Staff was very friendly
Would stay there again
good value for the price. The other hotel in town would have been another $50 for the night. I arrived at 6pm and left at 5:30am so the basics was all that was required.
Liked water and amenities in walking distance
Loved it. Gus's pub has simple pub food, big portions. Staff is super nice.
Very quiet, clean , restaurant near by recommended stay
Good for the $
Reasonable pice.
Please in the winter months don’t turn the thermostats all the way down ! It was completely off when I arrived and I understand wanting to save money but it takes soooo long to warm the room up again and it is chilly :-(
Room smelled musty and was cold
There was an obvious leak from the toilet that wasn’t cleaned properly. Rust around the bathtub. Broken sink. Directions not clear.
Great staff and managers
Great view and close to amenities. Shower had mold due to poor fiberglass wall install
My room was okay. We had to check in at the pub. They didn’t seem to have much idea what they were supposed to do. Not sure I’d stay here again.
Very convenient to the ferry. No breakfast available here or anywhere else it seems.
Quiet and clean. Enjoyed the little cafe next door.
Wonderful time, beautiful people very friendly
Great view of the Harbour
We stayed during the Music Fest and found the area close enough to walk back and forth and to other amenities, and quiet enough to get a decent sleep. The coffee shop starts up early and was a bit clangy in the morning.
The restaurant was loud downstairs but only until 8:30 ish. Other than that bedroom was dark, big bathtub, clean! Not enough coffee supplies (sugar, coffee mate) but still amazing room!
It was a very odd stay. Check in isn't at the main Sportsman's Inn building, it's at the bar of the restaurant next door. I had no interaction with actual accommodation staff, just a lady behind the bar who had me sign a paper and gave me my room key. The key went in a lockbox when I left in the morning. My room wasn't in in the main building, it was in the white building behind Mugs coffee shop. I don't think any of the photos from the website are from this building - or at least of the room I was in. There was so much damage that I took photos in case they tried to claim it was me. Gouges on the walls, stained carpet, a visibly janky dresser drawer. There was a fair amount of mildew around the windows, which I assume is why the heat was cranked. The room setup was weird too - the bed faced the door and the TV was between the bed and the bathroom, with a chair in the corner that didn't really face the TV. The noise transfer from the upstairs suite was ... a lot/ Super creaky floors and I could hear them talking. Thankfully I sleep with earplugs. If booking at the Sportsman I'd ask to stay in the other building as it looked newer. I stayed my second night at the Black Bear Lodge. It was double the price but a lot cleaner and nicer - and had a generator so there was power while the rest of Port McNeill, aside from the IGA, was down. Definitely get what you pay for!
Reasonably priced and clean.
Stayed 2nights liked the room, clean, cozy, and comfortable bed. Nice veiw of the marina and sea wall walk across the street😁 only downside is you can hear footsteps from above. Ask for an upstsirs unit and you will have no complaints.
Beds were great, check-in at the pub next door was easy and staff were great. The location is right across from ferries to Alert Bay and Sointula. The downsides: bathroom smelled musty but was otherwise clean. Not much curb appeal.
The hairdryer and the bathroom fan didnt work. The location was perfect for us, veey walkable. Gus' Pub next door was great for dinner and Mugs 2.0 coffee shop was great for morning coffee and breakfast stuff. Best Cinnamon Bun Ever. Would stay here again.
We liked the closeness to town. Check in at the pub next door was fine, and the people were very nice. Unfortunately, the mattress in one bed was very worn out and uncomfortable. There were items left under the bed from previous guests that were gross. The room was listed as "marina view," but since it was on the ground floor, the parked cars mostly blocked it. The price for the room was high for what was given.
Nice place to stay at Port McNeil
Close to everything and still very quiet. Very affordable
Check-in is at the pub across the driveway. It took 15 minutes for someone to assist me due to the staff busy with pub customers. Room was missing a kettle to make tea that was offered. No air conditioning or fans and it was extremely warm in the room even though it was in the mid-teens outside. 2nd night had to leave the door open for 1 hour to cool off the room. Room was clean and comfortable. Great view of the harbour from the common balcony.
Good
Super confusing check in. I know it says check in at the pub next door, but we assumed Sportmans Steakhouse, not Gus’ Bar & Grill? Also didn’t know half the motel had a different name, (McNeill’s) so that added to our confusion. Check in staff was friendly. Room is meh. Clean bedding and overall clean room, but very musty smelling and soooo hot with not even a fan provided, so sleep was poor due to that.
A great location.
Other than the noise from the squiky floor upstair & the lack of insulation between room is was ok
Excellent location. Very clean and larger rooms.
