It was near some places to eat but besides that lots of homeless and tweakers near by i didn’t like that the bathroom door didn’t close completely nor did i like the shower not having a closing door very small rooms and the bed was very loud no where to put clothes and wish they had a mini fridge
Staff was amazing however the room was super small barely any walking room.
AMAZING property, we loved every moment of it. There was nothing we could complain about. The only thing we thought we’d mention, was the water from the shower at time leaked to the living room if we took back to back showers. Besides that, everything was great.
Great stay!
Items in the common area were well organized and convenient!
No
Hospitallity
It was a good experience.
Noisy and old apartment just make hotel. No separate shower, shower water make whole bathrooms. Totally uncomfortable.
Forced adoption of technology grrr
The hotel was great. Self check in was great with keypads. However! In order to get the codes for the doors you’re forced to register an account with Sonder and log in with ridiculous password requirements that I’ll never ever remember in order to get to codes for the doors. For anyone who despises and resents never-ending forced adoption of apps/website registration like I do, maybe pick a regular hotel.
Room was clean and big. My room was next to a busy street and it was very difficult for to sleep because of cars noise. I felt unsafe because of homeless people that was just next front entrance day and night.
Parking the only issue and got a parking ticket aswell with money in the meter 😔
This hotel will be my go-to in San Diego—excellent value for the location. The staff was friendly, and it was convenient being near Orange Theory for a good workout. The room was small but comfortable, and perfect for our stay, especially after a night out in the Gaslamp Area.
Beautiful and safe!
Nice place
quick comfort <3
actually super cute modern style hotel in the center of san diego! if you’re looking to stay somewhere fairly priced, especially for an event (concert for ex) everything’s pretty much in walking distance or cheap ubers! It is small so definitely something for couples or if you’re going alone for business or self-discovery! I would say the only downside is being next to busy streets so traffic can get loud but if you’re a deep sleeper, like me, it won’t bother you (they also supply white a noise machine and ear plugs to help!)
The property is well managed and it looks great, my only issue was the room was a lot smaller than it looks in the online photos. No chairs in the room either
The ac smelled funny and it smelled like urine outside. Nice building and room but just needs some more attention and people might help.
Hotel was really cozy and nice. It is on the smaller side, and not very spacious. Really recommend this hotel!
Perfect location and lovely staff! Room was fine and bathroom was beautiful updated! Will definitely stay again!
Great place but the neighborhood went down hill!
If you stay here ask for a room away from the road or don’t stay here at all. The room I had was too loud to sleep in due to being right by a noisy intersection, even with earplugs and sound machine. With $200 Bose active noise cancellation on top of the other two, I could sleep but they’re not the most comfortable.
Amazing hotel with lovely staff and beautiful rooms right in the centre of town!
5 minute walk to Petco park. 7 minute walk to Gaslamp. So much more!!!!! Train was 6 minutes away. Everything was super close!!!!!
Spent 1 night to attend a concert at Petco Park, convenient, close enough to walk. The property was neat and clean, staff was friendly and welcoming. We parked a few blocks away in a secured lot, $12.00 for 24 hours worked for us., The room we rented was very small but the price, location and super comfortable bed made for a great stay.. we would definitely stay again!
Suggested Addition of Drinking Water
The room was clean and well maintained. I would suggest that provisions are made for bottled water to be included in the room cost and some kind of cup. The absence of either made me lean over the sink and drink from the tap.
Quite comfy and close to a local speakeasy. Would definitely stay again.
Very clean and quiet. The balcony is adorable. Walking distance to everything.
Very good
The building and rooms are very nicely decorated and clean, the neighborhood is a little sketchy at night
Room was so small
Very cute and cozy hotel. Great area just a few minutes Uber to little Italy and gas lamp. Room was small but good enough size and nice design specially the bathroom, bed was comfortable. There’s a coffee machine and microwave in the lobby which was great. My stay was super quiet which was perfect for me.
Property was like staying at a train station. Loud and busy
Great location!
Great location! And cozy rooms. Thank you! Excellent for a great weekend stay!
