Great location
Very easy check-in and check-out. Breakfast room was simple but adequate. Very convenient location to downtown and Golden Gate Park. Surprisingly quiet in the evening.
Wonderful SF hotel
Wonderful quirky hotel right across from Golden Gate Park. Great staff, very good value, excellent neighborhood next to Cole Valley and Haight Ashbury
Kezar Pub right next door and good beer and food
Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is amazing! Afternoon cookies, wine and breakfast were all very nice additions. Rooms are a bit small and outdated, but comfortable. Room was very clean, but some of the common areas need attention -- upon check-in, there were two stanchions to the left in front of the breakfast room that looked like they hadn't been dusted in years. And, upon exiting the elevator, there was a nasty looking trash bin that needed cleaning (or just replaced from Target for $20!). These were the first impressions, so we didn't have a great feeling checking in. Fortunately, as mentioned, the room was better kept.
Avoid room 102
Freezing cold in our room. Given a tiny space heater. Room faced street over pub. Very loud. Miserable night. Avoid room 102. However, the staff was friendly, breakfast and happy hour were great, nice location and historic feel.
This is a historic property with a lot of character. Within walking distance to beautiful parks and restaurants.
Nice place and nice people. Clean. Breakfast is a plus. Good location for Golden Gate Park, Panhandle, Cole Valley and Richmond. Only issue was our room was next to the Hotel’s red light sign.
On Golden Gate Park, Away from Downtown crowds
Attractive and pleasant historic building near Haight Ashbury. Very friendly and helpful front desk staff. Somewhat limited dining options nearby. Parking is in a paid public lot across the street.
Great location and friendly staff. Room was clean and as described.
Love the location, but the bed was uncomfortable. We didn't get much sleep.
Very nice, quaint, historic building. Beautifully situated across Golden Gate Park. The staff went well out of their way to assure all our needs were met and to recommend points of interest. It will certainly be our choice next time we visit the city.
Walkable to UCSF medical center. Lovely staff. Great complimentary breakfast. Highly recommend.
Lovely
Very quaint and comfortable. Sweet staff and they are very accommodating. The location was also perfect for a short stopover waiting for family.
Wonderfully quaint property on the National Historic Register. Right across the ⁹street from Golden Gate Park, a few blocks from Haight-Ashbury. The staff were terrific. There are nice shops and a Whole Foods nearby, as well as a great little bar (The Kezar Pub). Everything in town is just a Lyft away, which I recommend --parking is tough in SF.
We stayed a few places on our trip to San Francisco and this was one of the favourites. Comfy clean room and good for visiting Haight- Ashbury, Mission and Castro. Enjoyed having the breakfast.
Love this hotel - I stay here regularly when visiting town. Great location across the street from Golden Gate Park. Street parking usually available.
Very nice place)
Front Desk Heroes
My wife suffers from asthma, and the reserved deluxe King room was very dusty. She said she would rather sleep in the car. When I called the front desk, Renauld and Bill put us into a deluxe family sweet, no extra charge. Since we were in SF for my wife's chemo therapy appt, just that very special reaching out to her made her believe God is watching over her through her trials with cancer. You gentlemen were the best! Thank you!!
Great stay
It was perfect.
Everything was wonderful. Great location next to Golden Gate Park and the Haight. Bed was great, too. Even had a wine hour and free New York Times.
Our 3 rd visit. Will be back
Very friendly staff, excellent value and location.
They upgraded me to a suite. It was a delightful and comfortable stay
This was a great place to stay. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom towels were great. The staff were responsive and courteous. It was quiet at night in the hotel. The morning breakfast was varied and very good. I would stay again. I am a solo senior traveler.
Unexpected treasure!
We had an early appointment at UCSF. It was perfect! We were able to Uber from Hotel and back before our late check out. Staff were very informative and friendly! The room was very cute and well decorated. The bed were comfy.
Perfect location!
