Handy location - quick to get to motorway. Rooms were presented to a high standard & spotlessly clean. Would stay again
Attended wedding and stayed on site. Great quiet location
Unique quiet but great stay
The environment is beautiful, but the room I stayed in was a little small and old.
Silverstream Retreat is located in a beautiful setting, the staff went above & beyond to help me even when I checked in at 2 am. And thr hotel is really nice.
Just fabulous!
Sadly not a good experience staying on 13 Dec. We enjoyed visiting twice previously & returned hoping for a nice getaway. This time we were put in a different part of the retreat. Staff upon both arrival & check out on could hardly have been less friendly / welcoming. We were woken at approx 3.30am by an alarm going off in the complex. The room itself appeared to have recently been redecorated, however the building is clearly very old & embarrassing to charge $172 to stay in. Please can you kindly refund us for the poor experience.
Great stay, friendly and fantastic hospitality. Beds are comfortable and pillows were amazing. Beautiful venue for a wedding or big party. Thank you to the team that took care of everyone.
Have stayed here a few times now in the studios and it is always warm and cosy. Tidy and clean
Lovely welcome. Pleasant staff
Very quiet, lighting for access could be improved. Very good breakfast available. Dish washing supplies needed in rooms staff very friendly and obliging.
Had a great sleep and rest. Thanks.
Thanks for the great accommodation.
The service was tumeke.
Quite pretty little cottage that we stayed on. Staff were excellent and the area was very quiet. There are walkable bits down by the river which we didn’t get down to.
Really loved the place. It felt very tranquil.
Friendly staff only too happy to assist.
Perfect location for our visit to Wellington.
Have stayed here before and that is why we were back. Everything was what you would expect for two hundred a night although I don’t remember the WIFI being quite as slow.
Unusual property. Handy location and good service. Room was clean and tidy.
Great accommodation, helpful staff and as described online.
Lovely place
Great place to stay. Was very quiet and comfortable
Relaxing and chiil, out of town
recommend this place highly - especially for the traveling business person. Easy to get to, easy parking, safe, well appointed rooms. quiet. spic and span. scenic. great
What a lovely place to stay. Well away from the rat race of the city and yet not too far to travel. The place is huge, yet with clear instructions from the staff very easy to navigate. A short drive to get food and snacks. Room was perfect for my overnight stay. Comfy bed, quiet and blackout drapes.
We had a wonderful stay and it feels like a retreat!!
Unique location with beautiful grounds
What a wonderful surprise!
A beautifully restored and refurbished ex-military hospital. Stunning setting within an amphitheatre of forested areas. Rooms are immaculate. A real ‘retreat’. Modern, classy, spacious, clean, comfortable. The owners have done a superb job with this property.
Only stayed two nights but would definitely stay again.
I liked the out look and the fact it had history
Spacious studio room - Room 5. Beautiful grounds! No aircon in room, but managed to get a good airflow by leaving the window & backdoor open all night. Shower drizzled and there was no platform to place the soap. One small towel each.
Very noisy neighbours didn’t help for a peaceful stay .
The Stonewall Studio is a clean and tidy well presented room, with everything I needed for a comfortable two night stay. The staff are very friendly and accommodating.
Nice place
Nice place, bit expensive for limited facilities we felt. Room pretty hot even with fan on.
Property was in a mint condition with everything needed set up already.
Location was great, nice and wuiey
I liked the fact that I was able to book at short notice. There was no phone in the room and I could not dial out from the phone on the hall, so I had to use the phone in reception.
Room was mostly clean and well-furnished, although the window sill in the bathroom needed cleaning. My room didn't have a separate sink to wash dishes in which was not convenient, though I was staying when the housekeeping were off work so maybe they replace your dishes when they're at work. Having a portable fan in the room during summer is greatly appreciated. Overall the hotel offered safe, affordable accommodation with good views and if I'm in the area again I'll be happy to stay again
One thing I didn’t like. Lights not bright enough to read by. And so many pillows and cushions. If you don’t use them nowhere to put them. Otherwise excellent
Awesome property, away from busy city but close enough to highways, great retreat
Love this place.
Gateway to the Capital!