Nice spot for weekend trip
Came for Comic Con weekend, location was a bit off the main strip and not the best area, but still walking distance from the convention center and Gaslamp area. I was hesitant because it isn't staffed like typical hotels and we just got the code for the building and room but we had no trouble, towels and extras were available in the hallways and you could reach someone via phone if needed. Our room was one of the larger ones on the first floor. Was a bit noisy at night as we were right on the street but not terrible. The biggest thing was the bathroom shower, there was no curtain or lip so the whole bathroom tended to flood while showering and our AC unit started dripping the last night but we were able to get ahold of someone via phone. We paid for parking in a garage down the road and took an Uber to the hotel to bring our stuff there as there's no onsite parking. Other than that it was a nice little spot with a cute entryway and an elegant moody vibe. Would stay there again.
They cancelled our reservation as we were checking in at 10pm and left us stranded with no hotel.
Good service
This was a cute lil place, everything was digital there was no 24 hour staff but there was a number to call and they were very helpful. There’s a code needed to get in the building and a code to get in your actual room. The room was small but beautiful, lots of sun light and old style fixtures in there but very nice. AC was leaking from condensation of the cold air and main light need to be changed, but other then tht great stay, very private. Felt like a tiny apartment room.
A
They provided lots of thoughtful things like a white noise machine. Love the rustic touch to the interior especially the shower. Parking was easy as some street parking was available, I imagine this might not be the case so plan accordingly.
Room 103
Great stay overall, I love Sonder Hotels but room 103 in the San Diego location faces the street so there was alot of noise from cars and people walking by, hard to get a good nights rest.
Pleasant surprise for a quick overnight in San Diego.
My favorite place to stay downtown. Staff is amazing, rooms are cute and always extremely clean.
It's okay...
I enjoyed the ambience of this location. However, the pipes from the shower or sink made a loud noise i was not sure which one it was. We couldn't really sleep because of the noise. I tried to tighten the nob but nothing worked. Other than that the location and staff were excellent. Would i stay here again yes if i had another room with better plumbing.
Loved but SUPER NOISEY
The hotel itself was nice but it was very noisy. You can hear EVERYTHING. you could hear the room next door sneezing or cars passing by. They do give you ear plugs but it’s not enough. In the middle of the night guest would come in and be really loud and you could hear them slamming the entrance door and walking up the stairs. Like I said you can hear literally everything. The bed was uncomfortable. Any move we made you would hear all the springs. They need to add curtains a lot of light would come in from the streets at night. It was very small. But on a good note The hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly. It was in a convenient location.
It’s great aesthetically but only staffed during the day.
Clean rooms and area. Staff was nice. Would stay here again.
Everything about the property is amazing. The only thing it suffers from was the amount of homeless people but being in downtown San Diego that’s a given. 10/10 would stay again
Susie was amazing- very helpful The location suffers from a lot of homeless people - downtown San Diego
A very pleasant stay overall
The room was very small with the AC unit right up against the bed and parking was always a challenge.
Awesome place to stay close to everything walking distance
Close to destination and quiet
We went to San Diego to celebrate our anniversary and my husband’s birthday, Paris made a few very creative & sweet cards and gave us some treats! It was a great experience, I’d definitely recommend & would stay there again.
Extremely convenient location and very affordable. Unfortunately, the room got pretty hot and the AC would generate a TON of noise. The small room layout forced the AC to be right against the bed, causing the cool air to dissipate mainly into the underside of the bed.instead of cooling the room.
I travel for work 1-2 weeks a month and this is by far one of the best places I’ve stayed at. The staff is so helpful and friendly and the rooms have always exceeded my expectations for cleanliness. I always check availability here before looking elsewhere in the area.
10 stars for Sonder Stay
The staff were very kind and amazingly friendly and helpful. The Sonder had everything we needed to have a great stay including coffee, water, microwave, ice etc. Watching the city night lights come on from the rooftop was the perfect way to end the day. We felt safe inside the hotel the whole time and it began to feel homey and comfortable and the staff were like seeing friends every time we came through the door. Yea it’s noisy, that comes with a city. Yes there are unhoused people, that also comes with being in a large city. Unfortunately this is true for any hotel located downtown. However I would gladly stay at the Sonder again.
