Amazing grounds, pool and garden. Beautiful old hotel. Unfortunately, I had expectations for a more comfortable bed. I also expected the electricity to work and for their to be a little heat. There was no compensation for the failed electricity. I would definitely choose a different hotel next time and just visit the pool and the hotel. The staff did not care one bit for any of the issues. Disappointing. Go stay in Aswan instead!
Heaven on the Nile
Exceptional service and room. Thank you. We can’t wait to come back.
A very unique and historic property that brings Victorian charm to an ancient city. Delicious dining options and easy access to historic sites such as Luxor temple made the stay very memorable.
The place is beautiful...loved it there
Excellent
Classy Hotel with Old World Charm
Amazing…this hotel is true class all the way. It is stunningly beautiful, perfect location, the staff are so helpful, polite, and friendly. And the rooms and grounds are lovely. The dining is amazing…the food selection is so diverse. Throw back to an age of blissful charm.
Not for Westerners but ok location.
I had 2 rooms for my family, toiletries were more in one room than others. Food is not good, TV has only 3 channels in English and they are all news. The other 70 channels are in Arabic, Italia, French etc.
It is an impressive preserved and cared for construction from the year 1886, where every detail is meticulously cared for. If you love the exclusive, this hotel is for you.
Great location but needing refurbishment
Grand historic hotel with great views. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms small but comfortable albeit, along with common parts, in need of refurbishment. Nice big swimming pool although water freezing cold in early November.
Luxor overnight
We were here just overnight, wish we stayed longer. Beautiful property and amenities. Staff was great and our rooms were over the top
It’s a stunningly beautiful hotel that brings you back in time when an actual king used as his winter palace. Breakfast was excellent, bar atmosphere was elegant, and both restaurant options excellent. Highly, highly recommend.
I had a wonderful stay here. The staff were kind and the views were beautiful!
Everything was sheer excellence including the location. If you want the royal treatment experience, then this is the place. We hope to come back.
The only negative remark is the food... not many options and pretty bland.
Luxurious grounds and pool!!! Staff particularly friendly and helpful.
Love the grandeur of the building
Immaculate service by the staff. The hotel itself is great but the crew are what make it unforgetable. All the employees we met were friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay.
Sumptuous elegance and calm against the back drop of a chaotic city My mum and I spent a week here for her 80th b’day present. This is an oasis of calm compared to the chaos and hassle of Luxor. From the fact our room was upgraded by the lovely reception staff to have more space for the week we were there, to the soft and unbelievably comfy bed linen to the absolutely amazing staff who helped us, this is a wonderful Hotel. I can’t name them all as I’d be here all day, but stand outs were Ashraf, Khaled and Rashidy. And then the lovely receptionist, the brilliant door man who helped change my dollars on last day, to the lovely female cleaner. Mum had the best time and we ended up eating there every day as we liked the service so much.
Old School charm
A classic hotel in a stunning city!
Old time ambiance and service. Relaxing garden with swimming pool. Great location overlooking the river.
This is a phenomenal property with the elegance of an Italian villa. It was five star stay for sure. It was more of an experience to eat out and use local taxis rather than stay in.
Excellent stay
Beautiful hotel. Everything was excellent. Highly recommend.
Great customer service! Everyone was willing to help. We will go back
Great experience! Friendly staff and very clean rooms
A historic hotel in a prime location with wonderful staff and lots of charm. The staff takes great pride in their jobs and work really hard to accommodate your every need and request. Rooms are nice and offer very comfortable beds. The bar/lounge by the lobby was excellent. Great staff, service and live piano during happy hour. The grounds are spacious and beautiful. The pool is large, but requires significantly more chlorine as it has algae throughout the grout, walls and filters. The food was ok. Absolutly nothing to reflect or rival a 5 star hotel. The breakfast was ok. The food at the pool was subpar. Dinner was ok. The stores connected to the hotel are a circus. Nobels Art Gallery and Nobels Jewelers are all owned by the same family and are a complete rip off. I purchased an 18k cartouche from Shady. I picked up my cartouche and went back to the hotel and realized the letters on my name were FAKE GOLD. I took it back to the store and informed him I knew it wasn’t real gold. He admitted it and refunded me. So disturbing. I made the hotel aware given the stores products are displayed throughout the hotel endorsing the stores. Overall, the hotel was ok. It is a historic hotel but absolutly not a five star hotel.