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Was weird really. Close to the motorway and river but felt like country - go figure :-) The history of the building is interesting and the staff are fabulous. Really friendly and totally welcoming. The units/apartments are delightful - an old feel in a modern atmosphere. Will definitely be back. Don't skip this one.
Cool environment..park like. Quiet, clean and comfortable. Easy access and parking.
no place tto eat on a monday
A large group of us stayed for a judo tournament, excellent rooms, plenty of parking and room for teenage boys to enjoy time outside together.
nice place to retreat. we have been here many times in the past two decades.
Throughout the night, a horrible noise woke us up a few times. Upon check out, we reported this to the very friendly front office assistant, and a man we assume is a manager overheard and came closer. We recorded the sound on a video and played it for him. After some thinking, he said it was the bathroom towel rail, which was probably on a high setting, and the heating water was the cause of the noise. I then stated that we turned off the power switches. He then referred back to the heat setting, which is apparently separate from the power switches. I told him that as people new to New Zealand, we were unaware that the rail had separate settings. Our heat rail is switched and off at home by a power switch next to the light switch. He then said that if we had called throughout the night, he would have come and changed the heat rail's setting, and the noise would've been gone. In all honestly, we did not think of that. We are not argumentative people. A simple "sorry about that" would suffice. But that is not what he did. He turned it around as if we were at fault. First, for not knowing to turn down a heat setting we did not know existed, and then for not calling them in the middle of the night. This should never have happened. The rail is not supposed to make such a horrid sound. All in all, I feel that this is one of those places where when it is good, it is great, but if something undesirable happens, it is a "sucks to be you" situation for the client.
Didnt Research exact location so Not great for me as i dont drive. Otherwise a great place. Very impressed with room and grounds around my room.
Helpful friendly staff, cool property and comfortable rooms
The property was in a quiet, pretty area but not really walkable to anything. The staff were amazing.
Gorgeous property. Rooms were quiet, clean, and comfortable
Such a great place to stay and our go-to when in the Wellington area. Easy to get on and off the motorway, and in a quiet and safe location not too far from Wellington ferries, or from train stations if heading to central wellington. I thoroughly recommend to anyone heading through.
Historic Property.
This place in an old army hospital and NZ Police traininc centre. Not really a nice history for a place to stay at.
Our go to place to stay when in the Wellington area. Clean, quiet and safe with friendly staff, and easy access off and on to the motorway!
Super easy check in. Staff were wonderful, responsive, welcoming. The room was cosy, warm on our arrival, snd very clean. Beds very comfy. The wifi in our room was really spotty which was a challenge as I needed it for work during the days. It was much better in other parts of the property. Check that before choosing a room if good wifi is critical while you’re there.
Easy access to motorway, warm & clean rooms.
It was lovely. I didnt like that apartment 3 did not have a ramp for my walker to get up and down easier. I did not ike the old style heaters to be honest, it took a while for the room to heat up.
Road works
No air conditioning but lovely modern radiators made the room a lovely comfy temperature all night without the noise!
Excellent facilities and plenty of room
Super friendly staff definitely recommend
No sanitary bins in room no air conditioning not enough smokers tray for friends won’t be back for my wedding
Great location nice and quiet . Helpful staff. Interesting to learn the property was once a hospital.
Property was fine, booking procedures, and checking in so bad we were finally not charged by a remarkably understanding owner. His staff are simply not supporting him, such a waste of what could be a great place to stay. You cannot run accomodation with no staff any whereafter 5 pm. We had notified that we would be there before 7 due to flight time, assured someone would greet us, it took over an hour and knocking on many doors all over a very large resort to find the owner. Full credit to him he was charming and helpful in every way, large excellent accommodation.
OLD AND WORN OUT.... VERY REMOTE LOCATION AND EXPENSIVE TO GET HERE VIA TAXI.
Very expensive. No food available at the retreat. Wifi not good
Would have liked to see food outlet or cooking facilities in units.
It was a lovely room for the price. It was close th where we needed to stay
Had a couple issues like comming back to some one else sleeping in our appartment but the silver stream did the right thing and compensated us. Was a pretty good stay over all.