Noisy
The property is located close to the Gaslamp district with all the restaurants and night life. As with other Sonder locations, easy check-in and out, has a good list of recommendations of the neighborhood and on the app. When needed, a staff member replied promptly on the chat within their app. The hand written welcome note was a very nice touch from Susie and the team!
Our stay was perfect for a quick night. Loved that it was self check in and codes to get into building and room! Felt very comfortable and clean in our room! Thanks again
Room very small and hot ac doesn’t cool enough.
The only downside was not having parking available on property.
Great building and fantastic staff. Brian was the best!
This place is very unique and the service is great. However, not many amenities, and somewhat lack of privacy. No curtains on the windows that are literally on the other side of the sidewalk, spaces are very tight. No on-site parking so spent some time looking for street parking, and didn't feel safe when finally parked.
Good stay at Sonder The Baker
This was my third stay at a Sonder property after I stumbled upon the company earlier this year. In all three cities I have stayed (Savannah, Montreal, and now San Diego), the properties have had prime locations and excellent pricing. The rooms are sleek and clean, and the beds are always comfortable. Service/assistance is there if I were to need it. The Sonder model suits my needs perfectly. With the San Diego property, the rooftop space is a nice amenity.
Comfortable and Safe
I entered my room and was greeted with a handwritten, personalized welcome card from Paris and her Sonder team. I asked Paris for some recommendations for my down time between scheduled events. She went the extra mile and gave me a color-coded list with several options to choose from. Thank you for helping to make my visit to San Diego a memorable one. When I return, I will certainly be staying here again.
Absolutely amazing 6 nights, the whole stay was perfect. Everything you could ask for comfy bed, close to everything and exceptional service. Thank you to the whole team at Sonder Baker.
Will be back again for sure
Not the best experience!
Super noisy on the bottom floor, and the bed was hugging the street and therefore I woke up several times. Space was so small, I could barely have luggage in and move around. Bathroom looked old and outdated. Remote for Roku not working. Had to ask for iron board and iron.
The location was great for getting around downtown. However, we could hear every noise the neighbors and outside made along with the air conditioning. There is barely enough room to walk around the edge of the bed. It took us an hour and three people over the phone to check in because of it being booked from a third party site. The people who work on site are super nice and attentive.
Great friendly Staff
All good really enjoyed meeting staff they were lovely.
Loved the contactless entry, made the hotel feel very safe. Perfect location, everything is in walking distance.
Great
Is a cool spot, nice vibe, well decorated love the lobby, coffee machine available there. Very good Location few blocks from petco arena, walkable good restaurant nerby. What we didnt like is the noise in the morning and night specially at room 110 is too much if you need a beauty sleep you wont get it, they offer ear plugs but not enough, blinds should be blackout cause the street light is very bright. another thing was the hot water, we didnt have enough hot water we were 3 people in the bedroom, we contact the hotel and they were very attentive but if other people in the bulilding is taking showers at the same time you will have cold water.
San Diego spring break
Sonder at the Baker exceeded expectations. It was a great location. Very well kept. Great vibe. The room was small, but the bed was comfortable and they did the best that they could with the space. No daily maid service, but we didn't mind that. There were plenty of towels and more available in the lobby. The rooftop patio was great, I would have preferred that is was open later. We will definitely come back and I will try Sonder in other locations as well!
Good stay
Came here for my husbands birthday, loved the look all the way around, yes the rooms don’t have insolation it’s loud, but like white noise to sleep, heater didn’t work but they provided extra cozy warm and soft blankets. Staff was friendly, make sure you read how to check in. Minor hiccups but over all very nice stay. Will definitely book again. Ps the other reviews scared me but then I realized there’s people who whine about everything…. It’s a great stay and if you can bare noise your good and if your cold ask for a blanket. Close to gaslamp walking distance and great restaurants. Try it!
Loved the room! Super comfortable, felt like home.