Beautiful clean old hotel with free breakfast and convenient parking. It looked like they were doing some remodeling though and there was a mini fridge in the hall leading to the fire escape emergency exit next to our room. Room was tidy and cozy but small however this was expected as we got a room not a suite. We went to breakfast a bit later ~9 and they had all the staples(cereal, activia, bagels, sausage links, etc) however there were only a few hard boiled eggs left and they were not restocked even after a few more guests came in after us. I found it funny that they used paper dishes and plastic cutlery because it would seem they would have a lot more time to address the breakfast bar but it was still serviceable. For any drawbacks this hotel might have however it makes up for in charm, style, and location. There is a parking lot right across the street and upper Haight is a block away. All the staff were polite as well! Highly recommend if you plan to be in this part of town.
Great location
What a great find! And all because we wanted a hotel within walking distance of the de Young museum.
older building. clean. great neighborhood. tough to find parking but doable. decent breakfast.
Great location and value.
Great location! Right across the street from Golden Gate Park.
Great location across from Golden Gate Park, comfortable bed, good shower and towels, friendly staff.
I had to cancel my vacation because my mother had a heart attack. All other hotels were understanding and accommodating, except for this hotel. Both I and Expedia customer service staff called this hotel, explaining the situation, but the hotel wouldn't make any exceptions to their strict no-refund rule. Due to their unkindness displayed in a situation like this, I will not stay at this hotel in the future or recommend them to my friends.
Not for us.
The staff was friendly and helpful, the decor was Victorian and the place was clean. The location superb. Where it failed for us was: the bed was old and lumpy, the hot water was lukewarm and the place was incredibly noisy. We were in room 301. Your Mileage way vary.
Friendly staff, breakfast, quaint hotel with a pleasant atmosphere.
We were really charmed by this hotel and the location by Haight Street and Golden Gate Park was great for our needs. It's an older building and the room we were in (and lobby) were both cozy, but the breakfast room and complimentary wine hour were nice benefits. Staff were very nice.
Beautiful stay in a beautiful safe city
The Stanyan Park hotel is a historical monument, right across from Golden Gate Park, a beautiful park. The hotel seems freshly updated and was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was nothing special but was well stocked and organized. Front desk helpful and friendy. We walked over to Golden Gate Park in the evening, and it was quiet but felt very safe, with bikers and joggers keeping us company along JFK Drive. We watched a holiday light show projected onto the Conservatory of Flowers, which will be a special memory, since we are the only ones watching it in a still area of the park! No homeless encampments to be found anywhere nearby. We strolled on Haight Street which was lively and full of shops, few empty storefronts. Lots of unique restaurant choices. The neighborhood is full of gorgeous Victorians. A beautiful stay in a beautiful city
Close to Golden Gate Park. Parking lot across the street. Walkable; great location. Our 2 bedroom suite was very spacious.
Do not recommend
Bed not comfortable. Pillows not comfortable. Lots of street noise. No thermostat in the room
I grew up in Cole Valley and I would pass this hotel all the time when going to Golden Gate Park or to the store. This was the first time inside Stanyan Park Hotel. It’s very quant, staff is friendly, the location is great, easy access to restaurants and public transportation. I would stay here again.
Great accomodations.
Great room, great bathroom, good maid service. Only eggs at breakfast were hard-boiled eggs. Would have preferred scrambled eggs.
Great location for UCSF. All staff was great except for the woman during the day at the front desk. She was not friendly and very rigid about how she could help. All in all a good place.
Loved it
I enjoy staying at this hotel. Location is terrific and every room I’ve had has been comfortable. With so many awesome bakeries in town a better breakfast bar should be feasible.
Sweet Hotel at the Park
Classic San Francisco Hotel in the best possible location... right in front of Golden Gate Park. We love this place and enjoyed the breakfast room each morning. The bed was comfortable and our room was quiet. We will be back.
The website had a deluxe king room listed as quiet & romantic, with a view of Golden Gate Park. We were on the side of Golden Gate, but our room overlooked a skateboard park within Golden Gate Park. It was very loud both night and day, and overnight (weather was warm). We paid extra for a noisy room that was marketed as quiet. We come to San Francisco often, and we usually stay downtown. We expect street noise~~your website led us to believe something that just wasn't true. I would like to hear back from the manager. Thank you.
