hotel. However staff were excellent. They help print all the lost train & air tickets.
Beside train station
Good location when leaving the country by train, nice clean rooms. It is a shame about the staff. Very poor at the main desk, not polite, no manners, not friendly and not welcoming. Not good enough, made me and my friends feel very unconfortable and unwelcomed. I would get rid them and hire someone who is interested in keeping the hotel afloat. Very poor, shame.
Nice Hotel, but I would not walk back after dark..
Inside of the hotel is a very nice experience. The inside of the hotel and the surrounding areas are not corresponding. The staff was extremely helpful, knowledgeable. I cannot praise enough how good the staff was. Internet access is free in the rooms, that was great. There are small groceries and a bakery is about two blocks away. One grocery is across the street. There are restaurants in the same street, but were not very inviting. Three blocks away there is a very good Chineese restaurant and On Dozsa Gyorgy ut there is a wonderful, authentic Hungarian restaurant. The name is Paprika Vendeglo. Most every good Hungarian food is on the menu. Maps and programs are available at the reception, that was helpful.
20Min walk from Heroes Square
I think this hotel needs more things to improve its décor, the walls in room and corridor are really plain and boring. The Breakfast wasn't much better (I seen the waiter wiping crumbs onto the floor as supposed into his hands. I hate the idea of the bins on the tables as well. The Tv in our room was way to small to watch, we didn't use it in the end (Luckily we had our laptop and ipad).
Basic hotel with no frills
On arrival the reception staff were helpful. The hotel, however, is not well maintained and carpets and fittings in rooms and bathroom were grubby and poorly maintained . Bedding seemed clean. Shower was very basic and no hand soap in bathroom or hairdryer. The front desk let me borrow a hairdryer when I asked about the lack of one in bathroom. Breakfast was minimal. Considering the price charged there are far better hotels in Budapest offering much nicer accommodation and in better locations, if you shop around. We stayed there for one night as part of a group, however, we would not select to stay at this hotel again.
Unpretentious stay for fair price
Carpets has deep dirtyings throughout the hotel including rooms. Old metroline is accessible by trolleybus, new metroline & railway station is accessible on foot. Breakfast has limited variety of components but every food component is present even if you are late for breakfast. Wi-Fi was available about 85% time of stay. Hotel is good for unpretentious stay in Budapest for such money.
Cheap and close to centre
First room # 402 top floor overlooking street had badly stained carpet and smelt of old socks. Also noisy from street if you didn't want to use air con. Nice staff gave me much nicer room overlooking internal courtyard for remaining 3 nights. Carpet was clean and smelt ok too! Good news is hotel plans to replace carpeting with high quality PVC cushioned tiling but will take a year or two.
very nice experience
Everything is good.
Good for a girly get away
Very good hotel for the price. Most staff very good and could be helpful. Rooms very clean with breakfast included in the price. Taxi was needed for some locations and staff always willing to ring for one. Thank you
Close to main train station
We are a family of four and found the hotel to be fine for our needs. It was near tram lines and subway. The breakfast was good but somewhat limited in choice. The room was a little cramped but our children each had their own bed.
Great budget hotel for families
Hotel is OK, though neighbourhood is little bit rough. However, I have seen that police is very vigilant. I shall recommend this hotel for families, as family room is big and breakfast is an added bonus. Staff members are very helpful. Hotel use a taxi company. They are also very good in terms of safety and reliability.
Good Location, friendly and helpful staff
The hotel was a short walk from the Metro with access to all locations of interest. Staff were very helpful in providing service and giving suggestions for dining and other activities. The room was hot at night because once the heat is on, it is on full blast. Temperature could be adjusted by opening windows but that also allowed street noise. Earplugs helped. Carpet was stained but did not appear dirty. Room was very clean overall and linens fresh. Breakfast was very good, typical European fare - great!! Would stay there again if I return to Budapest, perhaps next year.
Staffs are nice and professional. Room is tidy and clean. Bathroom renovation is a bit old. Breakfast is nice.
room comfortable and clean. breakfast fairly poor, needs improving. receptionests very helpful.
I would stay here again.