This was one of my best experiences at a hotel. The Victorian ambience is charming. The service is absolutely phenomenal - the staff really take care of you and are super-friendly. The rosemary chicken at the restaurant was the best I have ever had.
Grand old hotel. Beautiful gardens and wonderful breakfast.
No upgrade, but great nevertheless.
It's a beautiful hotel, in a beautiful location, in desperate need of a total renovation. Everything is either dirty, or outdated. From peeling paint to toilets not flushing properly, everything need a gut job. Our room had a stunning view, but heating, bidet and windows did not work properly. We were freezing because of the draft from the old windows that don't close properly. The entire hotel is falling apart, certainly not the luxury experience we were expecting. We could not wait to get out of there.
It was chosen because it is "historical" or nearly so. It is a little run down. But still the best in the area, apparently
This is a palace that was built in 1886. the space is truly palatial and unique. An upgrade or restoration of furniture, and bathroom amenities need to be done.
Amazing experience in a mythical hotel
An old hotel with lots of character. Spacious. Beautiful garden. Good breakfast. High ceilings. We greatly enjoyed our stay.
Absolutely brilliant experience! Staff were so wonderful. Food amazing and the rooms just perfect! It is a wonderful hotel experience steeped in history and old world charm!
Beautiful old property. Probably would save money and stay at adjacent building for less than half the price next time. Was nice to have balcony looking out over Nile.
WORST HOTEL I HAVE NEVER STAYED
WORST Hotel I have ever stay in the 75 international cities I have visited. Really bad stay getting only a few hours sleep. Very noisy street. I ask to have my room changed and they reply hotel was full and couldn't change. The true is the hotel was very empty. I hardly saw anyone there and only a few people a breakfast. Saw only a few people checking in or out. Staff was not helpful at all. I finished my tour of Luxor early and since I was traveling light I had travel bad with me and decided to not to go back to to the hotel. My tour guide suggested another hotel to stay at and have dinner before going to the airport back to Cairo. It was a great hotel and wonderful dinner. If you are going to Luxor DON'T USE THIS HOTEL you will regret it!
pefect stay
staff was friendly and everything was ready as expected.
Friendly staff make you feel welcome in the hotel. Prestige suite is very spacious and elegant.
It’s a lavish unique hotel w a fantastic staff making you feel right at home , if you want you to be spoiled pampered and welcomed this is your place to go .
Luxor was a key stop on our ‘bucket list trip to Egypt’, and we are glad we chose the ‘Winter Palace’ for our stay. The property is stepped in history and full of character, and the garden is stunning and amazing (despite the heat at this time of the year, a very relaxing spot to be in). We stayed in the Prestige Suite which was very comfortable with a great view of the Nile. We were initially concerned the noise from the road might disturb us, but our fears proved unfounded. The staff were brilliant and did everything to ensure our stay was comfortable and memorable. We will definitely stay here again in future. Joseph/Funlola/Alfred
Stould frozen 100 years
Place appears like its stould frozen intime for a hundred years, regal bldg with very old yet very comfy furniture. I had not been aware that the restaurants and bar required long pants so the hotel lost a lot of our business.
The staff was very friendly, the hotel grand, and the location was great. Highly recommended.
Old Winter Palace
Lovely hotel and staff. Gardens beautiful.
the hotel is very nice, and staff were very helpful. the rooms could use a little updating, but are generally very nice as is.
The classiest hotel I've ever stayed. Highly recommend.
Iconic hotel
Very special hotel wonderful building and garden
Unique place great history and grand class ! I just recommend that they change to softer mattresses and put more water pressure in the showers ! I will go back to relive the magic ♥️
Top class hotel in every aspect.
Outstanding. Superb room superbly equipped including coffee maker and Bose sound system. Friendly staff that catered to our every need. The best hotel since the Peninsula Hong Kong. It is a class above the Marriott.
It was already the second stay in this beautiful hotel. We love the hotel. Everything from the friendly stuff, cleanliness, the beautiful rooms with high ceilings and the amazing view on the Nile. The beautiful garden with swimming pool is the quiet oasis after day trip to all historic places in Luxor. Strongly recommend.
