This is at least our 40th time at the SlieveDonald over the last 30 years and our stay was excellent. Beautiful spa room and a lovely meal on Sunday night at Percy French restaurant and a lovely spa treatment for my wife. Will certainly be back.
And for breakfast at 9.40 had to wait for 35 minutes to be called by room number. There was hard cheese, ends of bread, waited a further 20 minutes for tea and toast. Awful!
Had a great stay. Overall very good. Some things could do with being updated.
Perfect family Christmas hotel
We stay in the Slieve Donard each Christmas with our children and always have the best time with the best service. Everything is spotless and nothing is ever too much trouble. Always grateful for our little slice of heaven this time of year
Myself and my husband went down with 17-year-old daughter to stay one night we had a great time in the hotel
Amazing hotel
Had a fantastic 2 night stay at the slieve donard hotel, staff are amazing and friendly, got an upgrade room with fantastic seaview, the spa was amazing especially the jacuzzi, could sit in it all day, only slight negative comment would be,we booked a table in jj farrells restaurant on the Friday evening for a festive dinner, but were told that they weren't starting the festive menu for another few days breakfast was absolutely superb, an amazing choice,,thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back next year all being well
Lovely location
Amazing hotel and location. Clean comfortable and close to beach and walking distance to town
We have been before it was refurbished a year ago to the style it would have been when it was built was beautiful there is nothing bad i can say about it just excellent
I preferred my 1st visit last Nov. Hotel -stunning location. Entrance hallway was beautifully decorated. quick check in but when got to room our keys wouldnt work. A cleaner kindly let us in. I tried to call recept to ask Concierge to bring us new keys but the phone did not work. We had our dog stay with us which was great but i felt that our room had a " dog" smell when we entered the room. Couldn't open windows. Some of the decor of the room looked a little grubby (e.g door frame in bathroom, chipped paint , a lamp that didnt plug in). Wasnt impressed for being a 5 star hotel. Delighted we can bring our dog but do feel hygiene standards need to be at highest. There was hair pins lying on my floor from a previous guest. Bathrooms at recept were disgusting and not cleaned all evening. Bin was over flowing by end of night. We had a lovely evening in the bar - fantastic singer. Thankfully had read reviews about the service charge added to all drinks bills. Paid £24 for 2 gins to then get a bill for £26.40. I went to bar myself for rest of night. Tips should be at customers discretion. Got a dirty glass at one point. When i asked for another glass the bar man just lifted the drink and threw it down the sink. He couldnt find another glass as they were all dirty so offered me an alternative then looked annoyed i asked for fruit. not 5* standards. Breakfast was just ok,cooked breakfast not great and we were put in drawing room without being asked. Didnt have same feel.
Disappointing to the max
Sauna at 65 degrees Eye stinging pool (chlorine doesn't sting, urine does!) Drafty room, wind whistling through the door (no opening window!) Very very poor dinner; forgot the sides, chicken served tepid, steak chewy as an old boot House keeping woke us clattering Hoover's etc very early Kept awake by other residents using lift opposite room; cm's gap at bottom of door inviting all noises in Check out at 11, house keeping banging on the room door at 5 past, 10 past... Had been looking forward to staying at the Slieve for some weeks. Plan was walking the Mournes then enjoying the spa. Disappointed to the point of frustration Would strongly recommend eating dinner elsewhere Lovely staff, great location but an abysmal experience
Wonderful stay
The staff were so friendly and attentive. We adored the sea view room, perfect size, massive, comfortable bed and everything you need - a fridge, and wine cooked, tea, coffee etc. breakfast was delicious and had lots of options. The spa was lovely - only negative of the whole trip was the sauna was not hot enough. But it won’t put us off going back :)
Amazingly cold!
Amazing Weekend Break
It was our first time in the part of Ireland and we had a wonderful stay, we really couldn't have asked for more. Unfortunately we missed the option of getting a sea view but I believe we could have selected this if we spotted the follow up email but apart from the we had a stay that will live long in our memory.
We didn’t like that the room was very small! Four steps to the bed from the door! The hotel was very, very warm and the windows only opened an inch. There was no bath and only one bathrobe in the room. The bathroom wasn’t very clean either. The hairdryer in the room had poor performance and there was only one socket at the door for to plug it in, Overall are stay was average at best! Very unimpressed for a 5 star hotel!
Spa overnight stay
Lovely relaxing spa trip. Room was amazing and well designed.