I enjoyed my stay at the Star City Hotel. It was convenient for my one night stay in Budapest and I felt it was excellent value. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast, though quite basic, was adequate. My room was on the first floor; it was comfortable and clean but a little small. The window overlooked the central courtyard and so it was very quiet in the room. It is easy to get to the centre of Budapest by bus and it is a short walk to the nearest metro stop. I would certainly stay here again if I came back to Budapest.
Very helpful Staff
The hotel was located in a run-down residential area. From the outside, the hotel did not look appealing at all but the lobby was not bad. Carpet in the room was in POOR condition. It was so bad that I did not feel comfortable walking on it without my shoes. They were so kind to include the breakfast with the hotel stay but the breakfast was TERRIBLE. Orange juice tasted like OJ mixed in water. Overall "included breakfast" was worthless. Again, Staff was good. Spoke very well English but I think this hotel can do a whole lot better in terms of cleanliness to attract more customers.
value for money
very friendly and helpful staff. Close to metro line and tram. Clean Room. Very good price.
We enjoyed the hotel staff and the breakfast. The bathroom was a little uncomfortable. The location was pretty close to the Kelli train station and the city park (where szechenyl bath house is).
Not a bad hotel.
IThe location is not very central, however, I was able to walk all over the city from there and just took a cab at night on the way back. The service was good but the room was not the best. My room slept two people and if you can split the cost it would be much better but not the kind of hotel for one person to just relax. Rather, it's more of a place to sleep after touring the city all day.
surprisingly good
the hotel is walking distance from the major attractions the room is big and clean
Hotel Star consistently lives up to its name.
Hotel was welcoming and calmed us down after a tiresome walk brought on by a taxi at Keleti trying to overcharge us - we walked away from the taxi to the hotel which was fairly close by. Bus tickets on sale proved to be a good facility though at one point these ran out. Bar was good value - minibar less so. Breakfasts good quality and varied.
Average Experience
The hotel service was pleasant, although the cab service they called for us cheated us pretty badly and it was a strange situation. The hotel has a bit of a bad smell in the hallways but otherwise it was nice. We had to have the windows open all four days because the room was like a sauna. The bathrooms could use some re-modeling or re-caulking at a minimum. The rooms are much smaller than the photos on this site. I would say they are tiny, we had to move rooms because there wasn't room for two medium suitcases. The breakfast is nice! The neiborhood is sketchy, but Pest is pretty sketchy! Managed to have a blast in Hungary, so the hotel wasn't a bother if you use it to just shower and hit the pillow!
Hotel was comfortable but wifi quality poor
The hotel is not far from keleti train station, which was good. The room was comfortable and clean. The only complain I have is that the wifi was constantly dropping out and was basically unusable. The breakfast was ok.
Star Hotel - punching above its weight.
For its category, the Star Hotel is definitely punching above its weight. Although the rooms can be small and there is not much wasted space, most things you want are there - including a Minibar which I found out., too late, was fully stocked ( the previous two hotels had empty minibars so I got used to the idea of drinking outside ). Breakfast can be busy - let the crush subside and you will be fine. Keleti station is near enough to walk - or call a taxi through the hotel, not on the street if you want to avoid ripoffs. There are plenty of nearby bars, though the barmaids can be a bit racy - one seems to celebrate her birthday every day ( and in another bar the girl seemed anxious to be rid of us so that she could adore her boyfriend ). if you ignore the very nearest restaurant, there are many good restaurants around, The Star can provide you with bus tickets at cost price ( make sure you buy enough ) and its staff are charming and capable.
This hotel’s web rating 3.8 is not reflecting the
This hotel’s web rating 3.8 is not reflecting the reality… I have reserved this hotel for 4 nights and left it after the first one (room 105). I’m sorry to say, but this hotel suffers from the following: 1) Unconvertible beds – very used mattress and hard pillows cased us to wake up with pained neck and hard back. 2) Badly maintained – stains on the carpet floor, molds in the bath room, agley toilets. 3) Unpleasant neighborhood – near the hotel we saw many drunks and homeless people. I’ve could stay the rest of the nights if at least we had a decent night sleep. .. The managers offered us to move to another room; my answer to him was that I presuming they don’t offer two kinds of maintenance standards… Four days before, we stayed at a nearby Baross City hotel also a 3 stars rated hotel and we were very pleased.