For the price of the room, it was below expectations. Unclean carpet, broken toilet paper holder, toilet ran after flushing, poor sound insulation from above, many signs of wear on furniture and walls. Could really use some paint and newer stuff to clean and brighten it up.
couldnt find it and slept somewhere else
It’s not called the Sportsman now, which is a little confusing. McNeil hotel it says on the sign
Central location to the ferry, grocery, restaurants, coffee, and most other stores. Comfortable bed, inviting and spacious room.
Room was clean. Had a little musty smell when we first arrived but we got used to it. Staff were very friendly. Food was good from Gus’s bar. Other bar close by was noisy till about 9:pm. Try not to get the ground floor. You hear every foot step from the guests upstairs.
Close to the ocean and great restaurant below it.
Check in at bar next door. Room 7 has very loud kitchen fan whenever kitchen is open. Don' stay in that room!
Beautifully situated at the Port McNeill harbour with a great view. Walking distance to most amenities and quiet.
No one around for check in or out on property. Had to go to the bar next door. Room was good.
Ugly cheap building way overpriced for what is is
We stayed in #3 with 2 Qu beds and it was modern, very clean and convenient to a couple decent restaurants and steps away from a great coffee shop. We were there for a week long kayak trip. We could park our car loaded with gear just outside our door. We thought it could be noisy but it wasn’t. Would stay there again.
It was a pleasant stay
Property delivered as expected
I looked the property up on Expedia. The instructions said to check in at Gus’s pub. A blonde server helped us and was very rude. When asking if she had a room available she made a point to make us feel like a hassle. She called her boss then entered an amount on the handheld machine that was around $35 over the online price. She seemed like she was pressuring me to pay without any paperwork. When questioned she said it was all she had, so I proceeded to book online (which showed a few rooms available). The interaction made me feel very uncomfortable, after doing the exact math I figured out that she hit the Tip option on the machine before she tried to give it to me. She left and came back then changed her attitude after I told her I booked online. I had booked the room for Sportsman’s Inn and was placed in a completely different property called the McNeill’s Inn. I did not want to go back into the pub and have another interaction with that rude woman. The room was fine nothing special and I did not feel safe. The curtains had burn marks on the bottoms that were safety pinned to hold them off the heater. Save your money.
It faces the water and there's a shore walking area past the large marina.. Also a coffee shop right next door, so convenient. Great place for a one night stopover.
Close to ferry terminal, but difficult to check in.
Clean and quiet
Easy check in and check out
Close to the ferry, nice renovated room
It was a little weird to check in at the pub, but they were very fast, efficient and friendly. Very clean. Would definitely stay there again!
They promised to leave a key out for me. They did not do so, and on my arrival, the office was closed. I had to find another accommodation. I'd like my money back. Al
A good spot to stop for the night if you are just passing through. If you are spending a couple of days then i would stay down by the harbor where there is a lot more going on. Unfortunately the pool was closed when we stayed at the Sportsmans and when we webt to check in a bit early, we were told to come back at 3 PM, seemed a bit weird as the parking lot was empty and i would assume they would have had at least one room cleaned and ready.
I tidy spot near the ferry with great views!
The property is dated, exterior is dirty, furniture is damaged
I really appreciated the easy check in, clean room and great place to take my dog for a walk across the street when arriving late off the Rupert-Hardy ferry
The property is close to the waterfront, so convenient for water-based activities. Keys are picked up from a nearby bar so no staff anywhere to be seen. The room itself is up a long flight of stairs. Carpet in small living area was quite dirty. Blind on the only window was broken and wouldn’t close, so no privacy. Window didn’t open and the room was uncomfortably hot. Small fridge, freezer door wouldn’t close because of excess frost. Smoking area right outside our room. Fan in closet wasn’t enough to make the room comfortable.
There is NO AC in the room!
There is NO A/C. Our stay was in July. It was a hot and muggy day. It was quite uncomfortable. The room has two double beds in the back and sofa/queen bed In the front room. But the only provided one fan. Which would make the person staying in the front room incredibly hot and miserable. It was able to drive to a local store and buy a fan. Hotels.com needs to make some clear way that hotels can acknowledge that they don't have AC The cost of this unit is not justifiable for a room without air conditioning or even a fan for the front area. It was clean. The beds were comfortable. But I will not be staying here again!
Quaint little motel but no air conditioning. Beautiful view of the harbour and close to Gus’s
It was difficult to figure out where the office was. Then they put us in a different lodge. Once we got settled, things improved. All was good except our middle of three nights: loud nose from Gus’ bar and noise from the people above us until midnight… other than that, our stay was fine. The unit was spacious and comfortable. Handy to the ferry and restaurants.