Anniversary Overnight
We had such an amazing time once again at this beautiful hotel . We obviously plan another stay some time soon . Such a lovely experience
We stayed here as a family with our small baby for our wedding anniversary for 3 nights. As a 5 star hotel you expect top class luxury but I think the days of that are gone. The staff were so inexperienced. I know everyone has to start somewhere but there is a lack of training from reception to bar/restaurant staff. Our room was nice but lighting poor for doing hair etc. no coffee or tea in room and the door was ate which looked like teeth marks and carpet torn obviously from the hotel being dog friendly so left the room looking grubby. The bar for food and drink was expensive and there was no atmosphere. The Saturday night there was entertainment and it was poor to say the least. We’ve stayed in better 3 star hotels for a fraction of the price as here is very expensive. Only thing I will rate is the leisure facilities and a big shout out to Ciara who done my massage in the spa. Such a lady and fantastic at her job.
We’ve now stayed a few times, however this was the 1st time since the complete refurbishment, absolute wonderful and excellent staff as always!
Amazing and staff are very nice kind and fantastic! Very guest oriented and extremely friendly and helpful! Will be coming back soon! Aster
The only complaint we had was that the water was cold for shower and sink. Disappointing. One the things you look forward to in evening.
On the corridors running between the Bedrooms, the fitted carpets kept the areas very quiet, so was not troubled in the night. All the staff were always polite and well prepared to answer any matters raised. We have used the Hotel many times over the years, the basic quality has always been excellent, as it was this time under the new management. We will come again.
Perfect stay
Loved it from start to finish, beautiful hotel.
Not the worst, not the best
Lovely staff, nice environment. Spa felt like a leisure centre, over crowded and no towels provided. Rooms lovely and comfy but had two cold-luke warm showers. Staff helpful and friendly. Overall, nice enough place but would not go back or recommend as a 5*. More like 3.5 or 4 and therefore overpriced.
Place is great!
Golden Anniversary Stay at Slieve Donard.
Had lovely stay at hotel to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was delicious.
Chill time
Fantastic Room amazing with sea view and spa was brilliant Breakfast is awesome
Quality five star hotel with good food and facilities.
The staff were excellent, very welcoming and as it was my wedding anniversary and birthday they upgraded is. Rooms were beautiful, bed was so comfortable, we had a great 2 nights sleep
We stayed to celebrate a birthday. The hotel staff were incredibly kind to us, they even let us check in early which was greatly appreciated. The hotel and spa are beautiful, we will be back next year again.
The rooms were very good but the buffet breakfast needs a lot of attention. Staff were young and inexperienced in the dining room for a five star hotel.
Amazing weather and friendly staff!
All great!
The Slieve Donard is a grand hotel that has been lovingly restored and refurbished. The check-in process was quick and easy and the staff were very friendly. The room was lovely with a very comfortable bed. There was a bit too much furniture in the room - quite cluttered with extra chairs which we didn’t need. The dining options in the restaurants were excellent and Shelby was friendly and welcoming. The musing in the Wolf bar needs some attention though - sounds like lift music! The spa area was lovely. Would recommend/return.
No guest access to adult only thermal suite.
We were checking out hotels with spa services for a future trip. We enjoy thermal suites during our stays. We had just booked a massage the day before at the previous accomodation so we were looking forward to using the thermal suite at Slieve Donard. Unfortunately they don't mention, without a spa appointment you only have access to the community facilities. Usually places we stay allow guests access to the adult only facilities. The community area is nice, but not at all relaxing. I wish we would have known. Not sure we will stay again as it is a bit out of the way.
Having stayed here for our Covid honeymoon, we were really looking forward to returning to celebrate my birthday. This is our first visit since the hotel had been bought over and renovated - it is absolutely beautiful. The staff on reception and in the spa were great, but we were really let down by the staff during breakfast service. I think we asked about 3 different people for toast and coffee. We found the hot food options at the buffet greasy and hard from sitting too long on the heaters.
What’s not to love about this hotel, it’s fabulous. Treat yourself to a stay here, you won’t be disappointed. The rooms and common areas are great and the surrounding area perfect for a stroll. I’ll be back, with any luck!
Decent hotel but not 5 star. Breakfast is a low 3 star, facilities a good 4. Staff are amazing, however very over worked at breakfast. My room cost nearly £400 and I'll not be returning again.