Very Surprised
We weren't exactly sure what we had booked, being a retreat but we had a great time. The complex is huge and we were in a studio and for us it was just perfect. We rae still talking about it and know exactly where we will be staying next visit.
Very nice but watchout for free wifi limited usage
nice and peculiar place (was a war hospital in WWII) in the middle of the green bush. room big, brand new and very clean. nice people at reception. only drawback was wifi which is free but only up to 500mb data which means you are shut down after some photos upload and few mins of internet. it's only hotel we found so far in New Zeland with such limitation in data usage
Unusual, layout abit of a mixture of people
Excellent stay great room and handy to train station
Staff were lovely to deal with except one of our breakfasts was missed and we had to follow it up even though we pointed it out when the breakfasts were delivered.
peaceful stay
we went to the Tattoo and it was just the right distance there and back and the stay was very pleasant and comfortable and would recommend it
Beautiful rooms but with paperthin walls
Nice hotel, my room was very modern and cosy, however I was woken up in the night at 1am by a man in the room next to me talking on the phone on loud speaker. I could hear both sides of the conversation like it was happening in my room. I was then woken again at 6:45am by the TV in the same room next door. Sadly it seems the walls are paperthin.
Hotel very nice in a beautiful surrounding.
The hotel was very nice? Newly remodeled. The surrounding was beautiful, very relaxing. The owner was very nice and helpful. Not to far from motorway.
Great use of an old facility
I passed the old hospital twice a day for years when I lived in Wellington. Great to see the place being transformed into a top venue. I look forward to coming back in the years to come and seeing the site developed further. Well done to all involved!
Spacious and comfortable
Stayed 1 night at Silverstream. Staff were extremely helpful. We had asked where we could watch the rugby world cup final 2015 and the night porter offered us to join him and other staff members to watch it at a local members bar. The room was a mezzanine apartment. Lots of room and very clean. There was some traffic noise from the main road as our 2 bedroom apartment was at the rear of the resort but it overlooked the river which was picturesque. we slept soundly. Would stay again.
Great renovation
Great location and excellent renovations :) beautiful place to stay when visiting family in area.
Excellent stay !
Great staff, fabulous rooms. Great food! Terrific venue for functions, parties and weddings
Very comfortable and will recomend.
retreat was very comfortable and suited our families needs for the weekend.
Very convenient to food stalls. If it had been raining we would not have got to our car without getting quite wet. Vehicle parking too far away from room.
Our unit was definitely 5 star .Staff were very helpful .A little out of town, but this was what we wanted .You would need a car to be able to travel there .
Plenty of space
Lovely studio apartment with high standard of cleanliness. Plenty of car parking spaces.
Nice friendly staff, was good to have two separate bedrooms for a family of four and full kitchen facilities. Still being renovated but wasn't a concern.
Unique and peaceful location
Excellent customer service, friendly staff, beautiful grounds, well supplied kitchenette. Only negatives were so-so mattress and very poorly insulated adjoining wall....we moved to the living room because the snoring from the unit next to us was keeping us awake.
Great out of town hotel for Wellington
Debated whether to book this hotel after reading reviews. However, it was probably the best appointed room in our NZ holiday. Excellent conversion of former institution which was a hive of activity with local leisure groups but this did not affect us. Only draw back was location in relation to airport as we were flying to Christchurch. The route involved traveling through commuter traffic and then Wellington City Centre.

Microwave & toaster would be a big plus for travellers.

Very child friendly
Our grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed their overnight stay, but the duvets were uncovered and I felt that they could do with a wash. There was not enough shampoo etc. for 5 people however as we were only overnighters, we managed.
Facilities: State of the art; Value: Bargain; Service: Go the extra mile; Cleanliness: Pristine;
Beautiful Burgalow-style hotel, Best Service
All receptionists were very sincere and kind. The gentleman went out of his way to help us, even when we had to amend the reservation at the last minute. We had a car issue that day and he gave us good advice on how to handle it. Hotel is very clean and beautifully designed, even with skylight. It's near a river and feels quite serene. We liked it much better than James Cook or any of the hotels in town, where the windows can't be opened.