Was good just minor things tv in bed room didn't have sound, remote volume didn't work, no windows that were able to open to get some fresh air so room was very hot, patio furniture was rusting pretty bad, other then that the room was comfortable staff was kind and helpful. The location is amazing!
Clean quiet accommodations. Good food at the Gus’s bar
Bed was horrible
Best price and clean. I love it.
I know its in a rainy climate but it smelled musty. Possibly the door seal is in need of replacing as the doors face the water. other than that it was great.
Our room had a great view for sunset and was close to the harbour where we saw a bunch of eagles. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.
Couldn't get TV to work; no lamps in sofa bed area, no glasses or wine glasses (only mugs & plastic cups); fitted sheet needs replacing, rusty outside furniture; blind was difficult to lower; no window to open for ventilation. Bathroom was good, and bedroom was good.
I’m not sure if this was our best choice…
It was a nice staycation R&R
You have a great looking area the inn is older but there’s no issues with room and it’s clean and comfy.
We arrived late on the ferry, to find the hotel doesn’t do after hours check in. So my kids and I were left to sleep in the car. Very upsetting and I have been unable to get my money back. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
It was clean and what a beautiful view of the Marina.
I booked my stay at the Sportsman’s Inn. Apparently the company owns The Sportsman’s Inn, a restaurant, and “The McNeill’s Inn”, all within a few 100 meters of each other. What they don’t tell you when you book through expedia.ca is that they put in the MacNeilI’s Inn which is semi rundown. Our shower faucet handle was missing. The bathroom stank. The sink kept filling up with water and wouldn’t drain properly. The furniture was in disrepair. They never answered their phone and when we left a message, they never called back. When we inquired about that, they actually told us that they don’t listen to their messages or return calls!!!! They Don’t have a front desk or reception. They only have a bar as reception and if it’s busy, it’s very difficult to get Assistance. I would never stay here again.
The room was ready for me with short notice, all of the quick amenities were available and clean. The pub kitchen is open late and is good food! The staff that helped me get set up and checked in were very accommodating and easy to talk to. Very down to earth, easy going, helpful crew
Just where is the Inn?
Labelled as Sportsman's Inn, the check-in was actually at the next door pub, and the room itself was in a third building! A little confusing... Room was fine - facing on to the marina, which was nice. Noisy neighbours when I needed an early bedtime for an early departure - I don't think it was so much that they were actually noisy, as that the soundproofing was not good.
it was OK
One of two mattresses needed replacing. Edges sank.
Was a very convenient place to stay.
Only problem was checking in at the bar/pub. No one to answer any questions without going into a bar/pub. And when bar/pub was closed????? Who do you go to for help??? Also bar/pub had external speakers playing music which ruined the lovely view outside our room so you didn’t want to sit outside your room. Also we were put in a different building than advertised. Otherwise room was good.
Barely cleaned didn’t put coffee there for me left one day early
There was something slapping against the building in the wind that was loud, and being near the stairs was loud but otherwise great room!
Great location
Some Furniture in very bad shape
Would stay again.
The check in was a little unorthodox, the check in was at Bar & Grill across a parking lot from the building. The layout of the rooms was unique, but clean (other than the bathroom fan which was dusty). Had microwave, coffee maker, cups and coffee, two tvs and a clean, comfortable bed.
It was a perfect family getaway
Closed for season look/feel
Disaster. No staff. Closed for season look. Address is incorrect. Check in times not honored. Dont answer phone. Note refers to go next door for service, but thats closed too. Tried to bill me as a no-show as they closed 2 hours early and didnt answer phone
Reasonably priced and near the harbor.
Simple accomodation. Close to water. Comfortable bed. Very reasonably priced
Coffee pot was not washed. Untidied piles of recycling under stairs up to room.
It was adequate. House keeping staff were wonderful, check in smooth. Dirty shower curtain, no handle on shower, but worked. Toilet rocked on floor, coffee cup handle was broken. But dehumidifier was very helpful, and bed clean and comfortable. It was fine.
Very clean and comfortable room, staff was great. All in all what a wonderful stay
Old second floor unit in a rundown location at the harbour. Left after one night’s night.
Only thing we didn’t like was the coffee machine was full of coffee grounds from previous occupants and the bed was a bit lumpy..
Great view..
Super noisy people upstairs, no handle on bathtub faucet. Housekeeper is great!
Was a good quick and easy stay

Bar close by I liked. But I didn't like that their was no breakfast included.