Lovely location had a great time
We had been upgraded to a suite , dog-friendly hotel was why we chose the property , along with the spa option and family swim. Some problems with the room technology and plumbing but thankfully Mary at reception really listened to our concerns and rectified things at checkout. Thanks, Mary!
Pleasant short break
We stayed 2 nights and this was our first visit since the hotel was renovated. The room we were allocated was 452 and unfortunately with it being at the very top of the hotel it was really noisy during the night when a storm started. We had to move rooms in the middle of the night to get to sleep - the staff were very helpful and accommodated us but we lost a lot of sleep. Breakfast was lovely and a lot calmer than it slides to be! I would suggest that the rooms need more storage for clothes as there are no drawers at all and also the room layout is strange as the TV isn’t portioned where you could watch it from either the seats or the bed. Just small suggestions that would help make it more comfortable.
Summer Family Time
Trip was outstanding from the moment we arrived at the Slieve Donard. Staff were very helpful and always on hand with assistance. Spa and swimming pool facilities were state of the art with pool being perfect for toddler. Decor of hotel was one of a kind with our room decor being first class. Bed was excellent however pillows were a little to soft however that’s only minimal in the whole hotel experience.
Amazing Hotel
We had a wonderful stay at the Slieve Donard. Great location, beautiful surrounding atmosphere with the mountains of Mourne as your view., We encountered the friendliest and most helpful receptionist ever, she was lovely and made a great first impression of the hotel. Amazing staff all round. Everything about the hotel was exceptional. It was clean, stylish, and elegant with excellent service. Food was very good at Breakfast although the hotel was full, plenty of room in the breakfast room. Room 328 was amazing with sea and mountain views from your bed what more could you ask for when on holiday. The Spa was spotless and again the staffs were very attentive, what an experience watching the Sea from the Jacuzzi. We were extremely pleased with our stay. I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future.
Good stay but little things could have made it better. No bottled water or kettle with teas or hot chocolate in the room with the little biscuits. Bathroom did not have anywhere to hang towels
Was fine
Our stay was excellent and restful .
Was jst very very good staff food etc
Beautiful Hotel, but make sure you arrive early if you have children as it closes early in the evening
Great stay and on site swimming facilities are wonderful for the kids. Only downside to our stay was our bedroom was extremely cold throughout the night with no way to adjust the temperature
Service good but condition of room was not 5*
The service was good but overall condition of the room and hallway was not what you would expect for a 5*. We had a coffee stain on corner of TV unit and multiple cobwebs on ceiling. There was also a random bit of masking tape hanging from our curtain. The hallway around the lift needed a good hoover the entire time we were there. The room was dark with a lot of notable paint chips. Breakfast was nice and staff at restaurant and reception were attentive but general condition let the hotel down.
Friendly staff. Relaxing spa. A lovely place to stay
Beautiful hotel with wonderful staff. The views were out of this world and so close to town we were never bored. The breakfast is amazing and the beach is so close to hand. An amazing stay with many memories made.
More than imagined!
The rooms are brilliant very clean breakfast was out standing
Hotel stay
Great stay, great hotel, friendly staff
Loved this place!
Great location and staff!
Great location, in a beautiful hotel. Service was superb - nothing seemed too much trouble. Room was large and clean with added extras of a coffee maker and capsules. Obstructed view with opaque covering limited natural light entering room. Slight problem with drainage from sink and shower. Main bed amazing, double bed for children bowed slightly at centre. Bedding and pillows were the best I’ve ever had. All in all, a lovely trip with amazing staff. Thank you.
Not the 5 Star experienced expected
My initial experience at check-in was good as I was upgraded from my standard room, however, despite speaking to a member of the night staff on reception before retiring to bed on the Thursday evening about my disappointment that a service charge had been automatically added to drink purchases in the bar - even single pints - without being given receipts or being informed that this was happening - as we were unaware of this practice, on some occasions, I and others were also tipping cash on purchases! - I heard nothing back and upon check-out was not even asked if I had enjoyed my stay. I was also disappointed that when I used the leisure centre, I noticed that there were empty glasses and bottles stacked on the bar in the relaxation lounge on the Thursday evening - which wasn’t open for the duration of my stay - and they were still there on the Saturday morning. I don’t expect a buffet breakfast service in a five star hotel. Also tables were left uncleared despite guests still arriving for breakfast and hard to get anyone’s attention for more coffee - I gave up in the end. Overall, nice hotel but not comparable to other 5 star experiences even in NI.