Unique experience
A unique experience in an authentic palace of one of Egypt's great Kings
The winter palace is definitely a memorable trip. However, the hotel needs to be remodeled, the rooms are outdated and they need to be remodeled 💯 The staff did the best they could with what they had to work with especially Muhammad Ali the concierge was very helpful thank you again for everything you done for us 🙏
Experience the Winter Palace.
This historic property, was in fact a palace a one point in the late 1800s. The old world charm of the building remains. The staff are friendly, the breakfast spread is really nice (omelet or egg station), large assortment of options. The gardens of the back property are pristine and serine for a time of reflection, a cocktail or catching up with new friends. The location is really nice, and the nile views are amazing. TRAVELER WARNING: *** WHAT NOT TO DO *** the scams and taking advantage of tourist are frequent. We look like walking money machines for opportunistic locals. DO NOT BOOK A TOUR with your taxi driver from the airport. Ended up on a tour that was supposed to cost 85.00 plus the entry fees. 2nd day was supposed to be 25ish dollars plus entry -- CHARGED US 349 USD for 2 days. BEWARE. Needless to say we got taken. Use a trusted guide from the hotel.
☺☺☺
Lovely classic hotel with even better people working here.
An historic hotel
Great hotel that is an historic landmark . Beautiful big rooms with high ceilings, everything harkens back to the 1920’s. The breakfast buffet was very good with a lot of options . The location is also very good since it’s close to Luxor Museum (walking distance). The only issue is a weak WiFi that keeps disconnecting.
Piece of history
Great hotel, excellent service from the staff. Would highly recommend.
This is a historical palace and in the heart of Luxor. Just a fees mins walk and you can be at the Luxor temple. The hotel is old and with that, not as modern as it could be compared the Cataract hotel in Aswan. Nice large pool are but not sure they had a gym. Our room could hear the elevator going up and down all night and we had to use ear plugs. As an Expedia gold member I didn't even receive a welcome drink nor a room upgrade as our room was small and loud. The staff are very friendly and they make it much better. The morning breakfast was very nice though and had some great and tasty food. Don't miss it. The gardens are beautiful and a great escape from the city life, yet being in the centre of the city. To avoid all the people wanting to give you tours and rides, go through the back gate and you avoid everyone trying to get money from you. This is the best.
Glad that I stayed here
The hotel is filled with character and history, and the staff were very dutiful. Definitely enhanced my Luxor experience greatly!
Stay in a historical palace! Happy
Recognise it for what it is, a historical palace with historical plumbing, room design etc. Staff service was top notch and pleasant. The pool was super relaxing and the gardens beautiful. I had a garden view room with a huge terrace, which I really liked. The Nile view rooms actually face the street so intentionally didn't choose those. I don't think the view of the Nile in Luxor is great - for the most stunning view of the Nile, go for the Old Cataract in Aswan (even if only for some drinks on the terrace). Nice toiletries in sofitel style but towels were a bit worn out. Happy I stayed there for the experience and the character of the place.
Simply exquisite!
First I’d like to thank the front desk personnel for the special touch they added to make my stay enjoyable-Ahmed, Sally, Mohamed and the others. As for the service, no stone was left unturned, no detail overlooked in insuring guest had a great stay. I had a garden room, very quiet and relaxing. The complementary breakfast served in the Corniche was excellent; over the top. Be sure to try the unique Egyptian breakfast offerings.
Great classic hotel
This hotel is simply the best place to stay while in Luxor. The staff was incredibly helpful. They gave a free room upgrade and allowed us to have early check-in and a late checkout even giving us the room until our 5:30pm flight! We did not eat a the restaurant but the breakfast was lovely. The only thing that would make this better is if the pool stayed open later. I don't know why all the pools in Egypt seem to close so early. The best time to be in the pool in the summer is in the evening and they close before sunset. Other than that, everything was exactly how I would wish it to be. We will definitely stay here again upon our return to Luxor.