Start city hotel
The hotel was very nice. Maybe for someone it's a bit far from the historical city center but as I had a car I didn't feel any inconvenience. Btw, there're lots of parking space around and the streets are very quite. So, you shouldn't worry about your car. The only problem that we had was WiFi network. On third floor I couldn't connect at all.
Great value at great location
This hotel has great location and is an extremely good value if booked on the internet. Much more important is the staff. The staff was awesome in providing information and assistance. I made use of the luggage room to store my luggage while I traveled away for a few days. I also used the hotel's services to reserve shuttle to the airport and other arrangements. Extremely pleased with breakfast buffet.
Cheap and cheerful
Very helpful staff at the front desk. The hotel is in an excellent location for Keleti train station, which we used to travel to the F1 race. Free wi-fi too!
Star City Hotel - nice hotel for a cheap price
I was really happy with the 4 days I spent in this hotel. It was more than worth the price paid. The hotel is clean and comfortable, the staff was always helpful and nice to us. The location is close to the train station so it is easy to get to/from the hotel. Not extremely close to the center though and that makes a little bit harder to go out (and come back) there at nights by public transportation. But a cab is not that expensive in Budapest anyway!
Good stay
Nice place to stay one or two nights. 30 minutes from the downtown area by walk, but you can take a cab or subway which makes the trip in 5-10 minutes. The breakfast is very good, plenty and quality of choices. The reception is very helpful and speak pretty good English. The size of the room is standard, the bed is very comfortable. The price is very reasonable,if you do not mind to walk in the city.
Star City Hotel Budapest
Stayed 3 nights last weekend in April 2011, met my son who is over there for last few months at University. I phoned the hotel on the morning of departure to see if my son could check-in a few hours before I arrived, was told no problem. Reception allowed him to check-in at 1330, I arrived at Keleti station approx 1930 which is a 10 minute walk to the hotel. Reception staff very polite and helpful, breakfast was good.
Star City Hotel in Budapest
Clean, simple tourist economy hotel, way off the beaten path. If you want to be out of the City Center where things are happening, you'll like this place.
Star City Hotel
Excellent location - less than 10 minuts walking distance from Keleti Train Station, and very close to trams, buses etc. Room was very comfortable and very clean. Good selection of fresh food for breakfast.
A good deal
We loved Budapest, the hotel is close enough to the center so that you can walk there and take public transport back. It took us around 30 minutes to walk to the river. It was also very close to Hero's square, the zoo, and the House of Terror Museum. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and the mini bar was reasonably priced. It did not carry red wine, however we were able to purchase some at the bar. Our biggest complaint was that we did not have a double bed, we had two single beds pushed together, or as we like to call it a chastity bed. There are only two double beds in the hotel, and we had tried to book it, but failed. Other than that, the hotel was quiet, clean and cheap. Nothing grand, but it fit out needs completely.
Star City Hotel
We are very familiar with the city, as we both lived there for some time, and this time we just needed a comfortable and cheap place to stay, and not to spend to much time travelling to different sites in the city centre. Moreover, as we travelled by train, the proximity of the hotel to Keleti train station was a big advantage. The hotel is very well connected with all the main sites in the city, as it is located in immediate proximity to two lines of trolleybuses (76 and 70), which can bring you to any point in the centre of Pest in 10-15 min. The rooms are clean, and the breakfasts are, indeed, very good.

Excellent placed hotel, ideally located within walking distance of City Park- which is absolutely stunning. Also a bus stop directly across road from hotel and Keleti rail station within ten minutes, which serves as a perfect transport hub for exploring Budapest and beyond. Hotel staff are incredible! They couldn’t be more helpful and are always willing to answer any questions you might have. Lovely open space on arrival where you can relax and enjoy a coffee. Room was warm and cosy and serves its purpose. Breakfast was outstanding! Pastries, cereal and fresh fruit- also selection of cheese and hams. Great coffee.