A wonderful if expensive hotel.
A wonderful but expensive hotel. Baroque rooms which were a little dark but amazingly comfortable bed and pillows.
Excellent stay
Excellent, comfortable, pillows 10/10. Only downside not staying longer.
Stunning property with extremely helpful staff and gorgeous rooms.
Fabulous room with a view of the Sea and Mourne Mountains… lovely hotel with a nice restaurant and bar making fantastic cocktails. Provided golf clubs for free to play at local courses and assisted with Tee times. Well definitely visit again.
Fantastic location
The green paint was a bit oppressive, but everything else was great. The staff were excellent. Very good breakfast. Large, well-equipped leisure centre. Dog friendly a plus for us! Wonderful sea front setting looking straight at Mountains of Mourne.
Great service and comfort
This was a nostalgia trip for me, several decades after the last visit. Of course it has changed. Reception staff were great as they were busy when I arrived, explaining bar/dining options and the leisure spa. Our room was spacious and luxurious, the bathroom also roomy (although you couldn't reach the toilet roll holder from the toilet!) We used the swimming pool, the spa has great facilities. We had a meal at the Percy French pub in the grounds where the food was good and the staff were friendly. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a huge choice. All in all it was the perfect overnight stop on a longer trip
Service was terrific employees polity, friendly and helpful. Best part of the stay. Rooms were to dark and could have had lotion for guests. Breakfast as it always was wonderful with typical variety from years ago.
We had an amazing stay the hotel is beautiful the only thing tht let it down for us was a dog howling for over two hours from 11pm to after 1am
You feel like you’ve stepped back into another era. The staff was friendly and helpful. The spa was relaxing and complimentary to our reservation as was breakfast the next day. Our only struggle was the noise seagulls on the roof but that would not detour us from staying here again! Lovely lovely place
Setting, and views from the dining areas, and spa is magnificent
Fabulous upmarket hotel.
I booked this for my my daughter and partner. They loved it and are hoping to return again in July. Fabulous hotel.
Disappointing
Despite having messaged and phoned to confirm we would have a king room, we arrived to the hotel and were allocated a twin room. I went back to reception and was told there were no other rooms and ended up pushing the beds together and putting a king sheet over them… not the most comfortable. We also had an awful view of a car park, the service entrance and the bins. We later found a child’s sock on the floor as well. When we went to go to the spa on our second day there were no slippers in our room so we had to go and look for some. My husband’s robe was taken from the men’s changing room as well. We had to request fresh towels for our room as it wasn’t serviced until after 4pm. When we arrived back form dinner our robes were lying in a ball on the floor beside the door. Unfortunately a disappointing experience and we probably won’t return.
Staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful.
Beautiful hotel, stunning location, excellent staff and lovely spa/pool
Shower didn’t work. Receptionist did try to locate us to two rooms. However with two kids I did not feel comfortable. Sink blocked the whole time. Overall bathroom a bit run down. Also carpets in various locations looked dirty and room not cleaned to standard expected and seen before. That being said beds very comfortable and staff in all locations friendly and helpful.
Top class Hotel with good service, not quite 5 Star Rating and food in the Percy French was overpriced and not up to standard.
The staff were amazing and went above and beyond at every step to ensure we were having a good time. We brought takeout back to the hotel and the concierge offered to get us plates, cutlery, napkins for the room. They know what you need before you even know! Also, the complimentary breakfast is delivered to your room at an hour of your choosing for 5 pounds per person. Such a great way to start the day with a big irish breakfast plus a big pot of coffee in your room.
Lovely hotel had a great time.
The location is perfect, with easy access to both the town and the beach.
It lovely place with spacious rooms, ill be back again for sure.
Fantastic location
Absolutely fabulous. Well worth paying a bit extra for a sea view. Totally stunning views, opulent room and delicious breakfast.
Very Impressed
We stayed for our daughter's birthday and will definitely be back. The service was first class, the staff extremely helpful and professional, the room was superb and our dining experience at The Percy French was amazing. Can't recommend the Sleeve Donard enough.
Stunning hotel now even better.
New name, new image and exceptional standards. The rooms were beautifully decorated with very traditional fittings. Fixtures, fittings, furnishings and furniture all beautifully co ordinated. Public areas immaculate and the new restaurant was jaw dropping. Attention to detail in every aspect was first class.