Victorian vibe; excellent service staff; across from park
Historic hotel
Very spacious two-bedroom suite. More like an apartment, with a living room, a dining room and a full kitchen. Friendly staff and it was across the street from Golden Gate Park.
Our family has been staying here for the last 20 years such a great location, very clean & staff is always friendly and helpful
Cute and charming place! Very friendly and helpful staff. Old school decor and historic photos throughout. It is right across the street from Golden Gate Park which is packed with things to do. Plus right next to Whole Foods, shopping, and restaurants. Breakfast was decent—sausage, hard boiled eggs, bagels/toast/pastries, yogurt, fruits, oats/cereal, etc. They had a daily complementary wine hour which was awesome! 5-6pm Our room was a little on the small side, but clean and comfy. They brought a crib to our room for our baby. The beds were very comfortable. I will say the street can be loud at night, street parking worked out okay (but could have been challenging if we couldn’t find a spot), and there were some sugar ants that made their home in the windowsill and got into our food. Overall, we loved our stay and would stay again!
Pretty building with nice breakfast & wine hour with great location near park. Would stay again.
Only issue with the property was I could hear almost everyone else around the premises. Otherwise it was a nice stay with friendly people at the front desk and no issues whatsoever with the rooms.
The hotel and staff were great! Historic hotel in perfect location and would love to return.
Older but clean and comfortable. No on site parking. Street or a parking lot half a block away.
Awesome location! So close to the rail system
Friendly and profesial ztaff
We had a beautiful time. Very clean and beds were super comfortable staff was very nice and food was great
We really enjoyed our stay here. Our only regret is that our time in San Francisco was extended and the hotel was booked so we had to move.
Old but still good
The suite room was huge with lots of space. The room has an old feeling, generally clean but a few Cobb webs. The location is fantastic though and I would stay there again. Staff were friendly.
Charming historic hotel
Charming historic hotel in excellent condition - got a last minute room at a very good price.
Excellent location near Golden Gat Park
Really cool building but certain elements could be more updated
Stanyan Stay.
Beautiful room with old school style and decor. We simply loved our experience here. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The Stanyan is now our favorite place to stay in San Francisco.
We always stay here when in San Francisco. Although next to the park, it is easy to reach and the public parking at Kezer lot is right across the street!
Awesome Hotel, but…
The hotel, staff and location was perfect for our weekend plans. The reason for a non perfect review. -we came on the hottest weekend of the year and the only way to get any air circulation thru the room was by having the windows open. Unfortunately we had someone close to our room our whole visit there who kept their TV on all night at full volume. Even though we complained the staff was not able to get these people to shut it off. I know the hotel was not at fault for the weather and they cannot pick their guests. But it might not be a bad idea to put ceiling fans in the rooms to help move the air around if a window has to be shut, especially since global warming is real. We would definitely stay again because it was a great hotel and surely you cannot have bad guests like that twice.
Close to Gilden Gate Park.
If you want to experience vintage San Francisco, this is a great place to stay! The amenities were great, breakfast bar in the morning and wine bar in the evening. Great, responsive staff. Would definitely stay here again.
Staff was very nice. Very close to ucsf. We happened to go on the day it was 91 degrees which is very unusual
This place is so charming and friendly. I loved the location. Everything I wanted was within pleasant walking distance.
Great historic stay. Staff and lobby were very welcoming. The courtesy services offered such as evening snack and breakfast are great. Very clean rooms. The only downside to a historic building is no air conditioning or fans. If you are planning a stay during hotter months just know it could be very warm in the rooms.