Sonder The Baker, San Diego Spent two nights in a one bedroom. Smooth check-in, clean lobby. The room was loud from a floor level air conditioner unit mounted in to the wall. The unit is huge and sticks into the room at the base of the bed. When it's turned down to lessen the sound of the blowing fan, all you can hear is the traffic outside. The room came with ear plugs. now I know why. Running the shower – Has no door, so the water gets everywhere. Hot water lasts for a minute consistently. So all soaped up and then it's cold. This didn't matter what time of day it was used, it would drop out and I'd be standing there freezing. No dampening of sound from the floor above or the outside traffic. No consistent sleep, so was a mess for meetings over both days. Would not recommend. Would not stay again.
Great spot! Comfy beds, stylish vibe in room and lobby, excellent customer service! Will be back for sure!
Average stay
Our stay was ok, first time staying in this type of hotel platform. Disappointed to find the minimum of no cup in our room, no laundry bags, cleanliness was on point.
Enjoy cold water!
Stayed in a first floor room. Alot of noise! Hot water is an issue. They dont have a large enough hotwater system for this hotel. Was woke up at 2 am with a homeless person arguing with other in front of room. I can deal with the street noise, but the lack of hot water was ridiculess. Staff even told me that it was an old building! Dont make excuse, fix the issue.
convenient
Convenient, and good cost-performance ratio. The room in the corner of the house, first floor was very noisy on Saturday night, but the following nights were much better. Room is OK size and well organized, but it would have been nice to have some shelf or drawer space.
The woman who checked me in was so sweet and helpful. The room was clean and cute!
What was this
No room cleaning service for the two nights I was there
Really attentive care from the staff. Found it to be a really practical place for a work trip and would come back.
Unfortunately a disappointing stay
I was quite surprised by how small the room was. There wasn't even a place to put my clothes. My specific room was also overlooking the back entrance, ad there was a porch light that was lit the whole time. Lastly, the hot water was short lived and unfortunately in the cold days it was very tough to shower, after 2 min The water was
Pleasantly surprised in the City
Well, it was just a treat to be in a boutique hotel in our first visit to San Diego. We had challenges in the city that we are from the country, but we adopted with the help of a lovely staff at Sonder. we did not for daily room cleaning, I liked the more family approach to putting used towels in the hamper and picking up a few new towels when needed. The rooftop lounge provided a lovely escape from the city and a nice little family time around the (propane) fire after dinner.
So noisy that even ear plugs can’t block the motorcycles and loud exhaust cars throughout the night. Literally left at 1 am to find an alternative.
Absolutely a amazing experience.
The place ya pretty much perfect. Simple to access, great location and cute. Just one morning I had no hot water mid shower. Was annoyed but after about 6-8 minutes it returned...not the end of the world. Would deft stay there again.
Loved it, very relaxing area, all sorts of stuff down in the lobby area free coffee tea
Perfect stay
I really enjoyed my stay. Paris was very helpful and welcoming as was the maintenance man (sorry I don’t know his name.) Ai was able to do work in the lobby which was convenient. Would stay again.
Cool little place in east willage. Close to everything downtown. Ac/heat was a little noisy in 212. Good self service hotel.
It was very quaint. I liked the design a lot and it was a short 15 minute walk to convention center.
I love the staff, she was super nice and helpful.
Nice place with easy access and clear instruction to get to the room
The pre-check in process was excruciating. We booked this room for my mother-in-law which created quite a debacle for the pre-check in system. I tried at least 6 times. My husband tried at least 6 times. We forwarded it to his mother and she did same yet still we were stuck outside the lobby trying to get code to get in. Although the property was nice I would probably never stay at a Sonder hotel nor would I recommend to anyone nor would I book my mother-in-law there again.
Friendly staff. Walkable area. Pretty close to bars and restaurants, bus stop. Nice rooftop, it also has a firepit.
It was a cute spot to stay in for just sleeping and clubs are near by

Great location. Very clean and comfortable. Street noise was loud, but we were prepared for that thanks to other reviews. Would stay here again.
