Great location, beautiful property

This is by far and away the best hotel in the Los Angeles area. It’s quiet, clean and peaceful. The nightly turn down is an added bonus. Everything here is done with care and consideration. I had the pleasure and privilege of staying at Shutters on two separate occasions and will definitely be back.

It’s the best. From the time we pulled up to the time we left we were treated with first class service. My family and I had a fantastic time and I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Santa Monica.

Our New Favorite Hotel

What a wonderful stay at Shutters! Our ocean view room was exactly as pictured - beautifully decorated and oh so comfortable. And it may be silly to point out but the toiletries in the room (Diptych) were luxurious! The hotel staff was thoughtful and responsive - especially the valet squad - we were in and out everyday visiting family in the area - and it was so easy. Being right on the beach was such a bonus - We took advantage of the bicycles and loved exploring the beaches further south and north. Brunch at Coast was delicious. We absolutely loved everything!

Love the lobby. Lobster Benedict is really good in the restaurant.

This property has been on my bucket list since it opened…it didn’t disappoint.

Staff, from the front desk to bell/valet, and restaurant were extremely hospitable. Hotel just tired and there is an odd smell in the hallway going to the room. We were unable to get a reservation in the higher end restaurant during our stay which is a bummer as a hotel guest, but there are some great restaurants in the area. The cost of the room plus ready fee, tourism and other taxes was not a good value.

Stayed here 2 nights for our 35th Anniversary. Service was good, the rooms were clean and "beachy," but small - only one sink, cruise ship-sized shower, toilet area only had a louvered dood, so no privacy), our ocean view was great, but the balcony doors weren't very soundproof to the outside. Coast restaurant food was good, service was good, and (as expected) a bit pricey. But, the thing that bothered us the most was the location. There are many homeless people on the beach, around the Downtown shopping area, and on Ocean Ave. near the restaurants. They are sleeping in tents, on benches, and some were approaching tourists in threatening ways. Several times, we did not feel safe. Santa Monica Pier is dirty, old and run down. So, while the hotel was fairly nice, we would not return to this area.

Loved yoga on beach! Bfast was great.

I liked the atmosphere. Location, beach access but can get away from beach. Most staff outstanding. Didn't like our rooms were on a busy street, going up then down elevators to access. Parking at $75.00 per day. The first-day pool staff was not very attentive. Living room bar should open at 10:00 not 11:00

I never rate properties but I had to for this hotel. Service was possibly the best I’ve ever experienced. Staff anticipated your every need and everything was done swiftly and with a smile. Great beach location and great food. We stayed for my birthday weekend and I was given something special without even asking! Amazing

The staff was super friendly and helpful, genuinely. The property was well cared for. If there is any critique it might be the noise at night but that is due to the location in Santa Monica.

Well…the rooms are a bit small but when opening up the patio door, it fell off its track because the wood had deteriorated. The bed lights didn’t work properly, they kept flickering. Ordered room service and the food was cold. If it wasn’t for the view and the jacuzzi tub my anniversary weekend would have been a bust at this hotel. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly though!

We will be back soon. Great experience, especially the staff.

I knew the rooms were small, that was fine. What i didn’t know is how cheap various features were. Gym, small and sparse. No filtered water, just a carafe with a tap. Bathroom, thin ply toilet paper. Mini bar zip tied, rather cheap. Other various small items that for the price make it not worth it. The staff was great, however when I mentioned how some other lux hotels do little things like fruit and bath salts they fell short. These items were given our last night, a huge bowl of fruit that had mold, and there was also no way it could be eaten the last night. Bath salt were generous. Again, they tried. My entire three nights I wished I booked my original hotel that I stayed prior year, Maybourne. Same rate.

We can’t wait to come back!

Fantastic visit! Loved the location, the staff and the meals! Did not have much chance to enjoy the pool area but hope for next time! Valet and parking were excellent. An expensive stay but EVERYTHING was first class!

This was my first time staying at shutters. Excellent experience. I could hear vehicles from my room, but the overall experience was great. I will stay again.

Beautiful Hotel w a couple hiccups

Hotel beautiful and in great location on Santa Monica Beach. Did not like like location of our room. Paid for Oceanfront view and looked out over a building rooftop. Wouldn’t have wasted the extra cost had we known the view was obstructed. Breakfast room service Pre-ordered time was late. Hairdryer in room was broken. Otherwise beautiful hotel in great location.

Our check in person was wonderful so was the bag valet!! We love Shutters!!🌺

Way over priced and taxed and extra fees

THERE FOR A WEDDING. WAY overpriced. The Taxes and charges were close to $300 for an $800 small room. Way overpriced

Loved the view and location. Hotel in need of an update.. starting to look a bit dated and damaged ceilings/ walls etc. including amenities in resort fees would be nice- eg. Bath salts… instead of charging for these!

Worth the price

From the moment we checked in with Rosanna, who gave us a complimentary upgrade, to the moment we got a late checkout so my daughter could enjoy the pool, this place has been nothing short of magical. The room was spotless and so calming. The service, including turn down for the evening, was unparalleled. Anything we needed was taken care of promptly and with a smile. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. It is worth every penny.

An amazing two-night stay. My first time at Shutters, other than for lunch a few years ago. LOVE this property! Rooms are luxurious, so comfortable and tastefully 'homey'. You don't feel like you're in a hotel room but rather in someone's lovely home. The lobby bar and lounge area with live music and light bites are so inviting. The beachside restaurant is lovely and you can't beat the location, right on the beach, for this property. The staff was terrific, every single one of them. Christy and Kevin at the front desk were particularly helpful. I could go on, but in short, I highly recommend this property and am going back! :)

By far the best “on the beach” hotel in Santa Monica. Kevin at the front desk is a customer service master, you’re always greeted by happy, attentive staff and the overall service is 5 star.

Beautiful room and very comfortable. Bed was great. Not a great view though - mostly looking at parking lot with a peek a boo view of beach and pier.

It's a lovely, classic place with all the amenities you would want. Excellent staff, good food. My only complaint was the Wifi....they are working on upgrading, but we found it to go in and out quite regularly. This was our 2nd stay and we would certainly stay again.

Such a beautiful hotel. I have stayed at many 5 star hotels but this one tops them all. Aside from the cleanliness and amenities, the service is impeccable. From the moment you check it to the time you check out, everyone ensures that your stay is perfect! Will definitely return!

Love this property, we had such an amazing time. Meant to stay for 1 night, ended up being there for 4. Prices are way too high considering its neighboring hotels being very competitive, but I guess you pay for the luxury. Would definitely stay again.

We splurged for a birthday stay and will definitely return. Absolutely lovely property and wonderful service.

Expensive, small rooms, some with really nothing views dominate this property. But the biggest disappointment was walking into a shower that had no been cleaned, where wiping a white towel on the shower floor and walls turned up black goop that may have been moldy. Truly disgusting.