I had a great experience. The room was a little small but it was comfortable and had everything i needed. I wish there were screens so I could have opened the window but other than that it was all great
Service was excellent
Great historic building, in excellent condition. Breakfast, water, and snacks included. So much character. Reminded me of my grandmother's home. The furnishings were comfortable but matched the style and history of the home..Fireplaces, wing backed chairs, flat screened tvs. Friendly staff at front desk 24/7. Good ideas for food and activities. Right on the hop on hop off tour bus route. Close to haight-ashbury and golden gate park. We had 8 people, 3 generations, 2 suites...everyone loved it, from the 4 year old to the 72 year old. They want to "do it again".
I happened to be there while they had a large sales convention in town and they were so loud until 5am and then started all over at 7am.Its an old building so a lack of insulating protection was not there so Im sure it made everything louder. I felt they should of put me in a different area since i made my reservation many months peior. Also, requested a Handicapped room and even emailed prior to coming..when i got there and IT WAS NOT AVAILABLE!! Byron and the other gentleman were very kind..when the 2 young girls worked the following morning they couldn't care less about being customers friendly. Its acrss from a beautiful park but i was sadly disappointed with my stay
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this historic hotel and would definitely return if we’re in the area again. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room and public spaces were clean, and we were able to leave our luggage for several hours anfter our checkout time in order to explore the Botanical Gardens nearby.
Staff kept our room nice and tidy, bed made when we returned, there was now view from our window except for another bedroom window a couple of feet. Location was good for catching trams etc into the city
Great!
Staff was AMAZING, friendly, resourceful & thoughtful. Literally took care of me…. What an experience & THANK YOU!!
Close to UCSF.
LOVED it!
Small friendly hotel. Nice breakfast and wine service in evening. For me, the only drawback was how well you could hear the voices of the residents in the adjacent buildings (a problem specific to the back corner room)
The location is great - just across from the Golden Gate Park. Keep in mind, there is no air conditioning so windows are open to keep the room cool. It works wonderfully but if you do not enjoy the sounds of the city you might find this frustrating. I loved it. Our room was small but exactly what we needed. We walked, shopped, and ate our way around Haight-Ashbury!
Nice stay
Very comfortable and clean. We enjoyed the perfect location to walk everywhere. Never moved the car
Close to public transportation. Across the street from Golden Gate Park.
Great location
Classic historic hotel. Great staff very responsive. Across the street from park.
This hotel has friendly staff, close to Golden Gate park (across the street). Wine hour every night from 5 to 6. Felt really comfortable in this neighhborhood.
I liked the free breakfast
Awesome hotel in a great location. Walk across the street to Golden Gate Park. Easy quick access to the bridge and the wharf. Plenty of dining on Haight St and a nearby Whole Foods. Will absolutely stay here again when I return.
The staff were friendly and very accommodating. I had to switch rooms, and they were so helpful, courteous and gave me choices. I am so grateful. The hotel has photos of old San Francisco throughout the hotel. It’s located directly across the street from Golden Gate park, which is incredible. Breakfast room was charming with enough selections.
We love staying here for the convenience to our kids, they have a nice complimentary happy hour, and a decent breakfast. But, we wish some upgrades would be made; a ceiling fan, bottled water in the rooms, mini-fridge, & coffee in room. The road noise is an issue, especially when the window needs to be open to cool down the room, but a sound app and ear plugs do the trick.
It was a unique experience I really liked the unique room layout and the comfortable beds
My favorite hotel in San Francisco, stayed there many times. Very pleasant, friendly, convenient. I can often find a parking spot across the street, where parking is free after 6PM.
Well located, clean, convenient
If you are looking for classic, old San Francisco, then this is your hotel! Beautiful Victorian hotel with lots of charm. Rooms are small, as are rooms in most hotels built in the 1800’s. Beds and pillows are very comfortable. I had a room facing the next door building and it was quiet at night. Bathroom was clean with very white towels. Housekeeping provided every day. Breakfast was yummy and plentiful. Wine in the evening was lovely, but no cheese. Staff were efficient, but not super friendly. All in all, I would stay here again.
The rooms were clean and cozy but a little small but we managed for 1 night . Nice breakfast and staff. Location was great!

Disappointed. Very shabby and badly in need of refurbishment. Good location though if you have business in golden gate park