Fathi Galila, Mohama Mustafa & team were amazing! Thank you for the VIP upgrade, the hotel is historic and the gardens a respite from the Luxor sun. I had a wonderful stay here & highly recommend this beautiful hotel! Ricardo
Everything you could have asked for and a little bit more
My family and I (5 people) booked 2 rooms for 1 night at the Sofitel Winter Palace. Upon our arrival, we were upgraded from 2 Executive rooms with Nile view to the Opera House suite including the Lady Evelyn common area (2 gorgeous rooms with a beautiful private common area), which was by far the most exquisite room we've ever stayed in. We were treated like royalty during our stay at the Winter Palace. The Palace is beautiful, the grounds are amazingly well maintained, the pool area is amazing, the bar is gorgeous, the food is absolutely fantastic and the staff is simply amazing. To make things even better, there were 6 hours between our checkout and when we needed to catch our train back to Cairo. The Winter Palace staff provided a room for my party of 5 to use while we waited for our transport to the train station at no extra charge. When we visit Luxor again in the future (or any of our family and friends), we won't hesitate to book the Winter Palace. There's no other place we'd rather be. To be honest, if we had known the experience at Winter Palace was going to be so great, we would have stayed there for a week instead of staying in Cairo.
The Jewel of the crown of all hotels in Egypt. Built by the king of Egypt to entertain his guests one hundred and fifty years ago, it maintains its charm and services. Beautiful rooms, wonderful garden and restaurants and a bar to enjoy a few strips away from Luxor temple. Highly recommended to perfect your visit to Luxor.
Great
Great but taxis outside hotel is very aggressive and never stop bothering you. I took careem and they keep bothering me to take their taxi and insist i go in their taxi even when im inside careem. regular taxi is maybe 2-3x more expensive if not more
Decent
Great service. Really appreciated their offer to help buy a train ticket, even sending someone to the train station for a small additional charge. The rooms are clean but it's an old hotel. It feels like the glory days are long gone and definitely needs updating to stay at this price point. Very slow wifi but perhaps that's an issue everywhere.
Pros: The gardens are wonderful. Great pool area. Upgraded rooms with a balcony facing the Nile are great. The service is amazing. The history of the palace is great. The breakfast buffet is surprisingly good. The staff is excellent and they are very accommodating. They surprised me with a birthday cake in my room on my day. Even gave us a temporary room when EgyptAir changed our flight at last minute without cost or issue to wait out the extra 8 hours we ended up having after check out because of the flight. Cons: Badly needs a refresher. Dinner menu in both restaurants need a major overhaul in quality. Pricing for food and especially alcohol is way too high based on the quality issue. My partner ran up a 3 figure USD bill for a few drinks while she hung by the pool, not realizing the cost. Get alcohol locally for very cheap. But, it is the Winter Palace. It is one of a kind, and it really was the royal palace in a previous life. Other than the minor issues which are easily avoided, it is a wonderful place with 5 star service.
Best hotel in Luxor, garden is beautiful, quite perfect to rest.
I thought the carpet in the room was a bit dirty since it’s beige color and old with stains on them. Also, the wifi speed is super slow but okay for some quick work but not to download / upload large files. My dinner was also really salty. But otherwise, the bed was comfortable, shower was large, breakfast was delicious, the hotel also has a nice large pool to chill around with screaming kids. I thought hotel was a bit pricy for what it is. It’s a nice one night place. There are other hotels in the area that are better with similar prices to stay longer.
A beautiful hotel, lovely stay overlooking the garden ❤
Amazing superb historical hotel
Beautiful place
I really liked this place it was very comfortable and beautiful. I will be back again.
Great stay
Historical jewel of a hotel with exceptional service. Just wish the food was better. Also, needs a bit of update.
Amazing stay, beauty and comfort
Best location possible ! Big wide rooms, nice bathroom Amazing breakfast All the beauty of the 19th century ! Magnificent pool and garden Bad thing is the balcony, dusty and full of pigeon dirt all over the chairs and table ! That was really not good coming from Sofitel.
Manager wasn’t around when I checked out and hasn’t answered my communications. Terrible service!
An actual Palace
Beautiful place. It’s a literal palace. Grounds are gorgeous. Building needs a little bit of fixing up. FYI you can smoke indoors in Egypt. Beauty of view of the Nile. Walking distance from Luxor temple. Staff was exceptional!
This is THE place to stay in Luxor!! The location, the gardens, the beautiful rooms! The amazing breakfast! Don’t doubt it! The staff was great as well and made our stay perfect. The hotel is walking distance from the Luxor Temple and it has gardens and pools to relax. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at.
Too expensive for what it is
Old and dirty. Ventilation duct full of dust. Toilet layout is stupid, I can’t even pee properly !!!