Great hotel with superb leisure facilities.
Excellent Hotel - recommend paying a little extra for a room with a mountain / sea view. The spa and pool are second to none. Just great to sit in the jacuzzi with a direct view of the mountains. Sauna not nearly hot enough (lukewarm) and steam room floor retains water (puddles). Great breakfasts and friendly staff.
This is a beautiful hotel and I loved the style and decor of the place. Staff were lovely particularly at check in and it’s a fab location. Really enjoyed the spa as well. My only minor critique would be that the room was very warm at night and there wasn’t a heating panel or ac to control this.
Unique
Amazing very different from other hotels which makes for a unique experience
Best view in a hotel room ….. breathtaking
We had a really enjoyable stay, and the reception staff (especially Mary) was lovely and so helpful. Unfortunately, the heating in the room wasn't working and the room and bed linen were very cold which might that we had a sleepless night. The shower didnt heat up either. I brought this to the attention of the reception staff who will address the issue and they arranged to refund me. This however would not put me off returning because everything else was first class, and the SPA was wonderful!
Fabulous setting Wonderful hotel Hospitality is 10/10
Top Class
Lovely to see familiar faces in The Slieve Donard. All the staff could not be more helpful and pleasant. Breakfasts were as usual top class and the tasty porridge still as good as ever with the usual accompaniments! The new decor is wonderful, however the lighting in the bedrooms could be better with a lamp on the desk and better bedside lights for reading. Overall though a super spot and look forward to returning soon.
Just had an amazing stay at this vintage gem! The hotel's classic charm perfectly complements the stunning sea and mountain views. The rooms, adorned with old-fashioned elegance, create a unique atmosphere. The exceptional service from the friendly and professional staff made the experience truly memorable. Highly recommend for a soulful retreat!
Relaxing break
My sister and I had a lovely overnight stay. Were given an unexpected upgrade to a beautiful room with a few of the sea and mountains and we enjoyed the spa facilities. After a beautiful breakfast we set off feeling relaxed and well rested. Can’t wait for a return visit
We had a lovely stay. Staff were very friendly. Facilities were great. Very busy at breakfast so service bit hit miss. Had to ask for coffee a few times and plates not cleared.
A few days R&R
Lovely break away with my husband. The hotel was lovely. Stayed in the junior suite. Couldn’t have asked for more. The spa was amazing. Although the hotel was very busy it didn’t seem too packed. We will certainly be back.
Slieve donard hotel
We had an amazing staysfd upgraded our roo. Staffed service were excellent as i would highly recommend a visit.
Overnight Stay
Staff were very helpful and friendly. The recent refurbishment of the hotel has been done very well.
Fantastic weekend Spa treatment was gorgeous
Staff are very polite. Spa facilities are spacious and clean and offer plenty of amenities. Breakfast is everything you could want. Hotel is well kept inside. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Only a few issues, 2 of which were avoidable had staff been better informed. Had a first floor room and told to use lift via spa (complete opposite direction). Long story short spent 15 mins trying to find our room that was pretty much above reception. Arrived at the spa at 5:30 to be told that the spa closes at 5 for hotel guests. Have no idea why the staff member thought this. Thankfully another staff member overheard and quickly stepped in to correct them. The new decor in the rooms is… something. It may be to others taste which is grand. Not too sure what their thoughts were when designing the rooms, only for it being clean and well finished would you consider it very old and dated. The colour scheme makes the rooms very dark and the random chairs and pictures on the walls just dont make sense. I am in favour of the bright spacious rooms they had in my previous stays but thats just my opinion and it still isnt enough to put me off staying.
Such a beautiful stay - my only point to make is that the heating cant be turned down, so we had a very hot night!
Lovely hotel located right on the beach. Great service, wonderful spa, excellent breakfast, and very relaxed, informal atmosphere.
Great hotel all around can’t say anything about it that’s never
We had a superior room with sea view, Soap in the bathroom to wash your hands and a full mirror in the room. Everything in this hotel has just been painted over the dark wood. and is all starting to flake of already. I also went to the spa. In my opion i wouldn't say this is 5☆.

Over all good stay
Good stay, no queue or delay at check in Room was nice and bar service was good. Though Still haven’t sorted the pool is to cold and the jacuzzi is way way to hot There was also a lot of kids in the pool so bit more noisy than expected