The winter palace needs to be renewed and has been in the companies plans for sometime. But the building is a heritage and too many parties agree to disagree how to go about the renovation of the winter palace. A petty really
Well managed historic royal property. The Egyptian kingdom crown is engraved on the original window's glass. The rooms are hilariously wide and the furniture is classic master pieces. The whole experience is not just a hotel stay, it is a time travel experience.
The food was better when we last stayed there twelve years ago. Service remains at a high standard, but the property requires more regular maintenance. We were also charged at a rate higher than the one we booked on Expedia and we would appreciate Expedia confirming that we had made a booking at USD 160 and not USD 210. Please advise.
The original building has retained the charm and grandeur of the old British empire. The old building needs some retouches.
Lovely stay
Lovely hotel, great service, great food and all around great stay. I would definitely recommend for travellers who enjoy luxury while traveling. Some of the restaurants have a formal dress code, and the restaurant in the garden needs booking, so make sure to book.
Lovely hotel. Will be nicer when they finish construction of the corniche
Professionalism and friendlyness of all hotel employes and mgmt.
The gardens are beautiful. Lousy food and we got poisoned. Dirty room with The smallest bathroom I ever seen on a suite prestige. Service was very bad on front desk at checkout. They didn’t even woke up us on time.
Great old hotel. A bit tired appearing. No workout room but great pool.
Was really amazing hotel and staff, very elegant and clean and I love everything about it
Wonderful old school hotel, It felt like stepping back in time. The staff were super friendly and extremely professional, the rooms large, clean and comfortable. Location was great for my second time in Luxor. Breakfast was delicious and as I left early to catch a flight they even had a breakfast box ready for me on my last day!! Pool area is fantastic Overall a great place to stay in Luxor!! If your planning on booking a boat package tour from Luxor come early or stay longer and stay a couple of days here!! It’s well worth it!!
Sofitel Winter Palace in Luxor was one of the most beautiful and graceful hotels that I have ever stayed. It had so much history and unique antiques. I loved the Old World aesthetic and hope it NEVER changes!
So full of history!
We really enjoyed our stay! The Winter palace oozes history and old world charm, with all the conveniences of modern world living. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. All meals were very good, from the very extensive breakfast to the fixed menu dinner. The pool area is very refreshing and the beautiful garden a perfect place to relax after a day of sight seeing. Our suite had an amazing view towards the Nile (free upgrade, much appreciated!). We had a couple's massage on our last morning and it was so good that we went back for one more before our late check out. Wish we had discovered it earlier! We will certainly come back and highly recommend this hotel (site of the announcement of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb by the way!).
Property’s walls transpire more glamorous times. The botanical garden is a small slice of Paradise. Staff are the quintessence of courtesy.
we are upgraded before we can ask for it,very accomodating and understanding to guest. really 5 star
Great staff and hotel. Amazing garden and views. Loved every minute there.
Beautiful hotel and very nice staff. The pool is amazing at the end of a full day of tours. Great place to have a drink and watch the sunset over the Nike river!
Sofitel Winter Palace
Delicious food. Impeccable service. Friendly staff
Historic Hotel a must stay
Travelled with my mother and stayed four nights. We were very pleased with the overall experience. Staff very attentive, friendly, making us feel valued. Mohammad overseeing the Corniche Cafe during breakfast was outstanding. Same goes for the gentlemen working at the pool, super attentive. The room was very comfortable with a nice view of the Nile. I highly recommend staying here, it is a nice experience. I do have one suggestion for Sofitel’s management in the headquarters, to consider dressing employee working at outside areas such at the pool with less formal attire during summer time to any . Saw management wearing ties and long sleeves shirts when it was 45 C outside. Although visually looks good, is inhuman to have them wear that with so much heat. A nice polo shirt and thin pants would look professional too. Something to consider, an easy fix.
Fabulous indeed! Unique experience ❤️ Thank you for everything and amazing staff! Highly recommended.
Best of Luxir
Best place to stay in Luxor! beautiful, great location and service.

Life goals - stay in a palace. Completed!! This hotel was incredible and had a beautiful view of the water (Nile), you could stroll at night and visit the Luxor temple. The bathroom and large patio off the bedroom were stunning. The breakfast on fine china and delicious eats was one of the best I’d had in a while. Will definitely return to this place that was comfort and heaven in every way.
